Article Critique
[edit]I visited the li hing mui page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: its lack of citations, its presence through out the world, and its roots.
Citations
There is a good amount of citations on the page considering the size of the article. I clicked on each of them, but unfortunately, most of the links were either dead or led me to an error page. The article also lacks inline citations. All of the citations for the article were listed below the "reference" category instead. I noticed that almost all of the citations came from blogs or advertisements. The article could have included other sources that would make the information on the topic more reliable.
Presence through out the world
In the article, the only locations that were mentioned that carry li hing mui was China and the United States of America. I know that li hing mui is also sold in Vietnam, but I see any mention about it being anywhere else other than China or the U.S (Hawaii in particular). The article also translates li hing mui into Chinese and calls the snack by its Chinese name through out the article. I know that li hing mui can also translate into other languages and is used in other places as well.
Roots
The roots of li hing mui was unclear. There was no exact date of when the snack was created or mention the person who created it either. I was also expecting another section of history on how the snack affected places like the United States, since the article stated that a "li hing mui craze" occurred in America.
Summary
I would rate this page as "okay" to "average". The article did its job by informing the reader well. The information on li hing mui seemed reasonable besides the fact that almost all of the sources lead to error pages, blogs, or advertisements. The article could have been better if details were shared about the history of the snack. Also, the article left out the presence of li hing mui in other places through out the world, which could have made the topic not only interesting for the U.S or China, but for the rest of the world as well.
- I posted a suggestion on the li hing mui talk page.
