File permission problem with File:DicknDeeDee_mid_sixties.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:DicknDeeDee_mid_sixties.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey (talk) 23:40, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
Categories for discussion nomination of Category:Leo Abrahams albums
[edit]Category:Leo Abrahams albums, which you created, has been nominated for discussion. If you would like to participate in the discussion, you are invited to add your comments at the category's entry on the Categories for discussion page. Thank you. Pichpich (talk) 21:24, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. I suppose I could reply in the categories for deletion page but I'm more certain that you'll read the message here. What you were trying to accomplish with the category is precisely what you've accomplished by writing Leo Abrahams (nice work btw) and creating links to it from various album articles. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 18:16, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, and excellent point. I'm actually ambivalent if the category stays or goes; deleting it might be less redundant. Best, Sloggerbum (talk) 17:05, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Help with a new page
[edit]Hi: I[ve created a new page regarding a little known but wonderful artist, Rene Cera. I'm new to Wikipedia so looking for feedback and advice. Thanks. Handerson9 (talk) 01:56, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
Hey, I admired your great overhaul of Iryna Khalip; very well-researched article on the sort of person Wikipedia too often neglects. As a 5x expansion, I've nominated it for DYK. Would you like to see if you can improve on the hook I've got? -- Khazar (talk) 19:28, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
- Cool, hook looks good to me! I didn't even know about dyk. Sloggerbum (talk) 19:58, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Adoption
[edit]Hi Sloggerbum,
For years, I use Wikipedia as an avid reader. I analyzed a lot for my research, particularly in the fields of botany, painting and communication. Having been director of communications of a large international group and now a consultant in communications strategies, Wikipedia was very helpful for my work. Fascinated by the free encyclopedia ‘s world and convinced that the media is the future of knowledge transmission and communication, I would like to be sponsored to improve the quality of my contributions. I have already studied the tutorials and for now, I have made several minor edits. Found of Nature, I am deeply engaged in activities to safeguard biodiversity, particularly in the Amazon (as a painter, I outlined a series of paintings on medicinal plants of Amazonia, in various Art galleries). Fluent in Spanish and English, I think I can make some contributions in the fields above-mentioned.
I was impressed by your curriculum and i am sure your experiment in Wikipedia will be of great help. Many thanks in advance for your answer. Have a nice week-end --Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 17:51, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerburn,
Many thanks for your quick answer and very please to see we share the same affinities for Nature and particularly Amazonia.
Many thanks also for the template. I will use it as I have some Brazilian publications to add to Mario Christian Meyer 's page. Could you help me too regarding 2 issues :
- Bulleted list item
the videos inserted in the part "External Link": Perhaps there is a problem of licence? is the authorization from the Brasilian TV needed? and if Yes to whom I send it.
- Bulleted list item
the page stays Orphan although I have added external links?
I will be also available to translate pages or help on art, Sustainable Development or Amazonia topics. For now I go on to try to understand the Wikipedian planet which is not so easy. Have a nice day --Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 11:26, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Wikmont: The orphan is tagged not because the Mario Christian Page doesn't have external references, but because other Wikipedia pages don't mention his name. Perhaps you can think of some other topics where his name or research could be included? Even one would mean the orphan tag could be removed. Also, the video links are fine as far as I can tell: there doesn't need to be any authorization to include links or references on Wikipedia; images are what needs release forms. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, gone for the weekend :) Sloggerbum (talk) 18:42, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
No problem Sloggerbum and many thanks for your useful and very clear answer. I will check then how to have extended references. if you need my humble help for an article, do not hesitate. In France, we had a nice sunny 3-day week-end. cheers --Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 13:24, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, Many thanks again for your template. I use it to add the brazilian articles in the "scientific publications" chapter of Mario Christian Meyer page. I have some problem with the order of the headlines that I can't change. For example for the 3 & 4 new entries called "Embracing Amazônia" and " Water is the Blood of the Earth " Siquieira Gustavo editor must be at the end. It is well positioned in the sand box but when I save the entries, the position is different and I don't find my error. Sometimes also, the text appears in italic...
This week-end I read your pages on music. I like classic music but I am not an expert. Nevertheless I could contribute in translation. Many thanks again for your answer. cheers Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 07:23, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, Your recommendations were very helpful. I added some additional information in the General publications and I will rank the scientific ones by chronological order as you show me. cheers —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikmontmartre18 (talk • contribs) 20:11, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum,
I have been working on the General Publications (some problems of page number location...) and I just remark you have restructurate the Scientific Publications. You are as quick as lightning... ! In France, it is midnight and half and I feel sleepy but I write you tomorrow; thank you very much angel Sloggerbum. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikmontmartre18 (talk • contribs) 22:22, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, I am still working on the Publications and It is not so easy for me. I meet difficulties with the links and I do not always see what is wrong. As I do not want to bother you, I propose to go on with the links insertion, to gather all the questions I have and come back to you. I am sincerly very pleased to have you to help for my first wiki contributions (note : I had some problems with my new i.book-smile). I am doing research on Dr. Meyer's publications to better understand the challenges o his original approach (Man/Nature interactions) as I am sure it will be of interest for wikipedians interested in life science and nature preservation and consequent ethic issues for future generation. cheers —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikmontmartre18 (talk • contribs) 08:12, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi sloggebum, Many thanks for your reply. I have new links to enter and when ready I come back with all my questions. But what is the meaning of Sloggerbum? Have a nice sunday.--Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 08:58, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- Okey Dokey. Just randomly came up with the username actually, no specific meaning. Best, Sloggerbum (talk) 04:34, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
HI SLOGGERBUM, The userbox you have created is very helpful and perfect and now I use to look at it. I worked hours and hours on the scientific publications and I am afraid the results are not very good. So, to go ahead with the general publications, I need your help as I am still fighting with the Wiki guidelines. So the main problems I meet : the difference between a text in italic and a quote for title and trans title: e.g. "title (regular cap), [trans title in italIc.]. very often the coma comes before the bracket and not after the difference between page and pages (p.versus pp.) sometimes my text does not appear in the final preview. Is it a problem of text location but I respect the template you sent me. very often, I am obliged to introduce inside another field in order it appears after validation. I am aware I have many questions for you and I am sure with your help I will make progress. Many thanks. Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 07:52, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, The latest videos have desappeared from the external links. In fact I don't know what is the problem as the procedure was the same for the 2 previous ones? Have a nice Sunday Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 19:42, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, I suppose it is your contributions that appears in my talk page under the title "Going over templates" . If it is the case, MANY MANY THANKS for this great job! but I do not understand why your username do not appears. Can you explain me please. Great cheersWikmontmartre18 (talk) 23:54, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
HI Sloggerbum, Many thanks for your precious help. I see Helen Jane's page and I will try to do the same. I can help in French translations, I will do it with pleasure although I am not an expert in electronic music, but I will learn. Now, I am fighting with the videos that have been retrieved. Martin H wrote me there were problems of licensing. So, what can I do ? : write to the TV Producers to obtain the broadcasting authorizations? And when obtained, how to transmit it to Wikipedia? I buy a book on Wikipedia management, but this point is not treated. In France, the weather is sunny and it is bank holidays, so I ll have time to "wikipediate". Cheers Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 06:57, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, How are you ? I hope I was not too boring with all my questions ? When you are available, could you to my questions ? Many thanks and hoping hearing from you, cheers. Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 20:15, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, Very pleased to hear you again. I sent you two messages but you don't see them. I tried to create chapters in our correspondence but it was not a good idea. This a copy of my questions :
INFOBOX : Hi Sloggerbum, I filled up the template infobox you recommended, with Meyer's data, but I don't know where to add it - by copy/paste - as there is no "edit" link below the photo. What does it mean "I'm in the personal habit of putting the text Replace this image male.svg in the photo line." Replacing the image, the photo will not disappear? Many thanks --Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 18:16, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
ORPHAN PAGE : Hi Sloggerbum, I tried to delete the Orphan Tag using the following template : [edit]Step 4: Remove the orphan template Once the article has three or more links that fit the criteria, remove the tag, if one is present. You may use this edit summary: Successfully de-orphaned! Wikiproject Orphanage: You can help! Should I write this formula in the Meyer's page? I am working on English page "Paris Society of Medicine" and will add a third wiki link. Many thanks and cheers.--Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 17:59, 5 June 2011 (UTC) Many thanks again. Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 13:15, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, Many thanks for your help regarding the infobox. I start to add some data. Concerning DE-ORPHAN, I delete the tag but I do not find what you call "description" in order to introduce the sentence "removed orphan tag, page is now mentioned on entry for Julian de Ajuriaguerra, Pictograms". I am working on another link related to "Société de médecine de Paris". Tomorrow, it will be ready. Many thanks for helping me. cheers Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 01:37, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, Many thanks regarding your precious help on Videos. Today , I have created a new page on "Paris Society of Medicine" and I have a problem to insert a photo. Can you have a look please? Also Wikipedia put this tag : "This template should be removed once the page has been reviewed by someone other than its creator"; Could you be kind enough to review it before they DELETE all this work. Many many thanks!Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 22:24, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
HI Sloggerbum, Did you receive my messages from "13:15, 18 June 2011" and the one of "June 19, 2011"? Everything is Ok with you ? I hope so. cheersWikmontmartre18 (talk) 20:02, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
HI Sloggerbum, Many thanks for the 2 wonderful Rosetta Stars. My first reaction was to look for a special star to offer to a "Super-Adopter" as you are. It is late here and I write you tomorrow. Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 23:20, 2 July 2011 (UTC) Where can I find it?Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 23:22, 2 July 2011 (UTC) Hi Sloggerbum I send you a special barnstar but it appears on my page..; How can I move it from there to your page of course. cheersWikmontmartre18 (talk) 23:36, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, Did you receive the star I want to give to you? Just another detail. Pr. Meyer 's article has now 3 links, so the Orphan tag was erased. Nevertheless I never succeed to add the justification sentence. How and where can I introduce the phrase you recommended me ? ref. message June 18. cheers Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 12:33, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, Congratulations, I saw the new logo promoting you as wikiotter. Please, can you help me to understand all the messages I received concerning the videos including the two ones coming from Youtube (Cannabistrot). Apparently, they want to delete them, isn't it? Meanwhile i obtained the authorization from the TV channel SBT (2 videos) which I sent after research to videos mailing list called : 'Wikivideo-l'" what I found in wikicommons. I am Wikmomartre18 and I create a page on Prof. Dr. Mario Christian Meyer. In order to improve the article giving serious references, I introduced some videos but I receive the following message
After a long process, I get the authorization of the TV channel production. Now, can you please "liberate" the videos. (delete the message above)

Hello, Wikmontmartre18!
Thank you for providing images to the Wikimedia Commons. Commons images are used by editors on many projects in many languages. Each image is put into categories. This helps other editors find them. Please add categories to each image you upload.
To add an image to a category, edit the image description page to add the following code to the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, add the following:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
For further information on categories read Commons:Categories.
The CommonSense tool often helps you find the best category for your image.
Here is a gallery of your images. Please check that each image has a category. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the help desk. Thank you.

Hi Sloggerbum, Complementary information regarding the previous message on the videos: To obtain the authorizations, it is a very long bureaucratic process, specially when TV videos come from different continents. Is there a simple way to "liberate" the videos in wikicommon/wikimedia.? Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 13:41, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum,
I just see that after the external links part there is a view page rating. If the article has not a good note, can it be cancelled? So do you have a magic stick/wand? cheers Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 20:53, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, I hope everything is ok with you. I hav a look on the article on Society of medicine of Paris and I can see some text has disappeared. I assume it is a mistake. I insert it again. many thanks again for your precious help.cheers Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 21:19, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi Slogerbum I have a problem with the page "SOCIÉTÉ DE MEDECINE DE PARIS" (English release) previously named "PARIS SOCIETY OF MEDICINE". As the title has been translated in French, the English link with Meyer's page has desappeared. The second point is that the English release does not appear in Google search. So, is it possible to change the title from French to English for the English release to avoid confusion between the two releases? many thanks Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 19:37, 27 July 2011 (UTC) Hi Slogerbum, Many thanks for this new wiki contact. Deletion of Publications
[edit]Dear Sloggerbum, How are you? Need your precious help!
I realize that all the publications have been deleted by “Smartse” who think that the “Selected publications” are “better dealt with on a personal website, rather than here ». From what I know about Dr. Meyer’s style, I can not imagine him writing a “personal page” on the Internet as he seems to be more engaged with field activities in the Amazonian tribes than with Internet activities: most of his publications appears to be focused on Amazonian safeguard and environment…
1) This Smartse’s deletion eliminates even the Item Publications from the Summary, which is non-sense when we deal with a biography from a Scientist: the importance a scientist is measured by his publications!!! Moreover, the publications are a guarantee for the Verifiability (reliable sources), which is one of the main Criteria of Wikipedia.
2) This important deletion is unfortunate, because in Meyer’s “Selected publications” there are a lot of Brazilian publications, which are difficult to find in the Internet, and these “Selected publications” helps the web users for their research on this vital subject that is interesting for worldwide people.
3) In order to better understand Wikipedia ‘s Bio functioning, I saw a lot of extensive “publications/bibliography/works” in “good articles” (under the “good articles criteria” - WP.GA”), classified as “high” or “top”…
4) You, myself and even the Brazilian team of Giant of Ecology have spent many hours to edit this bibliography.
5) Taking into account the fact that some important publications such as Meyer’s contribution on LARROUSSE‘s encyclopaedic dictionary of drugs is not quoted in the Notes, it will simply disappear.
So, in conclusion, my fairy Adopter, I do need your help : how can we do to re-insert the publications without creating editing conflicts (« Edit War » or « Content Dispute » as Wikipedia call it).
Many thanks for your help
Nb : I do made my Homework with re-direction of Societe Royale de Medecine (without accent), but it does not seems to change anything… Concerning the Authorization video, I tried to upload the files SBT1_meyer_pisad.theora.ogv and SBT2_PISAD_MEYER.theora.ogv: does not work yet. I sent the TV authorization to the address you gave me : <permissions-commons@wikimedia.org> Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 15:08, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, Perhaps you are on holidays?Did you see my message from last Sunday about the Meyer s'page : all the publications have been removed. cheers Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 08:53, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, I see you are not on holidays and you have made a very good job on the publications. I just read the discussion but I need to read it more deeply as I am not familiar with some words as COI and read the Wikipedia repository/nor repository. As you recommend I will make also a short-list of the most important publications which needs some analysis even if UNESCO AND LAROUSSE are on the TOP of choice. A great thanks to my fairy adopter; I am very please to learn Wikipedia rules with you. cheersWikmontmartre18 (talk) 15:50, 18 August 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikmontmartre18 (talk • contribs
Hi Sloggerbum, There is another problem regarding the publications: dates and Meyer's name have been retrieved. e.g. Richard, Denis; Senon, Jean-Louis, eds (1999). Dictionnaire des drogues, des toxicomanies et des dépendances, Amérindiens d’Amazonie [Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Drugs, Drug-addiction and Dependences, Amerindians from Amazonia]. Éditions Larousse. p. 435. ISBN 9782037203241. instead of Meyer, Mario Christian (1999). Richard, Denis; Senon, Jean-Louis. eds. Dictionnaire des drogues, des toxicomanies et des dépendances, Amérindiens d’Amazonie [Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Drugs, Drug-addiction and Dependences, Amerindians from Amazonia]. Éditions Larousse. p. 435. ISBN 9782037203241.
So, that brings a confusion about the author of the article : the reader can think that the author of Meyer's publication is Richard, Denis; Senon, Jean-Louis (the editor is Larousse). Could you please add it again? Many thanks Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 22:55, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, Please find here a complementary comment : WikiDan in February proposed the following structure for the presentation of publications placing Mario Christian Meyer and the date at the beginning. 14:46, 4 February 2011 WikiDan61 (talk | contribs) (10,709 bytes) (Cleaned up publication list and sorted chronologically) (undo). Moreover, could we delete the phrase "The specific problem is: Mario Christian Meyer" that we see when we clic on "For a more complete list, see Mario Christian Meyer (publications)" or, if not possible, change it to something like : "The specific problem is: the organization of Mario Christian Meyer's publications". Many thanks.Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 01:03, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, I come back again with the selected publications. There is 2 formats : one written according the Wikipedia criteria and another how it does appear finally.

Hi Sloggerbum, As you seem very busy at the moment, please could you just rectify the expression "The specific problem is: Mario Christian Meyer" that we see when we clic on "For a more complete list, see Mario Christian Meyer (publications)" which is "harmful" for the scientific community. So, could you please replace it by something like : "The specific problem is: the way of presentation of Mario Christian Meyer's publications". Otherwise, the reader will think there is a problem of validity/truthworth with these publications. Many , many thanks. Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 12:33, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, Did you receive my previous message regarding the publications. It is a pity that only 2 publications are mentioned as a scientist exists also via his publications. So could you insert the selection I have done (8 publications) as you requested? Many thanks again.Wikmontmartre18 (talk) 16:08, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
REDIRECTION + TV VIDEO AUTHORIZATION
[edit]See below
Hi Sloggerbum,
Many thanks for The instructions! I try to do the exercice to redirect a page .... and i have 2 questions for my fairy adopter.
-in order to create a redirection from
"Christian Meyer" to the article , is necessary to create a new page? (a heavy process). is there a easier way to do this ? In order not to loose all the work done to obtain thé authorisation from SBT (Brazil System Télévision) for the Meyer's video interview, how can we obtain an answer from the responsable of Wikicomedia TV who deals with copyrights. Do you remember I sent them The authorization more than a month ago at : wikivideo-I-bounces@lists.Wikipédia.org on 05/07/11 at 15:10 cheersWikmontmartre18 (talk) 14:15, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sloggerbum, Thank you very much for your contribution. just to understand, is it you that insert the following sentences: "This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. The specific problem is: Mario Christian Meyer. Please improve this article if you can. The talk page may contain suggestions. (August 2011) It has been suggested that this article or section be merged into Mario Christian Meyer. (Discuss) Proposed since August 2011. This article may need to be wikified to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. Please help by adding relevant internal links, or by improving the article's layout. (August 2011) Click [show] on right for more details." Is it useful to write "The specific problem is: Mario Christian Meyer."? Doesn't it create "conflicting" discussions? cheersWikmontmartre18 (talk) 13:03, 18 August 2011 (UTC) Hi Sloggerbum, I see you are not on holidays and you have made a very good job on the publications. A great thanks to my fairy adopter; I am very please to learn Wikipedia rules with you. cheersWikmontmartre18 (talk) 15:50, 18 August 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikmontmartre18 (talk • contribs) Courcelles 04:53, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
DYK for Iryna Khalip
[edit]On 1 May 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Iryna Khalip, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that journalist Iryna Khalip is under incommunicado house arrest following a protest of the 2010 Belarusian presidential election, in which her husband was also a candidate? If you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Adoption Request: Underground Musicians
[edit]Hey there Sloggerbum, I noticed that you were looking to adopt and I felt that your interest in documenting underground musicians would be very helpful in assisting me with my article writing and editing. I only joined a couple of days ago, but I have created 2 articles mostly from scratch (links on my Userpage) and I want to make sure that they are done as best as possible, and I also want to learn the best way to write articles about music and musicians. Don't worry, I do not write about myself, and I am trying to remain neutral and objective in my writings. Hope we can work together! TetraEleven (talk) 09:14, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for the adoption Sloggerbum! I am about to work on the changes you recommended, and I will try to get into contact with Wikmontmartre18 to see if he wants to collaborate. I haven't been at my home computer for the weekend so I didn't get a whole lot done, but now that I'm back I can get to work. I'm looking forward to learning and working under your guidance! Prisoner photos
[edit]Hey Sloggerbum, I saw your frustration with the Sannikov photo. I'm running into to it on some articles too. Two suggestions which may or may not work: 1) The admins have let me get away with some photos being uploaded with a plea about the person's current situation; see the photo attached U Ohn Than for the template I used. 2) Amnesty International's media arm has at least some photos they can share: check out their contact page at [1]. What we need to do is get a hold of someone there sympathetic to the needs of Wikipedia who can give us a steady pipeline of images on prisoners of conscience. I tried a few weeks ago without luck but may try again soon; you might try your luck as well. Happy hunting, and keep up the good work! Khazar (talk) 08:48, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, and I happened to be working on a tangentially related Belarusian democracy activist this afternoon, Ales Bialatski. (Viasna, his org, was helping Sannikov and Khalip's children I think.) If you have a second, want to take a look? I suspect you know a bit more about the politics there than I. Khazar (talk) 16:25, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the infobox and expansion. I'll try writing Amnesty again this weekend and see if I have any more luck this time. I'm surprised they're not jumping on this; if you type "prisoner of conscience" into Google, you actually get our webpage before theirs. So you think they'd be eager to coordinate, but perhaps they're concerned about conflict of interest accusations... who knows. Anyway, good luck with the Sannikov photo. I'll be sure to put him on my list when I write them, too, as he's probably the highest-profile PoC in the world right now. Enjoy the weekend! Khazar (talk) 18:13, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- I finally got a hold of Amnesty International by phone. No luck on the Sannikov picture for now, they don't have permission to share their images. I wonder if we'd have more luck with Channel 97 itself? Maybe I'll try another day. Cheers, Khazar (talk) 03:35, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- Wow Khazar, that's badass you got on the phone with them! Ultimately I think you're right that Charter97 is the best option (I'm sure they have tons of photos of Sannikov just sitting around, and access to all the people who would also have their own photos of him) but I have a feeling that until things settle down over there, they're probably too swamped to respond to any queries that aren't immediate, urgent, or story-related. At some point I may work on expanding their entry, possibly if that happens they'll become personally invested/interested in Wiki enough to respond. Cheers, and awesome work! Murdoch
[edit]Hi, thanks for your comments on Murdoch and your edits. Boson has been working to restructure the page over the last week - s/he has been leading on the page and seems to be in the middle of reworking it. Two people working with major changes literally at the same time can cause some confusion in editing. I recommend talking to her/him. The page has been stable. There have been comments but few major additions of text since the committees took place. So, I wouldn't panic. It seems to me that the page needs solid work, addition of detail and refs rather than sudden mass changes - there's no fire to fight, I think. Deep breaths. All best wishes. [edit]I've removed the non-free gallery of artwork that you created on this article. Per WP:NFG, the use of non-free images in this manner is not supported. You will likely receive a large number of notices regarding these images being 'orphaned', making them subject to deletion. Please do not restore the images to the article, whether in gallery or no. Re: Medical cannabis
[edit]Hello. You recently added a statement supposedly referring to a primary source that had previously been removed because the material was inaccurate. I am entirely unclear why you added this back into the lead when the body of the article explains precisely why your content is inaccurate. Further, we never attribute such statements to a primary source for this reason. Please use the talk page to explain why you have added this material back in against best practice. While you do that, please also review the med MOS and the sources you have used. You will discover your error in the process. Viriditas (talk) 07:46, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
- the error in my process? Be polite. I'm not psychic, and when I sifted through the history log for new changes before I jumped back into the page, I didn't notice a mention of whatever the sourcing problem it is you're referring to. When I saw no evidence to the contrary, I thought you'd just hack deleted it when you trimmed down the list. So don't jump to conclusions. Sloggerbum (talk) 07:59, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
- I explained the problem in the edit summary, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that the person adding content can prove that the source is accurate and supports the material. When you look at the body of the article which describes the problem, and at the source you've added, as well as at MOS:MED you will see your error. There is really nothing "rude" about telling you this, and I found your accusation on my talk page the height of rudeness, so please don't be hypocritical. A polite person would ignore any perceived "rudeness" and fix the problem. Why are we still talking about this? Your contribution history shows you have not used the talk page as requested to support your edit. I'm going away for an hour or so. When I get back, I expect to see your explanation on the article talk page, showing how the source was used accurately in regards to MOS:MED and without interpretation, with additional secondary sources supporting the wording. Otherwise, I will remove it again. What you are perceiving is not rudeness. It is irritation with dealing with someone who insists on misusing sources and adding inaccurate content. You've been here since 2007. You've had adequate time to learn how to edit. Additionally, your continued use of my talk page to post a reply tells me you aren't paying attention. When you edit my talk page, a message at the top very clearly says, "I prefer to keep discussions unfragmented. If you leave a comment for me here, I will most likely respond to it here as an effort to keep the entire conversation in one place. That way future users don't have to view each edit individually to see what you are referring to) Sloggerbum (talk) 09:59, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

This is what I wrote for the article on Brownie Mary:
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not currently recognize any medicinal use of cannabis and it remains classified under Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act as a drug that "has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States". However, scientific research suggests that cannabis may be useful in treating a variety of diseases.
That may or may not be appropriate for the lead of medical cannabis. If you do the research, you'll discover that privately, many former members of government branches have said that the FDA and the DEA's position on this is not based on evidence, but ideology. They don't want to be seen as fighting and supporting drug use at the same time, so there's no amount of evidence they will accept, and this is especially true of the DEA. For example, and this is purely a hypothetical example, the increasing presence of medical cannabis dispensaries in Los Angeles county and its legal distribution and use by patrons might actually be contributing to the five year decline in violent crime and homicides in that area. I'm reminded of the research I did for the hippie and history of the hippie movement articles and the availability of cannabis in Hawaii. Wherever and whenever the government began cracking down on cannabis growers and users, crime actually went up, as drugs like methamphetamine soon flooded the streets. I've been wondering for years if there was a correlation between the "green sweeps" of the 1980s and the flooding of the inner cities with crack cocaine, and the rise of "ice" use in Hawaii as the growers were busted and the users incarcerated. There is a lot going on here beyond what you read in the news and we need someone to take a good hard look at this. We know that during the last five years of the exponential growth of medical cannabis clubs in Los Angeles county, that violent crime has continued to go down. In some areas of LA, there has been a 30% decline in crime. This went against expectations; it was thought crime would go up due to the recession. But anyone who has been looking at the dispensary statistics knows they have been growing during that time and distributing more cannabis. We also know that most cannabis users aren't involved in any type of crime to feed their habit. They are probably addicted to music and television, which makes them mostly sedentary and puts a little stress on the ice cream and potato chip distributors, who may not be able to meet the demand. But seriously, if we're in an economic recession, then the DEA should hand this off to the IRS and tax the clubs, not shut them down. We need less of the personal belief and ideology crowd in Washington and more of the evidence based policy making and decisions. If there is a connection between the decline of violent crime and the rise of marijuana use, then the government's policy of shutting down the cannabis clubs is going against their own mandate to protect the public. It should be noted, the UK has claimed the complete opposite, attributing cannabis use to a rise in crime. Other commentators have attributed the decline in crime in the states to violent video games, while still others claim the video games make it worse. There is, however, general agreement in the health sciences that drug addicts require medical help, not prison. The system that we have tends to turn people into criminals rather than to help them integrate into society. I'm currently working on a Wikipedia article about the "Changing Lives Through Literature" alternative sentencing program which uses bibliotherapy to help offenders integrate back into society and reach their full potential. In the criminal justice literature, "rehabilitation" is increasingly seen as a myth because many of these offenders don't have anything to fall back upon. If the prison systems used the bibliotherapy approach, they would save enough money to send millions back to their counties to rebuild their decaying infrastructure. More to the point, the removal of cannabis from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act would save the U.S. billions and billions more could be generated in tax revenues through taxation and regulation. The government knows this, so why aren't they doing it? Viriditas (talk) 00:38, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- Awesome comment - I have a quick project to finish before I lose momentum, then I'll try and compose the proper response it deserves 02:03, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- The DEA launched their offensive on L.A. medical cannabis dispensaries two weeks after the RAND corporation published a paper that concluded that "Crime Rises When Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Close". Viriditas (talk) 07:25, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
Response
[edit]I agree with all your points (hard not to, they're all backed by literature), which leads us to the crux of the issue: "why are they doing it?"
The obscene irrationality of the Fed's stance makes it rather obvious that they have a hidden purpose, or several. I mean, honestly, where's the advantage in locking up goofy potheads to be raped and traumatized in prison all day? That's not a political issue, (gops smoke as much as dems, and suffer the same legal consequences), it's something else. I think it comes down to Big Pharma and Big Prison trying to make money and maintain control of their market. Big Pharma can't financially benefit from natural, herbal marijuana, so they're using the Feds to defend their chokehold on the overpriced synthetic medicine.
And unfortunately, since the Feds can keep all herbal marijuana proponents running scared with threat of prison and fines, Big Pharma has a serious edge. Pharmaceutical lobbyists have the resources to give the policy makers a lot of money. What's norml going to give our government as bribe? Free joints to all policy makers? And since voting on the federal level (ha!) to actually enact humanitarian policy change is impossible, all we can do is hope the Feds just lose interest (unlikely), or hope there will be a switch in the direction of their greed. Hopefully they'll realize taxing weed is more beneficial than sucking the FDA's...yeah, you get the picture.
Anyways, sorry, you got me rambling too. America is so embroiled with this "ideological" debate (which has nothing to actually do with ideology, the men in charge have never cared about ideology, it's always money, power, and political survival), that I think it's distracting the neutral issue underneath.
The crux of the question, as least in relation to the medical marijuana page; what is the effect of marijuana on the human body and various ailments? How have humans used it medicinally throughout history?
I think the central page for medical marijuana should almost solely focus on those questions. They are bigger-picture. In an online world of political confusion and mixed messages with hidden motives, this page fills the unique role of being an oasis for neutral, medical curiosity.
I'm actually very tempted to go to the main page and greatly shorten the section on the FDA. Since there's already plenty of side-pages dedicated, in detail, to all the points you mentioned in your earlier comment, I think a very brief summary on the medical marijuana page should suffice. I'm also against giving undue weight and space to the FDA, as compared to regulatory institutions in other countries. I understand Wikipedia is primarily a resource for Americans, but that makes it even more important to remind American readers that not everywhere in the world is dealing with the same marijuana-induced strife. So the page should have brief overviews on the worldwide political stanse towards medicinal marijuana, very brief, as there's also a side-page for that topic.
And because I hate giving undue weight to the FDA/US Feds, I personally wouldn't even support including a sentence on the FDA/US in the intro paragraph. If we do expand the introductory paragraph, again, the think the focus should be on the historically medicinal uses of marijuana, specific medical studies, and usage. All from as un-politicized of a perspective as possible. That's my opinion, anyways.
Thoughts on this? I personally think the medicinal marijuana page is currently kind of bloated, and could be organized a lot better. Right now it almost seems like five different topics just shoved on top of each other. Good paragraph at the top, by the way. Sloggerbum (talk) 22:40, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Artlot in Process Shifreen Scheffer 2006.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Artlot in Process Shifreen Scheffer 2006.jpg, which you've sourced to personal photo collection of Frank Shifreen.
You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy.
