From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to WikiProject women of psychology. Several Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of women of psychology and the organization of information and articles on this topic. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.

Goals

[edit]
  • This project's goal is to create articles about women who have contributed significantly to the field of Psychology. At this time, there are relatively few articles about eminent women psychologists on Wikipedia. This project seeks to remedy this situation. Project creator is currently seeking support from women's psychological organizations for their help and support for this project. The first stage of this project will involve creating a list of notable women who have contributed to the field of psychology. As those accumulate, the next task with be to create articles with relevant, well-organized information about their contributions and their histories.

Scope

[edit]

Criteria for Inclusion

[edit]

Women nominated for inclusion in Wikipedia should meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for academics which are similar to the requirements for Fellow Status in The American Psychological Association (APA)[1]. The APA requirements for Fellow vary somewhat by APA division.[2] If a woman is an APA Fellow, she most likely meets the criteria for inclusion in this project. Many women psychologists may meet the criteria for Fellow status but may not have been nominated or applied for the honor. In that case the Wikipedia and APA Fellow standards can be consulted. In all cases, writers should make a clear case for the woman's eligibility for inclusion as an eminent woman psychologist in the section called "Summary of significant contributions to the field of psychology." Wikipedia also has special guidelines for writing biographies of living persons that serve as a guideline to appropriate content.

Helpful Hints

[edit]

* Remember to save your work!

* If your page is deleted... Because so many people post so much material on Wikipedia, there is a need to continually prune the entries. Sometime the people doing the pruning get a bit deletion happy, delete a page without reviewing it carefully enough, or misunderstand an editor's intent. In that case, contact the person deleting the article, hear them out, and correct the aspects of the article that were problematic (or argue your case). As long as you can demonstrate that your article meets the requirements, you should be able to get it to stick. In rare cases, you may need to contact an "administrator" but most of the time, consulting the deleting editor is all that is required.
