Football Club Dred, or simply FC Dred, is an amateur football club based in Rome, Lazio, Italy, that competes in the Revolution Kant league.[1]
Founded in 2018 as Football Club Dred, the club folded in 2020 and were re-founded by Federico Leti Maggio in 2021.[1]
The club has played 4 times in the Padre Pio's Championship; winning it in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.[1] In addition to various minor league titles, the club has won several friendlies against local teams, like FC Mans and FC Love. In its Revolution Kant debut under club chairman Federico Leti Maggio, Dred had some upset loses at home, most notably against Ultimo Banco on 15 July 2023, which lead to their opponents first place in the league.[1]
The club's players are nicknamed Biancorossi (red and whites) due to their historical kit colours, inspired by their motto: "Bianco Reale, Rosso Mutti", which include white shirts and socks accompanied by red shorts.[1] They play their home matches at the 25-capacity Stadio FC Dred. In the 2018-19 season, they became the first Giordano Bruno's football team to show a kit sponsorship (SbrebJazz).[1]
History
[edit]Early years (2018-2020)
[edit]FC Dred was founded on 5 September 2018, in a Decathlon store located in Porta di Roma's shopping center by five men and one girl (Federico, Ivan, Gabriele, Filippo, Alessandro, Agnese).[1] On the same day the club uniforms and the medals for the first edition of the Padre Pio's Championships were purchased by the founders. In the following weeks the founders voted Alessandro Vecchia as the first historic chairman of the team, who decided to appoint the team to the head coach and expert captain Filippo Mollicone, chosen for his experience and leadership.[1]
The club made its debut in Padre Pio's Championship in 25 November 2018 against FC Mans, first winners of the competition and historical rivals of the club.[1] The match was won by Fc Mens thanks to an extraordinary performance by Matteo Craciun, captain of the team. The club's first historic win took place against FC Mans on 22 September 2019 at Campo Montesacro, decided by a late goal from club's legend Ivan Copponi.[1] At the end of this match, Dred's officials bought the first footballer for the club, Nicola Affinito, who, however, never took the field.[1]
The 2018-19 season was the best in the club's history which ended with the Padre Pio's Championship victory. The final was played on 9 May 2019 in the iconic pitch of Stadio FC Dred. The final match against FC Mans was won by Dred, with the outstanding score of 16-9.[1]
In May 2020 the club went bankrupt due to internal disagreements and poor results.[1]
Dred's second era (2021-present)
[edit]In February 2021 the club was taken over by businessman Federico Leti Maggio, who tried to return to Dred's old glories. In the past couple months new players were bought by the new president but results didn't arrive.[1]
In 2023 Leti Maggio tried to revive the club's fortunes changing the club’s local competiton from Padre Pio's Championship to Revolution Kant league but the club has still 0 wins in the league and is last in the league table.[1]
