Circle Packing
[edit]It has been a while since I edited Wikipedia and I am dealing with talk page messages in reverse chronological order. Well done on solving the problem on circle packing. I think though it really should be sourced before being added back to the article. But very interesting to see your solution! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Captainj (talk • contribs) 23:21, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification
[edit]Hi. When you recently edited Abricta curvicosta, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Opercula (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

[edit]Good news! You now have access to 80 million articles in 6500 publications through HighBeam Research. Here's what you need to know:
- Your account activation code has been emailed to your Wikipedia email address.
- Only 407 of 444 codes were successfully delivered; most failed because email was simply not set up (You can set it in Special:Preferences).
- If you did not receive a code but were on the approved list, add your name to this section and we'll try again.
- The 1-year, free period begins when you enter the code.
- To activate your account: 1) Go to http://www.highbeam.com/prof1; 2) You’ll see the first page of a two-page registration. 3) Put in an email address and set up a password. (Use a different email address if you signed up for a free trial previously); 4) Click “Continue” to reach the second page of registration; 5) Input your basic information; 6) Input the activation code; 7) Click “Finish”. Note that the activation codes are one-time use only and are case-sensitive.

DYK for Joshua Jefferis
[edit]On 30 June 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Joshua Jefferis, which you created or substantially expanded. 2012 Australian Summer Paralympians article help request
[edit]Hey. In honour of Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, I'm trying to get articles created about members of the team who don't have articles yet. This is a fairly big job and I could use a bit of assistance. If you have time, can you add information and sources to articles, add pictures to articles (Flickr? Commons?), fix prose on articles where sources have been included now (mostly men's athletics) and otherwise help prep them for DYK? I'd be happy to give you credit at DYK for all the articles you help improve. Thanks in advance. --LauraHale (talk) 05:52, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
Annie Wyatt
[edit]Hi 99of9,
Is Annie Forsyth Wyatt good enough for DYK now? If she is, could you nominate her under both our names? She might get more of the recognition she deserves. :) Also, I don't think it is stub class any more. Whiteghost.ink (talk) 04:17, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
- Laura might nominate it for us - I have suggested this hook to her: "Did you Know that Annie Wyatt, the driving force behind Australia's National Trust was also a prison visitor to some of Sydney's most notorious women criminals?" Whiteghost.ink (talk) 09:22, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the repair work on the Annie Wyatt article. I have removed one of the fluffy sentences and added another reference to DoS for the last paragraph where the 'A' list is mentioned. Hope that's right. In regard to sources cited in the DoS article, I just learned that Wittylama was advised as part of the Good Article review for Florence Violet McKenzie that while it's fine to import DoS's citations, unless you have checked them yourself, the right approach is to include "cited in Dictionary of Sydney". So I have added this tag to the relevant refs in this article. Whiteghost.ink (talk) 03:51, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

"The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate eventually became the Daily Liberal"
[edit]Hi - I worked on this a bit yesterday and I don't think this assertion is supported by the references..... certainly something in the power of SLNSW librarians to check. Memorary is that the Daily Liberal started as The Advocate. At this stage I'm not sure. Regards, Ariconte (talk) 19:40, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
- This claims:
- Later Title: Daily liberal and Macquarie advocate (Online), 2200-8195
- Which seems to be still in operation So I think it's pretty certain to be true. I'll try to formalize it with citations over the weekend, but if you find something, go for it. --99of9 (talk) 21:53, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
- Here is some data from http://www.mrl.nsw.gov.au/LocalHeritage/dubbo-timeline Not sure how reliable it is.
- 1874 “The Dubbo Liberal” commenced print as “The Advertiser” in the Furney building.
- 1884 "The Liberal” was produced in a shed, which had been part of the Commercial Stores.
- 1888 The Liberal” transferred it business to the corner of Macquarie and Wingewarra Sts. Later it was transferred to Church Street into a building once used as Blackett’s Mart.
- 1905 Dubbo Advertiser changed name to Dubbo Liberal.
- 1958 'Dubbo Liberal’ newspaper changed name to ‘Daily Liberal’.
- 1979 Daily Liberal moved office to Wheelers Lane.
- Trove states "The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate (NSW : 1892 - 1927)" which implies the paper started in 1892. The first issue in the digital series is 3 Jan 1894.
- Not sure how to interpret all of that. Regards, Ariconte (talk) 22:23, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
- Ok, that's interesting, it's always fun when the sources disagree! I'll try to figure it out on the weekend. --99of9 (talk) 08:59, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

- No problem! Saw the dish last time in Canberra and was told what it was, so I can understand how you got it confused (Google isn't much help unless you tell it to search for solar energy, but who would've though it was a solar dish without being told? IMO not many people). Bidgee (talk) 11:15, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
templates...
[edit]As an explanation for this, the rationale is that WP:FAC is a huge page which can take an age to load, hence any templates make it even longer....Casliber (talk · contribs) 02:05, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
- How much longer though? Say I told you that 5000 uses of two such templates (e.g. tick and cross) would add less than 1% to the page load time? Maybe then nobody would care. I don't know the number, but a back of the envelope estimate suggests the total download would be insignificantly altered by also downloading two small images. I guess that the guideline writer was just overcautious without knowing the actual effect. But I'd be happily proved wrong if someone can show me numbers. --99of9 (talk) 13:10, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
- (belatedly) I dunno. I've never followed the arguments closely, but some folks feel strongly that significant numbers of templates seem to slow the page down....Casliber (talk · contribs) 20:31, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
Sportspeople from Sydney
[edit]Take a look at the page[1]]. At the moment there are over 400 entries in it. Men and women. If you're going to do gender, this category would obviously be empty. Except the person(Curiously enough the editor has commented at the deletion discussions.) who created sportsmen and sportswomen from Sydney over a year ago stopped doing the task of sorting by gender. Categorizing by sportspeople's location is a tedious job, and I've done it[2]. Want to spend 4-5 hours working on the rest of those Sydney sportspeople? Could take even longer but I'm calculating two a minute and that comes up to 235-240 minutes and 240 is exactly four hours. Not to mention go through People from Sydney(Plus racing drivers from Australia, jockeys from Australia, Kickboxers etc etc) to check for stragglers. It is easy to defend the category, maintaining isn't so easy....William 14:20, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

IPBE flag removed
[edit]Hello, 99of9. Just so you know, I have removed your IP Block Exemption flag, as it appears that it is no longer required. From a check of your recently-used IP addresses, it does not look as though any of those IP addresses are blocked; IPBE is only granted on an as-need basis, and when that need no longer exists, the flag may be removed. If you encounter any difficulty editing as a result of this action, please post an unblock request using the {{unblock|your reason here}}

Norman Selfe
[edit]Hiya :-)
Don't suppose I could borrow a few minutes of your time to check on the FA nomination I've just made - for Norman Selfe. The first nomination was closed due to lack of comments and I was encouraged to relist it. Specifically there is a question about the copyright status of the Katoomba railway image that I'd like your advice on. Wittylama 10:41, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
- Oh wow - that was impressive! You have jumped in and responded to the specific thing I was asking you about WHILE I was writing the request! Did you get a premonition that I was going to ask about that? :-) Thank you for your *exceedingly* prompt help - any other thoughts on the FA nomination gratefully received. Wittylama 10:43, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
- Could you give me advice on one of the points raised in the review by SqueamishOssifage?
- He writes: "ISBNs need to follow page numbers, unlike in ref 2 and others." I responded, "I've placed the page numbers outside the 'cite book' template so that when I later use the 'short footnote' template I can specify a different page number (otherwise I'd be writing out the whole reference each time."
- I'm sure there's a solution to this but I don't understand the minutiae of footnote templates well enough. Getting all the bits of footnotes to refer to each other nicely is really confusing me! Wittylama 07:50, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- They're not simple are they? I'll try to get one of them working. --99of9 (talk) 10:05, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not quite sure if I've understood what you wanted, but I've put all the page numbers into the templates (trivial), and then made the short cites link to the first cite instead of the Bibliography (which I then could remove). Is this ok now? The one I couldn't fix was ref#21, because Selfe 1990 doesn't exist since he was long dead by then. --99of9 (talk) 10:40, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
Hi Toby. As someone who's commented on the Norman Self nomination, and now that the nomination is nearing the bottom of the FAC list with no new recent comments, I'd like to encourage you to make a statement of support/oppose or add new comments. This is the second time the article has been listed for FA as the first time was closed citing a lack of overt support votes. I'd hate for that to happen again. Sincerely, Wittylama 09:18, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- I haven't done a thorough review, I just picked the bits I was interested in. I'll try to make some time for it in the next couple of days. --99of9 (talk) 11:26, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
DYK for Reeva Steenkamp
[edit]On 30 March 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Reeva Steenkamp, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that South African model Reeva Steenkamp appeared in the reality TV show Tropika Island of Treasure which premiered two days after her death? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Reeva Steenkamp. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Disambiguation link notification for April 8
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Tumor-associated macrophage, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Stroma (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

DYK nomination
[edit]Cheers for the nomination! :-) We're very appreciative. Is there anything Mcarneyaus and I need to do to do with it? Not sure of the procedure! Hope you have a good weekend. 149.135.146.109 (talk) 07:49, 31 May 2013 (UTC) Sorry, that was me! Forgot I wasn't logged in. Cheers, Rubicon49bce (talk) 08:12, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Request re FAC
[edit]Would it be alright to move the thread involving your initial comments at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Everything Tastes Better with Bacon/archive2 to the FAC subpage's talk page?
I know you said your question was in good faith, but as I stated I had initially became involved in this (and several other bacon-related articles) through participation in the "Bacon WikiCup" (more info at WP:BACON) and I fear that this line of questioning may negatively color the rest of the FAC. I'll go ahead and add a note to my own nomination statement clarifying how I came to work on this particular article.
Would that be alright with you?
Thank you for your time, — Cirt (talk) 00:26, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Update: I have added a clarification to my nom statement. Now, since I've added that to the top of the FAC, would it be alright to move the thread including your comment to the talk page? — Cirt (talk) 00:29, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Done Sorry for asking in the wrong location, and thanks for your clarifications. --99of9 (talk) 07:12, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for moving that thread to the FAC talk page, much appreciated! — Cirt (talk) 16:24, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

[edit]I am hopeful that you will understand that I am doing my best to respond to every single one of your points raised as best I can, in a manner that at the same time does not conflict with other points raised by commenters at this FAC and the prior FAC. Thank you, — Cirt (talk) 19:41, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I realize that. I noticed the conflict over including RRP - if the consensus is to leave it out, I'm fine with that. --99of9 (talk) 19:47, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- RRP? — Cirt (talk) 19:48, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Recommended retail price. --99of9 (talk) 19:49, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- RRP? — Cirt (talk) 19:48, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
Can we move the long thread of your comments to the talk page, as I did my best to address all of the specific points you've raised? — Cirt (talk) 19:50, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- I'd rather not. They are part of my review. Some specific questions are not fully addressed (e.g. "what were the total sales?", "was it the first ever bacon only cookbook?"), and it's possible that other reviewers may be able to find additional sources for things like these. I can tick the ones I feel are complete if you want? --99of9 (talk) 19:57, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Can you please use strikeout to mark those I have addressed? — Cirt (talk) 20:04, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you! And Update: I've responded to your latest point at the FAC, added direct quotation from source, so could you strikeout that one, as well? — Cirt (talk) 20:29, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Update: Ref link fixed. — Cirt (talk) 20:34, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you. As you can see, I am doing my best to responsively address all points raised as best I can in good faith. :) — Cirt (talk) 20:43, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Indeed. Congratulations on your FA. --99of9 (talk) 11:24, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

Request for help with research
[edit]- I see by your strikeout that I have addressed the bulk of the vast majority of your comments at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Everything Tastes Better with Bacon/archive2.
- I note that so far at least one other commenter has changed to Support based upon my good faith attempts to respond to all of their points raised as best I can.
- It appears you only have two remaining points that I have tried my best to address so far, but that you are still unsatisfied with.
- Are total sales figures a key factor that hold back book articles for FAC, or that are included in all FA articles about books on Wikipedia?
- Perhaps you can help with research, to try to find this info?
Thank you for your time, and for the specific comments, — Cirt (talk) 20:14, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
