Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. TeapotgeorgeTalk 21:22, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from Wikipedia. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.

{{unblock-spamun|hobiebob|Well, first of all, I DO have a conflict of interest, and that is why I requested people review my article a few days ago. When nothing happened for a number of days, I edited it as best I could a few dozen times. The page concerns a legitimate company, and what text is not scientific, I styled after your American Dental Association article - which is the largest group in the dental profession and has had a page on wikipedia for years - and since it was OK there, I'm a little flummoxed that it isn't OK here. I understand completely why you blocked my username, but, as I worked at the Encyclopedia Britannica years ago (just before the business model died - LOL), I feel that your block is unecessary. Yes, I was surprised when someone finally looked at my article and hated it, and yes, I deleted the warning headers because I wasn't familiar with the rules and thought some nut was overly critical of my article. Now I see that from your point of view I was obviously the one who looked like a nut and angered one of your editors. I have no excuse except to say that I just wanted to get the article up there and let the web take care of telling me what was worthy as I had gotten no help for a few days and figured none would be forthcoming. If you reinstate my username, I can delete those things deemed too puffy or commercial. If not, the web editors look like they'll clean up most of the most egregious stuff for me.

I could just save you some time. Your call, obviously. But, FWIW, you might want to try a little tenderness with newbies. Some of us know enough to help, but not enough to hit the ground running, if you know what I mean. When we work on something for a few days, and then get hammered, we're likely to be turned off from trying to help again. We're all used to the immediacy of the web, and a waiting a few days for help is like waiting a lifetime.}}

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Allowing username change to hobiebob (talk · contribs). Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking.

Request handled by: Hersfold (t/a/c)

Unblocking administrator: Please check for active autoblocks on this user after accepting the unblock request.

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Dabomb87 (talk) 04:43, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad that you understand the situation here. While it's good that you want to help make the article more compliant with our policies, understand that we strongly discourage users from editing articles with which they conflicts of interest. If you are unblocked, I would recommend that you not edit the article at all (after cleaning it up to remove the puffery). Dabomb87 (talk) 04:46, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
