Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Sorry, just since it had such an edit ability for easy click, I did so.

I apologize to to Aphex, I listened to 2015 youtube play, then seen the news the next day explained Wikipedia was edit able. So hearing you for over an hour the night before ends up I thought of you to edit. I only changed names and birth date in one area of the page. I am completely sorry for any miswonder of my intent. Love your unique clicks and bings, Jared Dean Jay Girlfriendfingers (talk) 02:40, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Adding photographer's credit to a photo caption

[edit]

Hi NicoScribe! I see no problems or harm with giving credit to photographers of any image on any Wikipedia article page. Of course I know that all copyright licence agreements and authors name is on archive at Wikimedia Commons, but that is a different section from Wikipedia articles. I think adding a photographer's credit to photo captions provides acknowledgement, recognition and exposure to the photographer's work upfront and may encourage more professional photographers to give permission to use their work on Wikipedia. Most fan photos are often poor in quality but great in quantity yet most uploaders choose not to use fan photos. It is clear that Wikipedia article pages with images have more page views that ones that do not. If you are a professional photographer would you not want your name displayed on a Wikipedia page especially after you gave permission to use it on Wikipedia? Cheers! (KittyLover (talk) 02:37, 16 February 2017 (UTC))[reply]

Hi KittyLover. I have seen that you have written the same comments in Talk:Jennifer Aniston#Adding photographer's credit to a photo caption, so I have answered there. Regards --NicoScribe (talk) 10:58, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Photo of Mark Linkous

[edit]

Again, I DID NOT upload it, as your message infers. I don't know how to remove this from all sites. Maybe you could assist me, rather than ask why I did this or that? How about it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ocgiii (talkcontribs) 17:05, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ocgiii: you did not add the image to the article Mark Linkous but, according to your list of "global contributions" on all the Wikimedia projects, someone using your account uploaded commons:File:Linkousin1992.jpg into Commons on 12 November 2009.
I am not an expert on Commons, but I see in commons:Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion that you can not ask for a speedy deletion (because the file is older than 7 days) and that you can fill a deletion request. The page about deletion requests says that you just have to go to the file page (commons:File:Linkousin1992.jpg) and click on "Nominate for deletion" in the "Tools" menu on the left (with more detailed instructions described in commons:Help:Nominate for deletion).

Logos by Aolden23

[edit]

Hello @Yamla and Fastily: I have noticed the edits [1], [2], [3], [4] and [5] due to the presence of the associated articles in the category:Articles with missing files. All these edits have the same pattern: Yamla has been reverting edits by Aolden23 (talk · contribs) (who has been blocked for copyright violations) but Fastily has deleted the old files between the date of Aolden23's edits and the date of Yamla's edits (because they were unused non-free media files for more than 7 days since Aolden23's edits) so some articles show red links to deleted files. I have two questions:

  1. Yamla, do you intent to go to Commons to ask for the deletion of the 71 files uploaded there by Aolden23? I could do it, but I am not an expert about logos, copyright and deletions requests for batch of files.
  2. Fastily, is it possible (perhaps after the file-by-file deletion analysis on Commons) to restore the old non-free files on WP when Aolden23 replaced them by copyrighted files on Commons, during his 56 contributions here?

Regards, --NicoScribe (talk) 09:00, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am a bit late, but I have just found that everything has been corrected in Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion/Archive 276#Multi F5 lost logs affected by block+revert, so I send many thanks to KylieTastic and Graeme Bartlett. --NicoScribe (talk) 18:36, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects

Icelandic names: Reply from my talk page

[edit]

I've noticed that you've reverted the guidlines on Wikipedia:Categorization of people - I would think that you'd say reverting DEFAULTSORT like "DEFAULTSORT:Ellert Solvason" would revert back to DEFAULTSORT:Solvason, Ellert. I apologise for possible misunderstanding. Iggy (talk) 17:15, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Iggy the Swan: I have made this revert on the guideline just before my first message in your talk page, that's what I said in my message. For Ellert Sölvason, the correct DEFAULTSORT is DEFAULTSORT:"Solvason, Ellert". And it should be combined with the sort key "Ellert Solvason" on the Icelandic categories. Now, are you OK with the guideline and my explanations in your talk page? If it is the case, well, your modifications of DEFAULTSORT done on 11 October 2017 about Icelandic footballers should be modified. --NicoScribe (talk) 17:31, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'll revert them if that's alright. Iggy (talk) 17:33, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK @Iggy the Swan: thank you. --NicoScribe (talk) 17:35, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello 2A02:C7F:A817:DC00:180A:2B80:11FE:8F33,
First of all, I want to thank you for your contribution to Who Is It (Björk song), because you have cited your source. This is a great reflex, according to Wikipedia:Citing sources. I undid your contribution because your source contains only comments from anonymous users (like you and me), so this is not reliable according to WP:NOTRELIABLE.
WP:NOTRELIABLE comes from the policy Wikipedia:Verifiability, and WP:USERGENERATED (cited in my edit summary) comes from the content guideline Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources.

Sorting of Icelanders' names

[edit]

Hi there, NicoScribe! I see you reverted my editing on the sorting of Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir and María Ellingsen. As a result, I checked more carefully into the WP procedures and turned up Wikipedia:WikiProject Iceland/Style advice which describes more clearly how to categorize and sort Icelandic names. I will now check through my recent edits on other Icelanders and adapt as necessary.

Hi @Ipigott: OK, thanks. I have cited the guideline WP:SUR in my edit summaries: WP:SUR and Wikipedia:WikiProject Iceland/Style advice say the same thing but, yes, the latter gives more details.

SivakarthikeyanAtharvaaViroshan

[edit]

Hi NicoScribe - thanks for your post at User talk:SivakarthikeyanAtharvaaViroshan
I totally agree - I could find no sources for any of the edits made by this editor, who has only added "Viroshan" or "ViroshanS" as a cast member to numerous articles.
Obviously, the user's name SivakarthikeyanAtharvaaViroshan can be shortened to Viroshan or ViroshanS, the two names that he has been adding.
I have deleted all the users edits, and all mention of Viroshan or ViroshanS have completely disappeared from Wikipedia - so it seems clear the user was just spamming their name into numerous articles. It may be worth searching for Viroshan and VirashanS for a few days to be sure they do not try re-adding themselves using a different account. Thanks for your help in this - Arjayay (talk)

Hi @Arjayay: OK and thanks. Well, for the moment, the user has stopped. I still hope that SivakarthikeyanAtharvaaViroshan will answer to our remarks.
In my remarks, I have listed several films, but they were not chosen randomly: I had already noticed edits almost identical to SivakarthikeyanAtharvaaViroshan's ones. You can look at Special:Contributions/2405:3800:100:11AB:0:0:0:1 and Special:Contributions/2405:3800:80:4301:0:0:0:1...

Rollback granted

[edit]

Hi NicoScribe. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! TonyBallioni (talk) 20:58, 26 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry, I know nothing about these subjects.
The article Oyoor already exists. I see that Oyoor is a township of Velinalloor village in the Kollam district. The article Kollam district already exists too. I have checked several articles about districts. They only mention the major cities and towns. Velinalloor is not mentioned in the article Kollam district. So I think that Oyoor should not be mentioned in this article, too.
Well, you should ask for guidance in Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics or in Wikipedia:Help desk.

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

[edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!
