Do you have anything to do with User:Deathphoenix? Redwolf24 07:37, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

Other than being markedly similarly named, no. I chuckled the first time I saw the name though. I think Deathphoenix might be participating in the Harry Potter WikiProject with me, I seem to recall running into him around there, but I know I've seen the name around. Why do you ask? EvilPhoenix talk 08:03, August 4, 2005 (UTC)
I was checking your edit count and it said almost 4000. I was gonna say hey congrats you have almost as much as me and your 1000th was only like 2 weeks ago so I was like HOLY CRAP! But then I saw your Evil, not death. Your 1500th is coming up :) Redwolf24 08:05, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
Yes I am indeed Evil, but not Death, nor Evil Death, 1000 was a month ago, I just added 1500 to my User page, and also noted your adjustment to my Babel thingy, which I came by to say thanks for. Now I have that spiffy little language thing that all the old farts have, so I'm one more step closer to that typical looking user page everyone has. Huzzah. Huzzah. EvilPhoenix talk 09:57, August 4, 2005 (UTC)

Red, can you define "Huzzah. Huzzah." for this old fart? -- Essjay · Talk 10:04, August 4, 2005 (UTC)

Huzzah=Yay. Plus Evil, I made your page not have three tables next to eachother and the text begins right after the table! It was awful looking! Mer, Redwolf24 20:21, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

Hey FML!! Just yesterday I was gonna go drop you a note to see if you were still with us nice to see you are. I'm good myself. Been working on any articles? Redwolf24 20:21, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
Hello! Well, in EN.WP I don't working, but at PT.WP yes. I want to know what you think about "fair use". And... Tell me anything about the EN.WP. What's up here? bye! thanks. --FML hi me at pt 04:28, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
Well I've been using and . As for Fair Use I love it and I feel the world would be a better place if all images were public domain... at least, photographs should be! Anyways I think User:Jimmy Wales, the founder of all wiki's, may be getting rid of all fair use images... which would suck anyways, nice to see you again! Redwolf24 04:42, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
Thank's for using Take a look at pt:Wikipedia:Sorrisos and get others ideas! I have created a bio-stub for the historian John K. Mahon. I found some really good information in an In-Memoriam article on the Organization of American Historians (OAH) web site, and have drafted a request for use. However, I am not clear on who holds the copyright on the material. Does it belong to the OAH or Mahon's Son/Grandson, who drafted the piece?

Vern Reisenleiter 17:22, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
I believe you can use it as a source but just dont copy word for word... Redwolf24 20:21, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

You closed this as a delete, but I think you deleted the target of the redirect. The article as listed on VfD still exists. The article you deleted was created by a move during the VfD, so obviously both can be deleted. By the way, Devolution (biology) which you closed is on WP:VfU, though not challenging your closure (and not put there by me!)-Splash 17:53, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

Bush/Tokenism Debate

[edit]

I saw your note on Essjay's page. I read the paragraph. I read the arguments. I typed half of my long comment to keep it, stopped, and left. I realized I don't know where I stand. I think it should be kept, but not in those words and not in the place. As is, it comes off as nothing more than to soften Bush's image on homosexuals. I don't think he is a 'big-homo-hater' as he was claimed to be at one point in the discussion. Bush just has a strict and narrow definition of the word 'marriage.' The paragraph is NPOV, up until that last line. I think it was conveniently placed there to create a last word proving Bush isn't a homophobe. The paragraph breaks down to this:

  • Oppostion to gay marriage (+1 homophobic point)
  • Supports civil unions and equal rights (-1, equality point)
  • Endorsed amendment banning gay marriage (+1)
  • Leaving issue up to states (-1, proving he isn't a totalitarian oppressing homosexuals)

So far, the magic number is 0. Now, factor in the final statement:

  • Repeats opposition to marriage (+1)
  • Appointed homosexual (-1)
  • Note regarding he isn't the first to do so (-1)

We are left with a -1, a value symbolizing that the article is pushing towards making him seem more gay friendly. The line that he wasn't the first to do so appears as his free ticket into the 'cool Prez club,' a club full of fair and just Presidents.

To make my wacky and long story short :P, I believe the part about him appointing a gay man is nothing more than a red herring and should be relocated to another part of the article, possibly under Major Appointees. And I would add this to the actual debate if I have half of clue of what I just tried to explain. x_x Ryan 05:46, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

Putting it under major appointees seems as if it may be making more out of it... Anyways I think, just leave it as it is. Also, I am Lance. Foo'! Redwolf24 05:50, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm no good when it comes to political debates. Wait... you're Lance? In that case, I don't have to share. You're all mine! :K Ryan 07:04, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

Have you introduced yourself yet to administrator User:RedWolf? Sorry, I know, I come in out of the blue with these weird things, but it's this kind of strangeness I love. Anyway, if you haven't, RedWolf is a good editor and worth meeting even without the delightful name coincidence. :-) I'm hoping you've already met and that there's an amusing conversation somewhere for you to point me towards, but if not, don't worry about replying. I had several excellent and bizarre conversations with User:Solipsist on his talk page when he first arrived, pondering whether or not I was a figment of his imagination. Question

[edit]

Ahhh. My friendly neighborhood admin. I have a question. How many times should I warn a vandal? S/he is deffinatly not in good faith. Howabout1 Talk to me! 02:39, August 6, 2005 (UTC)

varies from admin to admin. Such admins as Kat use all the {{Test}} templates. As for me if I see they've been warned before I'll give em a short block. Also their speed can be a factor. Redwolf24 02:40, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
You should also consider the severity of the vandalism.. A bunch of "he he"/ "ha ha"'s aren't really destructive, unless like Redwolf24 said, if they are doing a slew of them. But if they are really disruptive and/or obscene in nature, I would do at least {{test3}} before blocking, assuming they keep vandalising. Who?¿? 02:45, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

I like using regular text as it varies from time to time. Anyway red, check out User:4.250.78.18. It is serious vandalism. Howabout1 Talk to me! 02:47, August 6, 2005 (UTC)

Blocked for two days time. By the way what I just do is trust my instinct... But never block someone who's never been warned at all unless per se they are WoW... Redwolf24 02:51, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. Howabout1 Talk to me! 02:52, August 6, 2005 (UTC) {{spoiler}}

You can normally kill off vandals who do the following without warning them: Obscene image vandals, George W. Bush vandals, Snape Kills Dumbledore vandals... Redwolf24 02:55, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

Hehe, yea those pesky harry potter vandals are bad :) Who?¿? 02:59, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

That would be great. But sadly I feel that I cannot accept any nomination for six months. My last two have been so stressful I'm not sure if I'd accept even then. I'll just stick to complaning for six months. Having "wolf24" at the end of your name is now punishable by law. Hehe. I'll refrain from commenting on that one, well except for this, granted this is more of a statement, and a run-on sentence, than a comment. (Remembering freedom is not cheap.) D'oh!, I commented.. damnit. :) Who?¿? 03:45, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
Well cmon we only call them French Fries because of the illiteration. If I'm not mistaken the Italians invented them :O Redwolf24 03:47, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
How does a conversation starting with how to warn vandals turn into where french fries are from? Howabout1 Talk to me! 03:51, August 6, 2005 (UTC)
I'm hungry, aren't you hungry? We have too many wrong names for food, we'll never get them right. Like pizza isn't necessarily Italian pizza but we call it that, oh yea and the now controversial "good ole American apple pie". There just saying people, get over it, geez. The one I can never get over is hamburger. Does that mean its made from people from Hamburg? Who?¿? 03:54, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit]

Hi Mattwolf, yeah, log-out problem solved, thank you.

How do I access the native-English-speaker symbol that you have on your page?

Someone has inserted a 'category' on my page, which I don't mind; but when I hit the link, there are thousands of them. Is there a list of categories that are more likely to apply to a personal page?

Re: seeking copyright permission for a photo: is it enough to receive an email from the owner giving his/her permission? The copyright information is voluminous, and looks as though you need a specialised degree in it to cope.  :-) Tony 05:43, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

I'll do the english native for you myself. As for the category, I don't know too much about user cats. As for the owner sending pemission, we sadly don't allow that anymore just find a Public Domain version of whatever. Redwolf24 14:31, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

Mahalo (thanks) for the intro from IslandGyrl

[edit]

Ooh-ooh, looks like I'm already getting into playground fights with my comments on the Hawaiian Independence article. Seriously, though, I don't understand why that article exists, so short and incomplete, and separate from the Hawaii, History of Hawaii, and Hawaiian sovereignty pages. I mean, why have an article titled "Hawaiian Independence" (why is the second word in the title capitalized, by the way?) unless one is willing to give the idea a fair hearing, and not just reaffirm conventional U.S. POV? Sloppy, not up to Wikipedia standards. Dilemma. Oh well. IslandGyrl · Talk IslandGyrl 14:56, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

I know what Mahalo means... though I'm not sure how...... As for Hawaiian Independence, that should probably be Merged. I'll take a look at it. Redwolf24 15:03, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
Well actually it looks too long to merge. But I will move to Hawaiian Independence Movement, thats why its capitalized. Redwolf24 15:05, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

Adolph Hitler was NOT a vegetarian!

[edit]

Hitler actually outlawed vegetarian organizations (in 1933), so how in the world could he be considered one? He had some dietary restrictions ONLY BECAUSE of his longstanding gastrointestinal problems, but these restrictions did NOT make him vegetarian. Fritz Redlich documented some of his favorite dishes as sausages, liver dumplings, and game. The chef Dione Lucas, who worked at a hotel in Hamburg, recalled often preparing Hitler's favorite dish, stuffed squab. His personal chef, Willy Kannenberg, also remarked that Hitler loved sausages and caviar. The propaganda regarding Hitler's alleged asceticism included the obvious lies that he abstained from drinking and women too.

Anti-vegetarians (yes, there are some out there who evidently have nothing better to do) claim Hitler was veggie and get a big kick out of proclaiming this as some sort of victory for them. (Obviously, even if he had been veggie it would be meaningless in terms of moral comparison.)

Mary Chipman

2 things:
1) I don't remember calling Hitler a vegetarian.
2) I have dark brown hair. So did Hitler. Therefore, brownhaired people suck ;)

I read the policy, and where does it say non-admins can't close? Howabout1 Talk to me! 03:14, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

I'm entering Highschool so I gotta really step it up, so I won't be here too much during the school year weekdays. Redwolf24 03:29, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

I marked you as out, since you haven't edited in four hours. Also, have to tell you, I hate that orange bar of death spoof on your userpage! -- Essjay · Talk 12:57, August 8, 2005 (UTC)
What orange bar of death? Do you mean the orange bar of death on MY talk page? If you don't like that, I'll remove it.--Exir KamalabadiCriticism is welcomed! 15:03, August 8, 2005 (UTC)
