I see you have started to cleanup this article. Although I think the subject of the article is unencyclopedic (in any form whatever), here's a suggestion: Rather than do work that will likely be deleted by the AFD, you may wish to wait until the article is deleted, and then start over with a new article. That way your work won't get wasted. Cheers ⟳ausa کui × 05:42, 5 Janurary 2006 (UTC-5)

1951 Las Vegas pictures in need of a home
[edit]Judging from your username as well as your contributions, you might be just the person to talk to... I've been archiving family photos recently and discovered several interesting black and white pictures taken in Las Vegas in (most likely) 1951. These are of the Westerner Gambling House and Saloon, the Silver Slipper Saloon (apparently the original that prevented the later Silver Slipper from initially using that name), the Vegas Vic sign atop the Pioneer Club, and an oversized covered wagon emblazoned on its side with "ON TO THE GOLD RUSH" (I'm unsure if this last one was a landmark of any kind). Beyond the obvious History of Las Vegas, any suggestions as to where these might be appropriately placed? I am unfamiliar with the city both as a place and as a topic. Casino Stubs
[edit]You don't think Harrah's Las Vegas is a stub? It does not list barely any history, nothing about the attractions. Plus no picture; Harrah's is major casino and it deserves more information. I work for Harrah's Entertainment so I will expand it, but it will take time and I would like to keep it as a stub until it is done justice. I did propose a similar stub already in the stub sorting no one said anything so I created this. If the stub sorting project has a problem with it they will do something. By all means please raise it to the stub sorting project, but you would just be waisting time. --Ben 17:28, 22 Janurary 2006 (UTC-5)
- Well there are a lot of pages out there that are not stubs that are marked then. Because what most people follow is not only the wording you quoted but also, "Another way to define a stub is an article so incomplete that an editor who knows little or nothing about the topic could improve its content after a superficial internet search or a few minutes in a reference library." This article could be improved by just going to Harrah's website. Maybe add some information on some of the attractions, or search and add some history, there is a lot of history on the property. --Ben 18:54, 22 Janurary 2006 (UTC-5)
- Just so I can get an idea, do you consider O'Sheas Casino a stub? --Ben 11:31, 23 Janurary 2006 (UTC-5)

[edit]Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia 19:06, 28 Janurary 2006 (UTC-5)

North American airline stubs
[edit]It was part of an attempt to get the * airline stubs categories to agree on using either <noun> airline stubs or <adjective> airline stubs. It looks like whoever ended the inconclusive discussion didn't bother to remove the sfd-c tags from the categories. Unless you want to revisit the matter at this time, just go ahead remove that tag from them. Caerwine Caerwhine 23:28, 28 Janurary 2006 (UTC-5)
re Redlinked discussion closing
[edit]Hiyas Vegaswikian. Yes, it looks like Tomf688 did indeed rename the category before consensus was determined, which I am going to go ask him about once I finish this message. I would say at this point hold off on the abbreviation expansion discussion until we can determine if there are objections to his recat, even though I noticed that all of the subcats are still marked with their CFR templates by you. All he did was upmerge the by state to Members of the US House of Representatives. FWIW, the discussion would have been judged a no consensus from the looks of it...but that still doesn't mean he can just go acting unilaterally. --Syrthiss 09:27, 6 February 2006 (UTC-5)
How about it now, it was ok the version you changed it to. But it looked weird on some of the text. --Ben 11:52, 9 February 2006 (UTC-5)
Category renames for Members of the United States House of Representatives
[edit]Thank you very much for all your hard work on catching the U.S. vs. United States names in categories. Please be sure that no category becomes "United States Representative from foo" when it should be "Member of the United States House of Representatives from foo".
- For example, Dennis Hastert is not a "United States Representative." He is a "Member of the United States House of Representatives."
- On the other hand, Rob Portman is a "United States Representative" because he represents the United States in Trade negotiations. (Just to make things a little more confusing, Portman used to be a Member of the United States House of Representatives from Ohio.)

Speedy deletion
[edit]An interesting side note as to proper naming for some categories related to Parks and Wilderness areas is ongoing at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Protected areas, Standard format for protected area category names. I suggest that all protected areas by designated worldwide by the title of the protected area folled by "of" and then the name of the country. Likewise, for subcategories, eg: National Forests of Montana Before we speedy the wilderness category, lets all work on trying to identify what is the best naming system. Just a thought.--MONGO 22:03, 16 February 2006 (UTC-5)
Hi, not trying to be a jerk or anything...I personally prefer that the subject of the category be first followed by the location. Do you know the best way to tag all these areas so that we reduce ambiguity and ensure others see what's going on?--MONGO 22:53, 16 February 2006 (UTC-5)
Nevermind...see you already did it...good job.--MONGO 22:58, 16 February 2006 (UTC-5)
AirTran Airways
[edit]Agree it may not be written in the best way. However, technicalities aside, they changed their name after the crash because of the PR disaster, so we should find a way to reflect that. The article has been massaged to make it sound like a name change after a regular merger whereas the news coverage and executives at the time presented it clearly as the opposite -- a name change facilitated by a merger. Dbchip 01:19, 22 February 2006 (UTC-5)
- Great work, thanks! Also, I reverted a chance by an anonymous user trying to massage away the airline's troubled history. I like your approach but regularly notice people trying to wash the past away for whatever reason. Dbchip 12:59, 22 February 2006 (UTC-5)
RE:IATA codes
[edit]Can you check to see that the code is either a redriect to the airline or an entry in the dab article when you add a new one? Vegaswikian 02:53, 22 February 2006 (UTC-5)
- Sure, the ones I added seem to have redirects already or have entries in disambig pages. (Except SS which redirects to the Nazi terror group), the disambig is at SS (disambiguation)). Also I removed Horizon Air from 8C, I don't know why it was listed there if they have code QX. Sjakkalle (Check!) 02:58, 22 February 2006 (UTC-5)
- [1] is a good source if you want to find missing ones. Select airline code and then in the lower set of boxes enter a letter or number. Using the historic codes there it shows Air Horizon was asigned 8C so maybe someone got confused. 03:04, 22 February 2006 (UTC-5)
Speedy Deletion of Asahi Kasei
[edit]Hi thanks for speedy deleting Asahi Kasei, however the article is being recreated. I have PROD'D the article in the time being, but if you have a chance maybe look at it (it was rewritten a little) and the plea in the creators edit summary made me prod instead of re speeding it for being a recreation of a deleted article. If infact upon review you feel it was rightfully speedy deleted, please delete under G4, but the decision is yours as stated in the description for G4 speedy deletion. subst:Biography
[edit]I see you deleted the Julius Lester article while I was creating it. I've put it back now -- with content! -- but just so you know, WikiProject Biography's instructions for creating a new biography are explicitly to Add {{subst:Biography}} into your article page and save, and edit from there. So if you see a new template and don't give it an hour or two, that's probably what's happening. Now, admittedly that initial work could happen in a user space sandbox, but I was following the instructions of the Wikiproject in charge of the name space. If you find the method confusing, perhaps you should take it up with them and persuade them to change their doc? Thanks. Deborah-jl Talk 22:09, 2 March 2006 (UTC-5)
- I didn't know about the major edit template -- that's cool, thanks! And in the future I'll user my user space, but it would be great if they change the instructions. Deborah-jl Talk 22:19, 2 March 2006 (UTC-5)
RE: OMGWTFPOLARBEAR
[edit]The article/redirect should have been speedy-deleted initially. It is a vanity/fan-made neologism, which is specifically contrary to "Avoid neologisms". Further the consensus of the actual editors on Lost (TV series) is that the material was not appropriate there; all mention of "OMGWTFPOLARBEAR" has been removed-- there is no "merged" content to be redirected towards (nor will there ever be.) The article is the only contribution from a one-day user. None of those who voted on the AfD had ever edited any of the LOST articles, nor were any of the regular editors aware of the AfD-- thus the single day of voting on that AfD did not demonstrate any actual consensus. It would be a waste of time to RfD such silliness; it will be deleted. --LeflymanTalk 00:40, 3 March 2006 (UTC-5)

The Pee Tanks
[edit]why did you delete my Pee Tanks Entry?
Hi, I saw a comment from you on this new user's talk page, but i could not find where the user removed a speedy deletion tag from any page, the history shows editing only one article. What page was it? (That article is a bit questionable, but I did some digging, it might be notable enough to pass muster... I added the ref she added but didn't format very well, plus more...) I watch talk pages, you can reply here. Thanks and happy editing! ++Lar: t/c 22:07, 18 March 2006 (UTC-5)
- The speedy was removed on The white lady article. Vegaswikian 01:09, 19 March 2006 (UTC-5)
- Here is the user's contribution history: [2] and I am not seeing any edits at all against The white lady. In fact every edit I see is against Annie's road (an article I saw when doing a bit of RCP and subsequently took an interest in which is why I was looking at this editor's contributions and talk page in the first place)... Are you sure it was this editor? I thought contribution history would show all edits, even against articles that were speedy deleted, but I could be confused. My concern here is because of WP:BITE... when I suggested to this newbie that THAT article needed sourcing, they complied, and gave a good enough source that the article now I think passes notability, suggesting they mean well... that message, if invalid, might be a bit offputting. Thanks for straightening me out about this if I'm confused! Also, could you userify the speedied article to my userspace, I want to see if it's actually saveable... thanks for that too ++Lar: t/c 01:44, 19 March 2006 (UTC-5)
- History for deleted articles does not show in the users contributions from the little I know. The article was basically a really stripped down verison of [3]. Vegaswikian 01:52, 19 March 2006 (UTC-5)
- So it was a stub about a ghost story... That isn't necessarily a reason to speedy it, is it? You categorised it as "nonsense" but I'm not sure I agree with that categorisation being friendly or accurate. If the story is sourced enough (and I do find some other hits for it via Google: [4]) it's (possibly) notable as a story (just like this user's other contribution might be), regardless of the existance of ghosts. There is a Category:Weird NJ as you may or may not know. (note I do NOT believe in ghosts and have little interest in them myself but can see why notorious enough legends are notable enough for inclusion here...) So I think maybe this one should go through WP:PROD or even WP:AfD ++Lar: t/c 01:59, 19 March 2006 (UTC-5)

Speedy versus PROD
[edit]You were, I think, correct to change my tag from speedy, for which change I thank you. I suppose I concluded that since non-notable bios can be speedied (although I prefer to take them to AfD), so might non-notable building pages; this, though, as you noted, was more an advertising page. In any case, your change reminded me to use the PROD tag more often; I like the ideas behind its creation and I should do what I can to support its continued presence and expanded use. Robber Barons prod
[edit]I am removing the prod pending discussion. The band's album can be bought from a number of major vendors, and the band itself will soon release a second album. Granted, the now-defunct article Rockefeller and the Robber Barons was NN, but The Robber Barons (band) have been reviewed in at least one publication (Earwax), which means that one magazine however small felt they were notable enough to present to their readers. Taken with the fact that vendors like tower records feel like the album is notable enough to keep in its inventory, I think this band is significant enough to merit a wikipedia stub. [edit]I'm sorry that I didn't write enough about Bob Olson to make it into a good article. I saw that the page had been requested for over a year, and I attempted to begin fulfilling that request by writing what I could find. Please note that, according to the deletion log page and request page, my stub was the closest to the request's notes. I would also like to make it known that I am not a newcomer to Wikipedia. I have been around Wikipedia longer than my account has been, and I have much more experience than the average user. I am also fully aware of user pages and their function, and if the information under "Bob Olson" was about me, I would have put it on my user page. Sorry again for writing about this apparently non-notable subject. Paradoxsociety 22:55, 22 March 2006 (UTC-5)

speedy deletion: Michael Kight
[edit]The article on Michael Kight was not covered under Article 7 of the Speedy Deletion Critera, as Mr. Kight holds the important position of Principal of A.H. Hill Middle School. Additionally, you deleted the article a mere hour after the speedy deletion tag was added; as stated in the speedy deletion critera, "The word "speedy" in this context refers to the quickness of the decision making process and not the length of time elapsed since article creation." I wish to inform you that I do plan to restore the article, and I feel you should go through the proper channels if you wish to remove it, instead of simply removing it then and there. » K i G O E | talk 20:47, 4 April 2006 (UTC-4)
Well, its true: I made a mistake, the article doesn't belong on Wikipedia, and Wikipedia users made that clear on the AfD page. However, in the democratic spirit of Wikipedia, that is the proper way to remove an article -- disussing it in a civil manner and voting. In my opinion, your simply deleting it -- wether justified or not -- was too rash an action. Again, I could be wrong, but thats how I felt about the occurences. » K i G O E | talk 22:27, 4 April 2006 (UTC-4)
Normally, except for the fact that I included the {{hangon}} tag, and, while writing the response, the entire article was deleted. When you deleted the article, you stated that "no reason provided for keeping article. Clearly meets A7" whereas I included the {{hangon}} tag, which tells you that a reason is comming. Plus, giving less than an hour for a reason is, in my opinion, hardly sufficient. » K i G O E | talk 22:38, 4 April 2006 (UTC-4)
Then why did you state that "no reason was given", when, as you said, this is not the case? Shouldn't the article have been put up as an AFD, and voted on, instead of one person (you) deleting it? I'm not fully familiar with Wikipedia's policy, so I may obviously be wrong, but I was always under the impression that thats how it works. » K i G O E | talk 22:47, 4 April 2006 (UTC-4)
Well, hopefully it won't happen again (with me) as this was a sort of learning experience. I, honestly, feel that it could have been better handled, but I acknowledge that it wouldn't have to be handled if I had written an appropriate article in the first place. Despite what I might feel about what went down, I have to thank you for so activly contributing to this great resource and dealing with n00bs like me. » K i G O E | talk 22:58, 4 April 2006 (UTC-4)

[edit]How does the article look now? For the record, the closing admin should look at the current article and the one that was there for the delete votes. Th reasons used for many of the early votes are, in my opinion, no longer valid. My guess is that in doing this, the result will be keep or at worst no consensus which results in keping the article. Vegaswikian 19:08, 6 April 2006 (UTC-4)

[edit]Please do not remove articles being written until checking with the author --Larsie 13:08, 13 April 2006 (UTC-4)
- I beleive you were too hasty in your deletion of the article, it was too "speedy". I was able to get the picture right and before i was finished adding text it was gone. I wouldn't even have had time to add hangon. You just as easily could have made the article a stub for the maentime and then come back. I mean look at my user page I'm certainly not in the habit of creating an article as just a picture. --Larsie 13:17, 13 April 2006 (UTC-4)
- please explain which criteria the article clearly fell under. --Larsie 13:35, 13 April 2006 (UTC-4)
- that is completely false - there was a picture there, not to mention if you did the proper research (or just clicked what links here) you would see that hea is very notable and the article for a disease named after him is actually a featured article. don't be rediculous. and yes i made similar pages and was in the middle of doing a redirect. speedy deletion is meant to be an efficient way of monitering new article production and not hindering of the production of new articles.
- I am sure you are familiar with this phrase "Administrators, remember to check if anything links here, the page history (last edit) and any revisions of CSD before deletion." as it is plastered to the speedy deletion announcement. The article is finished so if you would be so kind as to remove the template... thank you. --Larsie 14:17, 13 April 2006 (UTC-4)

Nicolas Augustin Metoyer
[edit]If I may ask, what made you decide to delete the article for Nicolas Metoyer? I know it was just a stub, but I don't think it merited deletion. I'm only a little curious as to why you didn't feel it was necessary to at least tag the article or initiate a discussion about it. Metoyer may be non-notable to you, but he was a prominent figure in the developement of a self-sufficient colored community in Louisiana. I will admit that Louisiana history is a bit of a specific interest, but simply because you are not familiar with it does not give you the right to remove it from an encyclopedia. You may want to look at Marie Thérèse Metoyer, his mother, as well, but would you be kind enough not to delete that article (if you, as i suspect, believe it to be lacking in merit) until you have given those of us who care an opportunity to argue our case?Dlayiga 18:05, 17 April 2006 (UTC-4)
- I had tried to assert his notability in the talkpage, as I hadn't yet had time to really write the page. He was the financer and commissioner of the first catholic church in the south that was made specifically for colored people. In fact, the floor was reserved for blacks and the balcony was for whites.I'll write the article first, and thne put it up, instead of using a placeholder, and I'll make sure to include notability. thanks.Dlayiga 01:13, 18 April 2006 (UTC-4)
Hi Vegaswikian! Thanks for your message on my talk page to let me know about the changes you made. Actually, when I did the revert, I did not make an effort to retain the new link to United States because I thought it was redundant; being as the article states it was a Nevada-based company. However, I don't think it hurts either way. Regarding the Fortune 1000 category, I reverted it because I thought (perhaps wrongly so) that the category would not include former Fortune 1000 companies such as Caesars Entertainment. In any event, it was nice to hear from you. I've noticed your contributions many times; you and I seem to work on many of the same articles. See you around! Regards, Accurizer 16:40, 18 April 2006 (UTC-4)
Hi - I moved the proposed name change from CFD to SFD where it belongs. (and yes, there's a very good reason why these don't have templates - they're simply parent categories for individual states within the four regions. I agree, BTW - when the categories were made there was a good reason for using US rather than united States, but it's no longer relevant so a name-change is a good idea. I've added the three other similar categories to the nom. Grutness...wha? 02:09, 19 April 2006 (UTC-4)

Ok but did you take time to actually read what I said in the discussion before arbitrarily deleting the article? J. H. Brennan
[edit]I have noticed that you deleted the page J. H. Brennan, as soon as I created it, even though I noted in my edit summery that there was more to come. I find this kind of over zealous deletion hinders Wikipedia and simply wastes time. If you had taken a moment to view my user page you would have found that I am a long time member of the community here and would not add something without consideration. Beyond this a simple search for JH Brennan on Google reveals that he has written more than fifty books including both fiction and non-fiction, which have been translated into as many languages and have been very influential. This is clearly notable. I am simply in a position now where I will have to start the page again, but I now have a deletion against my history. Please try to discuss before acting in this way in future. Thank you. Solar 04:47, 25 April 2006 (UTC-4)
I also note from comments above that I am not the first to have reservations about your over zealous use of deletion privileges. - Solar 04:52, 25 April 2006 (UTC-4)
Not only is it an expected misspelling. It's the correct spelling! We want to move the article from Merlefest to MerleFest and I can't do that until the namespace is clear. Schnack Restaurant
[edit]Question, why was the Schnack page deleted, I thought that there was a vote and it was voted that that page be retained?
- I'm replying here to an anon user. This article was deleted by another admin with the reason of 'non-notable local restaurant, founded 2003'. It appears to have been listed on proposed deletion for the required 5 days. I saw no record of an AfD nomination which is where any discussion should have been. You removed a candidate for speedy renaming with the edit summary "moving to discussion". First, it's not clear why, and seondly, you don't in fact seem to have moved it to discussion, but simply deleted it. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 12:38, 29 April 2006 (UTC-4)

You deleted this stub that I made, on 30 March. Why did you do this? Current AfD decisions would indicate that a professor is often notable, and this one, as I said in the article, has been cited at the highest levels in his area. - Richardcavell 06:35, 1 May 2006 (UTC-4)

Airline destinations
[edit]I'd say it's ready enough. A couple small countries are still missing but I think the geographic arrangement is correct. The only question is whether to go in alphabetic order for continents or geographic from northwest to southeast. I remember the geographic order caused some issues with a few people. Dbinder 17:10, 2 May 2006 (UTC-4)
- I also just realized we never decided what to do with the Azores. They're currently listed under Africa, although they're closer to Europe. One user pointed out that the Canary Islands should be with mainland Spain, since they are a province with the same political status as anywhere on the mainland. I agree, since that would be consistent with listing Hawaii with the US. However, Madeira and the Azores are territories, so to be consistent, they should be listed where they are geographically located. The Azores are in the middle of the Atlantic, although they're closer to Europe than anything else. Maybe they should go there? Dbinder 17:28, 2 May 2006 (UTC-4)

Gimmie Coffee Prod
[edit]Hi, I noticed that you prodded Gimmie Coffee for deletion. While I don't have a problem with the article being deleted, you should know that this one was prodded once recently (by me). After it was deprodded, it survived AfD with no consensus. It's only been a week since the AfD closed, so I think it's safe to say that this wouldn't be an uncontroversial deletion. Kevin Mitnick
[edit]Hi. Concerning your edit summary to reinsert this person in the List of Las Vegans article: if that's the case, then we need to do something about Mitnick's entry on Wikipedia. When I went over there to verify his relation to Las Vegas, I found no information that would link him to the city appropriately. The two times Vegas is cited in the article, it's in reference to Mitnick giving speeches in events in Vegas, with no suggestion that he lives there — as a matter of fact, one of the references suggests the exact opposite, as it says (...)while in Vegas for a conference (...). Are you positive about Mitnick's residence in Vegas, or is our article wrong/incomplete? Also, I was wondering if a convicted hacker would be sufficiently notable that his presence in Vegas would be noteworthy. Regards, Redux 17:27, 18 May 2006 (UTC-4)
- Hi again. I only removed him because our article about him, which is no stub, made no reference to him living in Vegas, and, as I said, seemed to suggest the opposite (see the quote above). I would favor a clean up in the "non-natives" section, though. It seems that a lot of people are being included just because they once performed in Vegas, or had a business there. I was thinking we should stick to the "significant contribution" criterion for non-natives. Cheers, Redux 17:49, 18 May 2006 (UTC-4)

[edit]I sympathize with your point, I know it is used for radio stations, and I originally agreed. Copyvio of Nevada State Route 171
[edit]Hi! Nevada State Route 171 has been listed as a copyright violation. The first revision was word for word copied from AARoads, and even though the source was stated, it is still copyright infringement. Just thought I'd notify you. --Geopgeop 00:59, 28 May 2006 (UTC-4)
I don't know if that works; the copyvio template states:
Note that simply modifying copyrighted text is not sufficient to avoid copyright violation — it is best to write the article from scratch.
So instead, I made Nevada State Route 171/Temp (with capital "T") from scratch. --Geopgeop 02:06, 28 May 2006 (UTC-4)
I think there were enough KEEP votes to make this a consensus ! What is the issue ? SirIsaacBrock 15:14, 28 May 2006 (UTC-4)
- Hello, I count 34 KEEP and 23 DELETE and 3 LISTIFY. By the way LISTIFY should not count as a vote toward DELETE !
- Wikipedia is not a democracy. Consensus is partially a subjective matter. Kasreyn 15:31, 28 May 2006 (UTC-4)
- I think in this case you better make a post the +cat discussion page, so people understand your determination. Thank you SirIsaacBrock 15:23, 28 May 2006 (UTC-4)
This is odd, Vegaswikian. I notice that debate over the category was closed by you. You note that there was no clear consensus. I have a few questions. First of all, I've read that Wikipedia "is not a democracy" and that consensus is not determined by a straight vote. Therefore there is some subjectivity in these decisions. I'm curious what the guidelines are for this decision. I assume you are an admin of some variety. What guidelines do you use for determining a.) when there is no further point in leaving a debate open and b.) whether there is consensus?
Please don't take this question as an attempt to impugn your motives or efforts. It's not. I don't have any problem with your decision. I'm simply curious about the "inner workings" of Wikipedia, so to speak. For instance, though there may have been no consensus regarding keeping or deleting the category, there were other issues. Many, including myself, were willing to allow its retention providing suitable objective criteria for inclusion be established. Can one in your position also decide whether a sub-consensus was arrived at on such issues as criteria for inclusion? Or can you only decide the consensus on the black-or-white issue of keep or delete? Specifically, it seems to me that even among those willing to keep the category, many expressed concern over the subjectivity of it and the necessity for careful consideration before including a page. Would determining if this represents a consensus be something for you to do in closing the Afd debate, or is it to be declared by those of us editing the category's talk page amongst ourselves? NHS categories
[edit]Hi. Your suggestion about neat English for changing a category at Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_May_25#Category:NHS_defunct_bodies_to_Category:NHS_defunct_organisations led me to post this!
- Let's wait because there are two issues to discuss first. There's an issue we've just bumped into here for the WikiProject in possibly renaming 5 other existing categories like Category:NHS hospitals because of the naming convention of avoiding abbreviations. Personally, I think that using "National Health Service" in full in categories will cause readability issues which ought to be considered. Secondly, there's a Catch-22 "Major Major" issue around here too. One of the other new categories that the WikiProject is intending to create is for NHS "national organisations": implying we should name that as Category:National National Health Service organisations. --Mereda 11:27, 29 May 2006 (UTC-4)
All ethnicity category pages
[edit]Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2006 May 20#All ethnicity category pages
Please skip ahead to this entry. I'm hoping you have time this weekend to close this. There seems to be a strong consensus to delete them all and set a category guideline that these should be lists (for annotation) instead. Even the abstainers note that "The ideal Wikipedia would not have these".... We've had a lot of category revert warring in this arena lately.
There are several other subcategories in the queue that depend on this closing result. For days, I added a pointer in each of them to this entry so that everybody would come together and decide, and I think we've had fairly good participation. (But not as many as I'd expected.)
I'll be happy to update the various guidelines afterward, but I'm not an administrator, and thus not able to close anything "controversial".
- --William Allen Simpson 15:07, 29 May 2006 (UTC-4)
- I looked at that one. If I closed it right now it would be No Consensus since the count I get is 9D and 6K. That's 60%. Editors can still vote since it is not closed. Can you add a comment to the discussion that points to the other cat votes? Those could help make a decision clearer. I have been doing the closes only because everyone else seems to have stopped. I don't have enought experience to decide a lot of these close ones. If you notice there are still a lot of open votes from several days ago that I can not decide on. Vegaswikian 15:23, 29 May 2006 (UTC-4)
- Aha, just looked at it again. It's the usual vote stacking problem rearing its ugly head. It was 9d:3k 75% (hmaines voted twice) earlier today at the moment I asked you, but hmains is now running around asking people to add keep votes. Except for the terrible backlog, this should have closed days ago!
- --William Allen Simpson 15:36, 29 May 2006 (UTC-4)
- Hello there. What about closing the discussions (May 19 and this)? I read the former as 5D/2K and the latter as 10D/6K. Furthermore, both discussions are about Category:People by ethnic or national descent; aggregate tally is 11D/6K. And the subcategories were not tagged, so I'm tempted to close both as invalid and suggest proper relisting to nominators. What do you think? Conscious 07:47, 31 May 2006 (UTC-4)
- Well, that closure is fine with me. Thanks for the tagging advice. Conscious 04:00, 1 June 2006 (UTC-4)
Skladanek
[edit]Hi Vegaswikian.
I notice that you warned Unleashedchaos for inserting references to nonexistent people by the name of Skladanek into articles three weeks ago. I have just placed the blatant vandal template on the talk page of a relatively new user called Gxustin for similar edits. Apart from a couple of grammar edits, all of their contributions have mentioned the name Skladanek. I suspect that this user could be Unleashedchaos with another username. I just thought you might want to keep an eye on them. Blarneytherinosaur 02:58, 30 May 2006 (UTC-4)
Georgia categories
[edit]Since nobody else commented on the suggestions, I don't think we can say there was consensus to make the changes. I don't expect objections, but it's probably best to provide the opportunity for comment. I officially nominated the categories, along with a few other ones I found. Thanks for the reminder! - EurekaLott 03:02, 30 May 2006 (UTC-4)
Astrological person categories
[edit]I hope I'm not rushing you, but what is holding up the deletion of Category:Capricorns, Category:Virgos and Category:Cancers? Category:Libras and Category:Geminis have already been deleted in accordance with this decision. I hope I am just too quick for you, but I made the point of clearing out some residual names in some of those categories. - CobaltBlueTony 13:42, 30 May 2006 (UTC-4)
- "...just move them to the to be deleted queue". I don't know how to do that. I'm not an admin... - CobaltBlueTony 13:54, 30 May 2006 (UTC-4)
- Okay, thanks! - CobaltBlueTony 13:59, 30 May 2006 (UTC-4)
Would you please rethink your decision on the move of Category:Disaster movies to Category:Disaster films? I saw that it was close, however, I also saw that those who were against are not regular contributors to film articles. There is also a naming convention in place whereas all articles and categories should refer to this medium as film instead of movie. I hope to hear back from you soon.

Re:Sam Boyd Stadium
[edit]Hmm. I wouldn't add the stadium directly to the music venues category, because it looks like most of the articles in that category are about places that are primarily music venues. However, I imagine that nearly every stadium has served as a music venue at one time or another, so perhaps it would be a good idea to add Category:Stadiums to the Category:Music venues. Category:Indoor arenas is already included there, so there is some precedent. - EurekaLott 20:11, 8 June 2006 (UTC-4)
Under the Shadow
[edit]You seem to have re-deleted and protected the Under the Shadow article. The only reason I reposted it was because it is under the requests page. So I thought that there is interest to see an article about them. And God's grace be upon you. Smile Lee 02:34, 10 June 2006 (UTC-4)
Fair enough. But I would like to know what I could do to help it out, as they haven't been interviewed. And if you noticed I added that it didn't have sufficient sources as a tag for the ariticle. I would like to make it comply to wiki standards if possible.Smile Lee 03:06, 10 June 2006 (UTC-4)
I believe they might fall under the:
- Has been placed in rotation nationally by any major radio network.
M88 isn't a local radio station, they are within large portion of the American Southwest. As well as being globel with their online broadcasting.
- Has composed a number of melodies, tunes or standards used in a notable genre, or tradition or school within a notable genre.
Considering their song "Your Grace" is a usual praise song within' the Seventh Day Adventist church I would say that is a tradition. The problem I see though is that worship songs for a church cannot be verified, but I think if you went to an SDA church for a while you might eventually hear it. But, thus, that is the point of the not being completely verifiable tag, correct?
And, this probably doesn't count, but their song "Falling" has been nominated into the Lyricwiki song of the day lol. Smile Lee 03:22, 10 June 2006 (UTC-4)
The main reason I see this needing an article is because some people are showing a desire to see the article. Seeing as how their was a request. And I've seen one or two talk pages say they were wondering where the article is. Smile Lee 03:29, 10 June 2006 (UTC-4)
Thanks dude, I just needed some pointers and I will edit the article to see if I can get it up to par. I shall get to work on it. Smile Lee 03:31, 10 June 2006 (UTC-4)

IATA airline designator
[edit]Are you checking to see if the IATA code is either a redirect or listed on the existing DAB article? If so it would save me from having to look through all of your changes, see what was added and then do the check. Also, it is best to leave the defunct airlines in the list for historical reasons. Thanks for working on filling in the missing airlines, it is a thankless task. Vegaswikian 19:29, 12 June 2006 (UTC-4)
- Sorry for the confusion. I started doing that right now for the new codes I added (A,B,C,D). The reason why I deleted some codes was that in many cases, I found no other reference for it after doing an Internet search or checking on other sites, such as the FAA or the Airline Codes Website. I did preserve other codes, with the mention defunct. AirOdyssey 19:53, 12 June 2006 (UTC-4)

I'm not sure I understand your reasoning behind this -- it seems to me that these valleys should be a subcategory of at least one higher-level "Valleys of" category, so that they appear somewhere in that category hierarchy, and since the Mojave spans four states, it seemed reasonable to have it appear as a subcategory for such categories for those four states. What is your objection to this scheme? --ScottMainwaring 19:01, 21 June 2006 (UTC-4)

You marked this for renaming on 27 May 2006, but it never got moved. Did it just fall through the cracks? —Markles 06:23, 23 June 2006 (UTC-4)
Ritz Carlton page
[edit]I recently changed your edits to that page, in which you linked Bulgari as BVLGARI. "BVLGARI" is a trademark, and is not the proper name of the company. This is the same principle as the "new" AT&T -- it's logo is "at&t" but the name of the company is AT&T. Just wanted to let you know what I did, and why. Trevormartin227 15:02, 23 June 2006 (UTC-4)
School PD
[edit]Article short, little to say about a PD, natural home in the school district's article... I would prefer not to see all these strange PD articles - and have prod'ed a few - but if you're going to expand it, go ahead and split it back out, I guess... Reverting me will be two clicks. See ya. - CrazyRussian talk/email 14:45, 28 June 2006 (UTC-4)
