Moves done

Elen has finished with the histmerges of the two drafts. So everything should be good now. SilverserenC 00:04, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

That's wonderful, thanks so much Silverseren! I just looked at both and they look great, though I think fixing the categories got missed - would you be able to do that for me? Thanks again, really appreciate your help. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:49, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Done. SilverserenC 21:59, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 22:49, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

I noticed your request at WP:PAIDHELP and since Silverseren seems to be swamped and sick, I looked at your userified draft and verified it meets the criteria at WP:WEB. Since there is no conflict of interest here for me, I went ahead and created it. I placed an "Under Construction" tag on it so you can work without interruption. Cheers! §FreeRangeFrog 19:35, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

That's great, thanks so much FreeRangeFrog! Since I follow the "bright line" guide of not editing in mainspace where I have a COI, I won't be making any further edits on the article now it's live. Can you remove the "Under Construction" tag? I'll let the editor who reviewed the article before know it's live now. Also, would you be able to add the site's logo to the infobox? I've uploaded it here:
Thanks again, I really appreciate your help with the article, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:25, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Done! §FreeRangeFrog 20:31, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
That was very speedy! The logo looks great, thanks again! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:34, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
You're welcome. It's awesome to see people handling COI issues correctly. Make sure you tell the folks at WP:PAIDHELP that this is done. If you need any more help leave a message on my talk page. §FreeRangeFrog 20:47, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Nitpick

Just a little nitpicky request from me personally. When you write articles or add sections or whatever it may be, could you wikilink in the references the names of the newspaper or other source (if it has a Wikipedia article)? It's just something that I feel is helpful to both readers and editors alike, because it's a simple method of being able to check on the reliability of a source, by seeing the Wikipedia article that describes whether it is a reputable newspaper or whatnot. Also, on whether it is a partisan organization. SilverserenC 20:15, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

That's a really great idea, I hadn't thought of doing that but I can make sure to from now on. Thanks for the prod! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:24, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

As for Guide

Ripe for DYK, don't you think? SilverserenC 20:30, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, that would be great. Due to my COI here, what's the best way for me to be involved with this? I assume I shouldn't nominate it myself but maybe I can help write the hook? 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:27, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, since someone else is reviewing it anyways. What do you suggest is good for the hook? SilverserenC 21:36, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, I'll have to think on that a bit. I'll try to get a suggestion to you tomorrow, if that works? 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 23:03, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
Fine by me. I look forward to hearing back from you. SilverserenC 23:07, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
OK, how about:
"...the company Guide uses text-to-speech and avatar technologies to turn online news and social streams into a TV experience?"
Does that sound alright? 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 19:48, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Sounds a little complicated. How about rewording it as:
"...that the company Guide uses text-to-speech technologies and virtual avatars to turn written online news articles into video episodes?"
Does that sound okay? Simpler is better when you're wanting to get readers to click on it. SilverserenC 04:24, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, that sounds great to me, thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:26, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

DYK nomination created. SilverserenC 03:56, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Potential conflict of interest

Writing "on behalf" of the subject of the article is generally an unwise and inappropriate action.

Hello, 16912 Rhiannon. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

 • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
 • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
 • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
 • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 14:57, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your note here, I think it's important to make sure folks with a potential COI are aware of that. I am very familiar with the COI Guidelines and I aim to operate within them: in this case, I've written a draft, which is in my userspace and I'm asking impartial editors to review it and make use of it as they see fit. I won't directly edit the Ping Fu article and I've disclosed everywhere that I've asked for help that I'm there on behalf of the company. I'm happy to provide a clearer disclosure if you think it's needed, just let me know! Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 15:25, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
Thank you! -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 15:31, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Ping Fu's main accuser, Fang Zhouzi, is a convicted libeler

Hi Rhiannon, when writing the draft for Ping Fu's article, bear in mind that her main accuser, Mr. Fang Zhouzi, was convicted of libel in China in 2006. Moreover, Fang had posted death threats against the judge on his website, publicized his opponents' phone number and address, supplied the Court with a fake address (the sources are here, in English. So Fang's credibility is very dubious at best.--Justicezheng (talk) 19:43, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your note, Justicezheng. This is interesting, but I think to add any more detail about Fang into the article, particularly to note this conviction, would take it off topic and possibly introduce issues of BLP. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 15:19, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Rally.org logo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Rally.org logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:27, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Vocus

Greetings, 16912_Rhiannon!

I looked at the talk page annotations for the draft of Vocus, and will peruse the article next. I'm sorry it took a little while to get back to you. I think I had trouble viewing the draft the first time I tried, but that may have been my problem, not yours (nor Wikipedia's). I will make comments in the article itself, if any are needed, and will denote with 4 x * so that you can do a search for them, i.e. any comment or suggested change will have this **** preceding it. --FeralOink (talk) 13:47, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Bilby (talk) 04:28, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
Hi! It was an impressive article - I found it to be well sourced, well written, and about a subject that is clearly notable. You did have a few primary sources, but I didn't feel that they were used in a controversial manner, and there was at least one case where the source wasn't as blatantly clear about the point it was referencing as would be ideal, but again not to the extent that I thought it was a problem. :) Just something worth mentioning in case anyone does have a concern later. - Bilby (talk) 04:38, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 10:00, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
Note, I accepted the article based on my own rule of thumb: not overly promotional, and would stand a chance at AfD. Reviewing the article, I think notability is a very close call here. I have my own opinions on notability, and I think it's a fine addition to Wikipedia, but I can't speak for others and say what they think. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 12:44, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
Thanks very much for reviewing the article! I agree that the notability is right on the bubble - if you're happy for it to be live, that's great and I am prepared in case anyone nominates it for deletion. Thanks again! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 15:00, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

Blackboard edits

Not a bad section! I had to remove the Washington Smart CEO link because it copied the actual PDF and was hosted rather dubiously. I know for the company it is good to have the link as popular press, but for direct linking on Wikipedia I had remove it. The sizable duplication of copyrighted content (the whole feature) was an issue for me. I tightened some wording and fixed a few word choices and removed a sentence or two. Here is an example of the changes I made. Thanks for announcing your conflict of interest and trying to work within Wikipedia's systems. The article looks better and works better. Some cleaning up to do, but is much improved. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 06:32, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks so much for your help, ChrisGualtieri. I'm fine with the removal of the Washington Smart CEO link, that citation was one I kept from the existing History and I think that Blackboard had uploaded the scan of a print-only publication here to allow for easier verification. Your edits to the text all look great, appreciate the fresh eyes on it to spot where my writing (or that from the previous live version) could do with being tightened. Thanks again! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 12:32, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Glad you got it sorted. Jonpatterns (talk) 15:48, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

I've fixed the name. I will look at the rest in detail. Hard to believe he comes from such a blue-collar background--is there more to his family background? What is his mother's maiden name? Or his wife's?Zigzig20s (talk) 00:05, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Wow, that's great! Thanks, Zigzig20s. Just a couple of things: can you fix his surname in the parentheses in the introduction (Priebus, not Preibus -- that typo happens to me all the time!) and can you update his name under "Personal details" in the infobox, too? I don't know his mother's maiden name or his wife's, though I think that the latter might be easier to find in news sources if you think it relevant. Regarding his family background, not quite sure what you're asking there. If you mean it's interesting he ended up as a party official, as far as I can tell from what I've read there's no political links in his family history, he just became interested in politics as a kid and carried that interest through to his career. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 00:16, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
I mean I do not believe there is this level of social mobility. Is he not a trust fund baby? This may not be disclosed publically, so we may not know for the time being. Either way, I think it would be good to expand the article by explaining his strategies to maximise votes and his fundraising campaigns to appeal to donors (maybe his work with the Humes, the Searles, etc.). Has he written anything?Zigzig20s (talk) 00:28, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
Ah, ok, well, from the sources I've read on his family, he's not a "trust fund baby". Here's a pre-RNC leadership article from a Wisconsin publication, Super Lawyers, which gives the following background on his family: "Priebus is the son of a Greek mother who grew up in Khartoum, Sudan, and a Wisconsin father who was based with the U.S. Army in Ethiopia in the late 1960s. When Priebus was 6, the couple moved to Wisconsin, where the elder Priebus joined an electricians’ union and worked for the Racine Unified School District until his retirement." I do think it would be useful to add more to explain how he achieved his role with the RNC, which is what my proposed additions to the Career section are intended to help with. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 04:21, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I will look at it in more detail. But I'll need to look at each referenced sentence and that's a bit tedious. Btw, do you think you would be able to find more references for his fundraising prowess and voter strategies please? I am not how much is out in the public domain. What do you do for the GOP?Zigzig20s (talk) 04:45, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
What reference do you have for "After graduation from Whitewater, Priebus served as a clerk for the Wisconsin State Assembly Education Committee." please? I prefer citing each sentence.Zigzig20s (talk) 04:48, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
Hey Zigzig20s, I've gone through and made sure each sentence in the drafts posted to the Talk page now has its own citation (and replaced one where the link had expired). For his fundraising and voter strategies, I don't recall seeing much if anything from prior to him becoming RNC chair. I do, however, have some suggestions and references to add about his work with donors and developing new strategies to attract and retain voters during his tenure as chair. I was holding those back for the moment, so as not to overwhelm editors with proposed material. I'm planning on sharing my suggestions on that once the discussion of the Early life and first section of Career has come to a conclusion. Re: what I do for the RNC, I'm not an employee but am working as a consultant to them on Wikipedia. Hope this clarifies. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:01, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
I will look at it in detail this weekend.Zigzig20s (talk) 00:09, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
Has there been much improvement? Sorry I have been busy with the Amy Pascal craziness.Zigzig20s (talk) 20:39, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi Zigzig20s, sorry for not replying sooner, I've been offline a fair bit over the holidays. So far, the suggestions I've made for the Early life section have been incorporated into the article by ADavidB, but as yet, no-one has looked at the suggestions for the Career section. Would be great if you'd take a look at those. In particular, there are a few things that aren't mentioned at all in the article right now but that would provide some background on Priebus' career and political roles before becoming RNC chair. For instance, I'm suggesting adding mention that he was the chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party, a major role that isn't mentioned anywhere in his article. Thanks in advance. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 22:13, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

H+K

How about a nice picture of John W. Hill we can add? Can this pic [1] be released with a creative commons license? It's a PR shot which also appeared in his 1977 NYTimes obit, so surely it could be done if approvals can be obtained. If a company wants to humanise itself, having some pics helps. A pic of Jack Martin (executive) would be nice too.--Milowenthasspoken 19:39, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi there, Milowent! This is definitely a great idea, and I've reached out to the H+K folks to see if they have any photos they can release. I'll let you know what I find out. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 14:53, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

NFL CBA

Sure! I'll look over it and see what I can do. Toa Nidhiki05 13:12, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

Awesome! Thanks in advance, Toa. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 18:35, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
I did notice any issues with it so I've gone ahead and added it. I really appreciate the good faith efforts you and ChrisPond have made by refraining from directly editing, but there's no reason you should have had to wait that long. NFL articles can be high-traffic but some of the peripheral topics like labor or health conditions can really take a long time for people to notice you at. If there's any edits you want to make to NFL articles feel free to ask me to check them. Thanks again for your work!Toa Nidhiki05 19:19, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
You are an absolute star, Toa! Much appreciated. To cheekily add an additional couple of asks: If you think the intro now addresses the tag on the article, would you mind removing that? Also, the final issue that the AfC reviewer had was that they felt like it didn't link out to enough other Wikipedia articles. I think that the following wikilinks could be added to help resolve that:
For 1968 agreement
 • pensions
 • benefits
 • NFL team owners
For 1974 strike
 • federal antitrust laws
 • union dues
For 1977 agreement
 • first refusal
 • arbitration
Does that seem like enough to resolve the tag? Thanks again! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 19:46, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Sorry about the wait, I've had a few issues come up the last few days. I've aded those links and removed the tags. There could always be more links but I think this is a good amount. Toa Nidhiki05 03:38, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
No problem and thanks so much! Really appreciate all your help on this. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 14:54, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

Citrix

Hey Rihiannon, I read over your proposed Corporate Responsibility section and think it is fine. Just make sure it doesn't sound too much like an advertisement: "Citrix offers its employees". Maybe instead state "Citrix encourages its employees to participate in the community" or something like that. More neutral and less direct. JC713 (talk) 01:34, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, JC713! I've made some adjustments based on your feedback, would you mind taking another look and moving this into the live article if everything is ok? Thanks in advance, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 14:33, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
Hey Rhiannon, I made some changes to the draft. Check them out to see if you like them! I made the wording flow a bit better and made it seem less like marketing (even though that is not the original intent). JC713 (talk) 15:45, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
Looks great to me, thanks JC713! If you think it's ready to go, would you mind adding it into the article in place of the current Corporate philanthropy section? I think it could even appear lower down in the article than that section is currently, perhaps below the Products section. What do you think? Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 15:53, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
That positioning change definitely makes sense! I am glad you like my improvements :). Thanks for doing this and being a responsible Wikipedian (respecting COI)! JC713 (talk) 16:00, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
Wonderful and I see you made the edits in the article already, it looks great! Really appreciate your help with reviewing this and taking it live. For transparency, so that others can see this discussion, I'll drop this over onto the Citrix Talk under my request there when I close it in a moment. Thanks so much again, JC713! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 16:17, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
