Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Dinosaurs/dinosaur articles by size. Would it be helpful to set up something like this for WP:ORE? I was checking out their project because someone at WP:KANSAS mentioned that they "churn out FAs like clockwork..." Katr67 18:23, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Barlow Road

Thanks for the reassessment of Barlow Road. Any particular reason you removed my last addition to the talk page? —EncMstr 18:34, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

I don't necessarily endorse splitting it off, but as long as it was, I figured I would try to clean up the mess--thanks for finishing up. So is that part of GA criteria to remove lists from articles? If not, I agree the split probably wasn't needed. Katr67 20:33, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

As far as I know it is not in the critera, just misguided personal preference. Along with moving the pictures around, which the preference for images is not all on the right, the editor only made cosmetic changes. The main problem with splitting off the list is that it could easily be AFD'd. At some point I even thought of making a seperate Oregon Supreme Court Chief Justice article that would have the list, but I didn't see enough content to justify a seperate article. This whole new GA review is odd, I mean the captiol was reviewed a week after it passed. Odd, but oh well. Aboutmovies 20:56, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed your comments on the talk page about Neil Goldschmidt. I'd encourage you to stay invovled in the discussion if you have time as you see to have a pretty balanced opinion. The anon ip is currently unwilling to discuss changes before asking them, which is frustrating at best. Whoever the anon ip is, seems deadset on inserting their own POV into the article. Digimarc edit

I'm a little confused why you added the notability box to the Digimarc Corporation article. The company controls over 60% of the US drivers license market. That seems pretty notable to me. 28bytes 05:15, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

I hope you didn't take offense at my question. I am indeed familiar with the notability guidelines. I'm sorry if you took it personally that I had a question about your edit. It just seemed odd to me that, in a week where the company is getting a great deal of press coverage, you put a notability box on the article instead of linking to the coverage. 28bytes 16:54, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
My mistake, you are correct, you tagged it in September, not October. If you still feel that the company's not notable, you just keep that box right on there. Sorry to have wasted your precious time with my stupid questions. 28bytes 18:30, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

I added some stuff to Putnam since you assessed it. He was quite the mover and shaker in Oregon for a few years. Do you think he deserves a "mid"? I'm not invested either way--I never heard of the dude before, except in connection with that homewrecker, Amelia Earhart... COTW award

Hey, thank you very much for the COTW award for Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. However, I would argue that EngineerScotty made some much more substantive contributions than I did, and was there early showing leadership in how the article should develop and showing real buy-in to the larger COTW effort. All I did, really, was add some nice visuals late in the game, and mostly on parts relating to Washington rather than Oregon. Hey there, I'm impossibly beseiged by real life work right now, and can't do as thorough a reading of Hillsboro, Oregon as I wanted to. Sorry about that. I did leave some brief comments there, I hope they're helpful.

Also, Columbia River was just reviewed for GA, and the reviewer made some excellent observations. Unfortunately it looks like a pretty big job to meet all the demands before the GA hold expires. I wonder if you might consider making that a COTW next week. I know it's a last minute request, so if you have other plans that's fine of course, but if you're able to fit it in I think it would be a good one. -Pete 21:45, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

RE: Admin

Thank you for discussing this with me, I would first like to inform you that this comment was not specifically directed at you but the many editors who feel the same way as you. Second, my poor use of words has led you astray, I do not think cadets are just police officers minus the gun, and I will admit it was a poor use of words. A Police cadet is a sworn member of the Law Enforcement Community, thought limited to what they can and can not do. My view of what a police Cadet is has not changed sense this RfA, and will never change as it is my career and i know what i can and can not do, I understand the great ethical and honesty requirements of working as a police officer and a cadet, so to answer your question, no i do not still think cadets are cops without guns, cause that is not what i thought to begin with, i know what i am. I beleive i have also owned up to many mistakes here on wikipedia and in real life, and have done so multiple times through out my RfA. Though we may differ on our views, i still thank you for your comment, Cheers! Tiptoety 01:34, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

And I haven't cracked the DYK world yet, I tend to edit so incrementally that I don't often think of it. But when I expand George W. Please advise Article on Mo's Restaurants

Aboutmovies,

Since you are also list on WP:WPOR as being a participant in Oregon business related articles I wondered if you had a moment to review this article (and advise on how to have it added to Oregon projects, I'm not sure if I just add the tag or if it needs to be done another way in fact I'm pretty confused all the way around).

thanks in advance (in Salem) Awotter 07:04, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your help it was almost faster than the tag! I did not know about the + symbol thanks for the tip. I also added another Wiki Project tag as you advised. Will work on making the language more NPOV. I grew up an Army brat and first visited Mo's when my folks were in grad school at the U of O almost the same time when Mo's West opened at Otter Rock, they remain my favorite place to visit, so when I came across the info about Niemi researching the Rogue article I wanted to do a good article on them. Formatting Keeley Dorsey: Second Nomination

What is your and Katr's interest in this article? Please explain. The first nomination was close and too close to the death event. It stands to reason the article would not survive a second nomination, because Wikipedia is not a memorial and this article is not sufficiently sourced.

So, why not help with the formatting, if you have the best interests of fairness here?Ryoung122 07:48, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

As they say, you attract more flies with sugar than vinegar. Start behaving properly and people will be less likely to return the attacks. Not to mention the AFD will fail, you really need to read WP:BIO. Notability is not that the person scored 1 touchdown, it is they are worthy of note, and that is shown by substantial coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the source. The death there made national news, thus there will be plenty of sources to back up the notability claim. Same thing with your now desire to delete the Wood article, there are multiple, reliable sources that are independent of the subject, and more can be added if need be (what is it three newspapers and a book?). You really need to seperate the real world from Wikipedia when it comes to what notability is defined as. Wikipedia has a different standard.
As to fairness, will you appologize and retract incorrect accusations that you have made against several editors? When you do that, then, and only then can you talk about the "interests of fairness" in regards to anything related to you on Wikipedia. Aboutmovies 08:01, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Comment: You misspelled 'apologize.' And I disagree with your assertion that a second AFD would fail. First off, Wikipedia is WP:NOT#MEMORIAL. Second, the subject is not notable 'aside from coverage of his death' which is, by definition, discountable.
In regards to Mary Ramsey Wood, it could easily be argued that the subject is a LOCALFAME person and doesn't meet the criteria for notability.
In regards to apologies, I'm still waiting for one from you regarding the Mary Ramsey Wood case, where I turned out to be correct. I also find it a 'personal vendetta' for you to chime in on my own AFD, which, though it appears to be going down this 'election cycle', I'm still only 33 and circumstances may change.
In the Keeley Dorsey dispute, I did not ask you to help; there are plenty of other editors out there. However, you chose, once again, to oppose a move I made. Not surprising.
In regards to Mary Ramsey Wood:
Look, ok, the woman was 97 or 98, her only 'claim to fame' turned out not to be true. Long-forgotten and in only local newspapers or regional books, there is a legitimate reason to believe that the article might not survive an AFD. Ryoung122 09:16, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Robert: It's not "your" article, it's Wikipedia's article about you. If you can keep that in mind, I think that will help matters considerably. Regarding your threat- if you truly think the Wood article shouldn't be here, and you're not just trying to make a point, just nominate it, make your case, see where the chips fall. Nobody's stopping you. -Pete 16:53, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
RY, you didn't ask for help? Really? So what exactly is "So, why not help with the formatting" then? It has the word help in it, and its on my talk page. As to Dorsey, the coverage is not a memorial, it is about what the media believed to be a worthy topic for coverage. Again, Wikipedia does not equal the real world. If a topic is covered by reliable sources, at a certain depth, then they are notable for Wikipedia purposes and Dorsey passes that test. But, feel free to nominate it again, along with the Wood. But again, you still don't get what every editor that was involved with the Wood article gets except you (hint, hint, you might want to think about that) is that it was not how old she was (for the umpteenth time I don't care how old she was), but the method in which the information you wanted to add was presented in the article. Again as I believe a lot of other editors have told you, we have a lot of guidelines and rules for editing on Wikipedia, and you refuse to abide by them. As Pete said, feel free to list it for AFD, but I caution you, it is simply a waste of time the article meets WP:BIO. It doesn't matter if she was or was not 120, the fact is reliable sources covered her, thus notable. In Wikipedia notability does not equal fame, which it actually says that under WP:NOTE. And you seem to confuse the two. And as to local newspapers, and local books please point me to where in WP:RS it says that? Oh, wait it doesn't. Please read what Wikipedia has to offer in guidelines and rules, we do not simply go off of your opinion on matters such as these, we use the already developed by consensus guidelines and rules and policies. Lastly, as to the autobio on you, that's right you could at some point be notable, I never said you couldn't, in fact read through the first AFD and I said "autobiography does not meet WP:BIO. Could it? Maybe, but as it is now, it does not." and also "OK, out of all of those sources added above, only the one that is a re-print from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution qualifies as significant coverage. It is actually about Robert Young. But I don't think one is enough. Do you have more like that? Had it been an entire biography in book form, that would be enough, but not one article in the local/regional paper." So, yes if you get more coverage in reliable sources, then yes you will be notable by Wikipedia standards. It appears you are well known in your field, but that is not notable for Wikipedia. Again, real world, Wikipedia, two different things. Call your friends at all the newspapers who have used you as a source and have them write an article on you. Really, is it that difficult to call them and have them interview you and write a piece on you? According to you, you are world famous, so one would think they would be beating down your door to write an article on you. Once that happens I'm sure other editors would be willing write a biography on you. I would even do it, granted again you make amends where necessary as pointed out by myself and others. But until you begin editing properly, I and many editors (i.e. see all the admins at the ANI) will continually push you to edit/contribute properly. If you take that as harassment, so be it, since nobody can seem to get you to comprehend the issues. Aboutmovies (talk)

Yes, mid sounds about right. National newsmaker, first bioterror attack in US, but no one died and no long term impact (other than no more Rajneeshees). Aboutmovies (talk) 01:42, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Cool, thanks for looking. Do you think the US attorney they were plotting against needs an article? Katr67 (talk) 02:45, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
As an US attorney I don't think he would make one of the automatic inclusion criteria, so there would have to be enough news coverage about him (you know, unlike a certain old person tracker) which might be available with Time and the NYT all available online now. I'll be busy finishing collateral James Alger Fee stuff this week (the SCOTUS case, courthouse, expand the curfew violator). But after finals I might look into it. Sanity Check

OK, so I swear I haven't been hitting the brownies, but I also swear some of the Oregon history templates sported the color combo of History Sign Brown and Oregon Template Periwinkle. But not anymore?! I was going to suggest that those colors clashed a bit, but now I can't figure out which one(s) they were. In other news, I'll try to finish up Hillsboro, Oregon today before anybody can criticize it for any of the little fiddly stuff. Katr67 (talk) 20:17, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

I re-did the templates a month or so ago to make them collapsable, so maybe the color clash disappeared. I don't recall any periwinkle (but I'm a guy so I'm not really sure what color that really is; we know black, blue, white, gray, purple, green, yellow, brown, orange, and sometimes burgandy). Thanks for looking over H-town. I think its GA class, but every little bit helps. Aboutmovies (talk) 20:38, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
I didn't know what Periwinkle (color) was either. "Lavender" seems more precise to me. —EncMstr 20:55, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

I figured it out, kind of. This Template:Or hist navigation is brown on top in Explorer and periwinkle in Firefox. So is this some weirdness of my settings, because I can't figure out anything from the code? Katr67 (talk) 14:59, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

OK, but it didn't USETA look like that. I just noticed this a day or two ago. It shows up perry, er, light blue in both Safari and FireFox 2 on my Mac, but all the headers used to be brown. I looked at the code, and I don't get why the headers aren't all brown…I'd fix it if I knew how. -Pete (talk) 16:42, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
I've noticed it for longer than that, but I figured that for some reason AM had wanted the top bar to match the {{Oregon}} template. Might it have something to do with our monobook settings? Katr67 (talk) 17:45, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Brown is what I wanted, and that's how it shows up for me in IE. I have the same problem with FireFox. I tried a few things, but nothing worked. I guess I'll try to find a template wikiproject and see if they can take a look and figure it out. Aboutmovies (talk) 20:09, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Interestingly...

I see we share a birthday. Just dropping by to send a note/question regarding the ongoing improvement of my first Wikipedia article. Are internet references the only references allowed on Wikipedia? The subject of my article has had plenty of publicity in the past, but most of it was in print, and I'm having trouble locating the 'big-ticket' references considered ideal with the standard search engines. As to the specific notability of a contributing party in award winning media, I would assert that music, (and sound) though not credited with top billing, is a crucial part of the entertainment and advertising industries, and worthy of notation. To overuse an example: without the music of John Williams, Jaws, Star Wars, ET and Raiders of the Lost Ark would not have been what they were. People in circles of production are most aware of the importance that musical composition and sound play in the success of a project. Since notability is subjective, and the importance of relevant references is limited to the media consumption of those making the determination, I would think that more time would be needed to allow those with access to that media to contribute to the article. A couple of weeks seems insufficient to build an article from a collective of industry insiders, such as those the subject would serve. Thank you for the interaction. I am encouraged to have well intentioned and more experienced Wikipedians helping me shape this article. Studiomanager (talk) 23:07, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Spiffier triple crown, new awards available

The standard triple crown.

Hi, I've been sprucing up the triple crown awards. Here's the new version of the standard triple crown you've already earned. Feel free to replace your old one with this if you like the new version better. I've also introduced two new triple crown awards for editors who've done a lot of triple crown work: the Napoleonic and Alexander the Great edition awards. If you're active in a WikiProject, check out the new offer for custom WikiProject triple crowns. I'll make those upon request if five or more editors qualify. See User:Durova/Triple crown winner's circle for more information. Thanks for your hard work, and cheers! DurovaCharge! 22:07, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

A Beavercat is simply a beaver with a cat tail. It cuddles up with you and enjoys having its butt scratched for a while, but will then (when it gets bored) turn and bite you. But since it has big beaver teeth it will bite your hand clean off. Plus instead of scratching the hell out of your furniture, it chops it all down and builds a lodge in your bathtub. Don't ask me how I got involved in this article, but you could take a look and maybe weigh in on the talk page? I know hardcore BLPers feel justified removing anything that is unsourced, but I feel that if the info is uncontroversial, it's not the end of the world if the article is tagged for refs. The current version has returned the article to a particular POV--see discussion on talk page. Originally the article was more balanced and properly wikified (if unsourced), but it was sanitized at some point and now it appears to have swung the other way. I never heard of the guy until some related Guam guy with Oregon connections showed up on the watchlist and I looked at the users contribs. Perhaps he is not exactly a great role model but it seems like the guy's bio should include more than the scandal. Only if you have time, but I know you follow the BIO stuff more than I do. It shouldn't be too hard to dig up the refs, I'll see if I can get to it one of the days; don't hold your breath, but I doubt the folks who want to remove the pro-to-neutral stuff will do it either. Clark/Clarke?

How did Harvey really spell his name? I see one Findagrave listing (of two--I sure wish Findagrave was editable like a wiki) is with an "E" at the end and apparently the elementary school is too? What gives? Katr67 (talk) 23:34, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

All the references I used had it as Clark, including Pacific and the city of FG (citation includes a scan of a land claim map with it minus the e). So my guess is minus the e. Bellotti vs. Riley

Personally, I don't think either of them really belong (or Phil Knight either, for that matter), but I do think if one is listed we should also list the other. Are they really that important to the modern history of the state of Oregon though? I don't see how they should be listed as one of the 23 most significant people to the modern history of Oregon. How are people chosen for the template? Seems like subjective choices could present a NPOV issue. Was there ever a discussion on what people to name? VegaDark (talk) 20:15, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

"Lovejoy Street and Lovejoy Fountain Park in downtown Portland are named in his honor, while the character Reverend Timothy Lovejoy in The Simpsons is named after this street."

This sentence is uncited and WP:OR in the original article, so as it stands it is unsourced in the blurb as well, and should be removed until proper sourcing is provided for this. However, this will then make the blurb during the meantime way too short in proportion to the other Bio blurbs. Cirt (talk) 07:08, 15 January 2008 (UTC).

Selected quotes

Thanks for the additions, but there are some minor problems with all of the new ones:

  1. Portal:Oregon/Selected quote/12 - Missing a free-use image - all of the other quotes have one.
  2. Portal:Oregon/Selected quote/13 - IMDB is a dubious source for a quote, best to use a better source.
  3. Portal:Oregon/Selected quote/14 - Same here, best to find a better source than a website like SongLyrics.com.
  • Cirt (talk) 19:56, 16 January 2008 (UTC).
    • Done, sources changed to the WikiMedia subpages they were taken from. Image is a should, and there are no free images available for Glanville or the football team. Though there are pictures of the PGE Park where they play their home games if you would like. Aboutmovies (talk) 20:09, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
      • That image would be fine. We cannot, however, use other Wikimedia projects as a source, doesn't nearly satisfy WP:RS/WP:V. Try a book or newspaper or something like that? Also, what's up with our discussion thread being in bold ? Cirt (talk) 20:11, 16 January 2008 (UTC).
  • Made the sourcing changes myself, I'll let you add the relevant image, which would be a nice addition. Sorry if it seems I'm being a bit stringent with the requirements as far as sourcing and such - but the more strict we are now - the easier a time we will have getting the portal through WP:PPREV and WP:FPORTC, and on to WP:FPORT. And if we keep those strict standards, it will be easier for the portal to endure the test of time. Cirt (talk) 20:17, 16 January 2008 (UTC).
  • Thanks for adding the image. With the bold, I was wondering the same thing (I may have fixed it). As to sourcing, step back a moment and think about that. First, the instructions for the portal component says to list the subpage from where the quote came from, not an outside source. Second, if so we go with the normal RS/V requirements for the Portal, everything in the portal needs to have the sources (i.e. all the featured and biography articles). Portals are not set up that way, which is why all references are stripped from the blurps. I know Wikipedia:Portal says the normal rules apply, but I think common sense would dictate that is more that the sources within Wikipedia used need to have the info abide by those rules before including the information/article in the portal. Otherwise everything but the quotes at this point need to go, right? Kind of like the WikiNews component where the source is not there until you click through.
  • But thank you for pushing us along to get this to FP class, we've only been slowing moving forward before. I'm all for making it easier to pass through. Aboutmovies (talk) 20:31, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
  • You raise good points. (Don't know why the bolding is still here, must have something to do w/ your DYK notice from above.) However, these do apply to the "Selected article" sections - if sourced in their articles, then a blurb is okay, because it's used in this fashion at WP:TFA. But with smaller little quotes like WP:DYK, where we can show it once appeared on the Main Page, and quotes, where sourcing is relatively easy to find, then why not? It just strengthens the position of those pages/quotes, etc., down the line. Cirt (talk) 20:41, 16 January 2008 (UTC).
  • OK, it sounds like you agree then, sourcing it by referencing the article it came from is OK if the source article conforms with RS/V/A etc.? That's what my point above is, not that no sourcing is required. Aboutmovies (talk) 20:47, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Re: Bishop Scott Academy

Thanks for alerting me to those problems with my edits. Sorry if I caused you problems. Kakofonous (talk) 01:22, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for doing some of the sourcing. FYI, I added the numbers of the Wikipedia:Recent additions, up through Portal:Oregon/DYK/20, so far. Cirt (talk) 07:39, 18 January 2008 (UTC).

  • Personally, I always go for some feedback from some experienced portal people at WP:PPREV before going straight to WP:FPORTC. But as for what else we can do before putting it up for a portal peer review, the only other thing I can think of that would be nice would be to get up to a total of (20) quotes at Portal:Oregon/Selected quote, and have them all have free-use images and sources for the quotes on the subpages. Cirt (talk) 09:15, 19 January 2008 (UTC).
  • I noticed there is a free-use image for Barbara Roberts, former governor of Oregon. Any chance we can get a good sourced quote from her about Oregon from some speech somewhere? Cirt (talk) 09:19, 19 January 2008 (UTC).
  •  Done - expanded quotes to 20. Also found a great source for more quotes if accompanying free-use images already exist on Wikipedia, and noted the source on the subpage's talkpage, for future reference. But for now, 20 should be fine. Cirt (talk) 10:01, 19 January 2008 (UTC).
    • As a side note, I don't want to clog the folks who review portals at WP:PPREV - as I already put up Portal:Internet recently and it's still up there, no comments yet. Feel like giving me some feedback on it at its portal peer review page? I figure I'll let that run until I get some good feedback or for one week - whichever is shorter, and then put up Portal:Oregon for review. Cirt (talk) 10:03, 19 January 2008 (UTC).

Take a look at the coordinates, this is in the middle of a new housing development at the old Oregon Roses facility which is likely where the airstrip was located. My dad use to work there back in the 1960s and talked about them using planes for spraying. So in all likelihood this no longer exists as of about 2004 when Arbor Custom Homes tore down the nursery and started building houses. Aboutmovies (talk) 08:04, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Looks like you are right, (I've never driven by the site myself) I found some minutes from the City Council meeting rezoning the land in 2002. Good catch and thanks for the input! If you dad has any photos of the place it would be cool to upload and post it on the article! :-) I'll move it to indicate that it's closed. --Trashbag (talk) 16:17, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
  1. Portal:Oregon/Selected quote/21
  2. Portal:Oregon/Selected quote/22
  3. Portal:Oregon/Selected quote/23

I was more going for quotes about Oregon with the previous ones, but I don't really see the relevance of these new ones, perhaps you could explain? Cirt (talk) 01:15, 20 January 2008 (UTC).

OK, first, with much of the portal work, great job. However, please be wary of WP:OWN. As to these quotes: Greg Oden was the #1 draft pick of the Portland Trailblazers (Oregon's only major team), and the injury was not only huge headlines in the US sports media, but dominated the news here (in Oregon) for at least a week and the newspeople here (Oregon) still mention it at least once a week. Phil Knight is an Oregonian, co-founded Nike (the only Fortune 500 company left in the state of Oregon), and gives a crap load of money to the UofO (part of the Oregon University System), and by the way signed Woods while in Oregon after Woods won the US Amateur at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club located in Oregon, where Nike is headquartered (there is also a Tiger Woods Center building at the Nike Campus in Oregon). Art is also an Oregonian, and Everclear is a Portland band the The Oregonain has termed along the lines of the best rock band ever out of Portland, and some of the lyrics in the songs reference Portland (I wanna buy you that big house way up in the West Hills), and in 2004 Art was a delegate from Oregon to the DNC. So hopefully that is enough relevance. Aboutmovies (talk) 01:37, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
That is certainly enough relevance, but the lay reader of the portal will not understand the relevance just from reading the quote, but if you feel it's appropriate to include them, okay. As to your bringing up WP:OWN - WP:OWN would be if I just reverted you and removed those quotes outright, or reverted any and all activity done by anyone else on the portal. I have not done anything like that. Quite the contrary - I have frequently sought out both your opinion here on your talk page, and the opinion of others on the talk page of the portal itself. So that is most certainly not WP:OWN. Cirt (talk) 01:45, 20 January 2008 (UTC).
I'm sorry, but when you question other's inclusion of items, and tend to set the rules without discussing, that is OWN, and reverting edits based on those criteria certainly is WP:OWN. Again, we appreciate your enthusiasm for the portal. Just keep in mind the cooperative nature we have had on previous work to the portal. When you say things there like this on the portal talk page: "Thanks for this input, however, it's already there..." it comes across as, that's great I don't value the other contributor's opinions, which comes across as ownership. Aboutmovies (talk) 01:56, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  1. The "Thanks for this input, however, it's already there," was simply the way I was responding to the user's comment. There was no "ownership" meant in that statement, perhaps you are interpreting too much into what you feel the tone was. As it is, the News section has since been updated from Wikinews with another relevant Oregon event from January. Cirt (talk) 02:05, 20 January 2008 (UTC).
  2. reverting edits done here, that you highlighted, was simply because the quote was unsourced, as explained above. If we have to abide by WP:RS/WP:V/WP:OR in main article space, surely we have to abide by it in portal space. This is not a "rule I made up". And I have not been setting rules without discussing - why do you think I recently proposed the idea of tightening the criteria of Selected articles and Selected biographies on the talk page to WP:GA and WP:FA only, when I could have instead simply been WP:BOLD and changed the criteria myself, and removed the articles other editors had previously added. I did not do that. I posted to the talk page, asked for feedback, and when I got feedback that others (you) wanted to also keep the "B" rated articles, I did not contest that comment. That is not WP:OWN. It is the opposite. It is seeking out feedback on the portal talk page and user's talk pages. Why do you think I have been doing that, multiple times? Cirt (talk) 02:05, 20 January 2008 (UTC).
  • Summation: Look, my point is, if I really wanted to WP:OWN the portal, I would not have sought out the degree of feedback from you and others on the portal talk page in the manner I already have. I apologize if you feel that some of my comments to you felt that way, but truly I am trying to get feedback from people who have historically been more active on the portal. And from my experience with getting other portals to featured status, most of the changes I've made so far and the "rules" you refer to, are really run of the mill stuff that portal reviewers like to see to get something to Featured Portal Status. Aboutmovies (talk · contribs), I hope that you and I can continue to work together amiably on this. I would appreciate it that if I ask for your opinion on something on a talk page, that you not think of that as WP:OWN, unless I revert you on something. Cirt (talk) 02:17, 20 January 2008 (UTC).
    • I apologize for reverting you here, I should have just asked about the sourcing, and left the quote max as is while we figured it out - I should have assumed good faith about the quotes themselves, left the quote max as you had it, and then just adjusted the sourcing on the quote subpages in the meantime. I'm sorry about that, and I'll do my best to discuss these things with you first in the future. Cirt (talk) 02:34, 20 January 2008 (UTC).
      • Or better yet, take it to the portal talk page. That's part of the reason why it comes across as ownership. When you go to a particular user's talk page and start questioning them about their edits, that comes across as ownership, not to mention other people involved may not be watching that talk page. Like I said, I and the other editors here at WPOR really appreciate your efforts, but we tend to know Oregon better than outsiders, such as the bit about the federal courthouse and the assassination plot. We can help you with things like that, and by letting you know what Oregon is about, thus what should be covered. I also hope we can continue to work on this, it has expanded quite a bit, so I'll drop the ownership issue.
      • On a side note, the only reason the Wikinews had a newer story is because I went and wrote the story so things could be a bit more current. Hopefully others will do the same every-so-often or I would have to agree that it shouldn't be there if stories are too infrequent. Aboutmovies (talk) 08:04, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
        • Well, I hope you can accept my apology and accept that I am sorry for reverting you. As you suggest, from now on I will address these sorts of things at the portal talk page. As for Wikinews, I have no idea if more Oregon-related stories will crop up over there, but time will tell. Certainly if WP:ORE folks wanted to write an article on Wikinews from time to time, I'm sure the Wikinewsies people would really appreciate it. Again, I'm sorry about all this, I hope you and I can get back to some good footing and work well together. Cirt (talk) 08:11, 20 January 2008 (UTC).

Picture suggestion

Great job on getting the Portal lookin' featurable. For Portal:Oregon/DYK/10, how about using a picture of the Crumpacker house instead of SF Bay (a little more Oregony...)? --Esprqii (talk) 19:31, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

That's why you put the pictures in the article, otherwise I can't find them and have to use obscure stuff from that evil place south of the border. ;) BTW, swapped out. Aboutmovies (talk) 19:53, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I forgot to put it in the main article when I added the house article. Thanks, lookin' cool! --Esprqii (talk) 20:18, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
What do you think about Image:Silcox vista P1857.jpeg? The department of non-tourism would approve! —EncMstr 20:04, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Its a nice picture, but for use where? I don't recall a DYK related to the hut/Timberline. Aboutmovies (talk) 20:14, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I thought it was for general Portal picture suggestions. Serves me right for not tracing the conversation back to its start. —EncMstr 20:36, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
OK, now that makes sense. I listed on the "suggestion" list. Aboutmovies (talk) 20:55, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Ocian

Quick question, Quote 36 - Is that a typo? Cirt (talk) 07:10, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

On Clark's part yes, not on mine. He nott two good spellr. Aboutmovies (talk) 07:11, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
If you want to, you could put [sic] after the word. Cirt (talk) 07:27, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Is "this" supposed to be lowercase "t", second sentence of quote 37? Lemme know if it's okay for me to be pointing these things out to you as I notice them - I'll let you make the changes if need be. Cirt (talk) 07:29, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  • The quote is correct, I left a hidden comment about the grammar/spelling in case someone down the line tries to correct it. I added the sic along with a coin that better represents the quote on Clark's bit. Asking me here is fine. Aboutmovies (talk) 07:38, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Portal peer review

Portal:Oregon is undergoing a portal peer review, you can find the link to it listed at the bottom of the portal talk page, or at WP:PPREV. RichardF (talk · contribs), a user experienced at getting lots of portals to featured portal status, has made some good points. Zaui (talk · contribs) brought up an interesting idea carried over from some other states' portals - of perhaps splitting off some of the articles from the "Selected articles" section, and creating a new Selected attractions section. What do you think? You could also alternatively comment about it at the portal peer review page instead. Cirt (talk) 06:14, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Update

The portal peer review has been relatively stagnant lately, but I'm not going to archive it until it goes up for featured portal discussion. Currently, I have a portal up for discussion now, Portal:Comedy. Whenever that finishes, I'd be ready to put up Portal:Oregon as a featured portal candidate. Could you look over the peer review once more and see if there is anything left to address and/or that you'd like to add before that? Cirt (talk) 07:42, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Sure, but it will be a few days. Aboutmovies (talk) 11:26, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Okay. It'll probably be a few days before Portal:Comedy closes at WP:FPORTC anywayz. Cirt (talk) 11:39, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Yip, in the process of nom'ing it now... Cirt (talk) 16:21, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Done -- It's up at WP:FPORTC, now just cross your fingers and wait! P.S. Thank you so much for all of your help! Cirt (talk) 16:27, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Merkley/Novick

Thanks for your COI note, I was just going to do the same. I tried to fix that section, but I'm sure it will get jumbled up again. --Esprqii (talk) 19:06, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

No problem, I hate those POV pushers. I'd be great if it was a rule that if your campaign edits on another candidate's page then your article gets deleted. It would take like a week for all the campaigns to violate that rule and lead to all candidate pages being deleted, and then no more POV problems! But that's just a pipe dream. Aboutmovies (talk) 19:13, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Much of this is likely my fault. I've had some contact with both campaign -- Frohnmayer's too, for that matter. All are aware of WP:COI, and attempting to comply. (That doesn't mean every single intern or volunteer will comply to the letter.) Anyway, a notice like this is probably a good thing, and I believe that any of these campaigns will gladly adjust their editing if given clear instructions. -Pete (talk) 19:21, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Question

I know it wasn't my personal property, but why were you editing my user page anyway? Little Mountain 5 (talk) 20:02, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

I saw your edit too and was going to say something similar to AM. Personally I wasn't editing your userpage, but saw the edit because I have your page watchlisted since I posted the welcome message on your talk page. Katr67 (talk) 20:06, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for enlightening me. Little Mountain 5 (talk) 21:52, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
