User:Sadads/Blake

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Fall 2013, I will be helping the Blake Archive explore their relationship to Wikipedia as part of a GLAM-Wiki initiative as a Graduate Intern.

Possible users to involve

Some users that I might contact to help develop content include:

The following are some ideas of what I want to do while a volunteer and intern working with the Blake:

Copyright ironing out

Currently, the archive claims copyright to the reproductions of the images they produce: [1] . However, as any good Wikimedian would know, copyright claims to reproductions of public domain work just don't make sense within legal precedent and law within the United States (where the Blake Archive and Wikipedia are both hosted). For the Wikimedia reasoning, see commons:Commons:PD-art . I would like to work with the Blake Archive to explore other ways of rephrasing their licensing and then create an institutional template on Commons which captures the possible outside claims of copyright on the images created by the Archive (such as holding institutions in Britain, etc.).

Consistency of citing the archive on Commons and English Wikipedia

I would like to ensure that the Archive is fairly credited as the source of images and knowledge about Blake on both English Wikipedia and Commons. There are many instances of content not being attributed via links [2] and/or being presented inconsistently [3] . Additionally, the editorial board is aware of several copyright violations and/or plagiarism of text from the archive.

Creating content about Blake on Wikimedia Projects

I would like to fill in additional gaps in Blake content on Wikimedia Projects using the primary and secondary materials provided by the Blake Archive. In particular, I would like to eliminate red links on Template:William Blake, add new content based on the secondary materials offered by the archive, and ensure that the currently available Blake content does not exist unreferenced or stub quality.

Digital (and in person) editathon

Because the Archive is based in several major universities, their are several opportunities for both in person and digital editathons.
