A Young Time Ago is a Nigerian film produced in 2023, directed by Lord Tanner, and distributed by Amazon Prime.[1]

Plot summary

Set in the University of Ibadan, Tayo works for Uncle Gee. One day, he tells his worker of Ukara, who will be visiting the house. Ukara later came to the house and engaged Tayo, who after a few time, narrated his love encounters and stories.

The story was taken far long when Tayo, a young boy in his University days. During that time, he was a close associate and friend of a girl called Kemi. He also liked her but the girl feels reluctant of it. A notable singer and senator's son Magic arrives to the school a certain day. Because Kemi loves Magic, she agrees to go to the party with him but unfortunately , was raped there.

After days of self absorption, and keeping it to herself, she finally tells Tayo, who in return, rated up a team to revenge the singer. In a bid to escape, Magic was shot. Since Magic has died, Kemi's father instructed her to leave the country, and Tayo arrested for killing Magic.

Shot in the University of Ibadan, the film was received with mixed but net-positive review.[1] In a critical review by Nigerian newspaper, Shola-Adido Oladotun of the Premium Times, the film received a mixed reaction, and was scored 5/10. Shola-Adido Oladotun said "the film may not have offer a fresh perspective on telling stories, but it will take you back to the years when Mo' Hits Records singers dominated the airwaves."[2] The film was listed as one of the "five films to see" by Vanguard.[3] It also was scored 6/10, and Enitan Abdultawab said "it can stand the tests of memory and time in its space."[4]
