- Hello Dan, thanks for such a warm welcome! I'm relishing editing Wikipedia; I was overwhelmed by a modicum of everything, so this message helps a lot. I have a query; quoting what you said, "It is almost never okay to copy extensive text out of a book or website and paste it into a Wikipedia article with little or no alteration, though you can clearly and briefly quote copyrighted text in the right circumstances.", am I free to use the materials/findings from those sources, to write them in a distinguished way of mine? Would it still be a debauchery of the copyrighted sources? I initially thought the opposite antecedent to the malpractice, for I wasn't familiar enough with it and still am not. Thanks a bunch! 9was6ik (talk) 14:23, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, you should summarize information from sources in your own words. I sometimes find it helpful to read the source material, then try to summarize it without directly referring to it (of course you can look at it afterwards, but this might help avoid the temptation of using the same or substantially similar phrasing). Hope that helps. DanCherek (talk) 15:21, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
- It indeed helps, Dan. Thanks. I also have another query, how do I make an article/wiki page for a personality? 9was6ik (talk) 16:00, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
- You can read WP:YFA for a detailed guide on how to create your first article. It will take you through the steps to create a draft that can be submitted for review. Important things to keep in mind are that the article's topic should be notable. This generally means that it has already been covered in detail in good references from independent sources. If you have a connection with the subject of your draft, you will need to provide a required disclosure – see the conflict of interest guideline for more information about that. AfC notification: Draft:Gyan Singh has a new comment
[edit]- Done! I've disambiguated the title page of the draft. Could I know how close it is for it being published? Thanks! 9was6ik (talk) 22:59, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
Gyan Singh (Musician) moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Gyan Singh (Musician), is not suitable as written to remain published. It appears there is a WP:UPE or WP:COI conflict. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, and have addressed the UPE/COI issue, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. As per WP policy, please do not move into mainspace yourself. Onel5969 TT me 11:57, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
- I know the individual of the article, and I'm unpaid. How do I address the UPE/COI while submitting the draft? 9was6ik (talk) 01:51, 29 December 2022 (UTC)
WP:COI statement for Draft 'Gyan Singh (Musician)
[edit]I clarify the WP:COI with my draft by saying I have a personal relationship with the individual and I am unpaid. If this is not appropriate enough to clarify, kindly tell me how to do so. 9was6ik (talk) 22:31, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
