Annie, your article is written clearly and easy to understand. As a non-animal-science person, I would like to see more references. Carol570cjk (talk) 01:40, 18 November 2011 (UTC) Hi Annie, in the last paragraph I changed a word from "intended side effects" to "un-intended" hope that was right. I assume those side-effects are unwanted / unintended. Thanks and I enjoy your article! Wayne (570wac)
Annie - I would recommend references for the Metabolism, Regulations, and Adverse Effects Sections. 570mpp (talk) 15:02, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Annie, I would consider rewording your first two sentences. They are hard to read and don't really explain what ractopamine's uses or clearly explain what it is - a drug used to promote leanness and muscle growth in pigs and cows. I would also recommend adding references. I also added the chembox on the right. I could not find a working CAS number. Christi (570ces)
This is nicely organized. Can you add a paragraph on Mode of Action, perhaps before Metabolism? Alternaitvely, you can have one subsection on Mode of Action and Metabolism. 570jdw (talk) 16:55, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Annie -- under cardiovascular effects maybe add that the effects are directly Dose-dependent causing an increase in heart rate and cardiac output . Remove one "also" in this line.."The systolic blood pressure also will also increase in a dose-dependent manner, while the diastolic pressure remains unchanged.570nlh (talk) 21:01, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi - This is a great article. Great format with consideration to the use, risks, and even reference to the clembuterol/ractopamine confusion. Edits: I changed that racto is for fattening to "producing lean muscle mass." I know fattening means to put on weight, but I thought that it might be confusing to have "fat" in there when it's a "lean" muscle agent. It's your choice if you want to change it back. Also, Thailand has a ban against beta agonists in food and feed. Indonesia allows ractopamine for domestic use. Japan does not allow ractopamine for domestic use, but it allows it for imports. I switched in Korea for Japan to include an East Asian country. Ceci570csc (talk) 21:44, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
On the point of racto being "banned" by 150 countries, I've never been comfortable with that number. Is it that 150 countries ban ractopamine or beta agonists or is it that some have banned it and others have not approved it? Banned and not approved are different. It would be great to find the number of countries that actually ban it, like the EU 27. Ceci570csc (talk) 21:46, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
570csc, that number comes from the original ractopamine - source 2. This is a great expansion compared to the wiki article out there. I only suggest that you add a 'risk assessment' context at some point - I just want a feeling for the exposure levels people are experiencing where it is legal.
