Hi 1bookfan, just letting you know - autograph pages should generally be in userspace, not in the main article space... even if you might be affronted by the notice, putting user pages in the article space is generally considered vandalism. Just a heads-up. Cheers, GlobeGores (talk) 01:05, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey 1bookfan, I hope you did not consider my notice rude. You can actually create your own autograph book on your user page. Check out WP:SUBPAGES for a guide on how to do that. Good luck. --SimpleParadox 01:14, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, please don't put barnstars on Jimbo's userpage. Please put them on User talk:Jimbo Wales. Thanks. JetLover (talk) (Report a mistake) 03:21, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd also like to remind you that we are not a social networking site. Thanks. JetLover (talk) (Report a mistake) 03:29, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Arab tribune

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Arab tribune requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page you created, you may want to consult WP:Your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. JetLover (talk) (Report a mistake) 03:26, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User subpage

[edit]

Hey, just letting you know that you created a page in the mainspace, when it should have been made as a user subpage. I moved it for you to here. (User:1bookfan/User Awards). Happy editing! Icestorm815 (talk) 05:27, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey...

[edit]

Just letting you know, if you want a subpage, all you have to do is create a page with the title User:1bookfan/(titlename) and there you have it. To transclude a page, add two brackets {{}}, and as to command, add three brackets: {{{1}}}. If you need any more help, use the {{helpme}} template. There, and happy editing! —BoL @ 05:36, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

speedy deletion of 1bookfan/milestones

[edit]

i've nominated the page 1bookfan/milestones for speedy deletion. it seems like you are trying to start a sub page but you ended up with an article. to create a subpage, place the text under user:1bookfan/milestones instead of just 1bookfan/milestones.Ryan shell (talk) 02:30, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Category:Wikipedians in Alabama, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Category:Wikipedians in Alabama has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Category:Wikipedians in Alabama, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 13:00, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a social networking site

[edit]

Hello. While we appreciate that you seem to be enjoying yourself, it's of concern that you appear to be mainly using Wikipedia for social networking activities rather than improving encyclopedia articles. Please understand that Wikipedia is not a blog, webspace provider, or social networking site. If you continue your activities in this fashion, you may be subject to censure from the community. Thank you. Metros (talk) 14:22, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yet again, I am here to remind you that this is an encyclopedia and not a place to hang out to have cool user page features. Metros (talk) 03:54, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with him. I used to do that, and I ended up getting blocked for 48 hours. So...? —BoL @ 04:56, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry :{ 1Bookfan Talk

See, this is the kind of nonsense I'm talking about. You just spent 4+ minutes and 6 edits trying to get your signature correct. That's pretty unnecessary. Metros (talk) 05:05, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's true. Even I'm not obsessed with my sig. Preview, then save. —BoL @ 05:07, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Or just use a default signature and not worry about any of this crap of making sure it looks perfect and all the HTML lines up right, etc. etc. Metros (talk) 05:10, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry :{ 1Bookfan Talk

On your future with Wikipedia

[edit]

I should probably tell you this: there are several editors who have severe doubts about your future editing on Wikipedia. You're treating the project like it's a social website, which it isn't. Wikipedia is, and always will be, about writing an encyclopedia. There's been a recent purge of pages from your personal userspace, which has been deleted as a gross abuse of what the user namespace is for; personal pages that relate somehow to editing the encyclopedia, rather than just stuff relating to you, personally. Yes, there are exceptions to this, such as userboxes and personal essays, but putting things like the golden globes are way out of scope.

Quite frankly, you need to focus on editing the encyclopedia. Leniency in regards to userspace comes with valued contributions to the project, of which you've made very, very few (for example, I've got about a hundred or so subpages, but I've also got over 100+ solid mainspace contributions [1])

I wish to see you stick around as an editor and spend your copious free moments in improving the encyclopedia, but continuing to treat Wikipedia like a new MySpace or Facebook is a sure ticket to a short drop and a sudden stop, so to speak. Consider this a friendly but stern head's up. The same happened to me, you know.

Categorizing articles

[edit]

Hi I noticed that you tried to add Horton, Alabama to Category:Marshall County, Alabama by directly adding it to the category page. This is incorrect. You categorize an article by adding the category name to the article page like this: [[Category:Marshall County, Alabama]]. I've corrected your previous attempt.  :) Aleta (talk) 19:31, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copied from your comment on the user page of Jimbo Wales

[edit]

I have copied here what I wrote in response to your last comment on Mr. Wales's talk page wherein you hoped no one was angry at your use of German there:

"No one is angry about your use of German on this page; some of us were merely confused. It happens, here as elsewhere. Mr. Wales has invited commentary in German, so it would ill behoove any of the rest of us to take any other position. Bielle (talk) 23:44, 22 December 2007 (UTC)"[reply]
No need to apologise. Those of us for whom English is our cradle tongue are frequently confused by its many ways of making statements. The only anger (and it was more distrubed than angry) was Mr. Wales's, and he was disturbed that your German text had been removed simply because it was in German. Eveything is fine now. No German text will be deleted from his talk page simply because of the language in which it is written. Happy editing Bielle (talk) 23:57, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

subpage usage

[edit]

I'm here for two reasons.

  1. I found your secrete subpage
  2. To dully inform you of subpage misusage

You're not supposed to use subpages for searches and such, but I'm just going to give you a slap on the wrist (metaphoricaly). Although personaly I don't really care what you do in your userspace. YДмΔќʃʀï→ГC← 12-23-2007 • 23:20:34

Wikipedia Campus Ambassadors wanted in Troy, Alabama

[edit]

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you're listed as a Wikipedian in Alabama. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at Troy University, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).

I know Alabama is a big state, but if you happen to live near Troy and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from Troy who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 16:20, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
