The following is and FAQ for the List of downloadable songs for the Rock Band series article. The goal of this section is to provide editors with answers to questions that pop up frequently in regards to information presented in this article.

Note: Answers are derived from consensus reached through discussions now archived in Talk:List of downloadable songs for the Rock Band series, as well as the talk pages for games in the Rock Band series. Please edit these answers to reflect new consensus if changes are made.

Song information

Q: What is this "official" song list everybody refers to?

Following the release of Rock Band 2, Harmonix began publishing the full list of songs available for the Rock Band series at www.rockband.com/music. This site provides the in-game data for every song. This includes downloadable content and disc releases.

Q: Why is that band listed as being that genre?

Due to the subjective nature of musical genres, the Rock Band song lists use the in-game genre assigned by Harmonix and available on their official page.

Q: Why are songs released in one decaded labeled as another?

Harmonix frequently categorizes a song by the decade in which the corresponding album was released. For example, see The Singles 1992–2003. In situations such as these we yield to the official Rock Band song list.

Q: Why do some song listings in this article differ from those when viewed in-game?

In some situations, a song may feature a genre or decade that differs from what is listed at Harmonix's official page. In these situations, the best option is to yield to the listing on the website, as it is accessible by any Wikipedian who wishes to independantly verify the information. Regardless of if they own the game.

Q: "Beethovan's" what!?

Wikipedia does not believe in censorship. While it is interesting to note that there is some confusion as to just how the song is officially titled, the decision was made to stay with the previously created consensus and present the information as it is in-game.

Tiering/Difficuly

Q: Why were the difficulties for each instrument removed from the article?

Difficulty rankings for each song were not originally included, and were only added after much debate in the talk pages. Once the Rock Band Music Store was opened online, the decision was made to remove the tiering from the article. The arrival of the Harmonix's official list further supported the decision, as it allowed for the tables to be less cultured and more focused on the important information in the context of the article. When Harmonix restructured the difficulty rankings (going from a 9 tier to a 7 tier system), it became difficult to accurately convey the differences between the previous tiers and those introduced with Rock Band 2.

Song listings

Q: What is the point of the "Unofficial Songs" section?

Often times, a source outside of Harmonix will announce the inclusion a set of songs that will be included in the Rock Band series. Since Harmonix frequently does not comment on songs named from outside sources, a consensus was reached to include those songs which have been revealed by reliable sources outside of Harmonix. This is to differentiate between those songs which are announced by Harmonix as downloadable content, and those songs which may come as DLC or in future disc releases.

Q: Why aren't songs from AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack in this list?

Due to licensing agreements between Wal-Mart, AC/DC, and Harmonix, there are currently no plans to release the contents of the pack through the Rock Band Music Store. As such, they are only listed in the list of Rock Band track packs.

Q: Why are the 20 songs only available to Rock Band 2 owners listed?

While these songs were released as promotional content for Rock Band 2, they are fully playable in both the first and second Rock Band.

Q: Why are some albums listed in the "Singles" table while others are only included in the "Albums" table?

In the past, Harmonix has been unable to release the full contents of some albums (including Dr. Feelgood and The Singles 1992-2003). In other situations (such as with Screaming for Vengeance), a pair of songs were merged into a single piece of DLC. As such, the only time the contents of a album pack will be listed is once they are officially revealed by Harmonix.
