--- Hi, I've noticed that you're adding indents to your edits? Please don't do this; it mucks up the formatting (The formatter assumes any line starting with a space is to be monospaced).

Thanks, and keep up the good edits! :) Dysprosia 07:22, 5 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Hi. Please see the changes I made to Tim Johnson. There are already-existing articles with the names that I've linked to the links you keep creating. The articles you're creating are great, but please use standard editing formats. RickK 05:14, 12 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Hello. I notice you're creating articles about politicians without following the highlighting convention. Conventionally the title word or title phrase is highlighted at its first appearance, like this. See my editing of a few of your articles for examples of what I mean. Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thanks for all your contributions. Why not create an account so your user name will be attributed to your articles?

I hope you continue to enjoy editing here . Daniel Quinlan 09:08, Nov 15, 2003 (UTC)

P.S. Ditto what Rick and Michael said. I made a few similar minor touch-ups to your great additions. Keep it up. :-)

You're still not getting it. PLEASE use correct formatting. RickK 09:12, 15 Nov 2003 (UTC)~

Manual of Style

[edit]

Hello, Academic Challenger. Great job adding all those U.S. politicians. As you proceed, I would recommend taking a look at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies) for tips on how to format the articles. Specifially, the name of the person should be in bold (using three single-quotes: ) and the person's date of birth should go in parentheses right after the name. Keep up the great work! --Minesweeper 04:47, 22 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Style note

[edit]

Just a minor thing - you are doing XXX (born) Sektober 1 2525, when it should be XXX (born Sektober 1, 2525), ie with the brackets covering the date also. I only mention this as you are doing good work and this seems to be a persistent thing... Morwen 09:02, 27 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Democrats and Republicans

[edit]

Just a note: The pages Democratic Party and Republican Party are disambiguation pages, so they should not be linked to in articles that refer specifically to the United States Democratic Party and United States Republican Party. Also, a democrat is not the same thing as a Democrat and a republican is not the same as a Republican. When refering to a member of the political party, you should capitalize the name to make this distinction more clear. Thanks, Minesweeper 12:05, Jan 3, 2004 (UTC)

Adminship

[edit]

Hi. I saw your request for adminship. After looking at your edit history, I realized that your edit count is low largely because so many of your edits are starting new pages instead of making small changes to existing articles. In fact, you're doing great work as a contributor - I noticed that we didn't have an article on my state's governor until you wrote one. I think you've been around long enough to be trusted not to intentionally abuse adminship.

However, I'm not sure why you want adminship. I suspect that you're applying because you're under the imression that adminship is some sort of "senior editor" position. That's not really true. Admin powers are used for Wikipedia housekeeping - things like fighting vandals, maintaining the Wikipedia:Votes for deletion page, and stopping edit wars. You're doing good work as a contributor, but you haven't shown any interest at all in housekeeping. Unless you're going to start doing those things now, you won't get any advantage from being an admin. Also, I'm a little worried that if you did start using your power, you wouldn't know how to use them properly since you haven't been involved in admin-type work before. I suggest just continuing the good work you're doing.

If you are still interested in adminship after reading the above, let me know why on my talk page and I'll consider supporting your nomination. Isomorphic 10:07, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I understand. We all put a lot of time and effort into this site, and it's nice to have people recognize your efforts. Don't feel like you have to become an admin to be recognized, or start doing housekeeping duties. Keep writing good material, and people notice. We need people who actually write content as well as people who maintain the site. Happy editing, Isomorphic 22:31, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi there. In recognition of the huge amount of work you've done improving Wikipedia's coverage of political figures, I've awarded you a barnstar. You're a Sysop!

[edit]

I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. Congratulations! You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia | Talk 23:01, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Blogwar

I didn't raise the delete against blogwar, but I note that case 3 of speedy deletions is vandalism including spam ... and I'd opine that this entry is just that: self-promotional spam. That being the case, your "not a speedy" may not in fact be correct. --Tagishsimon (talk)

Article Licensing

[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

RFC pages on VfD

[edit]

Should RFC pages be placed on VfD to be deleted? I'm considering removing Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Slrubenstein, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Jwrosenzweig and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/John Kenney from WP:VFD. Each of them was listed by CheeseDreams. Your comments on whether I should do this would be appreciated. - Ta bu shi da yu 03:14, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Controversy

[edit]

I have been involved in many controversies because I have been attempting to sort out controversial pages with controversial users. I have not been causing the controversy (except in this instance). I don't feel I need a break, though I appreciate your concern for my wikistress. - Ta bu shi da yu 06:22, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Remember to "test"

[edit]

Just a reminder to leave "test" template-based notes on the pages of vandals, no matter how petty their crime. Usually one gentle nudge is enough to get them to stop, but without the nudge, they'll just continue on, thinking they went unnoticed. -- user:zanimum

I think this WikiProject is going to be really helpful, so I would like to restart it. I think this is a really good idea. We can also get some other people to participate in this project. --Lst27 (talk) 20:57, 13 Jan 2005 (UTC)

  • Salve, Academic Challenger!
I signed up for it some time ago because I'm interested in goverment and have a b.a. in poli sci. I did create a number of articles on politicians that interested me--see User:PedanticallySpeaking/Articles#Government.2C_Political_Science for some of my work. I've not been as active as I had been but certainly the project is a good one. Another user you might contact is User:Acsenray, who has done much work on Ohio's politicians.
As you can see, Ohio has been my emphasis. Let me know some Ohioans who need articles and I'll see what I can do. Ave! PedanticallySpeaking 14:20, Jan 15, 2005 (UTC)

I'm willing to participate, but it may be in name only as I don't expect to make a commitment beyond what I am already doing (mainly adding bioguide images for senators and for representatives who have them in the last couple of weeks). Ground 01:39, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit]

Thanks, it would be wonderful to have you write some articles. If you want to write about press coverage and/or requests for adminship, that would be great. For the time being, I think I'll handle arbitration case updates myself, as that's a subject I particularly focus on, although if I get personally involved in the process itself then I'll definitely let someone else take over.

If you write something about the results of the speedy deletion poll, one thing that would be interesting to know is whether it's caused any real change in how people handle speedy deletions. Also, if you encounter any other subjects in your Wikipedia activity that you think would be newsworthy for the community in general, you're welcome to write about those or pass the information along to me.

If you can let me know what you've been working on by sometime this weekend, I'll look it over and add it to the next issue. Thanks for volunteering to help. --Michael Snow 18:18, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC)

The other reporters and I have been putting things on our user subpages; just let me know which subpages those are, and once everything's ready (after any last-minute edits and such), I'll move them into the Wikipedia namespace for publication, so to speak. --Michael Snow 02:26, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)

An idea for the article about press coverage: It appears that the Republic of China has announced a "Taiwan Encyclopedia" that is going to be edited somewhat like Wikipedia (here's the article). While the story only mentions Wikipedia once, since they're explicitly adopting us as a model, it could be an interesting story to talk about, such as what they plan to imitate and what they plan to do that's different. --Michael Snow 06:28, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, I probably won't get around to editing them for another 24 hours or so, but I'll let you know when I've finished that. I'm probably going to break up the press coverage piece just a little; I think we can do a separate article on Jimbo's nomination for the Wired Rave Awards. --Michael Snow 01:28, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)
My edits are all finished and the articles were included in the third issue. I mixed the RfA article into a combined "News and notes" column that also covered new featured articles and pictures.
If you see any problems with the articles, feel free to fix them even after publication, of course. Also, thanks very much for your contributions. Your help made my work a little easier, and I look forward to seeing more articles from you in the future. --Michael Snow 17:12, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

boobed?

[edit]

Hi, I'm contacting you as a random administrator to ask you to check something. Last night I moved the article which is now at Medieval German Literature. I did use the move button, I thought correctly, but somewhere along the way the history has been lost. And the discussion, but that is no problem, since I was the only one who had written there. The odd thing is that in my contributions list the move is indicated twice. No idea what I've done - obviously boobed. Or the programme glitched at the moment I did it. Anyway, can this be corrected? --Doric Loon 20:00, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Requesting a comment about Naming Policies from fellow wikipedist

Hello and greetings
I am an student from the National University of Saint Mark in Lima, Peru, or also called UNMSM, i wish to have your personal opinion about the naming policy of calling the university Saint Mark instead San Marcos, i am supporting Saint Mark based in the opinion of the Catholic Church (the same institution which named the university in the first place) precedent of anglicise the name.1 Article from Catholic Encyclopedia. This user called User:Viajero is trying to impose his point of view even without reach a compromise about the use of the anglicise name, by his own is destroying and modifying all articles that has the name National University of Saint Mark replacing by his point of view of the name. 50 Bands

[edit]

You deleted my article, chastised me, threatened me on my Talkpage, all before I had time to form a response and figure out where to post it. I'm not that fast with this medium yet.

It was not a subjective list that I was creating. It is an existing list put out by Q Magazine in 2002, that I was recreating. It is widely referred to in the music world. It is referrenced in the numerous existing WikiP articles about many of the bands on the list. When someone reads the article about the Rolling Stones, for example, and sees that it was on the list, the reader naturally wants to know what other WikiP pages exist on bands that were named on the list, and there are several. The page I was creating would direct them to the other existing WikiP articles about bands on the list.

Other pages already exist like the one I was creating. For example 100 Greatest Kids' TV shows, List of movies that have been considered the greatest ever, List of movies that have been considered among the worst ever. I hope you don't delete those pages too. They appear quite helpful on their topics, as mine would have been.

The page I was making was in crude form at the time you deleted it, so I can understand your confusion about what I was doing. But, the purpose of my article was not nonsense, and I don't really appreciate you calling it that. I hope you don't treat all of the newbies here like this. It is not particularly inspiring, fair, or nice.

If you have any suggestions or tips for how to go about creating a page without creating this problem or confusion in the future, I be happy to listen. Thanks. RyanKoppelman 03:49, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • Hello, Academic Challenger. One way to avoid this problem – which many of us runs across while we're still learning the ropes – is to flesh out the details of the article as best you can before submitting its initial form. For this, I find the "show preview" button to be my savior from the deletionists. :) I hope this helps! – ClockworkSoul 06:31, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • Hmm, I thought your name was too familiar to me to be having this particular problem. That'll teach me to read the signatures more closely from now on. Sorry to bug ya. :/ – ClockworkSoul 14:22, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Please consider commenting on the discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Is move page broken?. Hello, Academic Challenger. Yes, I did block him. You may have noticed that I left him a nice note thanking him for his help in reverting vandalism. Within minutes, my post was pasted onto the PWOT boards along with a note that he was "gaining our trust". I would have ignored this, but the facts that he referred to me as "Cockwork" and that my post coincided with vandalisms of my user page suggested that his intentions were not entirely honorable. Given the situation that was occuring at that Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Pointless Waste of Time, I'm sure you could understand my reactions... history articles on wikipedia

[edit]

Hello Academic Challenger, I’m an historian working at the Center for History and New Media at George Mason University (http://chnm.gmu.edu/) and we are very interested in digital historical works, including the writing of history on Wikipedia. We’d like to talk to people about their experiences working on articles in Wikipedia, in connection with a larger project on the history of the free and open source software movement. Would you be willing to talk with us about your involvement, either by phone, a/v chat, IM, or email? This could be as lengthy or brief a conversation as you wish.

Thanks for your consideration.

rename

[edit]

Hi, I was just wondering why you moved Francisco Morales Bermúdez to Francisco Morales Bermúdez Cerruti. As a general rule, we don't include the apellido matrimonial, the mother's family name, in article names for Spanish and Portuguese people. Our style guidelines are quite explicit about this; see: Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#Spanish_family_names. Do you have a compelling reason for making an exception in this case? Thanks. -- Viajero 11:02, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, now I see why you may have done this: he was listed with the double family name on List of state leaders in 1980 through List of state leaders in 1980. I fixed that and moved the article back to its original location with the appropriate redirects intact. Cheers, -- Viajero 12:05, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Stephan Kinsella was voted deleted Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Stephan Kinsell and was deleted. Mr. Kinsella himself has recreated the page about himself. He has bragged about it on his blog. [2] Someone linked him under "Noted" Patent attorneys. I can't figure out how to re-propose his page for deletion, because his old deletion page is locked. Assistance, please? Maybe point me in the right direction.

Greetings. In the past, you've contributed to the Louisville, Kentucky article. I thought you'd like to know that it's currently being voted on as a featured article. If you'd like to vote, you can do so at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Louisville, Kentucky. – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) 14:28, July 26, 2005 (UTC)

Hi. I see you've reverted an "experiment" by User:67.167.222.41 before, so I wanted to call another to your attention. I see a comment by this user on Talk:Jeanine Pirro that seems inappropriate to me - or maybe it's just using an odd nickname for the subject of the article - but I don't know the etiquette for what's appropriate on Talk pages. Is this comment OK? Or should it be reverted? Thanks, --Tregonsee 03:19, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal Vendetta

This is doubly annoying as I was the originator of many of the Wikipages and my web pages provide additional in-depth information on these subjects. This has been going on for weeks. I think protecting them for about 1 month would be a good idea. That vandal is completely obsessed and probably mentally ill. Another good idea would be to permanently block all his IP addresses from editing. Let me know what you think. Thanks!--FWDixon 13:54, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You wrote "We cannot really predict what the vandal will do now, after I protect the pages. Thanks for all your help. If you could protect all the pages about the different stories and other subsidiary pages it would go a long way to dissuade this maniac from his vandalism spree. Again, thanks to you and all the others for your help.--FWDixon 11:57, 15 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Once again I want to thank you for all your help. Clearly this vandal is a determined sort, probably demented to boot. Academic Challenger deleted "Tim Wongs sexual orientation" (content was: 'Nonsense, bad joke, the article only has three wordsI like gerbils.' (and the only contributor was 'Commander Keane'))

Looks like you deleted the article Watmm on August 12th.. might I ask why? A copy of the article is still at answers.com and I see nothing wrong with it. Outside view of "Vandal Vendetta"

[edit]

Hi there. Fwdixon may well be a good guy and not be aware of it (his newbie mistakes make that seem likely), but his behavior does indeed amount to link spamming (in my opinion, anyway). In several instances he called "vandalism" what I would have done had I come across these articles earlier. I didn't check nearly all articles, but it's pretty obvious that the anonymous accusers have a point. Rl 15:26, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Rl. The links go back to a page with big red "buy it now" links. While there is some detailed information at the top of that page, it is not exactly neutral, either, and the links on the articles here on the wiki don't even point to that part of the page: they aim directly at the "buy it now" section. I don't know that Fwdixon is actually intending to spam, but so many links pointing to the same page looks like spamming to me. Joyous (talk) 17:45, August 20, 2005 (UTC)

Despite this, the links keep being put back and the pages are protected in a fruitless attempt to ensure they remain. There is a lot of talk about concensus but agreement that this is obvious link spamming for commercial purposes hasn't changed a thing and the plagiarism issue which is easily verified is ignored. The detailed information that the shameless plagiarist refers to below is book format info etc that he copied directly from copyrighted books.

the links on the articles here on the wiki don't even point to that part of the page: they aim directly at the "buy it now" section. If you are refering to the links from the various title pages, they point to detailed information on the title in question. If you go deeper into my site (by clicking on the title), you find even more information on the publishing history of the title. So I have some commercial links, so what? The hosting fees have to be paid. Wikipedia links to thousands of pages with commercial content, annoying Google AdSense ads and other annoying banner ads. And as far as having a NPOV, why should I? After all it's called the Hardy Boys Unofficial Home Page, not the NPOV Home Page!--FWDixon 21:26, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Whether the links are legitimate or not, the anonymous user's current behavior is totally unacceptable. He's running roughshod over the community and he doesn't give a hoot about consensus. Based on the comments he left at Talk:Stratemeyer Syndicate, I'm not certain he can even be reasoned with on this issue. I've tried talking to him; I think it will soon be time to temporarily block the IP addresses he's operating from. A few days should be enough to give us time to revert his "spammer and plagiarist" edits.
I'd offer to take him to Wikipedia:Third opinion if I thought he'd actually listen to other people's advice. --Ardonik.talk()* 15:49, August 23, 2005 (UTC)
I initially spent alot of time reverting edits which removed the links, but stopped when it simply descended into an edit war. Continous multiple anonymous edits aimed at one source really get my goat up and I believe it should be stopped. The user changes IP addresses to carry on his work, and when he doesn't have the decency to create an account and stand by his changes it is against the spirit of Wikipedia. However if I had come across the links, I too would have removed them. They are too wide spread. One link to from the main Hardy Boys page is fine, but one from every book title, which doesn't initially link to detailed information about the book is link spamming IMHO. The Hardy Boys itself article has two links to bobfinnan.com. I won't be reverting the link removal in the future - but I think the IP addresses in question should also be blocked. --PhilipO 17:10, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
but one from every book title, which doesn't initially link to detailed information about the book is link spamming But it does initially link to information on the title including release dates, author info, revision history, artist info, type of revision and a plot summary. Clicking on the title brings up another page with publishing history and cover art scans. How much more detailed can I get?--FWDixon 23:39, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Page Protection

[edit]

Hello Academic Challenger. A consensus has been reached on this issue at User talk:Fwdixon/fwdixon1. I am under the impression you have protected these pages. Would you please unprotect them so the edits can be carried out? Cheers --PhilipO 23:05, August 27, 2005 (UTC)

I believe an individual with id Joshuaschroeder has been wrongly editing a page. It appears he has not followed the 3 revert rule (if I understand it correctly). Rouge River (Quebec)

While doing disambuguation between the Rouge River in Ontario and the River Rouge in Michigan (both of which have real articles), I came across some articles about Quebec which were incorrectly pointing to the Ontario river.

Therefore I created a stub for Rouge River (Quebec) hoping someone who knows Western Quebec geography will fill it out. Since you have speedy-deleted this article (instead of VfD), what in your opinion would have been the right way to handle these links to an as-yet-undescribed river?

These are the arguments posted on the page of "Moldovan language".

For these facts many users have been blocked and more forced to accept an unilateral point of view of the Administrator Mikkalai and 16 years old Kid Node _ue. He does not bring arguments as we do, instead he uses his power to block many times (for one week or 24 h). Like for yourself, he warned you and mock on you saying that you don't have the right to say something.

I agree with you when you say to redirect to "Romanian language". Anyway "Romanian" was once recognized in the constitution as official language of the Moldova between 1991-1994 and many attempts to remake this were done.

"Moldovan language" is in fact indentical with Romanian language, renamed as a "language" for political reasons by the government. Although similar theories have been fielded for other languages, this proposal is now believed to have been made to serve political purposes only, and nobody has provided any evidence so-far towards the idea that Moldovan and Romanian are not from common linguistic stock.

The term "Moldovan" is also a soviet invention (see Dept. of State & CIA). A separate language based on these was declared and promoted for political reasons, in order to further advance a Moldovan identity separate from that of Romania.

The soviet Russians called people of Moldavia Republic: "Moldovan" because they wanted to create a new nation different from Moldavians/Romanians.

There is also in Romania a region called Moldova.

Russians manipulated people of Republic of Moldova and washed their brains to create a new person, the soviet "Moldovan". The real name in English is Moldavian, in Romanian is Moldovean and in Russian is Molidavanin. So "Moldovan" belongs to no language!

taken from Price, Glanville. Encyclopedia of the Languages of Europe. ISBN 0631220399; Blackwell Publishers, Oxford, UK; April 2000

Very interesting. For those who bother making a click on the link I will cite:

"The name 'Moldovan language' (in Russian, МОЛДaВCKИЙ ЯЗБIK 'moldavskii iazyk'); in Romanian, limbă moldovenească, or, in Cyrillic characters, ЛИMбЗ MOЛДОBeНЯCKЗ was applied in the Soviet Union, as during earlier periods of Russian occupation of the area in question, to the * Romance language used in the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic (corresponding more or less to the formerly Romanian territory of Bessarabia, annexed by the Soviet Union in 1940). In reality, 'Moldavian' is nothing else than the *Romanian language as spoken in Moldavia, i.e. both east of the river Prut in Bessarabia (now the Republic of Moldova) and west of the Prut in that part of the former province that remains as part of Romania. Claims made in the post-Second World War period by the Soviet linguists that 'Moldavian' should be recognized as a distinct Romance language were not taken into seriously by western scholars. Under Soviet domination, the *Cyrillic alphabet was in the use in the Moldavian SSR until the passing of a law on 31 August 1989 (i.e. before the break-up of the Soviet Union) proclaiming Moldavian as the official language of the Republic and the use of Latin script. Apart from a few lexical differences (mainly technical terms borrowed from Russian rather than, as in standard Romanian, from western languages), the written language was thenceforth indistinguishable from that in use in Romania and moves are afoot to harmonize the technical terminology of Moldova with that adopted in Romanian specialized dictionaries. After the Republic of Moldova declared its independence of the Soviet Union in 1991, its Constitution (1994) declared that the official language was limba moldoveneasca 'the Moldavian language'. At the time of writing, moves to have this amended to 'limba română' the Romanian language have not yet succeeded.

GLANVILLE PRICE"

Even at the internationally level (officially) is recognized that in Moldova the people speak romanian. Just for your record the US State Dept. (their foreign office), the french ministry of foreign affairs(France), the UK foreign office (UK), the german ministry of foreign affairs (Germany) are stating one think: in Moldova it is spoken romanian. romanian is the official language even if the name is moldovan. For the others motivated "moldovan language" followers please check the links:

  • US State Department, USA
  • France – Ministere des Affaires Etrangeres
  • UK – Foreign & Commonwealth Office

Others except the Russian are in the same manner. All the western powers refuse the russification attempts.

Artificial creation of the "Moldavian language". Evolution from Romanian to so called Moldavian

[edit]

Lately were discovered some facts that prove that the theory of the both languages romanian and "moldovan" - was prefab since the 1812-1918. Some important aspects of the problematics: functioning of the romanian language in the sphere of the laic education system from Bessarabia of the year 1812-1918, the attempts to codyfing the romanian language in conditions of a linguistic situations, causes that determined to degradation of the language compared with spoken romanian on the right side of the river Prut, taking out the name "romanian" and introducing the term "limba moldoveneasca", the intention of the tsarist government "to create a dialect neared to the slavic language".

In the first years of russian occupation (after 1812), because 95% of the population being romanians which they knew only their mother tongue, romanian was admitted as an official language in the institutions of Bessarabia, used along with russian. Gradually the russian language win importance. According to the dates offered by the Dept. for ruling the Bessarabia from 1828, the papers from bureau were held only in russian, and around 1835 it is established a term of 7 years time in which the state institutions will still accept acts in romanian language. As concerning the education, romanian was admitted as language of teaching only until 1842, after that being taught as a separate object. Thus, at the theological Seminar of Chişinău, romanian language is found on the list of compulsory subjects, with 10 hours weekly, until 1863, when the department of romanian is closed for good. At the highschool no. 1 from Chişinău the pupils had the right to choose between romanian and german or between romanian and greek until 9th of Feb. 1866, when the state counselor of the russian government interdicts teaching of the romanian language because the pupils "know this language in the practical mode, and its teaching follows other goals". Around 1871, the tsar published an ucaz "On the suspension of teaching the romanian language in the schools from Besserabia", because "In russian Empire are not taught local speeches".

Two examples of the identity were given: (one is from the constitution of both countries – see the identity)

Comparison Romanian/Moldavian

[edit]

The example below demonstrates that a formal text in Romanian and Moldovan may be completely identical, the only difference being the spelling of the î vowel in the word vântul. The colloquial languages show more difference, which varies over the area.

Moldavian Romanian English

About the nonsense...

[edit]

You just sent me a message asking me to stop posting nonsense in wikipedia...

Well, sorry, but to be honest my point was to illustrate to someone the reasoning behind why Wikipedia is nonesensical in nature, regardless of what benefits it does have.

If it were truly possible I would love to see wikipedia subject to more stringent academic and editorial controls.

Just FYI, I have also personally edited multiple pages in wikipedia because the information was so subtley fallacious. (see: Perry Farrell ... who was previously listed as being born Simon Bernstein, which is such obvious misinformation that it has been known as fallacious in knowledgable circles for YEARS... and yes, maybe I illustrate the minor strength of wikipedia in having edited it, but the question is, how many articles are there that remain unperused, and unedited... how much misinformation is too much? )

Dude, AC proved you wrong. Wikipedia works. Get over it.

As a resident of Rutherford, New Jersey, I wanted to thank you for the thorough work you did on the man for whom the borough is named. I didn't have the time to research him and I left a broken link when I worked on the Rutherford page. I'm gratified to see that it's now filled! CharlieZeb 03:59, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Sorry about the article. I knew there was some looseness for random articles (Like The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything), but I was unsure how much. Thanks for the correction. --James 20:06, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sources for Vasil Kolarov

[edit]

Hello, good work on Vasil Kolarov, and thanks for the contribution. However, you did not provide any references or sources in the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. From what websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to Vasil Kolarov? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? You can simply add links, or see WP:CITET if you wish to review some of the different citation methods. Thanks! Lupin|talk|popups 23:30, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello, fellow Esperanzians! This is just a friendly reminder that elections for Administrator General and two advisory council positions have just begun. Wikimongerer

[edit]

"Please stop posting the "wikimonger" article. And if you have any connection with DJMooney, who is posting a similar article, please tell him to stop as well. This is not just because it is hostile to Wikipedia. The main problem that is that it is a made-up word and Wikipedia is not the place or made-up words that are only used by a few people. Academic Challenger 09:20, 27 December 2005 (UTC)"

First of all, I'd like to know how "wikimongerer" is at all hostile to wikipedia. The term merely refers to a certain behavioral pattern exhibited by some wikipedians. It's like saying that the page on serial killer is hostile towards human beings. Or towards earth. Secondly, there are plenty of pages on wikipedia that are "made up words" (which should not be hyphenated, btw). Kindly remove yourself from yourself in whatever way is easiest for you.

I got messages from him about asking him to revert his user page, and he said that he did not want to. So, what I did is I blanked the page and I left a paragraph in the invisible notes explaining about the blanking and the authorization I got from him to blank it. Welcoming new users

[edit]

Thanks for your work in welcoming new users, such as User:Elmo12456. When you use a template such as welcome please include the subst: command, so that the text reads . By doing this you will insert the text of the template rather than just a link to the template that has to be reloaded every time the page is refreshed. This will reduce the load on the Wikipedia servers and conserve resources. This should be done when using the test, test1, test2 etc templates as well. Thanks for your help and let me know if you have any other questions. EdwinHJ | Talk 04:51, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Samuel Pasco

[edit]

Hi. Just wanted to let you know that I filled in some stuff on your Samuel Pasco page including the removal of Smith as his middle name. I think that was inadvertently copied from the line above it in Fifty-fifth United States Congress. To make sure, I searched around the Internet and found no reference to him having any middle name - including on his tombstone!  :) wknight94 04:36, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Information: New Help Group

[edit]

This message is to inform you about a new group whose aim is to try and answer Wikipedians' questions. The group is based here, and is so far nameless. If you can offer any help by improving the pages or by answering any questions, then you are very welcom to do so. You are also welcome to raise any questions.

If you know of anyone who would either like to know about this or could benefit from it, then please tell them. Thank you. The Neokid 19:04, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Move from user page.

[edit]

I must tell you, I was thinking the same thing! However, there are two problems:

  • The group doesn't have a name yet. Have you got any ideas?
  • I don't know how I would be able to tell users about the group. One person (who was not in any way involved) has had the nerve to claim that I am spammming. I doubt that he will understand my point of view, which of-course poses the problem of me getting banned.

Thank you for your interest! I hope you can help us. The Neokid 17:09, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Welcome template idea but still no name

I like the welcome template idea, and yes there must be a better name. I'm sure one will spring to mind soon (at least I hope so). The Neokid 10:32, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Challenger!

[edit]

Hi there! I'm kinda baffled at somehing that just happened, and maybe you can help me understand. I just tagged an article for speedy, which you promptly deleted; I see you also warned the user who posted it originally at his talk page. Yet, only my tagging appeared at the article's history, and at the deletion log, I also appear as the only contributor. Could you please enlighten me? Thank you! Kisses, - Phædriel tell me 00:27, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking the time to explain it to me, AC. I keep trying not to mess up, so I'm releieved to see I actually didn't ;-) Thx again, and see you around - Cheers! - Phædriel tell me 00:35, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

please stop

[edit]

I am trying to write an article, please stop deleting it.

who are you to say who's important enough to be in a free internet encyclopedia?

[edit]

No, the end of that article was the result of me going to the bathroom and forgetting to log off. My younger brother finished it off for me without my consent.

Why do you delete my article?

[edit]

Why o, why do you keep deleting an article about an actual person, who is, within his local community a very big celebrity? If it is because of profanities, I can delete those or (sic) them.

Alright

[edit]

I can agree on the Mozart thing, but the cigarettes should stay. Sorry for jumping to conclusions before.

An Esperanzial note

[edit]

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: EA-welcome (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion vote

[edit]

Greetings, Academic!
In the VFD on Peter Fossett you supported my position to preserve the article, which was on a candidate for Congress in Ohio. Several of the candidates whose articles were deleted I put on a special "minor candidates" page, which is now up for deletion as well. I wonder if you would offer your comments there. It is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ohio second congressional district other candidates. PedanticallySpeaking 17:06, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hey, sorry for recreating my page...I guess you deleted it like 10 seconds after I put it up, so I thought it didn't save it or something, so I recreated it.

can you block the "chuck norris vandal" please?

[edit]

I've been following this guy for a while now and I've manually reverted a series of "chuck norris" vandalisms - including your userpage by the way. Can you block 212.219.63.204 please. Cheers, Witty lama 09:45, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, he's back! He is now know as User:Chris jol. So far he has chuck norris'd the userpage of everyone involved in his last apparition's blocking and reverting. As you can see, he has even put his chuck norris edits on his OWN page. Bizzare. Can you block this one and maybe list him as a sockpuppet? I'm quite new to this but I do get a kick out of catching them! Witty lama 10:15, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The sockpuppet account has been blocked indefinitely. --BorgQueen 10:31, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thank you for reverting the vandalism on my user pages earlier today. I see the vandal hit you as well. You'll be on my watchlist now, so maybe I can return the favor sometime. -- Dalbury(Talk) 12:59, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fancruft is not a word.

[edit]

Buddy, fancruft is a made up word too, and I don't see anyone pissing about the fact that it has a page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Imav (talkcontribs) 23:12, 7 February 2006

No, I think the issue here is that "wikimongerer" a word that was coined by you and used only by you and your friends. In other words, it isn't in common usage, whereas "fancruft" is and thus has its own entry. When it gets cited by someone notable (besides you and your friends) and gets a lot more than two google hits, it will be in Wikipedia somewhere. See WP:NOT, especially "Not a Dictionary" and "Not a Publisher of Original Thought."

Am I right AC? I just happened upon this and thought I'd put in my two cents as a neutral observer. Gershwinrb 09:56, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this is right. I was puzzled when I saw Imav's message because I dleeted that article months ago and I don't think I even used the word fancraft. Academic Challenger 10:07, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another Esperanzial note...

[edit]

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

We meet again

[edit]

I was puttering around the RC and I noticed this new article Can guzelis. It looks like the newbie who created it removed your proposed tag. It looks like it might be an actual person worthy of an article (I've never heard of him, but that's no deletion criterion), but if the article is to stay, it needs a substantial rewrite and verification. I'm putting cleanup and stub tags on it for now. Cheers. Gershwinrb 11:04, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
