That's great thanks, i changed the blue to cyan to get it to work properly and i'm just going to fit it =] Thanks Jenova20 (talk) 16:02, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Problem, it won't fit in the signature bar. Is it possible to shorten the code or is there another way around this? Thanks Jenova20 (talk) 16:25, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

I've removed the redundant "s and 3 zeros... so that's down to 249. It should now just fit. Worm 16:32, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

If i put any of those signatures in they don't work and if i tick the box underneath i get this "Invalid raw signature. Check HTML tags." message. What am i doing wrong here? Thanks Jenova20 (talk) 10:21, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

It looks like the system doesn't like the removal of the "s. So, I've put them back I've tested it and it works fine :) Worm 11:00, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. The Daily Mail sources are going okay, could be better but i'm struggling for time to hunt them down. Jenova20 16:11, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Give your opinion if you like, i could do with the constructive criticism. Special:PrefixIndex/User:Jenova20/ Thanks Jenova20 16:13, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

I've got to say, your original propsals offend my eyes. Also, they're not good for anyone with sight difficulties.

I think the closest we can get whilst keeping within colour compliance is

From there, we can work on the signature. perhaps make it a bit more more noticeable and ignoreable at the same time.

Maybe add a link to your talk page

Hey, it's a start ;) Let me know what you think.

Too distracting

[edit]

 Adam mugliston  Talk

A distracting alternative...

Specifically, I've made it smaller, and used less of the distracting colour.

Rcsprinter

[edit]

From the signatures I've seen you liking, it seems you like an asthetic font, with a clear signature. So let me know if you like any of these.

First thoughts?

Hmm, perhaps. Try a green or something...

Spooky green?

I like this one Rcsprinter123.
Excellent choice sir. all you need to do to use it is copy the code (not including the *) into your signature box under "My Preferences" at the top of the screen. Make sure the "Treat as Wiki Markup" box is ticked, and save. WormTT · (talk) 11:20, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

In this one the "123" links to contributions.

It's a good one, but your signature should not be over 250 chars long - and that's sitting at 450. (per WP:SIG) :)

Cyberpower678

[edit]

My current signature is —cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,375,737). The complaints I have been getting is that the end result is big and distracting. I'm trying to place a superscripted text directly above a subscripted text. I know it's possible somehow to have superscript and subscript at the same time. I would like to maintain the status indicator in my signature. Got any suggestions?—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,375,737) 20:57, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

Well, subscript text directly below superscript requires a little Jiggery pokery - but you can do it like this
--Cyberpower678 UpDown
The margin-left should be the size of the sup. I've got some other suggestions to think about though, colours that are less bold, not having styling on your time/date, dropping the total WP edits? WormTT · (talk) 09:30, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Exactly what I wanted. What colors of mine could down in my status indicator?—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,471,831) 09:58, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Well, how about having "Down" as status, and then link that through to your status indicator? Anyone interested could click through. The problem with status indicators is that they don't work very well with WP caching... WormTT · (talk) 10:01, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
I'm talking about the colors. They indicate my status. Red means offline, gold means online, green means huggling and so forth.—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,473,474) 10:09, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
I know you are. I'm suggesting that the colour changing isn't the best way to do it. Most people find it difficult to understand how you can be "offline" and posting. How about this, create your signature as a template, which you can subst (not tranclude) when you place it. That way, you can change the "down" word to be your status, online, huggling, offline etc, which changes colour and links through to User:Cyberpower678/SignatureColorKey? It'd look something like
--Cyberpower678 UpHuggling
--Cyberpower678 UpAround
--Cyberpower678 UpUnavailable
I chose blue instead of gold, because it's easier to read against white. WormTT · (talk) 10:15, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Any other colors. See User:Cyberpower678/SignatureColorKey.—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,477,908) 10:49, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Well, you could combine this page with this page, make sure that the colours are compliant against a white background - which most non-offensive colours are. For example, maroon is #800000 and compliant, but gold is #FFD700 and isn't. I know you're interested in programming, making your code work for every user is the goal of every programmer - so if you can get a set of colours which are compliant for people with poor sight, you'll be doing very well. The hardest thing you'll find is keeping all the code below the 255 limit. WormTT · (talk) 10:59, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Is gold the only thing that needs to be toned down from the colors I use?—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,481,907) 11:22, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

According to the sites I suggested, gold and orange are problematic. Green, Red and Gray are ok, but not perfect. Brown and black are very good. I'd also suggest using a base colour (ie black or some other boring colour) for the majority of your sig, and no more than 2 other colours in any one version of your sig, as that reduces the clashing.
--Cyberpower TalkAway
In other words, the above would be well received by the community and at 239 chars, is within limits. WormTT · (talk) 11:38, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Give me some time to think about this. I may be able to come with a similar alternative that community may be ok to.—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,486,242) 11:56, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Sure. I'm here if you want a second opinion. WormTT · (talk) 11:58, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Is this color a satisfactory replacement tothis color?cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,487,221) 12:04, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
How about this color? as compared to this?cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,487,554) 12:07, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
or this?cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,488,467) 12:14, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
I'm 30 and have near perfect eyesight and a good monitor and both those colours are difficult to read. Imagine if I was older (eyesight naturally adds a tinge of yellow as age progresses), had poor eyesight or a black and white monitor. Not good. You really want a colour difference of more than 500 to be compliant - this site helps. Drag the background colour to white, then you can put in different HTML colour codes to get back the responses. WormTT · (talk) 12:17, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
I think I may remove gold entirely and replace it with orange since I am rarely using that status. If I eliminated that color would there be any objections with the remaining colors.—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,490,689) 12:33, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
As I mentioned above, orange suffers from the same problems. Would you consider a completely new colour such as teal, Maroon, blueviolet, blue or Olive?
If you must keep the orange and gold spectrum though, what about darkgoldenrod, darkorange, Chocolate or orangered WormTT · (talk) 12:44, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
gold will be olive and orange will be darkorange.—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,492,403) 12:48, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

That's much close to compliant... Now you just need to design a sig that you like. WormTT · (talk) 12:51, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

How about —cyberpower ChatOffline 13:02, 15 March 2012 (UTC)?
If you are going to include formatting in the date, people will include it in your count - making it 342 chars (with spaces which DO count). even without the date itself you've got 312 chars, which is too long. If you drop the date formatting all together, you get down to 276... which is still too hight, but at least we're getting somewhere. Let me think. WormTT · (talk) 13:13, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
How about —cyberpower ChatOffline?—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,497,457) 13:31, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

And we have a winner! 237 characters, which will allow you a little leeway in the text that you use for the status. Are you happy with making a template that you can subst in? WormTT · (talk) 13:47, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
You should look at my current template. It has about 350 characters and this new one will probably have 600 once I'm don e with it but the end result will be amazing.—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,500,405) 13:52, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Ah, I see what you're doing. Well, good luck, let me know if you need anything. WormTT · (talk) 13:55, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
(edit conflict)First I'm going to have to perform some modifications to my status changer to work with the new colors. Then I have to add a bunch of parsers to my signature.—cyberpower (Chat)(WP Edits: 522,500,995) 13:56, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

I'm impressed too. I'm going offline for now but I have 1 more mod to make to the original template.—cyberpower ChatOffline 14:42, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Can I make a single suggested change? If you've got enough space, you could make the "chat" bold, it won't move when you post to your own page. It would mean fiddling a little bit with the margin-left, so that you have it lined up properly. WormTT · (talk) 16:04, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Could you clarify why you want me to bold it?—cyberpower ChatOffline 16:07, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
By default, I think, links don't self redirect and the software makes it bold. If I link to User:Worm That Turned/Sig Test - it should be bold. This means that when you post on your own page, the "chat" link becomes bold and throws the "status" text out by a good 4-5 pixels. It doesn't matter, but if you want a constant sig that doesn't change on your own talk page, the trick is to make it bold from the get-go and then it just stops being a link. WormTT · (talk) 16:12, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
That little throw off doesn't bother me. If it is a bother to anybody else, I will add the bold.—cyberpower ChatOffline 16:24, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
You can cope with 4-5 pixels out?!? Are you a monster? Hey, it's your sig... It would just get up my nose. Anyway, if it ever bothers you, you now know how to fix it. And if you're ever thinking of a redesign, you know where to find me. WormTT · (talk) 16:27, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. :D—cyberpower ChatOffline 16:34, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Remember when I was trying to make an automated signature changer according to holidays? I finally got it to work.—cyberpower ChatOffline 17:52, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Well done! all I remember was that it was a pain in the rear and not worth the effort, but glad you got there. WormTT · (talk) 08:15, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
I overlooked a simple possibility. I also fully automated my status changer as well, to cut down on my unnecessary edit count. I can override my status manually without having to replace the automated code. You can view the status changer here, here, and here. Be sure to look at its source as well. I must say I am impressed with myself (no intentions of bragging).—cyberpower ChatPartially online possibly on a phone 10:09, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
Just looking at that status... it's too long, loses a lot of the elegance. Perhaps best to keep the status to 2 words max? WormTT · (talk) 12:49, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
How about Limited Access?—cyberpower ChatOnline 12:52, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
Perfect! Also your Online during absence is mis-spelt I think... would suggest "Temporarily online" WormTT · (talk) 12:54, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
It's spelled correctly but I'll change. My signature is still undergoing a few modifications before completely finished.—cyberpower ChatOnline 12:57, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit]

If you're going to change the word "chat" over and over and over... sort out your sub and supers :P I spent ages aligning them for the word "chat"... and other words screw it up. WormTT · (talk) 08:54, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Are some words screwing it up, I hadn't noticed, I did have it modify the margins for it. If I see any screwups I will fix it.—cyberpower CommunicateOffline 12:58, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
Looking better now. I think you might be going slightly over the top with the amount it's changing, but hey, that's your choice. Careful not to go over the 255! WormTT · (talk) 10:33, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
Actually, it's implemented from User:Scottywong/sig I had to make a marginal switch case system for it as well.—cyberpower ConfessLimited Access 11:04, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
I'm sure it is. However, the sig was elegant and tidy when we finished, with perfectly aligned, constant sizes. Your changes mean that it move around, meaning it loses the elegance. It doesn't matter, it's now a perfectly reasonable, non-bombastic sig... it's just a pity that the elegance is gone. WormTT · (talk) 11:19, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
I've been thinking the same thing and I think I'm going to remove that. It's just not working.—cyberpower ConfabulateLimited Access 12:10, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Back to my signature

[edit]

Moved from User talk:Worm That Turned Some of the char counts are still exceeding 255 so I would appreciate suggestions on shortening it more. Here are a list of signatures that get used throughout the year:

cyberpower ChatOnline 11:59, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

It does look like the biggest problems happen when you've got two colours in your username - the obvious solution is to keep one colour for "cyberpower" in all cases, I see you've got a few minor alignment issues on some of those sigs too. WormTT(talk) 09:46, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
There's got to be some way to shorten it. The font names are so huge. If I had a hex equivalent to it, the size would go down drastically.—cyberpower ChatOffline 09:59, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
Well, fonts are a difficult one. In a website, if you want to show a specific font, you upload it and reference it as part of the css, so you don't have to worry about the end user having it on installed for that browser. And as there are pretty much infinite fonts, hexing them doesn't make sense. (unlike for colour where each numeric pair matches Red green or blue). For example, I don't see Neuropol or arnprior in your current sig, just a generic Times font. I personally try not to use different fonts too much for precisely that reason. WormTT(talk) 10:07, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
I meant hexing the font colors. As for the fonts, I didn't know systems didn't support it until I started using other PCs. Which is why I have a link to the fonts right beneath my signature on my talk page.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 10:23, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
Well, I used this site, which has hex codes for all the named colours. That might be helpful! I did notice you had a link to your fonts... WormTT(talk) 10:33, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
You mention my fonts being visible if installed in the CSS. I wonder if it can be sneaked into Common.cssor whatever the location is that universally changes the CSS for everybody.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 11:24, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
If those can be converted to 3 digit hex, everything will fit perfectly.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 11:26, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
You could approximate the colours with 3 digit hex, but it's not going to be perfect. As for the CSS change, it's not a simple change. You need to upload the fonts (not sure if they're free or not) in both tff and eot formats, then you have to reference them in the CSS. I really don't think the community would be happy with adding fonts in just for your signature! WormTT(talk) 11:43, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
I think these hex codes can help me out. Darkorange vs. 7 digit code. That's three characters shorter. I can cut off 12 characters from my sig.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 17:58, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
BTW, I don't see any alignment issues. It might depend on the browser you use. You can go ahead and fix the sample previous with char count next to them so I can what's changed.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 18:00, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Mr little irish   talkcontrib

Could it be possible to have the same sig as I have now, but with a copyright 'C' symbol for my contribs link? No sub or alignment? MrLittleIrish(talk) 14:41, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

It'll be difficult. You're currently at 202, so we only have 48 to play with. Give me two ticks... WormTT · (talk) 14:53, 19 April 2012 (UTC)~

I took spaces out of the second one, and re-added colours. It doesn't seem to like short code white

Well, you should be able to use the second one either way if you liked it, or indeed the first (which is just yours with an append). they're both in the limits. I'm not keen on using the copyright symbol though, so I thought it better to cut it down so you can change it. WormTT · (talk) 15:08, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
@WTT you know that you can cheat the system by creating a redirect from (say) User:Mr little irish/C to Special:Contributions/User:Mr little irish... ^^ mabdul 12:30, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Right... I'm going to need some ideas here. Are there any sigs you like, what are you aiming for? WormTT(talk) 12:09, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm pretty bad at designs but there are signs which I like a lot, especially yours is my favorite around (As per the past, Scottywong's previous sign is on top). I also liked the idea for Hollow AG above with colour blue though. I am actually aiming to make the abbreviation of my username "TSU" something good (like SW had) or similar. Cheers! — TheSpecialUser (TSU) 13:34, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Some thoughts then?

Wow! Thanks WTT, I loved 2 of them. 1 last thing that is there any variations possible in my current sign (— TheSpecialUser (TSU)) or my previous version (→TSU tp*) which I most probably will use again? As I'd like an rather clear and bold sign. — TheSpecialUser (TSU) 10:38, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
