Question from Vamps33 on Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey (12:10, 18 January 2024)
Can you help me edit the page I want to add somebody to the important people column --Vamps33 (talk) 12:10, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Vamps33! First, you will need to find some reliable sources as information on Wikipedia must be verifiable. Next, you can use the button at the top to insert a citation. If you're working in an infobox or other template, you will first need to get the wikitext source code of the citation by creating the citation outside of a template, switch to source mode, then cut/paste the citation into the infobox in VisualEditor. If you need help, you can ask at the reference desk for information on a topic, or the Teahouse for help on editing or using Wikipedia. Happy editing! ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 19:30, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
Question from Redoctopus2013 (06:04, 21 January 2024)
Hello, 2NumForIce. I was wondering how to create a new category on an article. Thank you.
Sincerely, Redoctopus2013 --Redoctopus2013 (talk) 06:05, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Redoctopus2013, if you want to add an existing category to a page, I recommend you use HotCat, a gadget to manage categories on pages. If you want to make a new category, first see Wikipedia:Categorization. Happy editing! ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 18:46, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
Show me a happy dinosaur --Hallie55 (talk) 19:26, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Hallie55: Sorry, but the "Ask your mentor a question" feature is only for questions on editing Wikipedia. If you're looking to use ChatGPT, it's at https://chat.openai.com. You can also ask Wikipedia-related questions at the Teahouse. Happy editing! ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 22:42, 22 January 2024 (UTC)

Custom signature fix needed
Hi there! You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. Changes to Wikipedia's software have made your current custom signature invalid.
The problem: Your signature contains a syntax error or obsolete HTML tags.
The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, you can fix your signature, or you can do nothing.
Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
- Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
- Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
- Remove anything in the Signature: text box.
- Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (Do not click the red "Restore all default settings" button, which will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
- Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
- Click the button next to the error to learn how to fix the error.
- Update your signature to fix the error.
- Click Save to update to your newly fixed signature.
Solution 3: Do nothing:
- In accordance with a recent request for comment, all invalid signatures will be changed to the default, which looks like "Example (talk)", one month from now.
If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:05, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- The mobile site history pages now use the same HTML as the desktop history pages. If you hear of any problems relating to mobile history usage please point them to the phabricator task.
- On most wikis, admins can now block users from making specific actions. These actions are: uploading files, creating new pages, moving (renaming) pages, and sending thanks. The goal of this feature is to allow admins to apply blocks that are adequate to the blocked users' activity. Learn more about "action blocks". [9][10]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 February. It will be on all wikis from 8 February (calendar). [11][12]
- Talk pages permalinks that included diacritics and non-Latin script were malfunctioning. This issue is fixed. [13]
Future changes
- 24 Wikipedias with Reference Tooltips as a default gadget are encouraged to remove that default flag. This would make Reference Previews the new default for reference popups, leading to a more consistent experience across wikis. For 46 Wikipedias with less than 4 interface admins, the change is already scheduled for mid-February, unless there are concerns. The older Reference Tooltips gadget will still remain usable and will override this feature, if it is available on your wiki and you have enabled it in your settings. [14][15]

Question from Vanessa hexagon (01:54, 16 February 2024)
Hi! I have a question - if I expand an article that's a stub, is there a way for me to save what I've done as a draft? Thanks :) --Vanessa hexagon (talk) 01:54, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Vanessa hexagon, if you mean an auto-save feature to save edits for later, an Edit-Recovery feature is available for testing but not on Wikipedias yet. If you mean starting a draft for an entirely new article, you can learn more at Help:Your first article. You may ask more questions on your Homepage. Happy editing! ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 02:25, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
Question from Alamu Abdulrahman (07:42, 18 February 2024)
Hello, How can I publish a article on Wikipedia. Dear Mentor --Alamu Abdulrahman (talk) 07:42, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Alamu Abdulrahman, you might first want to check our What Wikipedia is not policy, which outlines what Wikipedia should not be used for.
- You should also familiarize yourself with Wikipedia by editing existing articles, which you can learn how by going to the Wikipedia introduction, and find articles to edit using your Homepage.
- When you are ready to create your own article, go to Help:Your first article, which outlines the process of writing and submitting an article draft.
- If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask at the Wikipedia:Teahouse or on your Special:Homepage. Happy editing! ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 16:25, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

- There are changes to how user and site scripts load for Vector 2022 on specific wikis. The changes impacted the following Wikis: all projects with Vector legacy as the default skin, Wikivoyage, and Wikibooks. Other wikis will be affected over the course of the next three months. Gadgets are not impacted. If you have been affected or want to minimize the impact on your project, see this ticket. Please coordinate and take action proactively.

how do I change my username I made a mistake with it.
id like to change it to Jms Brynt --Jms brynt (talk) 03:34, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Jms brynt, first, check the Wikipedia:Changing username#Must read page, which contains important information about changing your username. Then go to Special:GlobalRenameRequest to submit your new username, as well as a reason such as "change capitalization" or "fix typo". Your request will then be reviewed by a steward who will rename your account for you. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask me using your Homepage or at the Teahouse. Question from JGopal01 on Palam, Parbhani (06:31, 24 February 2024)
I want to add tourism Section --JGopal01 (talk) 06:31, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @JGopal01, I have reverted your edit because it is related to another subject, there are a few capitalization errors, it does not conform to our Manual of Style, and it also needs some copyediting. A tourism section (and Wikipedia) is for encyclopedic information related to tourism, not a travel guide, which is best suited for our sister project, Wikivoyage:. You might want to learn how to edit in our Introduction, as well as learn about our style conventions on the Simplified Manual of Style. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask me using your Homepage or at the Teahouse. Happy editing! ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 03:08, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

- The mobile visual editor is now the default editor for users who never edited before, at a small group of wikis. Research shows that users using this editor are slightly more successful publishing the edits they started, and slightly less successful publishing non-reverted edits. Users who defined the wikitext editor as their default on desktop will get the wikitext editor on mobile for their first edit on mobile as well. [30]
- The mw.config value
wgGlobalGroups
now only contains groups that are active in the wiki. Scripts no longer have to check whether the group is active on the wiki via an API request. A code example of the above is:if (/globalgroupname/.test(mw.config.get("wgGlobalGroups")))
. [31]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 27 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 28 February. It will be on all wikis from 29 February (calendar). [32][33]
Future changes
- The right to change edit tags (
changetags
) will be removed from users in Wikimedia sites, keeping it by default for admins and bots only. Your community can ask to retain the old configuration on your wiki before this change happens. Please indicate in this ticket to keep it for your community before the end of March 2024.
