Plans for expansion, advice wanted
Hello, I am a student in the Poverty Justice and Human Capabilities class at Rice University, and I have been gathering research about domestic violence (or intimate partner violence) in same-sex relationships, and I am trying to decide whether I should expand upon the same sex relationships section within the article on domestic violence, or if I should create a new page about same sex domestic violence, or if I should take the page about domestic violence in lesbian relationships and expand it to include other same sex couples as well as trans individuals. Advice wanted for a new page
Hi Adam, I'm a student at Rice University, and I'm currently taking a class on Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities with Dr. Strassmann. I am interested in creating a new page about Muslim women in sports as a child article to both Women in Islam and Women's Sports. As this is quite a broad topic, I could use some advice about both content and organization. Would it be better for me to focus on a specific country, or a more specific population (i.e. Muslim schoolgirls)? I believe that I can create an in-depth article that covers many issues relating to Muslim women in sports (professional athletes, family/cultural/religious barriers to sports participation, amateur or school-level participation, relevant policies, clothing issues, etc.), but I am open to suggestions if you think a narrower topic would be better. Requesting Advice
Hi Adam, I am an undergraduate student enrolled in the Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities Course at Rice University, and I am hoping to receive your advice about the placement of a new page. As of now, there is no article discussing "Maternal Healthcare in Texas", and so I am hoping to create a new article on this topic and place it under a parent article. There is an article called Healthcare in Texas, but this has been categorized as a list article, and thus wouldn't serve as a parent article. Therefore, I am looking into placing "Maternal Healthcare in Texas" under the parent article of "Texas." I believe it is a broad enough topic to merit its own category (along with geography, culture, etc in the Texas article), but I would appreciate your thoughts on this. Henrietta Lacks as a student's work-project?
I confess, I am puzzled as to how this article fits into Wikipedia:Wiki Ed/Michigan State University/IAH 206 It's Alive (Fall 2016). Of course, Wikipedia is the encyclopedia anyone can edit and these assignments are independent of Wikipedia/Wikimedia/Wiki Ed/etc, but, that being said, how does Henrietta Lacks fit into the stated course parameters of:
- From Frankenstein to Futurama to Fringe, mad scientists and their monsters are familiar characters. But why are they so compelling? In this course we will investigate mad scientists and the monsters they create to think about distinctions between fact and fiction, humanity and monstrosity, natural and unnatural. We’ll ask questions about what it means to create a monster and what it means to be a monster. Finally, we’ll consider what mad scientists and their monsters tell us about the monstrous nature of humanity itself.

- Hello @Vanessacushing:, that is absolutely no problem and no cause for concern at all. Articles that are not shown to meet WP:GNG will normally be deleted, this is absolutely fine. If you know of additional sources, that are independent and reliable by Wikipedia's standards, then you should add them to the article and then mention the addition at the deletion discussion. Not all female activists need an article about them on Wikipedia, so don't worry. MPS1992 (talk) 20:56, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
Question About Wiki's Policy on Tables
Hello, Adam. I found a sophisticated table on the gender pay gap that includes the gap ranking for 145 countries in The Global Gender Gap Report 2015 on pages 16 and 17. What is Wikipedia's policy on tables? I would really like to place the table on the Gender pay gap page in the by country section to give recent reliable statistics. - Hello Cardinal0205, I will offer a few thoughts on this complicated topic. Wikipedia policy is fully supportive of tables, for example take a look at List of elected and appointed female heads of state. But if a third party has a sophisticated table that both presents information they have gathered, and also provides sophisticated ways of dealing with it, then there are problems for Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a repository for primary source information, and it would be very rare that we would want to just take an entire table covering 145 different countries in great detail, including all its formatting, and just copy it into Wikipedia, even if its license allowed that.
- Where such sources may be of more use would be articles that I have edited like for example Women in Pakistan, where large parts of the article content are based on sources which take their data from the 1990s or before, since when the situation in that country has changed hugely. In any article where up to date sources are lacking or absent, presenting a fact from a primary source like a 2015 survey can be very useful. MPS1992 (talk) 00:25, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

Help Adam
Hi Adam. I am a student at California Lutheran University and we have been assigned a Wikipedia Project in class. I am not familiar with this process at all. I have completed the required training, selected an article (predetermined by the professor), and now I am struggling. My article is Christian Pacifism. It is a Contemporary Christian Ethics class. The article is not in good shape, but yet it is hard to just jump in on something and start editing and adding and then drafting my own article to add to it. My first assignment is to "add to an article"...1-2 sentences with citation. How do I even know what to add? Question about reviving a merged page
Hi Adam, I am curious about reviving a page that has been merged with another Online learning. I think a new article there that focuses on higher education with updated references to technologies used, enrollment, and current research would be significantly different from and inappropriate for the Educational technology page that it got merged with. Moving My Wiki Page
Adam- I am having trouble moving my article to the main space. I moved it to Wikipedia: Mary Foulke Morrisson but now its not on the actual Mary Foulke Morrisson page or my Sandbox!! Please Help! Thank you, Vanessa
- @Vanessacushing: hi Vanessa, do not worry too much about this. It can probably be fixed very quickly, but I am not going to try myself because Adam or Ian or someone would probably have a clearer idea what needs changing. Don't worry, nothing has been lost, and your latest version is probably at Wikipedia:Mary Foulke Morrisson until someone moves it.
- For the convenience of anyone fixing this, the relevant pages are as follows:
- Mary Foulke Morrisson is an existing Wikipedia article that was started by Vanessa in late September 2016 and survived an AfD.
- Wikipedia:Mary Foulke Morrisson is a page that was originally created by Vanessa several weeks earlier, probably under the page name User:Vanessacushing/sandbox, and then moved to the wrong namespace accidentally on 22 October 2016. This is probably the most up to date version, and perhaps the changes just need merging into Mary Foulke Morrisson manually.
- Wikipedia:Mary Foulke Morrisson has only been edited by Vanessa -- so far -- so there are no attribution problems and a history merge is probably not necessary. MPS1992 (talk) 17:35, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

- It has been decided that a history merge is not necessary, but I will have to do some further thinking and research to understand exactly why. I do not think that 24.151.20.165 has confused the issue, but instead has encouraged me to think more deeply about aspects of attribution needs that I still don't completely understand. On the wider issue, I think everything is now Fixed, except if there is some sort of marking scheme whereby Vanessa only gets credit for edits that are specifically listed as made by herself in the article history. Copying sandboxes into Wikipedia
Hey Adam. This really does not work[1] for any topic in which their is a pre existing article. The student just ends up duplicating content already in the article. They also typically do it on the last day of their course so it is unclear to me if I am wasting my time providing them feedback of issues or not. Hi Adam
My name is Henry Michaels and I am working on revising the existing Wikipedia article "Sephardic Jews in the Netherlands." When I added footnotes to the new information I was putting in the article the footnote citations appeared under the page's "References" sub-heading. I was wondering if this is a standard way to display the citations or if there is a way that is preferred? Also, I wanted to ask whether when linking a word to its own wikipedia page should be done every time the word appears in the article or, just the first time the word appears? Please let me know if you could help me answer these questions. Thanks!

Hi Adam, As a student I signed up with User Name 'Franz amy'. I decided I wanted to change it to something gender neutral and choose 'franza615' and proceeded to have Wikipedia change my user name. As a student my user name on the Student Page of the Class Module still has my old user name and is not displaying the work I have done. Do you know how I can update this??

Citation and linking question
Hi Adam,

Wikipedia rejection
Hi Adam,
I am working on trying to get my page on "Lindsay Ridgeway" submitted. I am in a class that requires our pages to be submitted for a grade. Is there anyway I can appeal the rejection I received? I understand that Lindsay Ridgeway may not be notable enough for a page, but are there exceptions that can be made even for a post that gets published temporarily? I am just trying to see what i can do so i can receive full credit for my class's assignment. The link to my class is here:
