God Made Me Gay

God Made Me Gay Something I've always fownd useful in the fight against religious bigotry. Bookkeeperoftheoccult (talk) 23:37, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

I've had many discussions about this subject with college friends (I was forced to attend a fundamentalist Baptist college if I wanted help from my family) and I visited St. John's Metropolitan Community Church and other liberal churches in Raleigh a few times. I talked about it with the preachers and they basically said the same thing. Thanks for the link. APK yada yada 00:19, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
You're welcome. I find it sad so many people who actually want to practice their faith are turned away from their religious institutions because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. There are a few other resources too.
The World Congress of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Jews: Keshet Ga’avah The World Congress of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Jews: Keshet Ga’avah consists of around 50 member organizations in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Mexico, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
United Churches of Christ Open and Affirming is the way many in the United Church of Christ (UCC) declare their welcome and inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons into the full life of the church. The message of love and compassion, justice and peace are at the very core of the life and ministry of Jesus.
Al-Fatiha Al-Fatiha Foundation is dedicated to Muslims who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning, those exploring their sexual orientation or gender identity, and their allies, families and friends.
I've always found it important to spread the word, since few people know these organizations exist. Bookkeeperoftheoccult (talk) 02:17, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, I have to add Unitarian Universalism to the list. See Homosexuality and Unitarian Universalism. Aleta Sing 02:23, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
I almost visited the Unitarian church in Raleigh that we discussed. I tried the UCC and spoke to the pastor for 3 hours. He wanted me to help him start some kind of LGBT outreach, but I declined. I remember pulling into the UCC parking lot and noticing all of the cars had Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers. I was in shock. You would understand why if you knew how I was raised. We were taught real Christians didn't vote Democrat, at least not for the really liberal candidates. Ahhh, I was so sheltered growing up. APK yada yada 06:14, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

You may find this site of great value in locating US Govt pictures for places in North Carolina. I used it to find some 30s and 40s pictures for a couple of Mississippi related articles. Since US Govt images are free of copyright, it makes it easy to upload them to Commons. Just type North Carolina in the search box or Raleigh, North Carolina , etc. - ALLSTAR echo 10:19, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Ahh, gracias. So for instance, this pic I just use the "original work of the U.S. govt" line? APK yada yada 10:32, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Gracias. The link isn't working right now. The same thing happened with one of the Orton links, so I used switched it to the cached version. I don't know what's going to on with that nc govt website. APK yada yada 22:07, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
It's ran by North Carolinians? :P - ALLSTAR echo 23:39, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
That's bizarre. It worked for me immediately before I posted the link to your page, and it's working now. Let me know if you can't get it again, and I'll put the text (which is sadly brief) into an email to you so you can at least see what it says. Aleta Sing 02:20, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
The same thing happened with the Orton link. It works on and off. Maybe it was just a system glitch the past day or so? I'm going to write the Russellborough article tonight so I'll see if that link can be used. BTW, look at the bottom of the page here for some sources I found for NC Pride. If you want to add some sources for Equality NC to the page, we can just use that sandbox as a place to store sources for team-up articles. I'm going to write the NC Pride & Equality NC pieces after I finish Russellborough, Brunswick Town, and the Temple of Israel. APK yada yada 02:35, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Who knows what's up? Maybe they need a new server or something. That's cool about the storage box for sources. I'll look for some for NC EQ. Aleta Sing 03:25, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
(reply to ASE) Mmhmm. Well, I found two clips of the Mississippi culture. It's fascinating. :) APK yada yada 23:49, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Can this picture be used for the Russellborough article? I don't know if it would be considered fair use since the building was destroyed in the 1700s and there's no picture of it. APK yada yada 23:53, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

I bet you could use it as fair use if there's not a free source of the image somewhere. Since it's so old though, I wonder if a free copy does exist that could be found. Aleta Sing 02:32, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
I don't know, I'm looking for one though. APK yada yada 02:35, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
OMG, look at today's featured article. Leaving out the scientology aspect, that has to be one of the dumbest movies ever. I guess it shows that if an article is well-written and sourced, anything can make it to the front page. APK yada yada 03:41, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Rollback

Hey, I've just given you rollback because I think you might find it useful, and I don't believe you'd abuse it. Know that rollback is only to be used for blatant vandalism; terrible but good faith edits should be reverted manually. If for some reason you'd prefer not to have rollback ability, just let me know, and I'll disable it. :) Aleta Sing 03:54, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Ah, gracias! I've seen many rollback discussions on various talk page. The lesson I learned from watching people lose rollback status is to not use it for edit warring and like you said good faith edits. This will come in handy for articles such as North Carolina, Cary, North Carolina (it seems it's the new vandal hangout the past few days), and Halo. That last article is on my watchlist when I added Halo (bar) to the list of uses. For some reason it appears to be vandalized on a daily basis. (maybe semi will be in order soon for Halo, just a heads up Aleta) Also, I'm reducing my normal WP editing this week (Mon-Wed) because I don't want to get burnt out. I decided an occassional 2-3 day semi-break (not completely absent from the site, i'll just be checking this page and my watchlist) would be in order so I don't get tired of the site. If any of you guys/gals believe in prayer (and thinks it works), put APK down on the list because he sick (hence this semi-break). Laterz. APK yada yada 04:37, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, it didn't take very long for rollback to come in handy. APK yada yada 05:05, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello again. The Highly Active Users project has gone through a complete revamping per popular demand. We believe this new format will make it easier for new editors to find assistance. However, with the new format, I must again ask you to verify your information on this page. I attempted to translate the data from the old version to the new, but with the extensive changes, I may have made some errors. Thanks again. Useight (talk) 04:11, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

The auto-updating status has a slight lag of anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes. Keep editing and hopefully it will change to online in a few minutes. If it doesn't, let me know and I'll take a closer look at your case. As for the checkmarks, no, they're not just for admins, they're for all editors. Based on what you said on my talk page, you'll probably want to check Vandalism, Noticeboards, and Content. Useight (talk) 04:21, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

This possibly bipolar user who has harassed me in the past has taken upon herself to copy and paste material from my sandboxes. Here is her "reasoning." Aleta, remember the article we were going to write? (Equality NC...sources near the bottom of the page) Look at Equality North Carolina, created after you added the sources to my sandbox. She also created City Market in Raleigh, another article I had listed on the to-do list on my user page. She is free to create articles that were listed on my user page, but copy and pasting material from my sandboxes is fucking pathetic. I started a thread at ANI about this and I expect the Moore Square article to be deleted. I will finish the one in my sandbox today and move it to the mainspace. She only did this because she is continuing her psychotic infatuation with me and because of our history she should know better than to pull some cheap stunt like this. APK yada yada 09:22, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

I left a message on Talk:Moore Square Historic District just in case it's not deleted and will make sure it stays on top of the page as long as I'm an editor for WP. APK yada yada 11:13, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Sadly, the two flickr users have zero NYC pictures. One user's collection is almost entirely of D.C. The other user's collection is of D.C., SF, Chicago, Nawlins, Boston, and Rome. I'll e-mail you the links. APK yada yada 23:40, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Can you give us a spread of all your various WMATA photos that you're considering posting? I'm sure you've got some real winners in there that ought to go up, but I'd like to see the whole body of work. SchuminWeb (Talk) 02:10, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

I notice you're reverting my edits. I assume it's because you took the pictures I'm replacing? The Columbia Heights picture I added is of excellent quality and I reverted your edit. APK yada yada 03:26, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I actually really like the Columbia Heights picture that you swapped in, but I don't think a B/W photo is a particularly great idea when dealing with a non-historic matter on Wikipedia. I'm halfway inclined to go over to Columbia Heights station with my camera after work or something and snap a shot from a similar angle. The Shaw photo legitimately does have issues, because the escalator is distracting there, and it's angled in such a way that most of what you see is ceiling, with most of the station in the bottom half of the photo.
Otherwise, I looked at the photos (not all of them yet, but thank you for listing), and it looks like we can turn up some winners in there. Lot of Red Line photos in there, too. I see the Red Line every day on my Glenmont-to-Dupont-and-back commute. Then I'm also agreed that we need to add something about the Walt Whitman passage to Dupont Circle. SchuminWeb (Talk) 10:58, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
If you don't think the B&W pix are good for the main pic, then they should still be used somehow because some of these pix are too good not to use on the site. It's rare that we can find free-use high quality photos. APK yada yada 11:52, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
There's nothing wrong with black and white pictures, especially if they are better than the color options (which may or may not be the case with this one - I don't know). I don't think color versus b&w should necessarily be the deciding factor, unless the pictures are otherwise of comparable quality. Aleta Sing 22:07, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Rainbow photo, Hawaii

Hi, APK. Are you sure that picture is the Big Island? It looks more like Kaua'i to me, although I could be wrong. Awien (talk) 03:08, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

The picture's caption says "From off the coast of the big island of Hawaii." APK yada yada 03:22, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
So it's not your own picture? I'm not sure that the caption of a picture from somebody's cruise is very authoritative - and in the set, it appears in the middle of his/her Kaua'i pix, too. I know the Big Island VERY well and Kaua'i a little, and the weathering of the rock looks wrong for the former and right for the latter. I suggest reverting to the waterfall pic - what do you think? Awien (talk) 01:02, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I see no reason why the flickr user would say it's the Big Island if it wasn't. If you want to remove it, go ahead. I'm getting use to people removing the pix I've managed to find on flickr. I think this concludes my uploading free-use flickr pix. I uploaded around a hundred or so in the past day, but I don't think I'll be adding anymore to articles. There are several hundred to go, but going back and forth with people that don't like the pictures (or ones that own articles and don't like the fact I'm replacing the pix they took, like the Washington Metro articles) is getting old very quickly. APK yada yada 03:38, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
APK will have this ferocious dog attack editors that remove the pix he's adding.
Because the flickr user made a mistake. However, I have no evidence so am not going to do anything. Also, I was just going to urge you not to get discouraged about adding pictures since WikiFairies like you are in much shorter supply than WikiGnomes like me, when I saw that you got another pat on the back for your activities. So don't give up (especially not on account of my questionig this one). Awien (talk) 17:55, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Yup. Linda Tripp recorded Monica's conversation at the Ritz Carlton bar and federal authorities took her to one of the rooms for questioning. Also, it's where Congressman William J. Jefferson accepted $100,000 in a bribe investigation and was videotaped doing it. You would think he'd realize the hotel is known for federal investigations. APK yada yada 01:50, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

First, read this. The school is a very interesting subject. If it was a Christian organization sponsoring a publically-funded school, the ACLU would be all over that shit. (Imagine a public school sharing a building with a Baptist church and having prayer times.) Thanks to political correctness, this school is continuing its activities. The article could probably use an extra eye if someone wants to watchlist it. Edits like this where "POV" categories were removed is bullshit. Um, if the school is not an example of Muslim education, what is? Common sense seems to be lacking with certain editors. I'm amazed the article I linked to in the first sentence is only used once. That needs to change. APK yada yada 05:29, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your message. That edition you own is one with which I am not familiar, but it is quite striking. My understanding is that the Rubaiyat went through a great many editions---I own 3 or 4, myself, and I am not sure any of them are listed in the article. The one for which you provided images should, it seems to me, be listed, though, and the images would enhance the article. Unfortunately, like yourself, I have no experience with images, or the uploading thereof, and I find Wikipedia's policies on the matter confusing. Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 16:49, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Smile for the camera!

I took advantage of the beautiful weather we're having and took 80 pictures with my new camera. Have a looksie. Twice I was asked why I was taking pictures of certain buildings. I'm not really surprised who they were, the Algerian embassy and the Church of Scientology. I assume an embassy would be considered notable, but does anyone have a second opinion? I don't know if someone would try to say the topic is already covered in an article like Diplomatic missions of Australia (typing in Australia embassy links to that article). I'm surrounded by embassies and I took a few pictures of them today. My favorite one today is the Embassy of Senegal. APK yada yada 01:23, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

No one is answering. I'm discouraged. Anyway, APK walked several miles today and has the blisters to prove it. (Don't wear flip-flops if you plan on walking a long time. I learned the hard way.) I spent 6 hours taking pictures (152 to be exact) and spent 4 hours uploading and editing them on my computer, as well as 3 hours uploading them to Commons. I am worn the fuck out. APK yada yada 06:48, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Yay (for both the new camera and all the pictures)! Aleta Sing 13:15, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Haha, thank you for the compliments! When I said no one replied I meant about the embassies. Would an article about an embassy in Washington, D.C. automatically be considered notable? Aleta, I took several pictures of different churches if you want to work on those with me. (I guess we should finish the Universalist church first, no? <grin>) Some of them are NRHPs like Mt. Zion UMC, Friends Meeting, and United Church. Here is one that's no longer used as a church, but a historic building nonetheless. Here's another historic church not listed on the NRHP. APK yada yada 17:17, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm... my inclination would be to say that an embassy in Washington is likely to be inherently notable, but I'm not really sure. There's probably a relevant wikiproject, but I don't know what it would be. Sure, I'll work on the church articles with you. You're right though that we need to finish what we've started. I've got something else in the works, too. I'm too tired to do much tonight, but I hope to do some tomorrow. Aleta Sing 03:06, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia:WikiProject International relations - project that probably would be interested in any embassy articles (and whose members might have informed opinions on whether or not notability is inherent for embassies). Aleta Sing 03:10, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Gracias. I actually found this list and created 5 stubs last night. Some of the embassies are difficult to find! I found the Embassy of the Dominican Republic by mistake when I walked down the wrong way on 22nd Street. I'm finding most of them by that "method". APK yada yada 03:28, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi, got your message and see that you've added some pics already. Great! Yes, I had worked on it, is now a complete list with stub for every one, and most or perhaps nearly all have NRHP/NHL text/photo references. So the collection of articles is in pretty good shape to support development of the list-article to FL. It would be great if you would work on descriptions, and I will contribute, too. I should say upfront that I prefer, fairly strongly, for the descriptions to be extracts/summaries of the articles, and that they should not include anything not in the article. To keep in sync this way, then sometimes to create a good description of the site, it requires developing the article a bit more. I am just saying this because i have struggled with some other list-articles where new stuff got into the descriptions, and/or the descriptions were developed while the individual NHL articles were still red-links. I trust this should not be a problem with this list, as the articles are at least all started. Cheers, doncram (talk) 02:19, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Sounds good. I'll work on some of the other photos in the next week or so. A few of them are on the other side of the district, so it may take me a little while for those because I rarely leave NW. APK yada yada 02:25, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi dude. I'm not the one deleting it, but I am tagging it for speedy deletion.
