Chinese name
[edit]How is Li hing mui written in Chinese? Duyet-pho (talk) 05:55, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
- i've been trying to find out myself for years, including asking aroung in china. they have dried plums there under the name "chen pi mui" (chen-skin-plum), where chen is simply the surname, so bilingual friends there surmise "li" is likely the surname lee in the same manner.
- in fact, given that the company name is "yee sheong", i'm gonna make my own guess that "li hing" is an alternate/mandarin reading of THAT. alas, tho, that's not on the packages either!
- either way, it's a local coinage/brandname, so speaking chinese doesn't help much. what we need is a company SOURCE.... 66.105.218.16 (talk) 02:44, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
旅行梅 or 李兴梅 or 話梅
[edit]Where do the Chinese characters 旅行梅 come from? They are not even pronounced "li hing mui." This Chinese page suggests 李兴梅, which at least has a similar pronunciation in Cantonese.
I'm not sure either of them, or indeed "Li hing mui," are good to describe the product. It is not even mentioned in the Chinese version of this page. The common Chinese name for this Chinese food is "huamei," 話梅, and logically that should be the title of this page. Mlewan (talk) 09:31, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
- Some reliable sources give the "travelling plum" definition [1] but it is provided in passing so there may have been circular sourcing from the Wikipedia page itself.--Leugen9001 (talk) 23:10, 25 January 2019 (UTC)
- Whatever Li Hing is in Chinese, it is a) not the name of this plum in Chinese and b) does not correspond to the romanization if it is truly "travelling plum." [1] I believe this name might only be used in Hawaii. I concur that the title of this page should be Hua mei or Wah mui, as this would agree with the naming in the rest of the world. The edits of this page point to most of the Hawaiian influence stemming from one school in Honolulu assigning Wikipedia editing to a class, which may be why it is biased towards Hawaii (despite being a broadly Chinese diaspora food). Unreadable first paragraph
[edit]Please stop ruining the first paragraphs of every damn article by putting tons of shit in brackets between words until the actual sentence you’re supposed to read becomes unreadable! … It’s bad enough that Wikipedia generally goes out of its way to talk about everything BUT the most essential part of actually saying what the thing actually is. … Together with the inserted gibberish, it becomes unbearable! — 2A0A:A546:FE76:1:7634:A54A:79A9:F2EA (talk) 18:58, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
