Quod Felix

I am a teacher at an independent school as well as a cleric in a mainline Protestant faith. These are both areas where (ideally) curious people come to learn more about the world. As a high school teacher with over 30 years experience, I have taught histories of many cultures as well as courses in Political Science and in Philosophy, Religion, and Ethics. I emphasize in my courses the importance of citing one's sources in research papers and the use of those bibliographies as springboards for additional study and inquiry. My political science course is largely experiential, where students draft bills, debate them, and volunteer on political campaigns of their choice. My identity as a priest is newly won, having been ordained only 2 years ago. I live on the cusp of a new era, when the church is seeking ways to provide a place for all inquiry into spiritual matters and concerns while also being a witness for change in the world. My bi-vocational career now is meant to be seen as a bridge between the secular and the sacred, a place more and more of us are being called to be. My academic degrees are also in two worlds, a Bachelor of Arts in History modified with Asian Studies (Dartmouth) and a Master of Science in Geography (U of WI-Madison). The coursework leading to my ordination was completed at Berkeley Divinity School at Yale and also at Hartford Seminary.

I am someone eager to further the dream of Diderot's Encyclopedia, the Enlightenment's greatest gift to the world, a place where all might have access to knowledge to better their lives and the lives of those they love.
