Unreliable citations on the SRT page

[edit]

First off, I expected one of the Admins to reply - not some lowlife SRT-boot-licker.

Secondly, TOI like ALL other newspapers has a blog section for their online site, that allows for such posting. The name of the AUTHOR of the 'article' or whatever that is has been conveniently omitted. I shall FOR SURE bring it to the notice of the people who will take care of it.

I am not a fool, nor are millions of the others, who saw the black lie that was uttered over and over on this very site, on this very page about SRT being ranked the greatest ever ODI batsman, when Wisden had ranked Viv Richards consistently as the greatest ever. A man with a SUPERIOR average and a SUPERIOR strike-rate in the greatest era of fastest bowling, wearing not even a helmet, in the absence of a score of rules protecting the batsmen and making their tasks easier, along with the fact that pitches were uncovered, faster and bouncier in the 70s and 80s than in the 90s or this decade. And that when despite playing in much tougher conditions and against much faster, better, more intimidatory bowlers (Lillee, Thommo, Imran, Hadlee, Willis, Botham, Kapil, Pascoe, Gilmour, Nawaz etc etc etc) he averaged 48 with a sr of 90+ (54 and 94 for most of his prime till around end-1986) and a avg that was 50 in Aus against Aus (SRT avg 28 in Aus and 26 in SA). It took quite an effort from a number of people to remove that lie from this page and others like Viv Richards, Wisden 100 etc. In Tests too, Viv averaged 62 till then end of 1982 which is considered to be the end of his peak with a average of over 60 vs Aus in Aus.

What I wrote was merely fact except for my opinion about hor SRT would have fared in the 70s and 80s which I am pretty sure was also almost on the money. You can go to the Richards page to see that the Chappells, Barry Richards, Imran, Crowe, Akram, Srikanth, Shastri, Fairbrother, Pringle etc all rate Viv above SRT. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.194.224.95 (talk) 14:24, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm no expert on copyright, but as I understand it, so long as we accredit it, and only quote small extracts, it's fine. --Dweller (talk) 21:28, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please fill in the blanks

[edit]

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you.

Thank you, and thanks for your help in getting him there. Lara's a long-term idea... in the meantime, I'm really concentrating on the Invincibles team members, with a view to getting the whole topic featured. --Dweller (talk) 10:17, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help?

[edit]

I see you were listed as a participant in the League of Copy-Editors so it seems likely. The thing is the Military history wikiproject urgently needs prose pros to help with our best articles. Milhist covers a broad range of interesting and varied subjects from film to biography, battles to weaponry, and Roman emperors to twentieth-century dictators. In Milhist, A-Class has become the last port of call before FAC and we are looking for people to help identify prose and MoS issues at A-Class A-Class Reviews and help fix them prior to featured article candidacy. We also have a copy-editing section in our Logistics Dept and that can always use experienced copy-editors. For most of our articles, you don't need to be a specialist in the subject matter, just good with words.

If you think you can help, please do! Thanks for your time, --ROGER DAVIES talk 03:42, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much indeed for signing up as a Milhist copy-editor. It's vert much appreciated, --ROGER DAVIES talk 05:46, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Articles Needing Copy Edit

[edit]

Hello former LOCE member :)

This is an invitation for you to join a brand-new WikiProject that aims to improve the articles tagged for copy edit. This is pretty important to Wikipedia because there are now over 4,000 such articles, some of which need quite a bit of help. This is not a clone of the LOCE because we will not deal with requests for copy edits, but will happily make improvements to articles at our own pace. If you're interested, sign up at the project page!

Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:27, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pittsburgh event for Wikipedia's tenth anniversary

[edit]

Hi! Since you have a connection to Pittsburgh, I wanted to invite you to the Wikipedia Tenth Anniversary celebrations we're having in Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 15. During the daytime, we're going to be having a photo contribution drive where anyone can bring in their digital photos or prints and Wikipedians will teach people how to upload them and add them to articles, and maybe introduction to Wikipedia workshops as well. Then in the evening, we'll have fun at the Carson City Saloon. There will be free Wikipedia t-shirts and other goodies, as well. See the Pittsburgh meetup page for more details. I hope to see you there!--ragesoss (talk) 15:47, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop at CMU (Aug 15)

[edit]

Since you are one of the editors in the Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: Carnegie Mellon University, I'd like to invite you to the Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop that will take place at CMU on Aug 15 (this workshop is open to general public, and is a joint imitative of CMU and Pitt). There will be another workshop held at Pitt in the Fall as well. It will cover how to include Wikipedia in one's course (WP:SUP) and also how to become a Wikipedia:Campus Ambassadors. Pennsylvania has currently only one ambassador (myself) and it would be great if we could recruit at least several more. Ambassadors help course instructors, showing them how Wikipedia works, and interact with students. Many current ambassadors come from the body of students, faculty and university staff; it is a fun adventure, and adds to one resume/CV, to boot :) If it sounds interesting, feel free to ask me any questions, or to come to the workshop.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 20:05, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Stories Project

[edit]

Hello,

My name is Victor Grigas, and I'm a storyteller at the Wikimedia foundation. We're telling stories of Wikipedia users, editors, donors, programmers and staff to paint a picture of who uses Wikipedia - for the 2011 fundraiser.

I am in the process of planning a trip to India to gather stories from Indian Wikipedians in face-to-face interviews (possibly on video).

My primary goal is to conduct 15-20 interviews, and hopefully enough of my interviews will make compelling stories that will effectively solicit donations from the public. These stories may also be used for other communication purposes by the foundation.

I found your userpage on a list of prolific Wikipedians and thought I’d reach out to you. Prolific editing is always a good story to tell!

If you are interested in participating, please contact me via my email:

vgrigas@wikimedia.org

Thank you for your time!

Victor

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:58, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
