Two editors seem to be playing down his caste background. Can someone tell me what is going on here? Palwankar Baloo obviously was a great cricketer but his story is all the more remarkable because of the discrimination he suffered. His background and the treatment of him obviously also informs his political activities. To many westerners the history of Indian cricket is dominated by the princes―Ranji,Duleep and the Nawabs of Pataudi in particular. Baloo and his brothers are the other sidee of the story and that story should be told. Things may be different now. I hope they are, but that is no reason not to outline the history. It is as if people tried to tell the story of Jesse Owens without saying he was black or of Florence Nightingale or emeline pankhurst without saying they were women,or trying to tell the story of the Amerivcan Civil War without referring to slavery. Some mention must be made of his caste. Being the first major cricketer from a backward caste is one of the reasons for his importance in Indian cricket history. The older version perhaps overdid it a bit but now I can't see a single mention that he was a dalit, which is unacceptable. Tintin17:37, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
