Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, ACForce2020, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Dormskirk

[edit]

Dormskirk Hello I was wondering if it was ok that I'm adding this HQ ---, on the inf bde pages, I haven't seen any of the regional points of commands, so I was putting them there, is that alright?

Apologies - I have only just seen this. Please feel free with adding the extra information but please ensure it is fully referenced (please see my comments below). Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 16:58, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion

[edit]

Are you sure that you want to put up Régiment Bourbonnaise for speedy deletion? Speedy deletion is usually for articles that are listed here: WP:GCSD. If you want you can put up the article back for speedy deletion but I would not advise doing so if the article meets notability and you are just doing so to improve upon it and reinstate it later. Regards, Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 05:39, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest I'm not sure, there are too many small issues which I'm just noticing now.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Régiment de Bourbonnaise, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Siege of Charleroi (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hello Diannaa, I don't know if this means anything, but I found this on their website on privacy policy "Except where otherwise specified, all text added to Project Seven Years War is available for reuse under the terms of the GFDL.".
Diannaa I emailed the comptroller of the kronoskaf website, and I got this email (I can provide an image if needed): "Most of our articles and illustrations are published under the GNU FDL license (http://www.kronoskaf.com/fdl.txt). Basically it means that if you intend to use them for non-commercial purpose (like Wikipedia), you can re-publish or modify them as you wish as long as proper credit is made for each text and each image used."

Headquarters South West (United Kingdom)

[edit]

Hi - Please can you make sure that all the regional orbat information you are adding is properly referenced. In particular please can you add a source to Headquarters South West (United Kingdom). Many thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 16:56, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Will do, though do you need refs for every unit?
Per WP:V, WP:CITE and WP:RS anything you cannot you cannot source should be removed. You have added quite a lot of material to a number of articles on regional formations so please either add the citations or remove the material. Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 21:02, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'll fix that, sorry about that.
No problem. I have removed some material for now: please just make sure that, when you add material in, you also add the source that you got it from at the same time. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 23:14, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I'm adding the references now, thanks for that. I'll also fix the main page over at the units and formations part. Dormskirk if you would like to check it now, so I can get a reference if that's what you need?
Hi - The article Headquarters South West (United Kingdom) is now much better referenced - thanks for that. However I actually think it is just a bit too detailed now: for instance I don't think we need all the sub-units of Headquarters Larkhill Garrison, or of the Land Warfare Centre, or of Headquarters Bovington Garrison or of the Defence College of Technical Training. In my opinion good prose is much better than lengthy orbats: see WP:PROSE. I would also change all the remaining redlinks to blacklinks: the Joint CBRN Medical Facility is just notable enough to justify an article of its own: so, in my view, WP:REDNO applies. I hope that helps. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 00:25, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I think I know what you mean, I'll see what I can do.
Looks good. Many thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 09:35, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I'm kinda new, so haven't quite got everything down to scratch.

Notice

The article Régiment de Dauphiné (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

orphan dab with no Wikipedia ambiguity to disambiguate

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Music??

[edit]

Dormskirk Hello, I was wondering if the music lists and such was ok to add, since I know many of the battalions of the RRS and other regiments have strong musical links. Is this maybe redundant, or ok?

I think the key issues to consider here are notability (or lack of it) and undue weight: military units are primarily fighting forces not music performers but I think a couple of lines on music is would be OK. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 22:04, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So just the Charge, Quick March, Slow March, and General Salute? Those are the 'typical marches'.
Yes, that sounds fine. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 23:28, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In-Line Refs

[edit]

Dormskirk Hello I'm working on a sandbox: User:ACForce2020/sandbox1 and before I trasnfer some of the information over, I have a question. Should I provide the references for those units which aren't on the army website, or are those not needed when a general ref are given?

Hi - The general rule is that a reference need to be "inline" but it does not matter what the source is providing it is "reliable" (see WP:RS) so it does not need to be the army website. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 17:37, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again, if you wouldn't mind checking here: Légion de Conflans in the references, I have the actual title, and noted [in french] added. I'm sorry to ask you, since it seems you focus on British stuff, and not a lot of people do the Royal French era.
Looks good. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 16:45, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Language Barrier

[edit]

Dormskirk Hello again, I have a quick question, as far as foreign reference materiel (in another language), should I put the title in English or the native name? For example, Historie de l'ancienne infanterie Français or History of the Ancient French Infantry.

Hi - It might be helpful to include both (i.e. the English version in brackets). Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 17:54, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Tidworth

[edit]

Hi - I see you have move the article entitled Tidworth Camp to Tidworth Garrison. My understanding is that the military installation at Tidworth is still known as Tidworth Camp, and together with Bulford Camp, they form a Garrison known as "Tidworth and Bulford" Garrison (or in military parlance "Tid N' Bul"). See evidence dated 2018 here. In general articles should not be moved without a discussion and in any case there would be a very large number of incoming links to adjust and this has not been done yet. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:05, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, that's strange, since what I've seen on the British Army website, for instance here: RRF, they show the barracks part of "Tidworth Garrison". They could be mistaken, I'm not 100% sure, but I'll check out the talk pages next time, I honestly didn't even think about that..
Hi - Thanks for that. It may be that the MoD is itself confused on the point and varies the terminology with different announcements. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 14:06, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Normandy Barracks

[edit]

Hallo, You moved the redirect, saying "There are 3 Normandy barracks in England.", but you didn't really solve the problem because you left Normandy Barracks redirecting to Normandy Barracks, Leconfield and then to Defence School of Transport. I've now made a disambiguation page which fixes the problem (though only found two in England, one in Germany - is there another?) PamD 07:01, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry about that, and yes there is Normandy in Leconfield, a Normandy in Aldershot, and a New Normandy in Aldershot.. I'll check out that issue.

Speedy deletion nomination of 337th Military Intelligence Battalion

[edit]

Hello ACForce2020,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged 337th Military Intelligence Battalion for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!
