Why would you revert my edits? vDub (talk) 04:43, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

A mistake on my part: I thought it was for the general April 1 article. Acroterion (talk) 11:37, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Chocolate Math

Why did you delete Chocolate Math? It was a valuable Mathamatical resource for those wishing to devise their own mathamatical problems. It also displayed the value of working backwards when creating a difficult problem. --Fetch that (talk) 01:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

It was not, however, an encyclopedia article: Wikipedia is not a how-to guide or a textbook. Please refer to WP:NOT. Acroterion (talk) 01:38, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
c'mon, you can't be serious, I used that method of mathamatics for a problem i was devising for one of my new co-workers. I felt it would be great if others could have the same resource.

It's a bit of fun and educational, what more could Wikipedia ask for? :)--Fetch that (talk) 01:44, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

As I said, it's not something that is appropriate for an encyclopedia: we don't host math problems. Again, please read WP:NOT. Acroterion (talk) 01:47, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Global Warming

I've deleted my "personal opinion" which was, as a matter of fact a fact in itself in that we are all contributing to global warming in some way. HAPPY NOW? Now all that is in the article is boring old facts, and now i can't secretly destroy wikipedia with 2 lines of a bit of an opinion/fact.--Fetch that 02:28, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

The entire article is an essay, and therefore inappropriate. Please, please, read WP:NOT and you'll understand what we're saying. Acroterion (talk)<--Fetch that (talk) 02:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)/sub> 02:31, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
So even facts that are derived from a reliable source count as personal essays?
I've read WP:NOT and i can see what you're saying, i'm simply asking that if i listed a page of facts with no other writing watsoever, no personal input, would this still count as a personal essay?--Fetch that (talk) 02:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
If you're standing on a WP:SOAPBOX, and it reads as an essay, then yes. We already have an article on Global warming. As I mentioned above, the reservoir article's just fine, barring a few sources and some cleanup. Just the facts, no attempt at analysis or imposition of a particular point of view. For more of our extensive collection of policies, see WP:NPOV. Acroterion (talk) 02:45, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Deletion

You shouldn't have deleted andre ball, there was absolutly nothing wrong with the term. It was completly understandable, and not harmful to any person. I think you should reinstate it. I know it is not a term that many people have heard before, but I know people that have heard of it and there new ideas and words created all of the time. I believe it was unjustly deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Adamwads (talkcontribs) 05:38, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Then you will have no difficulty providing two or three references to the term in independent media, preferably of national standing. Please read WP:NOTABILITY. Wikipedia does not exist to create notability for obscure terms: it documents notability that already exists. Please do not introduce neologisms or things you've made up: see WP:MADEUP. There appear to be a lot of Donald Douglases: this one got redirected, which isn't perhaps right. Maybe you'd like to do a disambig page? Regards, Acroterion (talk) 23:32, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Why is clubcivic getting called spam? It's not, it's only the most popular Honda Enthusiast website on the web. Highly worthy of wikipedia.

Hi

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rki

Could you please tell me why you keep or don't want my info on the wiki page? even after placing a "holdon" tag, it still got deleted. rki —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rootcontest (talkcontribs) 19:05, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

I now have a signature? may I have the page? rki 19:32, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

It is not a matter of "don't want my info": it's a matter of meeting our requirements for notability of people and subject matter. There is no indication that you are personally notable in the article: if, however, you can provide multiple examples of third-party coverage in independent media, that would establish notability in your own right (as opposed to the website, which is already included and may be the best place for a mention of you as the founder). Please also read WP:COI for information on conflict of interest - writing about yourself is strongly discouraged. Acroterion (talk) 23:08, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, LOL. Me too. Dlohcierekim 23:19, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

I noticed you put a Speedy Delete G1 notice on the author's talk page about Risko. I noticed the template wasn't up on the article. I googled the term and found no conducive data. I'm assuming you just forgot so I'm going to go ahead and put it on the article and if you had something else planned please let me know. Chasecarter (talk) 02:37, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Untrue that it's patent nonsense.

How does someone from West Virgina know anything about English pub-slang? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ping33 (talkcontribs) 11:32, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not a place for pub-slang, or things made up in a pub one day. And there are ways to visit England and even other countries, even if you do have to go to Virginia to catch the flight. Acroterion (talk) 11:38, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanker
That's slang.
as is this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punter
Where is the line drawn?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostriding <- probably not the widest known term in the world... what's the threshold here?
I didn't even create the article, was just editing it as it was, admittedly lacking.
The first two are widely known, even to those of us in deepest Dogpatch. The last is extensively referenced. If someone can provide references for Beefshift, great. Two Google hits, neither relevant. I call Bullshift. Acroterion (talk) 11:46, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Connaling

Why was the Connaling page deleted? You cited it as an attack page but there was no subject under attack. The page was merely an explanation of an act and the increasingly popular term used to describe an act deemed inappropriate by society, such as rape or murder. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.9.135.233 (talk) 11:48, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

It seems popular and funny in some circles to attach the name of someone one wishes to tease to a sexual act. It is not, however, suitable for publication in an encyclopedia, and it is frequently interpreted as an attack. Please stop. Acroterion (talk) 12:02, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Block of 71.42.96.142

Hi! Thanks for the assist there. I was also wondering, is there a way to check to see if an IP range belongs to a school? I think (looking at the type of vandal edits that were made) that this particular IP is a school account. Thanks for your help! Tnxman307 (talk) 15:11, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I do a WHOIS before blocking so I don't inadvertently block the US Senate or Qatar or something. There's a link at the bottom of the IP contribution page - this one came back to RoadRunner, a generic IP. That's not to say it's not a school - it's just not directly allocated. Acroterion (talk) 15:15, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Cool. Thanks again! Tnxman307 (talk) 15:23, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

space sprogs

We would like to add some of the TV pilot visuals so that the kids can see them when they look up the sprogs, but I cannot work out how to add images. They are own own TV images that we own from the TV pilot. Please advise how to add pictures. Thanks so much x --Doedimelvin (talk) 01:27, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Since you own the copyright, you should be able to release them under GFDL. Please note that once, released, you lose your right to control the use: the only requirement for someone using the image is that they correctly attribute the source. If control of use is important to you, you might not want to post the images. As far as actually posting the images, you will see a link to "upload file" on the left side of the page. Follow the instructions, and upload to Commons by preference so it's available to all Wikimedia projects. Make sure you fill out the licensing information (and understand it), and you will almost certainly have to prove your ownership of the content via WP:OTRS. Acroterion (talk) 01:33, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Global Account

Excuse me I hope you don't mind me asking but on your user page it says that you have a global account and when I read the page at mediawiki it only talked about sysops creating these and on your userpage you appear to just be an administrator. I was wondering if you are a sysop somewhere else or if they have opened up this ability to other user types. If you don't mind please respond on my userpage. Rearete (talk) 03:34, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

On most Wikimedia projects the terms sysop and administrator are used interchangeably, so I'm both. In real-life terms the system operators for the actual Wikimedia systems are the developers. Hope this clears things up. Acroterion (talk) 03:40, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Protocals of the elders of zion

I've been POVing this page for a good week or so now, and I seem to be getting into trouble for it. I've issued my concerns, but I'm not the best at getting my point accross, as english is my second language. (Which is why I haven't corrected the article myself) If this is a true issue worth blocking me over, perhaps you could drop the ruling decision in. Would you kindly peek at the article in question, perhaps you will see what I'm seeing. If not, I'd be happy to cease tagging the pov. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.93.6.213 (talk) 18:04, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Your comment confirms what I was thinking, however I don't think just tagging is the best way to make your point. You seem to be able to describe your concerns reasonably well - I think I will open a request for comment, in which you are encouraged to participate. I will not block you, but please stop placing the POV tag. It's always better to simply make a case on the talk page: POV tagging is for more significant issues. If I understand correctly, you have more of an issue with wording and perhaps undue weight. Acroterion (talk) 18:24, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Well he's Tagged it again. But has given no further indication of why on the Talk page. I think you have enough to Block him - at least for some time outside of infinity. --Ludvikus (talk) 18:36, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm going to remove the tag and open an RfC. I personally feel that it is abundantly clear that the Protocols are a hoax/forgery/lie, and that this could be stated more succinctly. This appears to be the taggers' point as well, although he's not doing a good job of explaining it. I do not see this as appropriately blockable unless it continues during or after the RfC. Acroterion (talk) 18:51, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank'ee

Thanks for your help, Acro. I'm back on, so I can return to damage assessment. For the record, these guys are now mad at me because I pointed out that I would delete their target revision to Ocean sunfish once it got off FA. -Jéské (v^_^v Karistaa Usko) 02:12, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Glad to help, in between cleaning the kitchen. I assume you have a strategy for this that doesn't involve semi-ing your talkpage? Acroterion (talk) 02:14, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
All the IP's used are one-offs and all of them are reverting to specific revisions; as soon as they stop for the day I'll delete those revisions. -Jéské (v^_^v Karistaa Usko) 02:35, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
I assume this is being organized via 4chan? Are abuse reports in the future for these IP's? Acroterion (talk) 02:39, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
For many of them an abuse report would be rejected here, and even if accepted, we would also need to contact police as ISPs have a poor track record of reining in rambunctious users. And, yes, 4chan is behind it (most likely on his command; see the revision history for Ocean sunfish). -Jéské (v^_^v Karistaa Usko) 02:41, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, short of a Class B felony, ISP's can't be bothered. Acroterion (talk) 02:44, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah. It took a letter to a Better Business Bureau to rein in Mmbabies; what would it take to shut down Anonymous, aside from the Internet suddenly going out? -Jéské (v^_^v Karistaa Usko) 02:47, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Har! I haven't watched South Park in ages. With the current response time from the servers, they'd be lucky to get logged on in 40 seconds. Still, why not just semi-protect and save the hassle? Acroterion (talk) 02:55, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Because if I do, experience has taught me they'll harass someone else. -Jéské (v^_^v Karistaa Usko) 02:56, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

shirley temply disease

Acroterion,

Could you please tell me why my article on Shirley Temple disease was taken down? It is true that I had not set out the references in the standard format, but I was just getting around to doing that. I wanted to see what the first draft looked like as a work in progress: this is a valid (or at least understandable) part of the writing process surely?

Because it appeared to be a well-written hoax. No Google hits.

"A satisfactory resolution of the condition depends on the patient locating a social network - medical practitioner and friends - who recognises the validity of the condition, offer comfort and solace, and are prepared to hold the patient while she sleeps standing up. Bushwalks in mountainous areas have also been found to be effective in inducing a tiredness conducive to sleep. Typically the sufferer resists treatment by repeatedly putting off the bushwalk in order to go to her hairdresser.":

Really? Bushwalking as a cure for a psycho-epilatory disorder? Acroterion (talk) 14:27, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

You haven't gone through the agony of coercing a sufferer to well-being! I have experienced this condition, or one with very similar symptoms, first-hand, and would very much like to see this information posted to ensure the speedy recovery of other sufferers. I'm not sure about the "medical" side of the disorder, but some of the suggestions for easing/curing the disorder are very helpful!

Thank you in advance, Michael Kirkwood —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.184.8.200 (talk) 15:28, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

We don't publish original research or first-hand accounts. I would advise a nice bushwalk instead of staying indoors in front of a computer. Acroterion (talk) 15:30, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for de-jerk-ifying my userpage...I must say, I'm saddened by the new generation's lack of creativity in their insults. I mean, if you're going to use a four-letter word, you could at least spruce up the sentence structure--throw in a few adverbs, a dependent clause, maybe a reference to obscure vegetable products...:::sigh::: Anyhow, thanks for your vigilance!Gladys J Cortez 03:10, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Problem solved by getting rid of the troll's barnstar - he apparently thought they were quite the thing. It appears that few can live up to the standards of creativity you set (and exemplify). Acroterion (talk) 21:14, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi

Listen, I need to ask you something. Recently, an article I nominated for deletion was kept per the snowball clause. Yet, a previous article similar to this (Video games that have been considered the greatest ever) was deleted almost a year ago. Does that mean, if this article can be kept, then if that article was allowed to be written again, it could be kept? Valtoras (talk) 23:04, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Umm, hard to tell. Negative reception seems to me to be easier to document (witness the press about the latest GTA). "Best ever" is way more subjective, and given the likely sourcing, mostly meaningless. You might want to check the link you gave me - it doesn't appear to link to a deleted article. Regards, Acroterion (talk) 23:12, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Fixed. Does my nom look like a violation of WP:POINT? Valtoras (talk) 23:14, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
No, not to me. When I get a moment I'll read both AfD's through: no time right now. Acroterion (talk) 23:41, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
It appears from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Video games notable for negative reception (2nd nomination) that the commenters understood your reasoning, and were initially inclined to agree, but moved to keep after actually reading the article. Nobody thought you were being point-y, that I see, or thought it was an improper nom. In contrast, Video games that have been considered the greatest ever seems to me to have been a list of lists. Disasters tend to be inherently easier to document than successes. A well-written "notable for positive reception" article might well succeed if it's formulated along the same lines as its antithesis, and you should recruit those who commented if you want to try for feedback. Not me, though - my knowledge on the subject is, well, antique. Zork, anyone? I anxiously await the next release of Duke Nukem - I hear it'll hit the stores any day now! Acroterion (talk) 01:11, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Of course, it's been in the making for 11 years, any day now it should be out! :D The only reason I asked is that, well, it's hard to explain why - nobody said anything of WP:POINT, but I nontheless feared that bringing something to AfD with the argument that "if that article was deleted, then this one should be as well" might strike people as such. In any case, thank you for your advice - it's much appreciated. Valtoras (talk) 04:36, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Damian805

This is'nt really important, but why do you think that Damain805 is unaware of his block? Imperial Star Destroyer (talk) 00:26, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

He's aware he's blocked, but his promise to return will be hampered by autoblock, which blocks any IP he uses, and hence any sockpuppet accounts. There are ways around it, and it will eventually wear off, but he'll find it hard to carry out his threat, as he's already fallen into it once. Acroterion (talk) 00:30, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

For being the great help you have been over the past few days, I hereby award you this barnstar. AlexiusHoratius (talk) 15:55, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for your work over the past few days; I really appreciate it. I don't have much experience dealing with sockpuppets other than getting obvious ones blocked at AIV, so your efforts with the RFCU were a big help to me. As to the resulting blocks in the matter, they're fine by me. The MO has become clear enough by this point, so further misbehavior should probably be easy to spot. AlexiusHoratius (talk) 15:55, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much! I'm happy to help out - I'd been watching AoJ & Co. for a while, as it was clear that they were up to no good. I have little hope that they will behave - AoJ triggered an autoblock the same minute he was blocked, as well as his other previously unblocked sockpuppet. Acroterion (talk) 17:40, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

No, I won't block you for the above, but your activities so far have consisted of vandalism, attacks on other editrors, impersonation of administrators, copying other people's userpages, and telling people on a wiki (where everything is visible to everybody else) to butt out. Yes, I can ask a checkuser to look into the IP behind the edits and block it, if it continues. The effort expended by this person to create sockpuppets is disproportionate to the minor effort it takes to block the accounts. Acroterion (talk) 01:34, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Blanking of user talk page, block without final warning: "Lard" vandals

First, when you posted an indef block notice, [4] why did you remove the previous content of the user page? It is a good idea to leave it, because it may provide context for the necessity of the block. Second, why was an indefinite block necessary without a final warning? I had reverted one of his vandal edits and was in the process of posting a warning when you blanked the page and blocked. I agreee his contribution history of that of a vandalism-only account, but they usually do a vandalism after final warning and then get the same block, but with less wiggle room if they appeal. Thanks. Edison (talk) 01:05, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

This vandal was the reincarnation of a lard vandal (ore maybe a 4chan meme) blocked a little while ago. Since he was a clear sockpuppet/serial abuser, I blocked immediately. Acroterion (talk) 01:15, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

All organizations must meet Wikipedia's requirements for notability. Gaming clans do not meet these standards. Significant multiple third-party coverage in publications of national stature can be an indicator of notability. Acroterion (talk) 00:17, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

LISTEN! I WILL UPLOAD THE FILE AGAIN AND YOU WILL NOT DELETE IT! COMPRENDO? Mexican Sponge (talk) 23:32, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

You recently deleted this article with a rationale of "A7 (bio): Real person; doesn't indicate importance/significance" I believe this to be inaccurate. Having read the article before it was deleted I think that there were several indications of the individual's importance/significance including the subject winning a Nobel prize and being the first person to give birth to a cat. We have articles on many people who have done the former and almost certainly would have an article on someone who achieved the latter. I would suggest that in future a more appropriate rationale for such articles would be based on speedy delete criterion G3 (blatant and obvious misinformation). Regards, Guest9999 (talk) 03:55, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

I regard A7 as a slightly kinder and less bitey way of characterizing an obviously silly article about somebody's friend. Many deleted articles can be tagged under multiple criteria, and sometimes we just make mistakes. I just went with the way it was already tagged. Acroterion (talk) 04:00, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry for even bringing up, I think arguing over how articles on people giving birth to cats are deleted is a sign that I should probably be asleep. I hope no offence was taken, keep up the good work. Regards, Guest9999 (talk) 04:09, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
(and I generally agree with you, I often tag such pages as G2 candidates (test pages)) Guest9999 (talk) 04:11, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Not at all, good to know someone's paying attention. I'm signing off here too, once I regain my ability to spell and format for three more minutes. I use G2 where I can, but sadly I tag a lot of G10's (who get a big red warning and a quick block if they continue). Acroterion (talk) 04:12, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

User:Talkoftheindustry

His contributions so far seem to be promotional in nature, and he's freely admitted to creating a page as part of a publicity campaign. is there any ARV criteria that really covers blocking him? Centrifugal Force

Acroterion, recently you took an interest in the centrifugal force page. I would be most grateful if you could look at the recent deletion of my edit on the main page of that article. If you check it out, you will find that Wolfkeeper has a long record of deleting things which I put on the main article.

When I put that edit on yesterday, I was fully expecting Wolfkeeper to delete it. But I was very careful to make sure that the edit contained only basic textbook material and that there could be no possible grounds to justify him deleting it.

You will recall that my block last week was because I was accused of incivility by having accused Wolfkeeper of wikistalking for having deleted stuff that had put on the main page.

Interestingly, Wolfkeeper has attempted to justify his actions this time. His first reason was pathetic. It was something to do with the section being out of place. The second reason merely exposes Wolfkeeper's total lack of knowledge about the topic in question.

The marble experiences a side on Coriolis force as it rolls out to the edge of the turntable. Interestingly, PhySusie who I presume was attempting to back up Wolfkeeper has then come in and stated this very fact as if it were me that didn't know it.

If you are genuinely interested in justice on wikipedia and proving that there is no corruption, I would be most grateful if you could monitor the ensuing debate very carefully.

I know that you say that you are not trained in this topic but it is all very basic stuff and I am sure that you will be more than capable of seeing exacly what is going on. David Tombe (talk) 06:29, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

I would like to further clarify that the edit which I made yesterday was totally outside the issue of ongoing disagreement. I made sure of that because I wanted Wolfkeeper exposed. I knew he would delete it, yet is was a very carefully thought out example which ilustrates both centrifugal force and Coriolis force perfectly.
Now what has happened is that Itub and PhySusie are trying to justify Wolfkeeper's actions and in doing so totally contradicting what has already been agreed.
They are behaving like school children and I would simply lke to know if this is he best that I can expect from wikipedia. Do the administration ever sort these cliques out or do they generally side up with the cliques out of fear of large numbers? David Tombe (talk) 07:21, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
I'll take a look at at, but make no promises. I have learned a few things from watching the article, but it's been 30 years since college physics, so I'm having to start from F = m a. Since part of my specialty is building structures, which hardly ever move, centrifugal force is rarely encountered (and when it is you don't want to be in the neighborhood). Acroterion (talk) 11:47, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

OK Thanks. I'd like you to focus specifically on that last edit that was deleted by Wolfkeeper. I'm sure that was just a malicious act.

A marble sits in a radial groove in a rotating turntable. You will agree with me that centrifugal force will cause the marble to roll outwards.

I am up against people who are trying to deny this. Note in particular PhySusie who states that there is no need for any outward radial force.

How do you argue against people like that? Are they genuine? Did she just come in to back up Wolfkeeper? She said so many things wrong that even Itub openly disagreed with her. That of course wasn't her aim so she immediately set herself right with Itub and then twisted it around to make it my fault by insinuating that I hadn't described the situation clearly enough. She interpreted my term 'radial groove' to be curving outwards. Radial means radial.

Itub himself clearly understood the picture but he is trying to argue that the centrifugal foce in question only exists for observers on the rotating turntable.

It exists full stop. The marble rolls radially to the edge of the turntable. We can all see it no matter whether we are spinning or what. David Tombe (talk)

Acroterion, thanks for your reply. Yes I am totally outnumbered as regards a key point. I don't believe that the rotating frame of reference transformation equations can be applied to non-rotating situations.
But the edit war on the main page has not been about that issue recently.
I very carefully chose an example of centrifugal force that would actually be covered by those equations. I did that deliberately in order to totally remove any possible excuse that they might have to delete it, although I fully expected that Wolfkeeper would delete it anyway because he deletes my edits systematically.
I wanted you to look at the pathetic excuses that they were giving to justify Wolfkeeper's actions.
As you can see, Itub has been denying that a centrifugal force is involved in the outward radial acceleration of the marble along the groove.
It is that kind of blatantly dishonest denial that I wanted an administrator to look at.
Basically they are covering up for wikistalking on the part of Wolfkeeper.
You can see my latest reply to Itub on the talk pages of centrifugal force. David Tombe (talk) 08:01, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
You want me to use administrative tools in a content dispute where you feel outnumbered. You use words like "pathetic", "blatantly dishonest denial" and "wikistalking" with respect to those who disagree with you. I've seen wikistalking: this isn't it. Administrators aren't referees. You must either convince those who disagree with you through civil persuasion, or you must be willing to understand and accept the arguments of those who disagree with you. Please moderate your language - it's just an encyclopedia, and talk pages of articles on physics shouldn't resemble those of the Balkans.
Also, writing articles via discussion of proofs or first principles amounts to original research no matter how well-founded the process. We must stick to citations from reliable sources, or we end up in the sort of back-and-forth we're seeing. Acroterion (talk) 11:34, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Acroterion, You yourself should be able to see the simplicity of the argument. A marble rolling out to the edge of a rotating turntable , along a groove, is experiencing centrifugal force.
If it's that simple, please provide a citation in the literature.
Are you going to join those who are denying this fact, because that is what it all comes down to? It is too simple an issue to get out of by pleading ignorance.
I have no intention of taking sides in a debate on content - that would inappropriate: I expect all editors to conduct themselves with civility.
When I see one person coming along and agreeing that centrifugal force is present in that situation, then I will know that I am dealing with an honest person. And I haven't found very many so far.
One more time: moderate your language and treat other editors with respect. This [5] and this [6] are inappropriate. Disagreement does not equal dishonesty. Acroterion (talk) 16:11, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Acroterion, you've disappointed me. You've played the old game of asking for a citation for something that is obvious. For a while I thought that you may have been more mature than the others. But you have done the Pontius Pilate. Centrifugal force exists in that scenario and you know it. The fact that the others are denying it means that they are not being straight. You are now turning a blind eye. You are too scared to go to the centrifugal force talk page and say that this scenario quite obviously involves centrifugal force and so those who are denying it are clearly not being honest. You would reinstate the section and block anybody who tries to remove it.
It is your job as an administrator to warn people like Wolfkeeper. When he removed that edit originally, you could have left a message in his talk page warning him that his removal of the material appears to be vandalism and that he should use the sandbox for experiments.
But I can see now that all administartors in wikipedia are scared of confronting groups of team editors. They are too weak to deal fairly with edit wars and they choose to back the majority side. Invariably when drawn in they begin to drop civility warnings in the tray of the minority party. I didn't notice you giving Wolfkeeper any warnings for his abusive language not that I get over worried about abusive language, but it's interesting to see how these administrators reserve all their warnings for the minority party. It's easiest to end an edit war by getting the minority party blocked.David Tombe (talk) 16:50, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Short answer: content disputes aren't vandalism, the subject is being discussed with great activity on the talk page, and administrators may not arbitrate content. Acroterion (talk) 17:14, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Maryland NHLs

Hi Acroterion -- Glad to see you are editing/creating articles on Maryland NHLs and perhaps other NRHPs. The List of NHLs in MD sure does need development to a more complete condition, and your taking the lead is appreciated. I ran out of steam in developing that list-article a while back, but i will try to chip in a bit where possible now.

A comment: in NHL list-articles that i have worked on, the description column of the list-article was used for notes that are not meant to remain permanently in the article, such as the NRHP refnums and "reasonable-to-try" wikilinks. These notes can be helpful at the point of creating the new NHL article. If and when the corresponding NHL article is created, the description should be replaced by a real, short description. I would prefer your leaving the notes there, until you create the article, then by all means replace whats there.

Another comment: while the names of individual articles such as Edna E. Lockwood (bugeye) can be changed to reasonable common names of the ships/places, for consistency in the NHL list-article the displayed name of the NHL should be the NHL program name for the ship/place (per the NHL article on the ship/place, or per the National Park Service's PDF list of NHLs cited in the list-article), with a wikilink to whatever is the current name for the article, which can be different.

Thanks, and keep up the good work! doncram (talk) 18:34, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

I was appalled to see that almost half the NHL's in Maryland were redlinked, so I'm working my way through. I'll just step the list page back until they're all in. I see your point about Wikipedia naming convention vs. NRHP convention, and I think it's easier to do all the notes at one time, so I'll revert. Thanks for the suggestions, and I have a question:
The Gambrill House doesn't seem to appear in the NHL database - it's an NRHP property according to the Maryland Historical Trust, and they're pretty good about that sort of thing. Is there something I'm missing? Acroterion (talk) 19:09, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay, good. As you probably understand, all NHLs are automatically listed as NRHPs, but most NRHPs are not also NHLs. I agree, the Gambrill House does not appear to be an NHL, and should not be in the List of NHLs article. There are in fact just 71 NHLs in the state (plus perhaps one or two shared ones primarily listed in another state), while the list has more than that. The list needs to be cross-checked against the National Park Service's PDF file cited in the list-article for another reason anyhow (to add specific dates of NHL designation, which are often different than NRHP dates, while the list-table was partly generated from a NRHP database so may show NRHP dates instead).
Don't worry about reverting the list-article, the names can be cleaned up to show NHL program names in the one sweep through, using the official NPS list. cheers, doncram (talk) 19:25, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
By the way, feel free to announce your new articles in the new articles section of the wp:NRHP main page. You're doing a nice job, to have found photos for most of them. Listing there attracts some helpful attention on matters like categories and so on. And, about being "appalled", i am glad that someone else feels that way, finally! Please do let's finish this out.... cheers, doncram (talk) 19:58, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Looks like the following should be removed:
  • John Brown's HQ - rename to Kennedy Farm
  • Baltimore Business and Government District
  • Denton House
  • Ellicott City HD
  • Gambrill House
  • Seton Hill HD
  • Widehall
I started on this out of an interest in getting pictures of NRHP properties in MD, PA, WV and VA, since I get all around the area on business, and already have a few on hand. First, though, I wanted to figure out what needed pix: the answer was everything! So I'm doing articles for the pictures, in a way. Acroterion (talk) 20:11, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes, nearly have an article started for each NHL on the List of NHLs in MD. By the way, i like the links you add for the Maryland Trust or whatever that is. The link should should the title of the individual page, like "Gambrill House" or whatever, in my view, though. It would be great if u would add those to all the MD NHLs, assuming they are available. I am going to learn about Monocacy now.... doncram (talk) 11:48, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
I'll back-check the links I added and see what I can do for the rest. The Maryland Historical Trust is much better organized than most state bodies of its kind. An amusing factoid: Whitehall was managed after the departure of Horatio Sharpe by his secretary, John Ridout. The Maryland Historical Trust's executive director these days is Orlando Ridout V. Ridouts supposedly sold Kunta Kinte on his arrival at Annapolis. Acroterion (talk) 14:56, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

(unindent) I just revisited my articles on South Carolina sites, for example the first one covered by List of NHLs in SC. I and others implemented a standard format footnote and external link to the South Carolina Department of Archives and History webpage that exists for each SC NHL or other NRHP. SC is the most comparable to MD that i know of, that way.

How about the following formats for a footnote and for an external link, for Maryland Historical Trust sites:

  • Footnote format:
  • External link format:

*Whitehall, Anne Arundel County, including photo in 1979, at Maryland Historical Trust

See how this appears as example in the Whitehall, Maryland article. Note, I chose to use "Whitehall, Anne Arundel County" as the page title. That phrase is the title given for it by Maryland Historic Trust in its index of NHLs, page 7 of http://www.marylandhistoricaltrust.net/nr/NRNHLList.aspx. The actual page linked to just shows Property: Whitehall. Also note I am choosing to include a footnote format with a reusable name (you can cite later in the same article using ), and I am further adding pretty much the same info as an external link (but with a little customization to say that there is one photo taken in 1979 for this site). I think that for South Carolina and here, the website is really pretty good and deserves to be "promoted" as an external link, for readers who would like to know more. I do not choose to do that for the National Park Service's NHL summary webpages, which are good sources for some info like NHL date, but which I generally do not think too highly of for referring readers to.

You could choose to include the external links for these MHT summary webpages or not, either way is fine by me. But I do think that the footnote format that shows the name of the site, Whitehall in this case, is better than showing Maryland Historical Trust (which may suggest to the reader that it is a general website, not as good as a customized webpage about this particular place). What do you think? doncram (talk) 18:56, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Maybe for creating a title for each MHT summary webpage, it would be best to combine together only phrases that are visible in the article, like the Property Name field and the Location field. Hence, from "Property Name: Whitehall

Date Listed: 10/15/1966 Inventory No.: AA-325 Location: Whitehall Road, Skidmore, Anne Arundel County", select "Whitehall, Whitehall Road, Skidmore, Anne Arundel County" as the title to use in the footnote and/or external link. That would be consistent with the site names used in South Carolina comparable listings, too. I think that is better than just "Whitehall" and better than "Whitehall, Anne Arundel County" for this site. doncram (talk) 19:12, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

I think your suggestions are fine - I, too, struggled with the notion of what to title the refs, compounded by my general incompetency at setting up referencing formats. I tend to scavenge whatever looks good and adapt it to the occasion. More specificity is better, I think.
It appears that Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, and the Territories still need some work on their NHL lists I've been doing a few National Register articles in West Virginia to get to know the sources, but I'll shift over to the needier states with missing NHL's. You doing a great job, and I appreciate your advice! Acroterion (talk) 21:46, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I like the MHT ELs you're adding, it helps out the Accokeek Creek Site article a whole lot, for example, to include the MHT EL. About competency in references, well, i think we all try to get by mostly by finding one good example and copying it. I have a small collection of examples for some NRHP examples, stashed in the draft wp:NRHPMOS by the way.
Yes, those are indeed the states still needing NHL stubs to be created. Their lists are all in good shape in terms of being relatively accurate lists, perhaps fully verified (unlike the sad shape the incorrect MD list was in). But it still takes time to create the NHL articles, and your help on any of these will be greatly appreciated. I've been working on MD and on NM in parallel, so i guess i would want to finish MD then finish out NM next.... please do feel free to jump in there. doncram (talk) 03:21, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
I got bored with the MHT links (I'll be back), so I'm doing some easy Ohio stubs. Once I'm done with Huffman Prairie Flying Field, that's all for tonight. Acroterion (talk) 03:27, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
It has happened to me a bunch of times now, that i create an NHL article only to be informed that there already was one about the place. I end up merging the new article material into the pre-existing one, and leaving a redirect from the article named for the official NHL name of the place. I'd be grateful if you'd do that for the Huffman ones. I am a bit overwhelmed, there are a lot to go, and i am concerned that the NPS Focus website that serves up the very-useful NRHP nomination docs in PDF, has been malfunctioning. It's very hard to figure some of these out.... And Lvklock is being very helpful, but is identifying all the problem ones that i avoided in the past... cheers, doncram (talk) 08:56, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
No problem, I'll do the merge and see what other redlinks I can do. Acroterion (talk) 11:32, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Ohio NHLs, and NHL summary webpage

Hey, great about finishing out stubs and/or eliminating red-links for Ohio, together with Stepshep. As i noted to Stepshep, it would be nice also if the NHL articles could include NHL designation date in the NRHP infobox, supported by reference to NHL summary webpage. As i noted to him regarding my revision to Manasseh Cutler Hall, Ohio University, a page he had created:

  • the NRHP date is sometimes the same as NHL date, but is distinct and both are needed. NHL date can be before NRHP date or after it. For this one, NRHP date is Oct. 15, 1966 which is the beginning date of the NRHP, while this site and a lot of others were designated NHLs before then all those were added to NRHP on this date. The Elkman infobox generator provides the NRHP date (added = October 15 1966 for this one), which should be kept.
  • so for the NHL date, you get that from the NHL summary webpage (which you are familiar with). I cut and paste from another article, and then edit as necessary to add a fully described reference to the NHL webpage:
    designated = December 21, 1965
  • then besides that, i move the NRIS reference up to support the NRHP date (the added= field) because it looks better there in parallel to the NHL reference supporting the NHL date
  • and then i re-use the NHL webpage reference in the article
  • and i often add a county category, using county available in the NHL webpage, tho this is not important
Acroterion, it would be great either if you would keep going with other states, or if you chose to fix up these Ohio or Maryland one more. Either way, or neither, Thanks for what you've done already! doncram (talk) 23:11, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
I believe I'll tidy the new Ohio ones - I always find things on second and third readings. I still need to look at two dozen Maryland articles as well. In a couple of days I might start on Missouri. Acroterion (talk) 01:05, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

The company does not appear to meet notability guidelines. 2000 downloads are not much, and the article appears to be promotional in tone. Simple existence does not qualify web content, organizations or companies for inclusion - there must be some form of notice, such as third-party coverage in multiple, independent media. Texas NHLs and source

Thanks for contributing a bunch of Texas NHLs (at least i think it is you, because someone has been making red-links go away). Given the progress there, I am turning more to try to fix issues raised by Lvklock's review in other states, in the 4th of July NHL drive.

And nice add about the Texas Handbook site, to the NRHP resources list! I didn't know about that, and still don't know about any other state-specific source list that. If i knew how, I would award u some Texas-specific barnstar! Cheers, doncram (talk) 23:09, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it's been mostly me. There are three left, and I think there are three commonwealth/territorial NHL's left. Some of the new ones are the stumpiest possible stubs, so I'm going to mine the Handbook of Texas for expansion. I ran across the HoT in a Google search: I think I've seen it before - maybe in the library in college? Seems terribly useful, but I'm sure it's unique to Texas. Acroterion (talk) 00:24, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Mining sounds like you can be ruthless and efficient, which is a good thingk... :) Also, for National Historic Landmarks but not for most other NRHPs, the NRHP inventory/nomination docs (or NHL nomination docs) are available on-line. These are often very well researched and written, and can be definitive about exactly what was landmarked and so on. I just added such reference to U.S. Customhouse and Post Office in MO that you created. I have been routinely adding these to NHL articles, but haven't gotten to Texas ones and am not necessarily trying before 4th of July. What usually works, though, is to copy into an article, replace two occurences of "REFNUM" by the 8 digit NRHP reference number of the site, and then try the 2 PDF links it generates. Anyhow, you're doing great stuff. doncram (talk) 19:16, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Not a problem - there are some Real World disputes that are showing up in the article, and we need to be firm, yet tiptoe, if that's possible. Acroterion (talk) 02:21, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Just as an explanation: gotta love twinkle. Also, great job with the CSD patrol today. Thingg 20:34, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, that script just crawls sometimes. I wish there was a CSD other than G10 for dubious BLP's that aren't attacks, though. Thanks for the kind words - we seem to have a lot of attack articles today, not to mention wannabe spree vandals. Acroterion (talk) 20:37, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Retardo Music

WTF. Why is the Retardomusic article not legitimate? If someone wants to know about trolling, then this is a legitimate article! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blueskyboris (talkcontribs) 02:55, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

And you are providing a fine example of the species: you're editing disruptively. You've seen the AfD. Please stop. Acroterion (talk) 02:58, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

What are you talking about? I stopped trying to add it! I want an explanation, please!

--Blueskyboris (talk) 03:00, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

The article was deleted per the consensus in the AfD. You repeatedly re-created it. You're trolling now. Stop. Acroterion (talk) 03:02, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Please see this and this. All the best, Gwen Gale (talk) 22:42, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Fred Noonan

Ok - if you think its too long, leave it out.

Regarding my tone, if you think it's "harsh", there's a reason for it, and your editor Gwen Gale is the cause of that.

If you do not want me to rant, I won't, but would like information on who I should contact regarding her behavior as an editor. I have documented proof from some authors and historians who have had run ins with her over the course of a couple of years, not unlike what I experienced this weekend. As an editor, she is the one who is abusing her editing powers to promote propaganda. She should be banned.

If you would, how do I proceed with this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.94.225.40 (talk) 22:51, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

You have a content dispute, and have not conducted yourself with decorum: you've earned a (short) block from me for ignoring warnings about soapboxing, posting manifestos, and attacks on other editors. The appropriate route for content disputes is via a request for comment, not by trying to get those you disagree with "banned". Gwen Gale appropriately recused herself after due consideration - people make mistakes - and you were unblocked, but chose to pursue a vendetta. Please stop, and devote your efforts toward constructive editing. Acroterion (talk) 23:25, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

He's still going strong, sadly. Gwen Gale (talk) 03:54, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

I missed the full extent of the nastiness this morning, dealing with a small veterinary emergency concerning a large dog. Pinkville made a noble attempt at reason, but gave up when he found the edit in question. Acroterion (talk) 17:20, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Big Inch, etc.

I just noticed, coincidentally (quite unrelated to the other recent issue: oh, and see No. 33, which I think applies) that you wrote Big Inch! Nice work; just three nights ago I wrote the East Texas Oil Field article, since I noticed that the existing article had been a copyright violation for in excess of two years, and in writing that I learned what the Big Inch was. Oy veh. And another thing: you beat me on AutoCAD by a bit. I've only been using it since R12, and that's 15 years. Thank you for your help in the other place. Best regards, Antandrus (talk) 03:41, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

I always thought Big Inch was an odd name. I finally did a little research one evening and realized that we had no article, so there it is. I was inordinately proud of it, I'll admit. The Handbook of Texas is a gold mine.
I'll be installing AutoCAD 2009 on some new workstations next week, but my skills are stuck back around 2000. I started using AutoCAD around 1985, I think, and in earnest in '89. The newer people in the office have passed me by in the skills department, which is fine because I can give them more assignments.
As for the other place, subtlety appears to be wasted. Acroterion (talk) 17:31, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Meanwhile, Noam awaits you...

If you have a moment, please have a gander at this Jovian moon's recent edits. Thanks. Pinkville (talk) 01:55, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
