Phuthuma Nathi, launched in 2006, is a South African empowerment initiative offering black South Africans indirect ownership in MultiChoice SA under B-BBEE policies. With over 75,000 shareholders,[1] it has distributed R13.4 billion in dividends,[2] benefiting individuals, small businesses, and community groups.[3]

History and Growth

[edit]

In 2011, Phuthuma Nathi shares became publicly tradable,[4] increasing flexibility for shareholders. By 2019, MultiChoice expanded Phuthuma Nathi's ownership to 25%,[5] strengthening its role in empowerment.

Impact and Empowerment

[edit]

Phuthuma Nathi's dividends support shareholders' goals, from education to housing. This initiative remains integral to MultiChoice's mission of promoting social and economic progress,[6] aligning closely with South Africa's B-BBEE goals.
