Thomas "Tommi" Schmitt (born January 26, 1989 in Detmold, Germany) is a German television host, podcaster and former comedy author. He is a co-host of the podcast Gemischtes Hack and host of the podcast Copa TS, as well as the tv show Neo Ragazzi.
Life
[edit]After graduating from high school in 2008 in Detmold, he did the then mandatory community service[1]. After completing his civil service, he studied media communication and journalism in Cologne and volunteered in the press department of Borussia Mönchengladbach after completing his bachelor's degree [1]. Following his master's degree in Hannover, he broke off his master's studies in Hannover in favour of a career as a comedy writer in Cologne[1].
Career
[edit]While at university, Schmitt was a gag writer for TV. He moved to Cologne to work as a freelance writer for comedy formats on television, working for Luke Mockridge's show Luke! die Woche und ich and for Late Night Berlin with Klaas Heufer-Umlauf.[2]
Schmitt gained greater success through the weekly podcast Gemischtes Hack, which he hosts with comedian Felix Lobrecht since 2017.[2] Gemischtes Hack is one of the most listened podcasts in the German-speaking community.[3]
In April 2021, Schmitt received his own show on ZDFneo titled Studio Schmitt, in which he satirically tackled topics such as politics and pop culture. The show aired until June 2023.[4]
Schmitt was part of the cast of the second season of LOL: Last One Laughing on Amazon Prime Video.[5]
He also wrote columns for Stern and 11 Freunde.[6][7]
In December 2021, he participated as a guest on the shows Das Duell um die Welt - Team Joko vs Team Klaas and Joko & Klaas vs ProSieben.[8][9]
Since August 2023, Schmitt is host of the podcast Copa TS in which he alternates weekly football topics with famous guests, such as Christoph Kramer, Turid Knaak, Robin Gosens, Terrence Boyd, Jana Wosnitza and Gregor Ryl.[10]
Since September 2023, Schmitt has been hosting the talk show Neo Ragazzi together with Sophie Passmann. The eight episodes of the first season aired weekly on ZDFneo until November 2023; the third season began in August 2024.[11]
Schmitt is part of the eighth season alongside Nina Chuba and Kurt Krömer of the quiz show Wer stiehlt Mir die Show? by Joko Winterscheidt, which aired in autumn 2024. He won the final of the third season against Winterscheidt and took over hosting the following show on September 29, 2024.[12]
Personal life
[edit]Thomas Schmitt is the son of a doctor and a physiotherapist. He has one brother.[2] From 2020 to December 2022, Schmitt was in a relationship with influencer Caro Daur.[13] In 2024, Schmitt moved to Berlin, having previously lived in Cologne.[14]
