[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Channel 4. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. IRWolfie- (talk) 18:50, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for making a report on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, it appears that the editor you reported may not have engaged in vandalism, or the user was not sufficiently or appropriately warned. Please note there is a difference between vandalism and unhelpful or misguided edits made in good faith. If the user continues to vandalise after a recent final warning, please re-report it. Thank you. 5 albert square (talk) 18:59, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to attempt to use Wikipedia for propaganda purposes, you may be blocked from editing. Wikipedia is not a medium for promoting a political campaign. JamesBWatson (talk) 19:05, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong Sri Lanka News | Ministry of Defence and Urban Development that is Defence.lk website is a government website and is a reliable site and http://sinhalaya.com is anti terrorist site.

Defence.lk is used as a Ref in other pages including LTTE.{{help}}රණකාමි333 (talk) 06:36, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is your last warning. The next time you disrupt Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Wikipedia is not for advocacy or propaganda. I have reverted your edit to Channel 4 News which said "Sri Lankan defence minsitry state that it is funded by money from the LTTE." That statement is not made in any of the three sources you listed. JohnCD (talk) 09:15, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong It is from the Defense ministry website why cannot I use it.The title itself is LTTE's money talks again [1]%25257E%25257E%25257E%25257E
Please be sure to read the discussion on this issue at WP:RSN. There are legitimate reasons not to include this claim — at least, not in the form you have proposed. Also, please keep in mind that a good-faith dispute over content in a Wikipedia article is not considered "vandalism" and does not justify edit warring. — Richwales 15:53, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

About your Signature

[edit]

Hi රණකාමි333. The encoding of your signature does not appear to be supported in the language packs of a number of browsers. It just comes out as numbers and letters in boxes for me, in Firefox under WinXP. I an not capable to give you advice on this matter. Wikipedia:Help desk might be a place to start about this. --Shirt58 (talk) 14:41, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that this is a problem. Although it is true that Wikipedia's user name policy permits non-English, non-Latin-alphabet user names, you should keep in mind that such user names will be very confusing to the overwhelming majority of Wikipedia editors. I recognized the characters of your name as being Sinhala, but I can't read it and had to ask someone else to interpret it for me. Many editors won't even manage to get that far, and your user name will seem to them like a bunch of random squiggles. And since many people don't have a Sinhala font installed on their computers, they won't even see random squiggles — instead, they may see black boxes, or boxes with tiny Unicode hex codes in them.
Even if you plan to work mostly with articles relating to Sri Lanka and/or Sinhalese topics, you will still need to interact with other editors who are not familiar with this subject — as you've seen already. Although your user name is technically permissible, I would (as a fellow editor) strongly recommend you seriously consider changing your user name to something that uses the Latin alphabet. "Ranakaami333" or "Ranakami333" (which I understand is a transliteration of what you are currently using) would be a reasonable compromise here. If you would like assistance in requesting a change to your user name, let me know and I'll be happy to assist you. — Richwales 16:09, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I plan to work in sinhala Wikipedia with the same username hence do not want to change it.රණකාමි333 (talk) 09:55, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. I will still point out to you that this user name — even though it is permitted on the English Wikipedia — will be extremely confusing to other editors here, who will have absolutely no way of remembering it or of distinguishing it from any other user name written either in Sinhala or most other South Asian languages. If you are determined to use this user name no matter what, I would at least urge you to customize your signature to include a transliteration in the Latin alphabet (see WP:NLS for more info on this). A signature like "රණකාමි333/Ranakaami333", for example, would preserve your chosen user name while still making it accessible to non-Sinhala-speaking editors. — Richwales 16:12, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
