November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello 2NumForIce:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 1200 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:23, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from 100panama (02:58, 1 November 2023)

I want to add an important but missing credential to Steffi Graf's Wikipedia entry. How do I do it? --100panama (talk) 02:58, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi @100panama,
To edit an article, simply click the "Edit" button at the top right of the page, and edit away!
But, before you do actual editing, you might want to learn about Wikipedia's norms and policies. A great way to learn is through The Wikipedia Adventure, which is an interactive experience which explains the most important Wikipedia rules.
When you're ready, be bold and start editing. After you make your first edit, I'll follow up here with some more info, or ask another question on your Homepage or the Teahouse.
Happy editing! ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 21:58, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Ansh353 (07:52, 2 November 2023)

Why is my edit to a Wikipedia article being reverted? --Ansh (talk) 07:52, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Ansh353,
It seems that your edits contain original research. Although they are useful for other things, Wikipedia requires everything to be cited using reliable sources so that all information can be verified.
To find sources to cite, start with a Google search like:

"Article title" -wikipedia

This will search for pages that don't include Wikipedia and have the article title. If the title contains disambiguation text (like this), remove them before searching. You can then add more keywords in the search, using "quotes" to only look for pages with the exact string. You can also use the header in the talk page of the article for links to find sources.
If you need more help, you can ask me again on your Homepage, visit the Teahouse, or get live help through IRC.
Happy editing! ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 22:11, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
Where can I find reliable sources? Ansh (talk) 03:47, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
You can use the above Google search example to find sources, or go to the article's talk page and look in the header for something like this:

Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · NYT · TWL

You can try the links that would be displayed here. However, make sure that the sources are reliable before adding it to an article. ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 04:48, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Can an external link be added to the source? If yes can those accounts be blocked by wikipedia calling it advertaisment? Ansh (talk) 07:42, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Ansh353 (12:42, 3 November 2023)

Can Wikipedia give me backlinks in future for my website? --Ansh (talk) 12:42, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Wikipedia web references should include web links (or else it won't make sense). However, you shouldn't promote your website, as those attempts will get reverted, and your site may get blocked. Even if they don't get reverted, links still serve no purpose as the nofollow setting is added to all external links. To cite a source, click the Cite link in the toolbar, and this will give you fields that you need to fill out. When done, it will insert a <ref> tag (or, if in VisualEditor, it will appear as a citation). ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 15:20, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Arbitration

  • Eligible editors are invited to self-nominate themselves from 12 November 2023 until 21 November 2023 to stand in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections.
  • Xaosflux, RoySmith and Cyberpower678 have been appointed to the Electoral Commission for the 2023 Arbitration Committee Elections. BusterD is the reserve commissioner.

  • Following a motion, remedies 3.1 (All related articles under 1RR whenever the dispute over naming is concerned), 6 (Stalemate resolution) and 30 (Administrative supervision) of the Macedonia 2 case have been rescinded.
  • Following a motion, remedy 6 (One-revert rule) of the The Troubles case has been amended.
  • An arbitration case named Industrial agriculture has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case close 8 November.

What Option

What Option you deciton to delateion? Samchristie05 (talk) 23:06, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Samchristie05,
It seems that you are trying to add a redirect from article space (mainspace) to draft space. This isn't allowed, as drafts are not intended for regular readers, so I have tagged it for deletion.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me. ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 23:10, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
how to delate the page? Samchristie05 (talk) 01:37, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
To delete a page that you created, you can add {{db-author}} at the very top of the page, or if it's a user page, use {{db-userreq}} instead. ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 01:51, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Ansh353 (08:42, 11 November 2023)

What is a userpage in Wikipedia for? --Ansh (talk) 08:42, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

User pages are a space where you can work on article drafts, experiment, and collaborate with other users. User pages should be limited to Wikipedia-related content (what is allowed and what is not). You can start a sandbox where you can experiment by starting a user subpage at User:your username/sandbox. ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 21:19, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Andrew Violette Wikipedia entry

Hello,

I'm Bruce Posner and see that you are assigned as my new mentor. I drafted a Wikipedia page for Andrew Violette for the English version of Wikipedia, which page was declined (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Andrew_Violette). I see now that someone has created a stub entry, in English, in the French version of Wikipedia (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Violette). Do you recommend I add to the French version page or pursue an entry in the English version? Any recommendations welcome.

Thanks. Bfposner2 (talk) 23:24, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Note that this is my account when using public computers.@User:USErnAMEGOGT
Hi @Bfposner2! You might be able to translate the French version of a page to the English version. However, it is a complicated task, and I would recommend you first take a look at the review note and do that first. Note that the CXT (Content Translation Tool) can only start new articles (not edit existing ones) and is restricted to extended-confirmed users (30 days and 500 edits).
I have left a note on the draft for reviewers to add the {{Expand French}} template after it's accepted so that others can improve the article.
If you have another question, you can use your Homepage directly to ask a question.
Happy editing! ~~2NumForIce on The Go 23:58, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for your recommendation, but I want to draw your attention to the fact that the Andrew Violette entry in the French version is written in English. Bfposner2 (talk) 00:34, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
