Request Re: Hasidic childbirth customs
[edit]Hi there. Could you please re-list your "proposed deletion" of Hasidic childbirth customs as a normal WP:AFD so that other users can comment on the article. The way you have set it up is unfair and creates a "do or die" situation for this article with no discussions. The article does cite many in-line sources as well as a lengthy bibliography of sources and could use some fixing and wikification, but you should not be setting it up for removal in a way that does not give other users a fair chance on commenting whether to Keep or Delete it. Thanks for your understanding. Sincerely, IZAK (talk) 16:12, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- @IZAK: In my opinion, the gross factual errors show that either the author of the article did not understand the sources cited or that they are completely unreliable (e.g., what scholar would record tum'ah one week after childbirth for a boy and two for a girl as a current Hasidic custom, and then write that the source of this difference is "unexplained"?), but your objection in itself is reason enough to continue at AfD. I won't have a chance before Shabbos, but feel free to contest the PROD in the meanwhile. הסרפד (call me Hasirpad) 16:41, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Hasirpad, you may well be right in all your points, but I am talking about "process" in this case whereby such a lengthy article that cannot be judged "al regel achat" (you obviously have more of an expert's eye) but that is not the case with everyone on WP. That's why it needs to be put on the chopping block the "fair way" at an a regular AfD where there is room to weigh in, yea or nay, unlike now where you put it put up as a "foregone conclusion" when there should be a bit more reasoned and reasonable debate whether the article should "live or die". Shabbat Shalom. Best wishes, IZAK (talk) 20:00, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- @IZAK: I've de-prodded it; I'll take it to AfD when I have time to write a coherent description of the article's problems. הסרפד (call me Hasirpad) 20:06, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you, it is the right thing to do. IZAK (talk) 23:29, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Stone of Losses
[edit]I used to be naive about Jewish things being suggested to deletion in order to draw in more visibility but long ago realized that a) most suggestions were for alterior reasons, not AGF but nonetheless b) suggestion for deletion is not a legitimate way to start a discussion. --Shuki (talk) 22:35, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Shuki: I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you are talking about nor how this relates to what we both wrote at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Stone of Losses. הסרפד (call me Hasirpad) 02:10, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

@Rivalnator: See my signature and the top-right of my userpage: הסרפד is transliterated as Hasirpad, which, in compliance with the guideline you linked, I include in my signature. Hasirpad is a doppelganger account of mine for that reason. הסרפד (call me Hasirpad) 20:21, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
- Also, I am not insulted, but it feels odd being welcomed after more then seven years here. Since you seem to be doing much welcoming and commenting on usernames lately, I suggest that you first check the user's history here, and also search for an example of their signature to see whether your reprimand is even necessary. הסרפד (call me Hasirpad) 20:32, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
Sexism in the family
[edit]There is an ongoing discussion regarding the deletion of Sexism in the family. Your input would greatly be appreciated. Thank you 155blue (talk) 02:07, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- @155blue: Sorry, far out of my field of interest or expertise. הסרפד (call me Hasirpad) 03:56, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
Couchy
[edit]I saw this edit of yours. Even though technically you are right, and Couchy is his city, still in many books in religious literature he is called Moses Couchy. Just thought you might want to know. Debresser (talk) 10:55, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
- @Debresser: I beg to differ. The Library of Congress, the National Library of Israel and even the Jewish Encyclopedia with its idiosyncratic assignment of surnames to historical figures all index the Semag as "Moses ben Jacob of Coucy", not as "Coucy, Moses" etc. Searching "Moses Coucy" on Google brings up mid-19th century results, showing that this is rather antiquated usage. הסרפד (call me Hasirpad) 18:12, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
- Didn't I say specifically "in religious literature"? Debresser (talk) 21:08, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
- @Debresser: In what religious literature is the Semag referred to as "Moses Coucy" or its Hebrew equivalent? Can you please provide an example? "Moshe (ben Ya'akov) mi-Kotsi", the usual form, cannot be interpreted as given name + surname.
- In any case, there can only be one primary name for the purposes of sorting/persondata, so the form used by libraries etc. should be preferred. הסרפד (call me Hasirpad) 22:47, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
- I haven't studied those books in a long time, so I am not ready to give you an example now. I agree, of course, with what we should do on Wikipedia. I just wanted to let you know that there are a few exceptions. Debresser (talk) 12:02, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

Haikin
[edit]Perhaps you could use some of the materials you mentioned in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Azriel Haikin to improve the article. Even a minor improvement could make the difference and save the article from a second deletion attempt in the future. Debresser (talk) 09:24, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
I have offered a suggestion on the talk page of how best to solve this issue. Please feel free to offer any input on the matter. Thank you for your civility.DaltonCastle (talk) 03:36, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
- DaltonCastle: Thank you, I've replied there. הסרפד (call me Hasirpad) 16:21, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
Macroscelides flavicaudatus
[edit]Thanks!!! The authority is the first who described the name flavicaudatus. Regards. Burmeister (talk) 22:06, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
I am off in search of a friendly admin to close the above. Could you find the time to add the appropriate content to the other article? Lemme know when you have and I will then redirect it assuming an admin has closed the AfD. Thanks! John from Idegon (talk) 18:36, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
- John from Idegon: I do not think there is any properly sourced information at Ohev Shalom Talmud Torah Congregation of Olney that is not yet mentioned at National Synagogue#History (end of first paragraph), so no merge is necessary and a redirect is sufficient. הסרפד (call me Hasirpad) 18:41, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
- Ok thanks. I have asked an admin to close it, and I will redirect it as soon as he does. John from Idegon (talk) 18:46, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
Inevitability thesis
[edit]Just thought that I'd let you, as a participant, know that based upon the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Inevitability thesis, I have somewhat boldly turned Inevitability thesis into a disambiguation page. See also Talk:Inevitability thesis. --Bejnar (talk) 20:27, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your information in the deletion discussion, could you please add those links to the Amram Taub article in appropriate places? As of now, it's essentially an unsourced WP:BIO, and we're likely to be having another deletion discussion if that doesn't get fixed. I can't read Hebrew, so I'm not the person to make the edits. XeroxKleenex (talk) 02:11, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
- XeroxKleenex: There isn't that much to add—I'll get around to it when I have a chance. הסרפד (call me Hasirpad) 18:32, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
- XeroxKleenex: Partially done: I've rewritten and sourced his biography up to the Holocaust. הסרפד (call me Hasirpad) 20:15, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
