Wrath of Khan, two-dimensional thinking
[edit]Your edit summary in this edit:
- Spock's line in the movie, (referring to Khan) is: "He is intelligent, but not experienced. His pattern indicates two-dimensional thinking."
The line in the article you are changing, from:
- Kirk exploits Khan's inexperience in space combat and three-dimensional thinking to critically disable Reliant.
to:
- Kirk exploits Khan's inexperience in space combat and two-dimensional thinking to critically disable Reliant
The meaning of the article's line, the way I read it, is "Kirk exploits Khan's inexperience in space combat and [inexperience in] three-dimensional thinking". The wording as you have changed it implies, to me, that Kirk is exploiting Khan's inexperience in two-dimensional thinking, which is not correct. Since you made the change twice, though, rather than revert it again, I've added the word "his" before "two-dimensional thinking" to try to address the ambiguity. I'm not sure the wording is ideal this way, but it's better than it was without it. I just wanted to clarify where I think you are interpreting the line differently than I am.--Fru1tbat (talk) 20:20, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- You're interpetation of the line doesn't matter. The line is quoted verbatim from the film. Don't rewrite it. SonOfThornhill (talk) 23:11, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- It's odd that you would use the word "verbatim" when one can fairly easily compare the actual line, quoted in a couple recent edit summaries, with the article, and plainly see they don't match exactly. I'm only interested in making the meaning accurate (and you should be too), and I don't believe the current wording accomplishes that. And yes, my interpretation does matter if it's an interpretation shared by other readers. --Fru1tbat (talk) 10:45, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
