The Special Barnstar
This is for being the first sysop to sign my guestbook (American Eagle doesn't count because while he's a sysop on Wikiquote and the Simple English Wikipedia, he's not a sysop here on the English Wikipedia). Thank you, and congrats! --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 02:20, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

welcome template again

Dear Addshore, I have been using {{welcome!}} instead of {{welcome}}, but I think your bot is still replacing them...I am confused; why are they being replaced in the first place? I am also asking as I have an idea about changing the template. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 11:20, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey there. {{Welcome!}} is listed here to be substed and this is the reason it is replaced / substed. All of the templates in that list should be substed as they are user talk templates.
Feel free to change the templates as all the bot does is, for example, change {{Welcome!}} to {{Subst:Welcome!)). The Mediawiki software does the rest. I hope this helps. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 14:51, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Bot "fixing" dabs

Hi. Double redirects via "Foo (disambiguation)" as a rule are intentional. Please program your bot to leave them as they are. --Una Smith (talk) 19:41, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Glype Proxy Site.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Glype Proxy Site.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:26, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Addbot bug?

Just saw this on my watchlist.[1] Looks like Addbot blanked the IP's talkpage. Regards.--Cube lurker (talk) 20:12, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for sending me this diff. I am still working on trying to find out why the bot has troubles with the parameters. And for some reason this only occasionally happens :S. Thanks again! ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 17:24, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
No problem, good luck on tracking it down.--Cube lurker (talk) 17:36, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Addshore, here's a little code snippit to solve this problem to insert at line 99 (should be currently the $wpi->post call):
if( empty( $text ) ) {
    continue;
}
That way, it the text is blank, it skips the post. Xclamation point 23:07, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

RE: ACC Tool

Hiho Addshore, I have recently had no internet access and was unable to check on Wiki and ACC. I tried to login a couple of minutes ago and the dreaded message appears:

I'm sorry, but, your account is presently suspended.

I was just wondering why, and if the account could be un-suspended. XD

PoinDexta1 | Talk to Me | 10:35, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

[PoinDexta1] (Suspended by Stifle because "Inactive for over 45 days")
I will un-uspend your account as you have said that you will be active.
Thanks for the message and try to log in now :) ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 14:06, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! Have a cookie. :P PoinDexta1 | Talk to Me | 20:56, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to butt in, but is inactivity really a reason to suspend? It's not like having the account active even when it is not being operated takes up any more in the way of resources than suspending it does, in fact suspending it will take up more (the difference being minuscule, literally in bytes, but I don't understand why it would make sense to do). Is there an actual reason for inactive accounts to be suspended? Many of the tool admins have had long inactive periods. neuro(talk) 03:54, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Notability of AdBux

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on AdBux, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because AdBux is an article about a certain website, blog, forum, or other web content that does not assert the importance or significance of that web location. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles, as well as notability guidelines for websites. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting AdBux, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. substing vandalism warnings

Hi,

I notice you (or your master) are substing in the vandalism templates. It seems to have gone through the whole bots approval thing fine, but I'm wondering why... Leaving them unsubsted keeps editing vandal usertalk pages nice and clean, and I'd like to think once in a while a vandal notices we're just feeding them templates and realises we're quite equipped to deal with them and gives up sooner. --fvw* 08:12, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

"All of the templates listed in Category:User warning templates should be substituted." Taken from Wikipedia:Subst#User_talk_namespace
The whole point of substing the user warnings e.t.c is so that the warning that they have been given first time round and the template that stays there is exactly the same. The information they have been told should be as it is therefor substed and not just the template. If just the template is used the text may change, the template may get deleted e.t.c.
I hope you understand the reasons now. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 14:12, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

DRAFT new entry

Hi,

Please hike over to my TALK page where you will find a draft of a new entry for educational publisher Curriculum Associates. It is factual, NPOV, and merits an entry similar to Houghton-Miffilin, Harcourt Brace, and other educational publishers.

I'm unclear as to what improvements it may need before I post it as an article. Your comments would be appreciated. Thanks. Frank Ferguson Frankatca (talk) 18:18, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey there, Addshore! Happy new Gregorian year. All the best for the new year, both towards you and your family and friends too. I know that I am the only person lonely enough to be running this thing as the new year is ushered in, but meh, what are you going to do. I like to keep my templated messages in a satisfactorily melancholy tone. ;)

Congratulations to Coren, Wizardman, Vassyana, Carcharoth, Jayvdb, Casliber, Risker, Roger Davies, Cool Hand Luke and Rlevse, who were all appointed to the Arbitration Committee after the ArbCom elections. I am sure I am but a voice of many when I say I trust the aforementioned users to improve the committee, each in their own way, as listed within their respective election statements. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to update the 2009 article, heh.

Hi Addshore,

I've been working on a company page and I could use some feedback on the page. I've followed the guidelines of WP:Corp but I'm not sure if everything is fine. If you have time to review it, I would really appreciate that. The page in questions is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Coaster7/Love_Systems.

Your Warning

I am fulfilling my duties as administrator on Wikipedia. Do not send me warning messages like this again. Your Boss (talk) 17:36, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Merry Christmas, Addshore!

If you are either a firm friend of mine, have signed my autograph book, are a member of WPTC, or are someone I simply like or admire:

Also, there is something I would like to learn from you: how do I program a bot? I would like to know so that I can give birth to DylanBot. --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 13:22, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

If i may step in, you can get approved for AutoWikiBrowser and do a request at WP:BOT and explain what do you want to run it for and discuss with the other Bot Approval Group members.--Mixwell!Talk 14:09, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
First I recommend you try to decide what your bot is going to do or find something for it to do. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 14:27, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
OK, I think I have a job for DylanBot to do. It can automatically update !vote tallies on requests for adminship and bureaucratship. How often do you think the bot should do this? Once every 10 minutes? 30? Once an hour? --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 22:39, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Its up to you :) Maybe ask on the RFA talk page for suggestion. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 16:14, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
Requests for adminship, or requests for approval? Either way, I won't get approved for AWB until I have 500 mainspace edits, and I don't have enough, yet. To be precise, I have exactly 297 mainspace edits as a write this message. This is how I know. --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 12:16, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, TexasAndroid deleted our page and upset the 85 members of the Chicago Film Producers Alliance. The reason he gave was "A7" - something about not having a legitimate reason for our article. CFPA has 85 producers who have completed award winning films. One of our members is Kartemquin Films (Hoops Dreams) and are currently up for an Oscar. How is an alliance of 85 producers, a group that is winning awards and is open to the public, not worth noting in Wikipedia? If this is not worthy, on what grounds does Wikipedia include Warners Bros and other film company and organizations? What do I need to do to get our organization accepted? --ATurnerIII (talk) 19:24, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. I suggest you talk to TexasAndroid on this matter to see what he says. I also suggest that you now take a look at this page as the article has been re created and re listed for deletion. On this page TexasAndroid explains his reasoning. The origional reason was A7. This is explained below.

An article about a real person, an organization (e.g. band, club, company, etc., except schools), or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from verifiability and reliability of sources, and is a lower standard than notability. A7 applies only to articles about web content and to articles about people and organizations themselves, not to articles about their books, albums, software and so on. A7 does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source. If the claim's credibility is unclear, you can improve the article yourself, propose deletion, or list the article at articles for deletion.

I hope this helps and sorry for my late reply. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 17:39, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of euIRC

Hello, I just saw that you deleted the article euIRC with the reason that it's not notable. You may want to take a look at [3], which clearly says that it is a bigger network than, for example, SlashNET or Blitzed, for which there are also articles. And I also wrote this link in the article… Darkweasel94 (talk) 20:42, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. You can find content of the article before it was deleter [here. IRC networks are tricky things to write and keep articles on. I suggest you try to add proper sources and references for the article if you choose to recreate it. Please try to include more references than just the one link that you posted above. I hope your article expands and makes it into Wikipedia. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 20:51, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Wiki Article Cinema Jenin

The article "Cinema Jenin" which I've set up was marked with the "advert" tag. I edited the article, try to follow the neutrality guidlines as well as I could. I then deleted the advert tag. Is that the correct way to go? Will someone be checking the article again to make sure it's ok? Thanks (Gushagelberg (talk) 19:05, 16 January 2009 (UTC))

Yes. As it was not a deletion tag you can remove it if you have fixed the problem. So if you say you have corrected the "written like an advert" problem there is no reason that you should not remove the tag. It is un-likely that someone will go back to check the status of the tag but naturally someone will eventually see the page again and show their opinion if it is not fixed. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 09:52, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi there,

I posted an article on Wikipedia not so long ago. Logging in today, I have found that my article has been deleted. There were a few issues with references and reliable sources - perhaps this is why it was deleted.

What are the chances of me sending you our content and helping to post the article without all the disputes. Would you be able / happy to help me with this?

Thanks so much,

Hi there. The content is as follows...

Burnetts Principle is a theory on how the world began. The main idea is that at the beginning of time, a large bird known as Burnett, appeared suddenly in space and layed an egg. This egg hatched and from it came the universe. The bird dissapeared for millions of years and later reapeared in the 20th century as a dearanged old physics teacher who chatted shit and didnt have a clue what he was doing.

I hope this helps you. If you recreate the article with the content it will be deleted for the same reason. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 20:09, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Registered Trademarks

I'm trying to get EtherDrive wiki entry acceptable. If I remove the hyperlinks to Coraid within the copy and mention it less, will that be acceptable? BTW, EtherDrive is a registered trademark with the US Patent & Trademark Office. I even included a link to the USPTO entry along with the serial number for reference. I fully understand the "blatant advertisement" issue, so I'm truly trying to make this entry as encyclopedia as possible. Any assistance and suggestions will be most appreciated. Thanks. User:tombohannon Tombohannon (talk) 14:06, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. Firstly your reference simply returns "This search session has expired. Please start a search session again by clicking on the TRADEMARK icon, if you wish to continue." Other references would be ideal. Also to bring the article up to standards it really needs fleshing out a bit with more content. I suggest you try reading this section again. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 17:38, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

copy of deleted article TurnKey Linux

Hi! Could you provide me with a copy of the wiki text for the deleted article TurnKey Linux? I was the main editor for that article and I am now in the process of disputing its speedy deletion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LirazSiri (talkcontribs) 00:08, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Requesting rollback permissions

Hello Addshore, I'm one of many members of CVU that reverts blatant vandalism to articles that slip by the bots. I was wanting to utilize Huggle instead of having to do the manual "Recent Changes" diff method. To use Huggle I would need access to rollback permissions, which I was hoping you could grant me. Thanks for your time. Fyyer (talk) 00:43, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Done. Use it well! You do only have about 150 edits but I see no bad faith edits in your contributions at all. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 11:28, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. :) Fyyer (talk) 19:17, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
No problem, and use it well! :) ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 09:35, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Zimmer Twins edit?

Hi. I didn't know what the Zimmer Twins was before going to the link you gave me claiming that I edited the page; I didn't edit it. I don't particularly care that the mistake was made, but I just wanted to tell you in case you wanted to pursue whoever it was that actually made the edit.69.196.143.58 (talk) 00:58, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. The edit you are refering to came from the ip address that you are using. People's IP addresses can change so i agree you may not have made this edit. The warning was issued to the IP address in the past and therefor is probably for someone else. I hope this makes sense to you. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 09:34, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

WW notices

Hey there WODUP. This is concerning your bots notices to user talk pages about new episodes of Wikipedia Weekly. I was wondering if you could remove one of the –'s from the bots sig. It is currently
– [[User:WODUPbot|wodupbot]] – DATE
Could you remove the second –. My reason for this is it causes some archive listing bots to not recognise the date stamp. I look forward to your reply. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 20:40, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Acctually thinking about it it could be because the notice You're receiving this because you're listed on Wikipedia:WikiProject WikipediaWeekly/delivery. If you'd like to stop receiving these messages, please remove yourself from that list. comes after the sig. anyway it would be brilliant if it could maybe be moved around. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 20:44, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Hi there. I changed it, but I'm curious where you see this happening. MiszaBot III and ClueBot III both seem to be archiving properly. – wodup21:13, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
sorry I do not mean the archive bots I mean the indexer bots/bot ( User:HBC_Archive_Indexerbot ). If you order thi page in order of date you will either see the Wikipedia Weekly notices at the top or bottom. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 21:19, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Alright, I see that it was fine until I changed the signature. I changed it on your talk page to just WODUPbot; I have a feeling that the indexerbot will pick it up correctly on its next pass. Sorry for the trouble. – wodup04:04, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks and I'll make sure I check :). ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 10:29, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
