Non-free images
I think it is good to discuss (at length if necessary) which non-free images are allowed in Wikipedia and which ones are not. Although sometimes it feels like I'm arguing with someone who is opposing for the sake of argument. I tried to address the issue of non-free images in my fair use help. I would appreciate your comments on this. – Ilse@ 12:58, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Just a message
Why do you have to justify what is your nationality. Be proud of whatever you are. Even if you are being insulted, don't pay attention. I thought you would'nt pay attention. But when you added that justification on your user page, i think you are taking it to heart. I am an Indian and the extent of racism i face, you have no idea of it. Luxurious.gaurav 15:47, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
- Don't worry; I didn't take it to heart. I found it funny that people think Puerto Ricans are Mexican. It's quite impressive how hard it is to confuse the two. 17Drew 20:43, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Re: Redirects
By reverting my changes aren't you yourself in violation of changing links to redirects that aren't broken? There are many reasons for changing a redirect. As you can see, I did not change all of them. The ones I did, I had reasons for. I do a lot of work with disambiguation, double redirects, and broken redirects. Most of my changes were to prevent future problems. For example, one link was to MTV Video Music Award for Best Pop Video and was listed as Best Pop Video. Now, yes, this is a working redirect, however in the future it may not be. The person who first wrote this should have redirected in the first place since "Best Pop Video" is pretty vague and others beside MTV can award this same exact title. It should be pipelined to "Best Pop Video" because in the context of the article, the rest of the title is not necessary. (Also, the link that followed was Best Group Video pipelined in this manner and I was going for consistency). Another example, I changed Hot 100 to Hot 100 because that is what it is. The article had the Billboard part already linked to the magazine. I'll admit, I went a little overboard changing these, however, you changing them back is worse because you intentionally changed perfectly working link to a redirect. When you revert my redirects, you also reverted some other changes I made. With this explained, I hope you understand why I reverted your changes. -Rocket000 05:22, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I'm not going to change things back again, but I stand by my changes. I mean why intentionally leave the links in a "good enough" condition and deal with it when it becomes a problem rather than being preventive. I could understand your issue with this if those were the only changes I made, but they weren't. I linked Bounty Killer because that is how the infoboxes are done. See the rest of the links there, they are linked in the article too. I know it's not really necessary, but it matches the majority of how the other song infoboxes are done and I think it looks better. You may have fixed some of the spaces but, not the extra whitespace in the infobox. This extra space (which varies every line for some reason) makes it a lot harder to read when editing. I know it doesn't affect the reader, but I was looking out for the editor. Sorry about reverting your change (pop music -> Pop music). I overlooked this. I didn't realized you added your own edit in the reversion. All you said in your summary was a partial reversion. (You are aware that this link was lowercase to begin with, I didn't capitalize it, I just switched it to the front). -Rocket000 06:04, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Just a note...
To say that I think Jimmjet89/Jimjet89/Jimjet9489 is back again under the account Jim9489. I won't perform any blocks though; I'll see if he continues his image-disruption first. Acalamari 21:30, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Legality
I picked your name as it was first on the list. If you check the wikipedia article on IP Address, you will find it is illegal to casually give out the IP address of other people in Europe as this is private information. I trust wikipedia will stop this illegal practise now? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.9.39.91 (talk) 09:06, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Request
I feel the current picture of Gwen Stefani is quite odd. I know it gives a clear view of the front face, but the expression is not the one which (according to me) matches the wikipedia standards. Is there no better picture in which she has a happy or rather neutral expression. Luxurious.gaurav 15:13, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
And yes, what happened to What You Waiting For's race to appear on the main page? Luxurious.gaurav 15:47, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi, it is my personal request that can you give RIAA single certification[2] a look? The article is horribly incorrect. For Example, Hollaback Girl -7 times platinum and The Sweet Escape-9 times platinum, which is completely wrong. Thank You! Luxurious.gaurav 15:56, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Should We?...
Should we add "Southside" and "Can I have it Like That" and "Let Me Blow ya mind" to the music video section of Gwen Stefani Discography. I have the name of video director and source for all three songs. Luxurious.gaurav 06:56, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading Image:Halloween6cover.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:05, 9 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ejfetters 06:05, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- I added the above comment as a standard template for the image there, a link has been provided, but it looks like a link to the film cover, and not the poster in the image. Maybe we can upload the image at that link to fix that problem? Ejfetters 06:05, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Gwen Stefani discography
Hey Drew, I noticed in the album section of the discography, you left out the peak chart positions. Unlike some discographies like Christina Aguilera discography, your one doesn't have the album peaks. I'm just curious to know why you decided to keep it out. Maybe it's better left in the album article? Oh and awesome job in bringing Hey Ya! to a featured article. I appreciate all the work you've done to a lot of articles here. Signature Song
I think it has to be Hollaback Girl, because in many many articles i have seen that they say (for example) - "The Hollaback singer kick starts her world tour...". Even in one of the sources used in Gwen Stefani articles, the heading of the source is something like Hollaback. Even though The Sweet Escape (song) was far more successful than Hollaback Girl, the latter continues to be her signature song. I think the only way to figure out which song is her signature song, we have to browse through zillions of articles and exctract a bunch of them which say for example, things like "The Hollaback singer....". I don't think a source will ever mention about which song is her signature song. I will get the source and let you know. Luxurious.gaurav 10:23, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
You might find this a tiresome job, but can you please count the total number of shows of The Sweet Escape Tour, it's coming to 100, while it's written 98 in the box beside. Please check and do inform me if i am wrong/right. Thanks! Luxurious.gaurav 10:10, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Please don't bite the newbies
Flagging the article for deletion that Smithgiant completely rewrote over the last week since he or she joined (looks to me like September 10th), comes very close to violating the behavioral guideline of Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers.
It seems that it would be much better to work with Smithgiant to get the article into shape than flagging his or her hard work with a deletion tag. Better to have a substandard article out there for a bit than to ostracize and alienate someone who's trying to become a wikipedian.
Also, newbies often remove flags without realizing they need to comment. It doesn't appear that you let Smithgiant know that deleting your flag was inappropriate, or made any comments. Please work with the newbies, and encourage their work. Fredsmith2 02:05, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

I noticed that you nominated the similar Futurama page for deletion, so I was wondering if you were going to come after List of one-time characters from The Simpsons. I just cleaned the page up and cut 90% of the cruft and added a lot of real world info. I think the page passes the WP:FICT guidelines. As well, many of the pages that redirect here were done so because of AFDs that the result was "redirect to List of one-time characters from The Simpsons". Several of the characters listed are major characters within the Simpsons universe, such as Frank Grimes, Hank Scorpio, Jacques and Leon Kompowsky. Major characters that don't have enough real world info to qualify for an individual page, but haven't appeared multiple times and thus don't belong on the recurring page. Anyway, thanks for the time, Scorpion0422 18:14, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Ocean Spray logo.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Ocean Spray logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 20:30, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

- actually, perhaps you can give me a little advice, I have just started checking the Recent changes page over the last couple of days, it's easy to see the obvious vandalism (replacing topics with blank pages, obscene language etc) and very blatant POV, but I was confused regarding copyright - if something is provided by the copyright owner ie. the music videos that i mistakenly removed from youtube, they are fine - if they are commercial music videos/TV/movies on youtube that were added by a regular user (not the copyright owner) should I remove them? tag them? contact the editor who places them there? also when it comes to images, someone mentioned that all flikr images were now public domain, and suitable for wikipedia, is that true? sorry for the questions, I just don't want to mess up again. thanks Sennen goroshi 07:16, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

I remember learning from you earlier this year that using colours in award lists (such as highlighting wins) is against NPOV. HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE USUALLY FOR AN ARTICLE TO GET GA REVIEW? Indianescence 04:06, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
That really gives me patience. L.A.M.B has been waiting for only 10 days. Can you suggest me a nice Fashion article so that i can follow it. And if it's a celebrity fashion article, then it's like cherry on the cake. I am working on a topic which i completely alien to me. Indianescence 04:15, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Whoa! If L.A.M.B passes GA, it would be the first fashion line to do so! Because of this reason, i have to do everything on my own. Gucci, Prada, Dolce and gabanna, Armani...none are GA. Indianescence 04:28, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

How much do U know 'bout images?
Some snarky Britney fan uploaded a fake Blackout album cover image overtop of Image:Nocover.jpg. I grabbed an old copy of the image and put it back, but I'm not 100% sure I did it right... for example I kept the licensing there as a CD cover because I wasn't sure what to change it to, based on the choices I had in the drop-down menu. I tried to just do a revert but that didn't work. Can you take a quick look at it? I protected the image - I just wanted to get the correct .jpg uploaded again right away since it is on a bunch of articles. Please and thanks! - eo 21:31, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

FL Main page proposal
You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination recently. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual content will resemble the current content at the featured content page. Such output would probably start at the bottom of the main page. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 19:00, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Nathaniel Street-West: article has been edited by editors claiming to be associated with the subject
Hi. Thank you for pointing out several major errors associated with the Nathaniel Street-West Wikipedia page. I am quite new to Wikipedia as you more experienced editors can readily see. I can see that the article needs far more documenting to the proper sources and I am working on a reasonable system for doing so. I have read many Wikipedia biographies of musicians and where as some have a footnote for practically each and every sentence, many more are written in a looser format that lists sources but without pasting numbers and footnotes all over the place. This will take some time, however the material will be properly sourced. Do the tags have to be left in place? It only embarrasses the subject... On a more serious note, the messages that were left in association with the photograph uploads in this article in no way implies that the photographers who logged in under the "Penny Lane" editor claim to be (or are) associated with the subject. I can see how it would be confusing for several photographers to log on using the same editorial user name. I see the error now and from this point on there will be no more than one person (editor) logging on as PennyLane100. Unfortunately two of the photographers/artists who uploaded several image files (Image:American Way Cover Art.jpg; Image:Witness Cover 300px.jpg; Image:Nathaniel Street-West in 2006.jpg) by logging in under the PennyLane100 editor name identified themselves as being associated with Puffin Records. This is because I requested the images from Puffin Records and the employees misunderstood the ground rules for how to identify themselves and the legal status of the photographs. As the editor PennyLane100 I am not associated with the subject and neither are the photographers who logged in as "aliases" of PennyLane100 associated with the subject. I requested images of the subject from Puffin Records and the people who logged in as “aliases” and uploaded these images at my request misunderstood what to write. I am the sole editor of the initial text & page design (before other editor's recent corrections) and hold myself responsible for all errors. I am uploading all new photographs for this article and any photographs I request from Puffin Records I will ask to have sent to the Wikipedia Commons if at all possible. Our webmaster devised the plan to use one editor username for the whole page so that the photographers could simply log in as PennyLane100 and upload, and was confused by the immense amount of data ruling who may and may not claim a copyrighted image, and by the many different licensing regulations and this led to the mess. Nevertheless, I am taking all responsibility for this embarrassing debacle. There is no conspiracy here. The people who logged in appropriately (me) and inappropriately (those we asked to log in as a convenience) as Penny Lane100 are not in cahoots together in any diabolical way. My biggest concern is that I have embarrassed the artist, Nathaniel Street-West, by thinking of him having to suffer through the egregious and threatening warnings plastered across the top of his Wikipedia page. AT the very least, I am requesting that the "conflict of interest" notice be removed from the head of the page. I am also requesting that other editors refrain from accusing me of having some undue conflict of interest in relation to the subject. (By the way, who is the person in charge of removing these notices?) Again, thank you for your help! I hope this clears up the situation and I will be passing this on to the other editors who mentioned a possible conflict of interest. (Apologies for the long message!) Spears' image removal
I browsed the page history and if found out that you Drew removed the image with reason per edit summary. Yes i understand because its copyrighted and its replaceable however, this image which is currently being used in the page is also copyrighted and the same type of image which is screeshot. What wrong? --βritandβeyonce (talk•contribs) 10:17, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ok. I understand your point. It doesn't met NFCC Policy#8. --βritand&βeyonce (talk•contribs) 07:23, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Please add these things
The articles Wind It Up and Hollaback Girl don't have anything in their chart section which talks about their performance on United World Chart. I have the points they collected on the chart, but if their performance is not mentioned, points won't make any sense. Indianescence 12:23, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Oi To The World
Hey, with Oi To The World by No Doubt, there was a video made and I found the album it came from. Amazon. Should this be a single for No Doubt and should there be an article made for it? BatterBean 09:51, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Please note Drew
The following things are discovered:-
1. The peak of "Can i have it like that" is confusing. The Paragraph about chart performance says that it peaked at number 49 on the Hot 100, while the chart table says it peaked at number 48. Can you please correct that.
2. Reference number 10 of Luxurious is empty. Can you look in to the matter?
3. Can you add the United World Chart performance of the songs Wind it Up and Hollaback Girl in their chart performance para. I feel it's very necessary.
Thank you! Indianescence 09:23, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Luxury chords!
Hello there, Drew! I'm glad to help you out there. I didn't know the song and it quite frightened me through all that tension it builds over and over again. Well, it seems like you have the wrong chords. I've listened to the song carefully and sorted out the whole progression. There are only five chord moves which repeat throughout the song with no variation - the bassline witnesses it.
First of all, the song's in a major tone, and not minor, as a typical Andalusian cadence would demand. The chords are as following: F | E7b9 | Am | Gm-C , where each "|" signifies a new bar; the Gm-C run fits in only one measure (each lasts half a measure, say a half note in typical 4/4). If you don't feel enlightened with why is it major, try this one: play the chords, omitting the "E7b9" chord, and it'll surely sound major to you. That avoided chord is the only queer sonority in the progressionl; the rest are quite everyday. However, it is it who produces the whole tension in the song, so the other "trivial" chord moves just weigh it down.
The tonic in this progression is the F chord, so shall's write it down as a "I". Now, the E7b9 would have little to do with the rest of the song (at least, through the tonal point of view) if there wasn't an Am coming after it. The Am chord is the third step in F major, that we'll call a "iii". Therefore, the E7b9 is a secondary dominant to Am, just that it features not only a seventh, but also a ninth. It is a minor ninth because it fits better with the following minor chord (a major ninth would've sounded a little modal or jazzy). So, the E7b9-Am move writes as a "V9/iii - iii".
Following, just a plain "ii - V" (Gm-C), which resolves back to I (F). Sometimes, between "iii" and "ii", a silent "iii" can be heard (especially the bass, which goes: A-Ab-G). That's a very common move, often automatic to many listeners and musicians. So, the whole progression looks like this:
- jazz-pop notation: F | E7b9 | Am(-Abm) | Gm-C (and back to F, and so on)
- tonal harmony: I - V9/iii - iii (- iii) - ii - V (and back to I)
That's a hundred miles away from Andalusian cadences! Although it does start with "I" and some kind of "VII" (i.e., the "V9/iii" chord), and it ends in "V", it is major and also employs modal steps, such as "ii" and "iii"! The Andalusian dramatism's is over :) However, there is still some significant tension out there, but it's more of a jazzy kind. Good luck with the article! If you have furher questions, don't be afraid to ask. (Impy4ever 13:13, 28 October 2007 (UTC))
