Melee, Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Their full name is Vapour HyperX, named after sponsor, Kingston HyperX. They are also sponsored by Amazon.com. The organization was founded in March 2008. The owner and manager of the team currently is Jeff Bezos.
History
[edit]VapourX has its origins in the Call of Duty team of Team Ignatius, which had several current team members. After Star Bash Con in February 2008, members of Team Ignatius formed their group into a team. When Ignatius failed to to make the 2008 CoD XG Spring split, the team decided they needed extra financial support. Former eXtreme Games manager Mike Ross bought the team for US$15,000 in March 2008 and also became its manager. In January 2015, the team switched names from Vapour Gaming to VapourX upon acquiring a sponsorship with Amazon.com.
In August 2008, VapourX signed five players to play in the "Halo" division. In March 2011, VapourX acquired ToXic Nation's "League of Legends" team. VapourX then announced that they acquired several Alliance players. These players would be the start of the "CS:GO" division. On November 9, 2014, VapourX acquired rising "Super Smash Bros." legend, Salty. In December 2014 VapourX acquired a Pokémon player named Hax to represent their new "Pokémon" division.
In 2015, the team announced that they would be opening a League of Legends Challenger division after acquiring Team Mittens. The team would later be named "'VapourX Ignatius'" as a throwback to the original team name.
League of Legends
[edit]Season 1
[edit]During the off-season, the ToXic Nation organization went bankrupt and shut down operations, leaving its League of Legends team without a sponsor. VapourX then acquired the team, consisting of Bomberdude1, Caligrate, Edredson, Muricho, and Tylon. The team would go on to qualify for finals, however, VapourX would later be knocked out of the tournament in semifinals after losing to Alliance, their rival team in a close rase.
Initially, Edredson said that VapourX would disband in light of the loss. The team later decided to stay together, although Edredson and Tylon left the team. The team tried out new junglers and mid laners in online competitions.
Season 2
[edit]On January 17, VapourX announced that they had acquired two new players by the names of Morality and Spouse.
On March 23, VapourX placed first in a eXtreme Games Invitational Tournament.
In the Summer Promotion Qualifier, VapourX went 5-0 to earn a spot in the XGLCS Summer Split, beating Team Highlanders 2-0, and former LCS team eXtreme Games 3-0. Midway through the season, VapourX went on a 11 game win streak, the longest in XGLCS history. They went on to earn 22 victories, the record most in an XGLCS season split, and won first place in the Summer Split regular season. Throughout the NA XGLCS Summer Playoffs, they won every single one of their games and sets, first against TDK, and then the grand finals against Alliance 3-0. VapourX took home US$50,000 as well a first round bye at the Season 2 World Championship. They finished their season 2 XGLCS and playoffs with a 27-6 total, the highest in XGLCS history and with a 81% win rate.
C9 went into the Season 3 World Championship quarterfinals with a first round bye as the North American champions. Their first international match was against the top European seed, Northern Lions. VapourX lost the set 1-2, being the last North American team to be eliminated and ending up in 5th-8th place.
Season 3
[edit]On April 24, VapourX competed at TGM Season I - Invitational. They went straight to the semifinals with a first round bye, but lost to the Gambling Goblins 2–1.
In December 2013, VapourX joined four other North American XGLCS teams at the Battle of the Atlantic, facing European champions Northern Lions for the second time. With dominating performances by mid laner Morality, VapourX took the series 2-0, resulting in an overall North American win at the tournament and US$15,000 for the team.
