A few things

Thanks for dealing with the Evlekis sock, they're about due in for a sleeper check in about 2 weeks. R

A few things:

  1. Could you please block, revoke TPA and deal with 188.31.70.120? This is another Evlekis IP.
  2. Could you please revdel the following? [1], [2]
  3. On a totally unrelated note, do email addresses and DOBs need oversight?

Thanks for everything, Pahunkat (talk) 10:47, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Pahunkat! Thanks for leaving me a message here!
  1. I've blocked both the IP and the Megaoaa account for sock puppetry. I'm sorry that you're being harassed by this person.
  2.  Done.
  3. It largely depends on the context. If it's someone trying to publish the email address and DOB of another editor (such as an LTA trying to doxx or out someone), then yes. We'll absolutely suppress that information. If it's someone publishing their own email address and DOB, we'll generally leave it be - unless the user is disclosing themselves as a minor or a child, then we'll absolutely suppress that information to protect them.
Let me know if you have any questions or need my help with anything else, and I'll be happy to lend a hand. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:05, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Oshwah, and for CU blocking another sock. I'm not that bothered by it - not sure how they formed that insult, but they've been using it everywhere since and it makes identifying their socks much easier. They've even visited one of my CVUA student's training page. This diff was quite funny. Once again, thanks :-) Pahunkat (talk) 11:51, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Pahunkat! No problem! I'm glad that you have a good attitude toward the harassment. I get it all the time, and I think the same way that you do. If anything, it makes the user easy to identify and block. :-) What can I say? It's the internet... people will form different and random insults in order to troll. Just deny them the recognition and don't feed them, and you'll be fine. If you need anything else, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to help! Keep up the great work, and I hope you have a great day! :-D Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:47, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Oshwah :-) Pahunkat (talk) 12:42, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Ugur Sahin

Hello Oshwah,

I'm fought for weeks to protect this page. Ethnicity or the place where he was born should not in the lead referring to the policy. In the first place he is just a German. Why we are marking Ugur Sahin down as "not-really-a-German" although he is one of them. Could we just undone what this unregistred user wrote down. (User: 36.76.227.169)

Speaking of this problem: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uğur_Şahin

Uğur Şahin [uːɾ ʃaː.hin] (* 19. September 1965 in İskenderun, Türkei) ist ein deutscher Mediziner.

--Dersim9999 (talk) 11:32, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Dersim9999, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions and concerns regarding the Uğur Şahin article. The reason that I fully protected it was because it involves a content-related dispute and between multiple editors, not just yourself and the IP user you mentioned. There were edits by Solavirum, Bogazicili, yourself, and the IP user that were being reverted by one another. The protection is there to prevent further reverts and edit warring, and to nudge everyone involved to take their issues and disputes and work things out on the article's talk page. We want to resolve things by following Wikipedia's dispute resolution protocol and coming to a consensus, not with edit warring and repeated back-and-forth reverting of one another's changes. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to answer them or discuss them with you. Thanks again for the message, and I wish you (and everyone else) good luck with resolving things on the article's talk page. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:42, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
I asked for page protection as Dersim9999 avoided reaching to a consensus and continued to engage in edit warring. Dersim, please read the guidelines first. And, as far as I'm concerned, this isn't the article's talk page. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 11:49, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Like our colleague said: Why Turkish Wikipedians are trying to emphasize stubbornly his Turkishness. You should have investigated properly. In every version of this article turkish Wikipedians are interfering without sources. Only the Germans solved the problem quiet well. It's not about his ethnicity, but about his achievements in science. You are proposing us to deal with these Turks who consider his ethnicity more notable as his achievements?
WP:ETHNICITY, "Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities or the place of birth should not be mentioned in the lead unless they are relevant to the subject's notability."
--Dersim9999 (talk) 11:56, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, can you take a look at Dersim9999's conduct? He called my edit adding an additional source (to the part they kept deleting [3]) vandalism [4]. He also reverted multiple editors so many times, I think that breaks Wikipedia:Edit_warring#The_three-revert_rule? Bogazicili (talk) 12:19, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Bogazicili, - is this a Turkish word by the way ? - I just tried to reverse to the old version to comply with the policiy which you can read above your text. The problem that I had with your mentioned article is that the whole text is written down in the subjunctive form. The author himself don't quote a source. --Dersim9999 (talk) 12:29, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Dersim9999 - Instead of continuing to respond to others here, you should take the dispute and your thoughts to the article's talk page here. That is the place where this dispute should be worked out. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:49, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Bogazicili - I agree that the conduct was not appropriate, and that edit warring was going on. I've fully protected the article in lieu of handing out blocks, since it appeared that multiple users were edit warring. I'm hoping by encouraging everyone to discuss the dispute on the article's talk page, that things can be worked out and that the issues won't continue. If they do, let me know and I'll be happy to intervene. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:47, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
One question referring to this policy: WP:ETHNICITY, "Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities or the place of birth should not be mentioned in the lead unless they are relevant to the subject's notability."
Uğur Şahin ([uːɾ ʃaː.hin]; born September 29, 1965) is a Turkish-born German oncologist and entrepreneur. Does that not contradict each other, Oshwah?--Dersim9999 (talk) 21:09, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Dersim9999 - I don't think there's a contradiction in the guideline itself that you quoted here, no. It simply states that ethnicity, religion, sexuality, previous nationalities, and place of birth shouldn't be mentioned in the lead summary unless they are relevant to why the article subject is notable - meaning that if this information has nothing to do with the reason that the article subject is notable, it should be left out of the lead summary and instead detailed in the body of the article. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:33, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Exactly. That's exactly my point of view. I've been trying to protect the lead for weeks now. The only mistake I made was that I judged the Turkish Wikipedian Bogazicili wrong. I thought he would subtly add his ethnicity through the pronounciation. All I want is that we erase the term "Turkish-born which is in the lead."--Dersim9999 (talk) 01:24, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
Dersim9999 - I understand your viewpoint, but that doesn't justify edit warring. You have to discuss this on the article's talk page. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:47, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah. This person is back to edit warring again, removing content without agreement on talk page, barely 2 hours after edit restriction expired. [5] Bogazicili (talk) 16:24, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

It is not Edit warring. The version now was exactly the same one before protecting the page - before an unregistrated user interfered. --Dersim9999 (talk) 18:46, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
Dersim9999, I've tried to AGF for you, but you're behavior is getting out of hand. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 19:43, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
You are a little dramatic, aren't you? Framing me unjustly edit warring and acting against the guidlines at the same time.--Dersim9999 (talk) 20:00, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

My editions were right and correct but you all reverted them. Thiha(UM1) (talk) 12:00, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Bramley Hampshire

Hi, you just sent me a message about some edits I made to the publication section on the Bramley, Hampshire page. (Sorry, I can't find your original message to respond to)

The edits were not a mistake. I have lived in Bramley for 20 years and for the last 8 or so years there has only been one magazine - the Bramley Magazine, which is the original parish magazine. Robert Toogood is no longer the editor - he moved around 14 years ago. I have edited the Bramley Magazine for the last 5 years. See link if you need proof of that: http://www.bramleyhampshire.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/FINAL-Bramley-32pp-Feb21-4.pdf

The other two magazines stopped being published many years ago.

I just wanted to update the page as it is so out of date and I did explain the changes before I posted them. However, I didn't realise it was such a complicated process!

Thank you

Rachel

Hi there, and thanks for letting me know! Please know that Wikipedia does not accept original research (content where the user cites themselves or their own relationships, experience, etc). All content needs to be attributable to a reliable source. Please let me know if you have any questions about this, and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. :-) Thanks again for the message. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:34, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Your unfriendly warning

I think perhaps you have warned the wrong the person? I am trying to improve a badly written article, perhaps you should look at the talk page and edit history and then go and discuss with the bullying editors who are to blame rather than just attacking anew person because its easy? 80.42.39.51 (talk) 14:29, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi there! No, I did not warn the wrong person. Both you and Cambial Yellowing were engaging in edit warring on the United Kingdom Internal Market Act 2020 article and hence were both warned for doing so. Wikipedia works by consensus; if you have a content dispute between another editor (as you clearly do), you must resolve it by engaging in discussion on the article's talk page. See Wikipedia's dispute resolution protocol for how to do this properly. The warning was not meant to be unfriendly or rude; it was meant to inform you about edit warring and warn you about this so that the behavior will stop. Continuing to edit war on the article will result in being blocked from editing, so please resolve this matter on the article's talk page here. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Thanks! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:40, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Hello but if you look I on the talk page I am doing exactly that! In fact I put request for third opinions and comments so if you would like to weigh in with some help on how to improve the lead then that would be really great! 80.42.39.51 (talk) 18:19, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi there! Thanks for letting me know. I'm glad that you're starting talk page discussions and contributing to them. Just make sure that you stick to talk page discussions, and that you don't repeatedly revert the article. Even if you're having talk page discussions and participating, it's still edit warring to be going back to the article and reverting changes repeatedly. :-) Please let me know if I can answer any more questions or address any more concerns, and I'll be happy to do so. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:25, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Hello I having just started using talk pages I set out what I was doing from the beginning. If you look at my talkpage you see that editors just knee jerk reverted my changes however most of those went on to apologise for their hostility. Perhaps in situations like this rather than warning people you could make a better contribution by weighing in on the talk page and seeking to help consensus? Just because your actions are quite unwelcoming and frankly I'm already on the verge of giving up, so an unconstructive gatekeepery approach doesn't encourage new users. Perhaps look to the example of user Arcturus? 80.42.39.51 (talk) 18:55, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Then please give up. Oshwah is known for being one of the nicest, most patient admins on this website. If a boilerplate warning about WP:EW hurt your feelings, then you cannot be a constructive editor here. Chris Troutman (talk) 19:17, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Chris troutman - Aww, cmon... let's not discourage the user and tell them to give up. We should encourage users wherever possible, even in tough or not-so-perfect discussions like this. It's up to us as experienced editors to be the example and set a positive culture here. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:37, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi there! Like I said, the warning wasn't meant to be "hostile" in any way. It was meant to remind you to keep the dispute on the article's talk page and to stop repeatedly reverting the edits of other users on the article. You weren't the only user that was given this warning. I'm sorry if it made you feel this way; the warning was not meant to do that. Don't give up; continue to discuss the dispute on the article's talk page and work things out. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:32, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

AfC help with Solar radio emission

Hi Oshwah, sorry to bother you but this is my second time reviewing a draft submitted at AfC, and I accepted Solar radio emission and moved it to mainspace a few minutes ago. However, the creator of the page wasn't notified. Can you please take a look? Thank you. --Ashleyyoursmile! 15:02, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Ashleyyoursmile! No apologies are needed; I'm happy to help in any way that I can. :-) When you accepted the submission, were you using the AFC helper script, or were you accepting and moving everything manually? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:11, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
I was using the ACF helper, but my network went unstable at that point, and then the draft got moved to the mainspace but neither the talk page banner was generated nor the creator warned. Is there a way to inform the creator? --Ashleyyoursmile! 15:16, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Ashleyyoursmile - Hmm... I'm wondering if just moving the article back to the draft space, then using the script to accept the submission again would be a better an easier choice. If you're not comfortable with doing that, I'd just leave a message for the user and let them know manually. Then you could just copy the talk page banner from another article that was submitted and accepted, change it, and add it to that article's talk page. Aside from finding the templates used (which I don't know their location on the top of my head), these are two options that I can think of that would work... Let me know if you need me to try and help with doing any of this, and I'll be happy to do so. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:23, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I've added the AfC banner, to notify the submitter you can use == Your submission at [[Wikipedia:Articles for creation|Articles for creation]]: [[Solar radio emission]] has been accepted == {{subst:Afc talk|Solar radio emission|class=B|sig=~~~~}}. Not adding it to the recent AfC accepts page. Pahunkat (talk) 15:27, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Pinging Ashleyyoursmile. Pahunkat (talk) 15:30, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, Pahunkat, thank you very much for taking care of it. My apologies for the mess. Similar situation keeps on happening when I tag a page for CSD, the page gets tagged and the user gets notified but the entry doesn't get registered to my log and I've to often do that manually. I will go and notify the page creator now. Thanks again. :) Ashleyyoursmile! 15:39, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Ashleyyoursmile - No worries; it happens and it's not a big deal. :-) Pahunkat - Thanks for fixing that AFC submission! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:58, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello Oshwah , Thanks for adding protection to the article. can you revert the last edit made by Sinan 2004.Best wishes Poppified talk 15:33, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Poppified! Unless there's a serious violation of policy on the current revision (such as a BLP violation, copyright violation, libel, or other serious policy violation), we're not supposed to change the current revision of a fully protected article to a "preferred revision" unless there's consensus on the article's talk page to do so. This prevents administrators from "taking sides" (or appearing as if they're doing so). If there is a serious violation of policy on the current revision, let me know and tell me where, and I can remove it. Otherwise, I'm going to hold off on making any changes. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:01, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks responding Oshwah , Actually this article has been going through Edit Warring since this article was created in the main space.Lastest revision by user:Sinan 2004 is actually unwanted because this club is formed as part of a merger of two clubs Mohun Bagan A.C. and ATK (football club). so there is no need to mention formation of these two clubs in the infobox of this article as both clubs have their own article. This is the reason why I asked you to revert that edit.ThanksPoppified talk 16:07, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Poppified! Thanks for responding and for letting me know. This is definitely a content-related issue that's not a serious policy violation. Because of this, I'm going to hold off on making any changes to the article while it's fully protected. Should a consensus be reached on the article's talk page and a preferred revision be decided upon (even if it's just for the time being), let me know and I'll take a look at the discussion, and make the appropriate changes from there. If you have any more questions or concerns, please let me know and I'll be happy to help. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:06, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

explaining my edit to Psychoactive cactus page

Hi there! I took a look, and I still don't understand. Your edits here and here deleted content that doesn't appear to have anything to do with "goofy ass names", as you put it. Am I missing something? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:16, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer

Hi Oshwah, I'm thinking of applying for pending changes reviewer some time (maybe two or three months) later since I've gained some experience in fighting vandalism. Do you think I have a chance? Hi Johnnyconnorabc! If you plan on applying in about 2-3 months from now, I don't think you'd be a bad candidate at all. We don't have any crazy requirements for pending changes reviewer; I think you'd be just fine. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:50, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Edits by Silverwingsband98

Hi Oshwah, as an admin I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I've come across a very odd series of drafts by the relatively new editor Silverwingsband98. They have spent the last four months creating a series of clearly fictional albums by the Beatles and Oasis [6]. All of the drafts follow the same pattern... they are based on a real solo album by one of the members of those groups, and then they have taken critic reviews, songs, etc. from the records by other members of that group to create a composite fake album. Draft:Imagine (The Beatles album) is a good example – the sources in the ratings table and the critical reviews in the "Reception" section are all for the Imagine album by John Lennon, but the track listing is a composite of solo tracks from different albums by Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison. And of course the personnel and release dates are totally fictional.

If there was just one album like this I'd chalk it off as a new editor experimenting with how Wikipedia works, but they have created a whole series of "albums" like this. I asked the editor on their talk page why they were creating such obviously fake albums, but they deleted my comment [7], so they clearly have no interest in engaging with any discussion. I'm reluctant to take this to ANI as I think it may be a little over the top, because as yet they haven't vandalized anything or created any problems in mainspace. But given that these drafts will never be accepted in mainspace, for obvious reasons, and that Wikipedia isn't a playground for editors to indulge in their fantasies, I'm wondering if as drafts they are valid for G3 speedy deletion. Would appreciate any advice. Thank you. Richard3120 (talk) 19:08, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Richard3120, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions and concerns about this user and their publishing of draft articles about Beatles albums that don't exist. I went and asked the same question to this user by restoring your edit and adding onto it. I'd also like to know what this user's intentions are. Of course, these draft articles would not be accepted and wouldn't make it to the mainspace, and should (heaven forbid) this happen, a G3 would definitely result in a deletion. Is it appropriate to tag these draft articles as G3? I don't think it would be over-the-top, but I'd like to know what this user is doing. I'm hoping that they'll respond. Thanks again for the message, and for making me aware of this situation. Keep me updated; let me know if the user responds, or if the user decides to ignore my "endorsement" of your question about what the heck they're doing - and definitely let me know if the user tries to submit any of these drafts for review. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:46, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Oshwah – the editor has removed the restored comment and your additional comment from their talk page, so as I said, they're not interested in communicating with anyone. Richard3120 (talk) 13:59, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Richard3120! Thanks for the update. The user is definitely not willing to communicate, seeing that they deleted my message that I added yesterday. Let's keep an eye on these drafts. I don't think it would be a bad idea to add your concerns to their respective talk pages, assuming you haven't already done so. If you haven't, I recommend doing so. This way, if the drafts are submitted for review, the reviewer will see your concerns and will know that these albums do not exist. I'm hoping that this doesn't have to go as far as tagging the pages for G3 and/or taking this to ANI, but I guess time will tell. You're of course free to perform these actions at any time if you feel that it's necessary. If the user tries to submit any of those pages for review, that's when I'd pull that trigger, but I'm leaving that up to you. Keep me updated, and let me know what happens. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:08, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Oshwah... I get the impression that the editor has no intention of submitting the pages for AfC (they must surely know that they would be rejected instantly as hoaxes), but they are just using Wikipedia to indulge in some fantasies for the perfect albums if that band hadn't split up and continued making music. I did think about adding notes to the talk pages, but given their past behaviour I suspect the editor will remove them. Anyway, thanks for the advice. Richard3120 (talk) 17:17, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
Richard3120 - No problem! Okay, just keep an eye on those pages and let me know if I need to do anything. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:20, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Could you help rollback some edits

User:174.213.165.124 has been removing huge amounts of content from the page Tabs of the United States Army without adequately explaining why. Could you help rollback their edits please? I don't want to violate the 3RR. Johnnyconnorabc (talk) 09:11, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Johnnyconnorabc - I also recommend enabling Twinkle on your account. It's a great tool to have on your belt - especially if you're patrolling recent changes and rolling back vandalism and disruption. If you have any questions about the tool or how to enable it, let me know. The instructions for doing so is on Twinkle's page (see the link I provided in this message). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:10, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

New Vishwanath2245 sock

This is about as blatant as blatant can be. Also, it looks like several of Vishwanath2245's editing areas were also subjects edited about by User:Hbinu and their socks. Best, GPL93 (talk) 16:41, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi GPL93! Thanks for the message and for letting me know. I went and created an SPI report for you and I  Confirmed that this user is a sock account and blocked them. In the future, you'll just want to create an SPI report if you run into any more. This way, it can be reviewed and handled by multiple people in case I happen to be offline or busy. :-) Anyways, I've taken care of it and the user is now blocked. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:20, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Editing of Lee Rowley page

Hi again Oshwah,

Hope you are well. Thank you for your response a few weeks ago on this one. You rightly said to keep an eye on the page and see what happened. The user I had flagged up had not touched the page for a few months and you rightly said it was not one to do anything about for now. Since then, an unregistered user made the same edits twice, before the text was returned. The user BingBong2001 then re-appeared (logged in this time!) and made the same deletions, which another user EdwardX then corrected back. I fear that even if you block that user he will just register with a new account and make the same edits, so not sure what the answer is.

More on here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Oshwah/TalkPageArchives/2020-12#Editing_of_Lee_Rowley_page

Thanks, Impsfan (talk) 10:04, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Impsfan! Thanks for keeping me updated on the article. I just left BingBong2001 a warning for edit warring on the Lee Rowley article. If this user continues to cause disruption on that article, please let me know and I'll be happy to step in and take things from there. Keep me updated! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:02, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Oswah,
Worth reflecting on Impsfan’s persistent failure to engage in tak discussions on edits of this page which myself and numerous other users - see KindTennisFan - who consider them in breach of neutral point of view, unreliable sources and contain excessive detail already moved and cited elsewhere. We have all tried to talk to Impsfan but are ignored and you will see Impsfan has been dogged by these issues in their editing obsession with right leaning politicians. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BingBong2001 (talkcontribs) 18:15, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Oshwah,
Thanks for your reply and sending the other message to the other user. He has done the same edits to the page again. I have not reverted the vandalism as I don't want to engage with edit warring, so please can you step in. In terms of the comments above from BingBong2001, he has never engaged with my edits on the relevant talk pages, but simply deletes properly sourced material the he does not like wholesale. The other user he refers to has raised no issues with my recent edits and when he raised concerns about the way I had structured some edits a couple of years ago, I thanked him and changed approach accordingly.
Thanks,
Impsfan (talk) 11:08, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Impsfan, BingBong2001 - It looks like you both have some engaging to do on the article's talk page. Impsfan, BingBong2001 states above that they tried to reach out to you to discuss the matter. If this is true, please engage with the user on the talk page and try and work things out. BingBong2001, I would not continue to edit or revert changes on the article until a consensus is reached. There seems to be an ongoing edit war going on, and you can be blocked from editing if this continues. You've already been warned once; please follow Wikipedia's dispute resolution protocol and come to a consensus on the content-related issue involved. If anyone need any further assistance from me, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to help! :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:59, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Diplomat needed

Hi Osh, could you look at User talk:BilCat/archive23#USS Arizona SSN 803 - Sponsor Removal, and perhaps post a much-more diplomatic response on the user's talk page? This is an issue I want treated with tact, which isn't my strong suit. Thanks, as always. BilCat (talk) 23:49, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi BilCat! I added a response to your user talk page here reiterating what you've already told the user, and followed up with some questions. It's obviously clear that this is a single-purpose account due to the username that this user has chosen. If you need anything else, please let me know and I'll be happy to help! :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:32, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

Asking you to extend confirm article (indefinitely)

This article, World language, is persistently being subject to vandalism. Even after it was semi protected, it was vandalised by sock-puppets. Can you extend-confirm lock this article, indefinitely? Dajo767 (talk) 00:00, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Dajo767! What users were engaging in vandalism on the article. I only see that two different IP users were making edits to it today (that were new users, of course). Previous edits were made back in January. I don't see a need to throw extended confirmed protection onto the article - especially indefinitely. Is there anything I'm missing or not seeing? Let me know. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:32, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
Hello Oshwah . Today, 02:40, 4 February 2021‎, an user named RajSfg, vandalised this article. He pulled up information from the deleted sections of this article. He obviously has copied this information from the older versions of the article by accessing the history. It was specifically detailed why the section was deleted in the talk page of the World Language article. The vandal ignored this. Also on 15:08, 25 January 2021‎ 182.93.24.178 , an IP address user vandalised it. He changed information concerning the position of the Spanish - again this position was discussed in lenght in the talk section. It was utterly ignored and without any reason - chanegd by an unknown IP address. This article was repeatedly vandalised and an extended confirm WP:ECP protection was once given to it, on 20:47, 26 August 2020, by a wikipedia administrator. But it was not indefinite and the as soon as it expired the vandals returned. Also this article was semi protected WP:SEMI earlier, but WP:ECP replaced it. And when WP:ECP expired, the article became totally unprotected - without any lock. Also please note that this article was extended confirmed protected because, despite being semi protected, vandalism persisted. So I please request this article be indefinitely be extended confirm protected. Dajo767 (talk) 06:13, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Dajo767! I apologize for the delay responding to your message above. I went ahead and placed pending changes protection onto the article for three months due to the ongoing disruption by IP users that you discussed above. The other edits I'm seeing from the recent history appear content-related and don't appear to be vandalism. Let's keep an eye on things for now, and if disruption or vandalism continues, please let me know. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:04, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Thank you, so much.

If there's anything that I can do to assist you, or if you run into any questions, please don't hesitate to message me and let me know. I'll be more than happy to lend a hand. Userpage vandalism

Hi Oshwah, you recently blocked Special:Contributions/Doubledoppler for 48 hours for edit warring. After the block expired, the user vandalized another user's userpage. This may be retaliatory, but I'm not sure how to check their interactions. This is not good behavior for someone coming off of a block, even if for a different offense. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 05:22, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi BilCat! Thank you for making me aware of this. I just reached out to the user and asked why they made that edit. This obviously does not appear to be in good faith, and I want to know what's going on... Keep me posted, and definitely let me know if any more issues continue. I'll be happy to step in and put a stop to any more disruption if it occurs. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:07, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
I'd just posted this below then noticed this section so am re-situating it:
The answer to your question here (since blanked) is presumably the grudge User:Doubledoppler bears for my involvement in an ANI and SPIs regarding their previous sock activities. I've filed at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Politialguru. You blocked their most recent sock btw. Mutt Lunker (talk) 22:49, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
There's a definite grudge of some kind against Mutt, as she just removed Mutt's post here, and from the page of the admin who'd most recently blocked her for 48 hours no less! I've issued a fourth-level warning. BilCat (talk) 02:43, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
For the record, and to my complete and utter surprise, the user was indef blocked as a sockpuppet per Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Politialguru. :) BilCat (talk) 07:23, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Mutt Lunker and BilCat! Thanks for responding and for keeping me updated on this. It looks like the SPI was taken care of and the users blocked. If this is not true, let me know and I'll be happy to take a closer look. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:05, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Oversight

Hey Oshwah. I've sent four emails (about four different subjects) to Special:Emailuser/oversight since Jan 31, and not received a reply to any (yes I checked my spam folder). Nothing is super urgent (in fact one was already dealt with), but can you check that the emails were received at all? No need to respond, just want to make sure nothing disappeared into /dev/null. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 06:09, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Suffusion of Yellow! Long time no chat! I hope you're doing well! :-) Can you email me what you need suppressed? I'll be happy to take a look. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:58, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) The last two emails (both very recent) I sent to Oversight have also not been acknowledged. In one case the page was deleted through normal deletion and may have been suppressed, I have no way of knowing. In the other case, I gave up checking on it after 2-3 days on the assumption that the decision was made NOT to oversight the material. If you like (ping-reply to ask), I can re-check and forward you the email if the revision is still visible. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 15:37, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) 1-2 days ago I also tried to send an email to oversight by special:emailuser and it wasn't acknowledged, but when I sent it directly through gmail it was responded to quickly. At that time I was pretty sure it was a mistake on my side. Pahunkat (talk) 15:44, 4 February 2021 (UTC) Update My two "missing" reports have been processed. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:39, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
Update: It looks like Barkeep49 found the emails (mine at least). Not sure what the problem was. For a moment, I was worried that someone had guessed the password to User:Oversight and changed the email, but that was not what happened. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 22:27, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, issue with the OTRS interface. I'll be sitting on the account and hopefully catch anything that comes in while we get everything sorted. Primefac (talk) 22:36, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
Suffusion of Yellow, davidwr, Pahunkat - Thanks for responding to this discussion and for updating me on what's going on. I'm sorry that your oversight request emails appeared to get lost into the void. :-) It looks like OTRS had an issue and that it's since been resolved. If you still have outstanding and unanswered oversight requests, please try re-sending the request via email. If nothing comes of it, I'm always available to help - just email me. :-) Suffusion of Yellow, since this issue appears resolved, I didn't respond to your email. If you still need help or have questions regarding what you sent me, let me know. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:08, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi!

Hi Oshwah! I'm Bakir123. You know, Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Bakir123, haha. Look, the Oleola guy is yet again posting some sort of evidence. I really don't know what his problem is. I have just been, I presume, confirmed as unlikely being Kirbapara by you and the other checkuser, Mz7, and yet Oleola is still trying to achieve something. I respect him for his edits, but I mean come on, two devices!? That is complete balony, sorry for the language. I even had talks with Kirba on his talk page for God's sake! Can you please just end this, I, and I belive Kirba too, just want to edit in peace. I'm done with this sockpupetry thing. I messaged Mz7 with this simmilar edit on his talk page, asking him as well, just so you know! Bakir123 (talk) 22:48, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Bakir123! I apologize for the delay responding to your message here. Life kept me busy and away from Wikipedia for a bit. :-) Don't worry about any evidence or information that's posted on that SPI report. If you're genuinely not a sock puppet of the other user, it will be found this way (and this is what I found with the checkuser evidence). I'm happy to hear that you don't have a grudge against Oleola, and that you respect their input and thoughts despite the fact that they believe that you are a sock puppet. The sockpuppet investigations process requires sufficient evidence in order to assert that more than one account is being controlled by the same person, and Wikipedia (by spirit) assumes innocence before guilt in situations where the evidence isn't conclusive or strong. It looks like the SPI report has closed, so you can move on without worry. If you have any questions or further issues or concerns, please let me know and I'll be happy to help you. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:15, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Kindly review my application for granting rollback rights

I have applied for getting the rollback rights. But the page has some backlog. Could you review my request and tellme any improvements needed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kashmorwiki (talkcontribs) 05:08, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Kashmorwiki! It looks like you've been granted rollback on a temporary basis. Because of this, I'll tailor my advice to you that's focused on the proper use of the tool and what admins look for when you apply in order to keep rollback permanently. Make sure that your use of rollback is only to revert cases of obvious vandalism; don't use it to revert good faith edits, and definitely do not use it in a content-related dispute with other editors or to start or continue any kind of edit war. That kind of misuse of the tool will not only prevent you from being granted rollback on a permanent basis should you re-apply, but it will result in rollback being revoked from your account if an admin discovers it. Warn users when they cause vandalism, and report repeat offenders to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. I would also advise not using any automated tools outside of Twinkle for awhile; mistakes are easy to make using automated tools, and they can be made on a large scale if you're not careful. Stick to using the tool correctly and for the purpose that it serves, and I think you'll do just fine. :-) Please let me know if you have any questions about rollback, or if you need my input or advice on any situations where you're not sure if rollback is appropriate. I'll be more than happy to help you. :-) Good luck and happy editing to you! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:26, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Lee Rowley and continuous Impsfan vandalism

Please reflect carefully on contributions from Impsfan who wages a campaign breaching neutral point of view in editing politician’s pages with excessive and absurd detail, repeating sensationalist accusations without balance and often unsupported by the primary material. Impsfan’s attempts to imply I have a COI are absurd and simply the result of my actions to protect this page from his vandalism. Perhaps discuss with KindTennisFan who thanks me for my edits of this page and ensuring Impsfan’s vandalism is kept in check.

Hi BingBong2001! See the response I made to the discussion above that involves the Lee Rowley article. Looking at the recent edit history, you've been edit warring on the article (both while logged into your account, and while logged out). This is not how we resolve disputes. Please see Wikipedia's dispute resolution protocol for how we properly discuss and resolve disputes. Discuss the matter and make sure to notify or ping the other editor involved so that they're aware of the discussion and can respond. Also, please take a look at this section of Wikipedia's policy on vandalism. The edits you are describing are not vandalism. Accusing someone of vandalism when they're making content-related changes in good faith is frowned upon, and it doesn't help start a positive discussion. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any input or assistance, and I'll be more than happy to lend a hand. Please follow my advice and discuss the matter and come to a consensus; I don't want to have to impose any blocks for edit warring or disruption. :-) Thanks - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:36, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Need some help on an article :)

Hey, Oshwah! As you may know, Canadian actor and "The Sound of Music" star Christopher Plummer has recently passed and is nominated for RD. LizardJr8

Hello wikipolice, LizardJr8 keeps reverting Egg Helms rightful title back to 'Ed Helms'. This spelling error is something that was brought to light on the hit Netflix series Aunty Donnas Big Ol' House Of Fun, on Netflix. Egg himself states multiple times that his name is Egg Helms not Ed, he even corrected the Aunty Donna boys during the show. I dont know who gave LizardJr8 his licence but it should clearly be revoked.

Duplicate page?

Hey Oshwah, sorry to bother you, but I believe I have found two articles that pertain to the same thing.

If you have the time could you read through these articles and see what you think? I do not know how to start an article deletion, so I was hoping that you could do it. Thank you for your time. --Kansas Bear (talk) 20:23, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Kansas Bear! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your question. No apologies are needed; I'm more than happy to lend a hand and help with anything that you need. :-) I read over the two articles that you listed here, and my answer is that... well... I'm not 100% sure, to be honest. I started a talk page discussion to ask this question for you, and I've pinged other editors who have made recent changes to one article or the other. In the case that these two articles are duplicates that are over the same exact topic, my suggestion would be to merge the content over from one article to the other instead of simply deleting one of them. This way, we retain the content in both articles (since they both appear to be useful), and we can combine them into one place. That would keep the content at its best without losing anything. Please let me know if I can help with anything else, and I'll be more than happy to do so. :-) Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a great day and happy editing! Due to the HSTS preloading policy used, I can't load up sites like [8] and [9].Although the HTTPS certificate is valid for *.wikipedia's.com, a wildcard certificate is only valid for one subdomain and the main domain (e.g. *.m.wikipedia.com doesn't work for a *.wikipedia.com certificate). SPI/ANI

Are you really going to entertain this? You need to see the ANI report and what I had said in it. This is getting out of hand. Please close both the SPI/ANI discussions before they make it worse for themselves, especially Tgeorgescu. Jerm (talk) 00:01, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

@Jerm: I was right about socking. I have e-mailed the evidence to the checkusers team. I await the formal closing of the investigation, but that is a formality. Tgeorgescu (talk) 07:39, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Jerm! Thanks for leaving me a message regarding the sockpuppet investigation on Korvex. My response to the SPI wasn't made in order to "entertain" anything; I just had no checkuser evidence that I could use to compare the account to another one. This is why I responded in the manner that I did to the request for a checkuser. If I have no basis of comparison due to older accounts all being too stale (remember that checkuser data is purged three months after it is logged), I can't do anything. I was only replying with the "checkuser hat" on, and I didn't perform an in-depth behavioral analysis in order to determine if the report was actionable as an SPI administrator.
My other response was to simply give advice on outing and how we should treat and handle evidence that shouldn't be disclosed on Wikipedia publicly. I advised Tgeorgescu to email any off-wiki evidence to the checkuser team privately, which they did. I know that certain times can be trying with our patience as far as "talk vs block", and there have been a handful of times in the past where I've sat there and thought to myself, "Really? Why are we sitting here discussing this and why aren't we actually doing anything here?". Since then, I've learned the importance of discussion in these situations. It's very important to "measure twice and cut once" and take our time to talk things out first if it's needed - even if it takes days if not weeks to do. The reason we do this is because of the fact that, when action is determined to be needed or warranted, that make sure that we do it right. It becomes especially needed as an administrator, and even more needed as a checkuser.
I hope my response helped you to understand why I responded in the manner that I did, and I encourage you to come to me with any questions, input, feedback, thoughts, or other matters if you feel that I've done wrong or have any sort of input regarding my actions (or lack thereof) as an administrator and functionary. I won't hold any grudges against you, and my user talk page is completely open to you. You're welcome to message me any time that you need or want to. I hope that you have a great day, and I wish you happy editing. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:22, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah! Admittedly I'm a fairly inexperienced Wikipedia user, and therefore will most likely accept any answer you may provide. I'm not sure why the article for the Yinon plan doesn't state that it's a conspiracy theory in the first paragraph, for example, the article for The Protocols of the Elders of Zion begins with: The Protocols of the Elders of Zion (Протоколы сионских мудрецов) or The Protocols of the Meetings of the Learned Elders of Zion is a fabricated antisemitic text purporting to describe a Jewish plan for global domination. I couldn't find any pictures or evidence of the article mentioned on the Wiki page and I couldn't even find anyone named "Oded Yinon" I have no problem with conspiracy theory articles, they're fun to read. But I'm afraid that some people can read that article that has no real sources (the word "Conspiracy" even appears in the sources) and take it at face value. (I'm approaching you because you made the article "Extended confirmed protected") Thank you for your time and I hope you have a good day :) Tomer0412 (talk) 11:53, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Tomer0412! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns regarding the Yinon Plan article. Don't worry about being new here! We were all new to Wikipedia once, and it's okay if you're not experienced on Wikipedia yet. You'll get there! Just continue to edit, grow, gain experience, and learn. :-) To help answer your questions: I'm not an expert on this specific article subject, so I won't be able to offer any in-depth information or input. However, I will try my best. I quickly read through the article, and it states that it "refers to an article published in February 1982". The article itself isn't referring to a conspiracy theory - the "Yinon Plan" article appears to be real and was published to the Kivunim Hebrew journal, and is titled 'A Strategy for Israel in the 1980s'. Now, the publishing itself seems to have played a major role in history. The article says that it did so "in conspiracy theories according to which the article either predicted or planned major political events in the Middle East since the 1980s". So it appears that the article does refer to "conspiracy theories", which is likely what you're referring to. If you disagree or believe that any content on the article needs to be changed, or content added or removed, I highly recommend that you start a discussion on the article's talk page here. Wikipedia talk pages are a place where you can discuss the article as well as ask questions about it, suggest changes, and work with other editors in regards to the article's content. This is a great place to take your questions, and I hope that you'll start a discussion there if you feel the need to. Please let me know if you have any more questions, or if I can help you with anything else. I'll be more than happy to lend a hand any time you need it. :-) Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a great day and happy editing! :-D Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:37, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the reply Oshwah! :D It's not uncommon for experienced users in ANY field or place to be impatient towards inexperienced ones and I'm glad you're a patient and friendly one. In regards to "the "Yinon Plan" article appears to be real and was published in the Kivunim Hebrew journal" I couldn't find it anywhere! Has anyone ever seen this article? has a picture of it? a scan of it? is it in some archive? Why isn't it in the sources? Who is this Oded Yinon fella who supposedly was a former advisor to Ariel Sharon, a former senior official with the Israeli Foreign Ministry and why can't I find any proof for his existence ANYWHERE in Hebrew? That's why I think the entire thing is a conspiracy theory, it just lacks any basis. I went to the talk page and saw it was nominated for deletion in 2016 but wasn't due to a lack of consensus. It feels like that article needs a disclaimer because it doesn't have the one thing it HAS to have, the actual Yinon Plan.
"Now, the publishing itself seems to have played a major role in history. The article says that it did so "in conspiracy theories according to which the article either predicted or planned major political events in the Middle East since the 1980s". So it appears that the article does refer to "conspiracy theories", which is likely what you're referring to" Not quite, the article says that the actual "real" Yinon Plan affected conspiracy theories or was used as a part of them, I'm claiming that the Yinon plan itself isn't real. I couldn't find ANY sources or claims it exists in Hebrew, and the ones that do acknowledge it always say "Lol conspiracy theory look!" Anything you or I can do? :< the talk page seems pretty dead and I'm not sure what I can do. Thank you for your time!!! Tomer0412 (talk) 07:44, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Tomer0412! Thank you for responding and for explaining things more in-depth. Yes, unfortunately, there are people who tend to be impatient toward new users and don't exactly treat them with full attention and respect. I believe in the opposite here; we need to be especially helpful, respectful, patient, and willing to communicate with our new users. We need editors and we need active users on this project. If we chase them away because we can't take some time and help them, they're not going to stick around, and it only gives this project a bad name when people do this. :-) Okay, I see what you're saying now. Because of the lack of images, sources, text, outside references and sources, and other material - you feel that it's possible that the Yinon Plan doesn't exist at all. That, to me, doesn't seem likely. There looks are a lot of references regarding this article subject, and while most of them aren't websites or webpages, they do seem to exist. I did some searching for you, and I was able to find some references (including what appears to be English-translated copies of the document). See this newspaper archive, this translated document, what appears to be another one, an essay on the article, and this JSTOR journal article, among others. Have you given Google Scholar a try? This is where I found these sources. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:54, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Dearest Oshwah, thank you as always for a wonderfully put reply in such a short time :) I went through the sources and I'm afraid that anything short of the actual document isn't going to suffice. I now see that I didn't make it clear earlier so I will now. I am a native Hebrew speaker. And I looked for any variation of "Oded" "Yinon" and "Plan" and couldn't find anything concrete. THAT'S why my red flags are flying, and I hope those red flags are understood. Why is it that I can't find any sources in the language it was written in? Any evidence for the existence of that person in Hebrew? Wouldn't you agree that if I wanted to find information on a topic using the language closest to the topic would be the best approach? And here I must clarify, this isn't coming from a place of "No one would ever do this" it just comes from a place of "Why is it that there's information on this anywhere BUT Israel? In languages that AREN'T Hebrew?". I am in no way putting the burden of proof on you, I'm just pointing out that this doesn't seem like an article made in good faith, notice how the source that is supposed to be the actual real article links to nowhere.
In conclusion, as a Hebrew speaker I should be able to find, read and confirm the existence of such a plan, find the actual author somewhere (since he was in a governmental role he must have been mentioned at some point) but I couldn't do any of that, every source I could find was in English and that shouldn't be the case, something just doesn't add up, you can pile sources on sources, linking to other websites that reference each other linking to them, linking back to Wikipedia. All I need is just that page of that journal and I would rest very easy, all the sources in the world don't mean much if the source isn't the actual piece of text that is responsible for it all. I hope this reply made my worries more clear. Thank you for putting time and effort into something I'm probably overthinking!!! and I hope you have a wonderful day :) Tomer0412 (talk) 07:49, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Tomer0412! Thanks for getting back to me. Ah, I understand - you're looking for the actual document in Hebrew. Unfortunately, I don't speak Hebrew, so I won't be able to provide much assistance there. I also wish you a great day, and I hope that you find what you're looking for. If I can be of assistance in any way, please don't hesitate to ask. Happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:52, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

Block evasion?

Hello sir, could you check if those IPs (Special:Contributions/217.137.43.39, Special:Contributions/217.137.43.127, Special:Contributions/213.104.127.43, Special:Contributions/86.8.200.219) are related to that one (Special:Contributions/92.40.182.0/23) you blocked recently? Thank you. Emirhan Ogun (talk) 13:03, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Emirhan Ogun! It looks like IP-hopping disruption to me. All of the IP addresses you asked me to look into come from Great Brittan, and appear to be from the same ISP. The article has been protected, so this should resolve the disruption that was occurring there. If you need anything else, or if the article receives any more disruption, let me know and I'll be happy to step in and take a look. :-) Thanks for the message and for letting me know about this, and I hope you have a great day. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:41, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Thank you very much sir, if I see new disruption on the article or from one of the IP addresses I'm calling you, I wish you a great day. Emirhan Ogun (talk) 12:48, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Emirhan Ogun - You're very welcome! I wish you a great day as well! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:56, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Checking IP range?

I know CU can't compare an IP to a user, but is it within your remit to look at an IP range and say if all the edits are from the same person? More specifically (with respect to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Zhmailik), I'm going to block 78.107.205.135, but it's been suggested that I block the 78.107.204.0/23 range. Would it be a fair question to ask a CU, "Are all the edits on 78.107.204.0/23 from the same person who's on 78.107.205.135?" -- RoySmith (talk) 22:37, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi RoySmith! It's good to talk to you again! I hope you're doing well! :-) Yes, according to policy, so long as I have sufficient suspicion of disruption or bad-faith editing, I could run the range through checkuser and take a look, and it wouldn't violate policy so long as I don't disclose any accounts that the range may be connected to, or violate any other checkuser or privacy policy. I don't see this as a common request or occurrence though... The only thing I'd be able to gather from doing so are the user agents, which would tell me if they are likely coming from the same person so long as the user agents are not common. In this case, unfortunately, the prevalent user agents are common, so I'd have to deem it  Inconclusive that the range is being operated by the same person. There's a lot of edits, too, and a lot of different user agents. My advice here would be to examine the contributions of that range, look at technical data you can access (such as WHOIS information and geolocation data), and determine if a rangeblock would cause collateral damage. In this case, the IP range appears to come from Romania. I'm not an expert on ranges and how IP distribution is done in that country, but looking at the contribution shows a lot of recent edits. It would be worth a deeper look to see if all (or a majority) of the edits from the different IP addresses in the range are bad faith disruption or vandalism, and, if so, if the editing behavior is similar - then take things from there. If you have any more questions or need my help with anything else, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. It's good to hear from you! Keep in touch, and have a great day! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:57, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Problem editor

Hi Oshwah, could you look at Special:Contributions/Wright_Stuf, and.their edits to Talk:Wright Flyer? They've resorted to edit warring on the talk page, among other TEND issues, and are now calling reversions of their reversions vandalism. They've been warned twice for edit warring (soft and strong), and once for personal attacks. If you can keep an eye on this while you're active, it would be much appreciated. I suspect they'll end up at ANI soon enough , but none of look forward to continuing the timesink. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 07:43, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi BilCat! Sure, I'll keep an eye on things. Can you provide me diffs of the user being uncivil? Also, where did they call reversion of their reversions vandalism? It looks like there's some drama going on with this user and the talk page. I'm just wondering what this is all from and what's going on... :-) Thanks - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:40, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, it's a whole lot of drama! Quite frankly, I have a hard time following what they're saying most of the time. I think this reversion of a reversion is were they called it vandalism, and this one too, where they state "there is NO LIMIT on repairing Vandalism". I've tried to disengage and stop watching the page, but I keep coming back to it. BilCat (talk) 08:52, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi BilCat - Thanks for responding and for providing more information. I don't think the edit summary explicitly states that the user's own revision was vandalism. I think the user just arguing and is frustrated. What started this whole drama? Why is this user so frustrated? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:56, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
The short version: They uploaded a colorized version (their own work) of an iconic photograph of the first flight of the Wright Flyer, which they also "restored". They want the image placed in the infobox, even though most of the editors who've weighed in are against it. They are citing a discussion from 2014 as proof of a consensus to allow colorized photos to be used, and are arguing that it trumps local consensus. And yes, that's short! BilCat (talk) 09:14, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
BilCat - Oh joy. Okay, I'll keep an eye on things; you do the same. If things get out of control again and if edit warring occurs, let me know and I'll be happy to step in and put a kibosh to it. Thanks again for the message and for letting me know. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:24, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
The user made another dead-horse post which was reverted and re-reverted. BilCat (talk) 19:34, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
He's now at 3RR again, and a warning has been issued. BilCat (talk) 20:09, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
BilCat - I've started a discussion at ANI. Enough is enough, and we need to decide what the appropriate action here is... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:28, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Thank you very much. I probably won't comment there, and just occasionally drop by to see what's happening. Feel free to ping me if there's anything specific that I need to address or respond to. BilCat (talk) 20:33, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
BilCat - Any diffs and information you can add to the ANI discussion would be helpful. However, this is not something you have to do if you don't feel comfortable doing so, or if you don't want to. It would help a lot, though, since you have some involvement with this incident and knowledge of what's going on... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:35, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

I'm not comfortable doing that at the moment. Laying out diffs has always been difficult for me, and there are.other users involved who will probably do it better than I would. As I said, I'd rather observe at this point. I think once the user responds to the ANI, the problems will become self-evident there. BilCat (talk) 20:44, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

BilCat - No problem. Like I said, I understand and that's completely up to you. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:54, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Apologies on Wicker Man page

Oshwah,

My greatest and sincerest apologies on my disruption of the wicker man page here. I truly did not mean to remove or displace whatever information I removed. I'm still a newbie when it comes to this editing, and was thrust into the role for a class assignment. My only objective was to add a reference and report about it, but it seems I've gone and messed up quite well.

Again, I apologize greatly for the mishap. Hopefully the changes I made can be reverted.

AnthonynolfiAnthonynolfi (talk) 10:24, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Anthonynolfi! Welcome to Wikipedia! :-) No problem! I fixed the edits for you, and I left a message on your user talk page about it here. Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial. It will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Most users who take this advice and complete the tutorial tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them. If you have any questions or need help with anything, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'll be more than happy to help you with anything that you need! Keep up the great work! You're new and you're learning; it's okay to make mistakes! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:28, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Your Opinion

Hey there, thankyou for your advuce regarding rollback rights. I would love to ask your opinion regarding me applying for autopatrolled rights. I have so far created 37 articles. I think the min condition is 25. I give importance to citing sources, so only create with available sources. Please tell your opinion. Regards Kichu🐘 Discuss 12:04, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Kashmorwiki! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your request for input. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about applying for the autopatrolled user right at all. It doesn't do anything for you, nor does it change anything on your end. Someone could give you the autopatrolled user right without telling you, and you wouldn't notice a thing - nothing would change. All the user right does is automatically mark new pages that you create as "patrolled" by the MediaWiki software so that other users don't have to manually review them - that's it. Before I was an administrator on Wikipedia, someone gave me autopatrolled without me asking or applying for it. It was because they noticed that my page creations were causing other users a high amount of unnecessary work having to go through and manually review them, so they just gave it to me. I don't think that I was even formally told on my user talk page that I was granted the user right (there isn't much of a point in doing so anyways). If you continue creating pages and articles that don't end up being deleted or seen as problematic, you'll eventually just be given the user right by someone. It's not something I would recommend that you ask for. I would instead just focus on the user rights that you have, and continue to learn, gain experience, and grow on Wikipedia and find an area that you enjoy contributing to (whether it be writing articles, reverting vandalism, contributing to wiki projects, etc). The autopatrolled right isn't going to do anything for you. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like my input on anything else. I'll be more than happy to answer them and help you with anything that you need. :-) Cheers! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:20, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
your helping mentality.:) I was about to ask for this right after the moment I created 25 articles. But later I took a decision that I still need to improve as a wikipedian. I still had some doubts regarding some articles. So I started learning gradually and now I am confident that I know well about the notability guidelines and all. So far, only one article I created have been deleted so far. Thats my first one. My main mission here is to improve the article related to Indian football. And my main concern here is that most of the former Indian International footballers does not have independent article.s So my main mission is to create them the articles with the available limited resources. The next thing I focus is to fight vandalism in which I still have some doubts. I hope that I will learn that gradullay within a month. Once again thankyou for your advice. Regards Kichu🐘 Discuss 12:59, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Kashmorwiki - We're glad to have you here, and I hope that you stay with us and become a long-term contributor to the project. :-) Not to worry! You will surely learn and grow as a Wikipedian as you create more articles and edit more content - just keep doing what you're doing, and you'll be just fine. :-) The first article that I created on Wikipedia was deleted, too. ;-) In the end, you should contribute to what you enjoy doing here. If you enjoy editing articles in the topic of Indian football and sports and patrolling recent changes for vandalism, perfect! I would never encourage someone to contribute and spend their precious time and energy volunteering in areas on Wikipedia that they don't enjoy. You'll get worn out, and you'll find yourself disliking what you're doing on Wikipedia in general. Be well, and let me know if I can answer any questions or provide you with any input or assistance with anything. I'll be more than happy to help! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:08, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Sock of Karakeçi24?

I have noticed another "new user" using the same information as Karakeçi24 on Talk:History of the Russo-Turkish wars, actually just expanding on what Karakeçi24 had already posted. Should I file another SPI? --Kansas Bear (talk) 12:54, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Kansas Bear! If there's suspicion of sock puppetry, yes - absolutely create an SPI. This way, we can document and track everything and have it for record-keeping purposes. I agree that the new user jumping straight to this article's talk page is quite suspicious... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:00, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Should I simply add CuciHan234's name to this current SPI? --Kansas Bear (talk) 13:46, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
I guess it has already been added. Sorry to have bothered you Oshwah. Stay warm where ever you are, it is 0F here in Kansas(not counting windchill). --Kansas Bear (talk) 13:55, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Kansas Bear! No worries! I'm glad that the report was created either way. :-) It's currently 14F here, and we just got a lot of snow overnight. I'll be having a fun drive when I go to the office today... lol ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:12, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Hey Oshwah, I am copying information from my talk page over to here. It was posted by Wario-Man and his belief that these socks are somehow related. I personally have not looked at the information(SPIs) so I can not say if there is evidence that proves this or not. Perhaps you can figure it all out, if you wish to go down that rabbit hole.
I really believe this sockmaster has learned how to evade block by using different devices and ISPs. Or as I said in my above comment, it looks like meatpuppetry and teamwork. How the behavior and edits of all of these users are same (more or less) if they are not related to each other? Their sockfarms and non-stop disruptions have become a long-term abuse case. Wario-Man talk 06:53, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Wario-Man! Thanks for responding and for letting me know. Have we added this thought and the evidence behind it to an SPI case? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:53, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello Oshwah ; Sorry to distrub you.I have applied for Rollback Rights. But the page has some backlog. Could you review my request and tell me whether I need make any improvements in my editting ? BestwishesPoppified talk 13:28, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Poppified! No apologies are needed. It's no problem at all! :-) I took a quick glance through your recent contributions, and I think you're on the right track and you appear to be doing the right things, but you're not there yet. I see that you've only been active in recent changes patrolling and reverting vandalism for just over a week (your reversions using RedWarn start on February 2 of this year). Reviewing administrators want to see both edits and time when it comes to showing sufficient knowledge of policy and demonstrable experience for the tools, and I'm afraid that this lack of time might hold you back from having them granted (I typically like to see a few weeks' worth of experience and time at a minimum). I also see that you've only reported a total of two editors to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. I typically want to see a consistent record and pattern of good reports being made to AIV before I grant rollback to someone, and you don't have any experience with doing so yet.
Not to worry, though! If you continue spending sufficient time with patrolling and reverting vandalism and reporting repeat offenders to AIV, I think you'll be a good candidate if you apply for rollback in a few weeks. I'm going to hold off on reviewing your request, as there are other users currently in line. Jumping straight to your request would be showing favoritism and would be unfair to the other users who are waiting. If you have any questions or need anything else, please let me know and I'll be happy to help! I hope you have a great day and I wish you happy editing! Pashtoman

Hi Oshwah. I don't know the evidence, of course, but you recently blocked PashtoPromoter as an abusive sock; he did note here that they are both him, but that he had stopped using the former account before he started using the current. A quick look at their contributions shows no timing overlap, so he seemed to be telling the truth there. I'd agree that he was less than ideal as a contributor, but is it fair to block as a sock? I'm not really questioning you, merely trying to learn, i guess, and showing some evidence you may not have seen; happy days, LindsayHello 16:28, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi LindsayH! Thank you for leaving me a message here regarding the two accounts. I appreciate you for presenting the diff of the account disclosing their alternative. I was not aware of this, and I see that there is a lack of overlap with the accounts. I've gone ahead and unblocked them. What should I read before diving in as new user?

Thanks for reviewing my user page creation! I created my account to fix a dead link in a citation, but now that I have an account I don't have an excuse to not actually contribute more widely. It's obviously not your obligation (so feel free to ignore), but I'm looking for a primer about wikipedians(?) established culture, norms, etiquette, etc. Besides the new-user onboarding articles that we see at account creation, do you have protips on how I can make sure I'm not accidentally the start of wikipedia's Eternal September?

Hi Bassett green! You could give the new user tutorial a go! There's also the help page on getting started on Wikipedia! firefox

  • Hi! I am running Windows 10 Home (64 Bit) on a Virtual Machine, but even when firefox is booted in safe mode, using the D2L site, kills the CPU because it will jump to 100% usage. The XML tags, are depreacted for all other browser. How can I fix the firefox? --つがる Talk to つがる:) 🍁 01:23, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
つがる - Does turning off safe mode for Firefox improve the CPU usage? What hardware are you running on? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:41, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
It would kill my CPU even more if the safe mode was off. I am Running Windows 10 in virtualbox, physical OS, is Linux Mint 20. When I run D2L on Linux Mint's Firefox no problems whatsoever, but Microsoft Word is not supported there, hence I need to run it inside of Virtualbox. Also, if Firefox isn't setting off the CPU, it would be one of the Windows Update Software that are doing so, and there's no way to turn it off anymore. Yes, the Laptop is not a human, but I have some mechanical love for the laptop, and I don't think the fan running in high heat, on a 100% used CPU is very good for the laptop in the long run. --つがる Talk to つがる:) 🍁 01:50, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

It's always usually the D2L that uses all the CPU, or when it's closed, and no tabs are open, it randomly uses all my CPU for whatever reason. It doesn't seem right for it to do this. --つがる Talk to つがる:) 🍁 02:14, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

My apologies

Please accept my sincere apologies.

I admit, I've gone a little too far. Simply because Aung San Suu Kyi is elected member of Burma and her role hasn't change from State Counsellor of Myanmar to suddenly become Former State Counsellor of Myanmar.

It is incorrect and publishing in WIKI, showing lack of understand of the fact and ignore the voice of people from Burma.

We don't believe the recent military coup is legal and hence changing her role in WIKI is unacceptable.

Hope you understand where I am coming from.

Again, I apologise for what I have done to correct what I believe the right thing to do.

Zhong ST - Can we also not make accusations toward other editors without proof? You accused Tartan357 of being an "agent of the Burmese military", which is baseless, uncivil, and inappropriate. Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:46, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

I'd be pleased to know this from you :)

Hi. I'm starting this saying that I don't wanna disturb you or make you lose any time of your editing activity, but what happened to me felt kinda funny and out of order to me, and I would like to have support from your voice to get some justice if I'm right, or just an explanation of what's wrong with it if I'm wrong.

I'm user Sayatek Down. I was blocked and my edits were removed for NO REASON. There's this ongoing stuff that is going on that I really don't understand. But it's fine, I can get checked for something I'm not, you can assume that I'm something I'm not. But the problem is that I was blocked from editing, and all my edits were reverted even before a verdict (or whatever we'd like to call it), like yours, have seen the light. I'm not that dude, I didn't do not even 1 disruptive edit. My edits were deleted leaving pages with half of the sourced information that there were before. I created pages of relevant major songs, all of em well sourced and blase blase, that were redirected just because of the assumptions of this Bink dude. I mean what kind of mess is that? Is it something that rules on this encyclopedia admit? I don't know that deep these administrators rules, but I doubt. I didn't do anything wrong, I did the opposite, I heavily improved some pages. Check my edits. Please. I'm begging you. I'm not that dude that they're talking about. There's no proof, no ip that I share with the guy. On here one dude said that I was a vandal from Italy, another said I was a vandal from Texas, which it shows by itself how much these people don't have a clear idea of what they're talking about. I'm not both of em. I share no IPs with dudes. I edited 1 page, just 1 PAGE in common with the 'giuboto' dude they're mistaking me with. And the fact that I was blocked and my edits were reverted just because of the assumptions with no proof WHATSOEVER of the Bink dude are kinda funny to me. Check the reason why I was blocked, that's it. And again. Please. Check the edits that I keep on trying to get back with this IP, I even wrote the reasons why reverting them was vandalism. You'll se with your eyes what I was doing in here, and what they removed. I don't want to make you lose any time, but I simply find it heavily unfair.

Please, give me your hand with this cause, I'm doing this because I can help the project in my little possibilities, and I can't take this unreasonable block as the end of it, I just can't. And if I really just have to, at least clear my mind about what I'm missing out of this . Sockpuppet investigation - Jees Mohan

Hi Oshwah,

Ref Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/JEES_Mohan/Archive that you dealt with today.

I believe Special:Contributions/Hsyetsg is another sock of Jees Mohan/MaNuMz7 - inserting his name into the same articles about Indian towns.

Do I need to request another investigation or can he be added to the previous one? I've never done this before.

Hi

  • I am not good at guessing the right person, but few months before I nominated few stub like articles not touched for years and lacking notability for delition. The community made consensus on delition and one person opened the delition review for all those articles, but unfortunately he couldn't fulfill the condition to retain them. I have a smell that, that editor may have created new account to strike back at me.Can you please check Heybata connection with this editor[11] .It is not possible for a 5 hr old account to know the policies like WP:NOTESSAY, and this solidifies my belief. Heba Aisha (talk) 22:13, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Heba Aisha! Thanks for leaving me a message here. Are you saying that you believe that Heybata is a sock puppet of Jethwarp? I want to make sure that I have the right users that you believe are socking. Why do you think that the user created a new account to get back at you? What exactly is the user doing? How do you know that the account is a sock puppet of the other? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:52, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi, this is because, I usually work in caste related articles and also politics of northern india. In a drive to clean the wiki out of junk I nominated few articles for delition which were two to four line article in content and lacked what we call Wp:Notability, even one of them was tagged for a long time regarding that. Unfortunately, most of those articles were related to a particular caste group but not all, example Bari caste(which was also nominated by me but not related to that caste group). I had no bad intentions, I just wanted everything to be clear like articles of other countries which are decent in look. In fact most of the respondent in voting supported my stand over delition. I think this hurted Jethwarp who edits particularly the article related to that particular caste group. I am not saying he is wrong anyhow, the article which he wanted to protect right now Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha (which was also nominated by me) is in good state now and I nominated it when it was like an advertisement.Here[12] But after that, I haven't commented for delition as it is improved as of now. But, I think Jethwarp has taken it in a wrong sense. Heba Aisha (talk) 00:20, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Heba Aisha. Thanks for letting me know. I don't have enough proof to investigate or run a check on these accounts, but if you wish, you can file a sockpuppet investigation report here. I have my doubts that the two users are related based on the evidence I have, but you're welcome to file a report if you feel differently. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:33, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for being supportive, I would like to know the user you are pointing towards. I was in dispute with many people over time, all those were related to page of a particular caste group. My talk page is full of accusations and there will be more in future though I had edited that article months before and shifted my interests elsewhere due to increasing conflicts. But, since my comments are there on talk page of that caste article Rajput, everyone who hails from\related to that caste reaches upto me with intimidation and sometimes legal threats. As of now I am going to file WP:SPI, on ur advice, but it will be helpful if you can tell.Heba Aisha (talk) 01:20, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Heba Aisha - Working in caste-related articles sounds like a challenging area to work in. We appreciate your work, and I hope that you stay and become a long-term editor on Wikipedia. :-) I haven't investigated or looked into anything. This is why I was asking you about the accounts, what evidence and diff links you have showing a connection between the accounts, and why you believe that the Heybata account is a sock puppet of Jethwarp (as you indicated in your initial message to me). ;-) I don't have any actual evidence in order to do anything at this time. Checkuser isn't a tool that I can use to "fish" with; I can't just take one account and start running it through the tool just to see if it's a sock account due to general evidence and thoughts - I need actual evidence such as similar behavior, [[|H:diff|diffs]], and editing timeline. It sounds like you've had interactions with many people, and that your guess at to who might be a sock of whom might not be accurate. I just don't have anything to go off of here. If you wish to create an SPI and submit evidence showing a connection between two or more accounts, I encourage you to do so. Someone will be able to review the report and take any action if it's warranted. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:59, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Checkuser request for ongoing report

Greetings Oshwah, hope you're well. (talk page stalker) On that note, are they blocked or am I missing something? Pahunkat (talk) 11:23, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Pahunkat - The Dreaonfleak account is blocked, yes. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:51, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, sorry - I meant in the SPI. Pahunkat (talk) 20:55, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Wow, surprised that made it to archiving without anyone noticing. Courtesy ping RoySmith. Well, I went ahead and blocked the accounts. Sro23 (talk) 23:36, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Sro23, Thanks for the ping. Yeah, it looks like at the point I archived it, they were tagged, but not blocked. Note to self: be more f'ing careful about stuff like that. -- RoySmith (talk) 23:48, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

RoySmith No worries. In your preferences, under gadgets, you can tick a box that says "Strike out usernames that have been blocked". This has been enormously helpful to me as a clerk. Sro23 (talk) 00:02, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
RoySmith - The gadget that Sro23 is talking about is one that I use. I definitely like it. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:45, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, The problem is not my not having the gadget. PEBKAC. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RoySmith (talkcontribs) 01:20, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
RoySmith - It happens... We all make mistakes. I make mistakes all the time. Ask Sro23 - I'm sure he'll be more than happy to tell you about some of them. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:28, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you mean. We all f up from time to time. I've had some pretty spectacular screwups over the years, both on and off SPI. I'm glad I don't have to worry about anyone holding it against me. Sometimes I get OCD when it comes to little details, or more abrasive than I intend. I hope you don't take it the wrong way, it has nothing to do with you personally. Sro23 (talk) 01:38, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Sro23 - I was just being silly. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:34, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

Checkuser

Hi Chinar(Message) 19:00, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Chinar Tree! How are you? Is there anything I can help you with? :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:05, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Oshwah, please check the user Hums4r as all articles as well as drafts created by them are related to same person. I want you to check whether he/she was paid by that person/company and if that's true then it is a severe violation of Wikipedia's editor policy. Thanks, Chinar(Message) 19:06, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
And i checked their log also and found that their account was blocked once for sockpuppetry. Chinar(Message) 19:08, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Chinar Tree - Have you created an SPI report at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations? If you haven't, I highly recommend that you do so. You can request a checkuser by following the directions and filling out the form. I have a few other SPI reports that I need to take a look at, but I'll be able to take a look at yours once you file one. :-) Also, you should fix your signature when you get a moment. Your username is Chinar Tree, but your signature is pointing users to User:Chinar, which is not your userpage. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:15, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Chinar Tree and Oshwah, Since i was tagged here,
  1. This is the reason why i was blocked earlier Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Hums4r/Archive , I was blocked due to some mistakes which i made when i didn't know about wikipedia policies, i was banned for 1 week as a warning, from that day i have made no wikipedia policy violation.
  2. I have disclosed my COI with the subject of the article, which was a mistake as well but following the policies of wikipedia i did it without any hinderance. Moreover i decided to not write article's directly because i made mistakes earlier and that's the only reason why you see just few of them,
  3. The reason why the article's are related to the first subject is because Zeyan Shafiq is a notable person in kashmir and his work meets the WP:GNG, so since i had researched on him, i researched on his work as well and did a article on his Organisation's because i was suggested by editors to do that, since esports and kashmir related articles are very less in wikipedia.
  4. Since you seem to be a old wikipedian, i wanted to ask how did you directly put the deletion tag on the article with the tag "No Credibility"? You should have checked the references first and you should have posted it to the talk page first to discuss it thoroughly. I am asking this because there have been multiple disruptive editing's to the page and i firmly believe that you're involved in the same. Kindly refrain from ruining the page's and behave like a good wikipedian, We are here to contribute.
  5. At last, if incase you'd like to know about my work, kindly ping me on my talk page before you to confirm, i am working on few more esport article's as for now and few kashmiri notable persons as well, but it takes time to research thoroughly before putting it up on wikipedia.
Also change that Signature tag, because it's misleading. Hums4r (Let's Talk) 20:53, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Feedback and help needed

Hello Oshwah, I have recently been labeled by 1 IP who accused me of appalling things here. That IP seems to be the part of the range of IPs who have been terrorizing several editors and admins for over a year [14] I wanted to <s*> some of his comments (insults). Would that be per rules and guidelines? Could you help put in this situation and what should editors do in situations like this? Also, please note that some of the sourced information from the Croatia page have been removed in recent edits, including the sourced information about the terrible Genocide of Serbs in the Independent State of Croatia which took place in modern-day Croatia. Thank you kindly, Sadkσ (talk is cheap) 20:41, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Sadko! It's good to talk to you again! I hope you're doing well. :-) Yes, I can definitely see that the IP user was calling you a "Serbian propagandist" and other things here, here, and here. I'll talk to the user and warn them about civility. That behavior is not acceptable, and I'm sorry that you're being called these things by this user... As far as the user being part of the LTA range: The IP is address looks to be within the range, but I'm not 100% sure if it's the same user or not. I'll have to dig into that deeper. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:24, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi there, I'm fine. :) I had COVID and some later symptoms but it's all good now. How are you? All good?
The same person has called me "chauvinistic" and attacked at least 2 admins and 4 other editors. Is there something we can, as a community, do about it? Is IP range ban possible? Thanks. Sadkσ (talk is cheap) 22:37, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Sadko! I'm sorry to hear that you caught COVID, but I'm happy to hear that you're better now. Things for me are busy, but they're good; I have no complaints. I haven't caught COVID (yet?), and I'm keeping myself locked down for the most part so that I don't. Sure, the community can always decide by consensus to have an IP range blocked if they feel the need is warranted. However, the problem is that the CIDR for the IP is coming back as a /17 network, which is pretty large. Blocking the range might mean that collateral damage is caused and that innocent users that are within that range are also blocked. That's one of the many challenges we face as admins when we need to block an IP or a range, unfortunately... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:46, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Sir Oshwah I have a suggestion that you block the entire Croatian network so that the Serbian propagandist Sadko can write freely against the Croatia and other neighboring countries so that no one bothers him. Goodbye.93.138.64.112 (talk) 23:09, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
You've been warned about making personal attacks like this against other editors, and it's clear that you don't intend on stopping. Blocked for 36 hours for repeated civility violations. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:20, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Ponyo! It's nice to talk to you again! I blocked that account because I interpreted it as sexual. I didn't know that it was a song. Taking that into account, I probably should not have blocked it. Sigh... I just can't win ever... :-) Thanks for letting me know about this. I'm going to unblock the account. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:43, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Oh no, I wasn't contesting the block in any way, just got a giggle out of the username because it evokes the image of the album cover. I also had the song stuck in my head for a good hour or two. There are worst things that could happen!-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 20:37, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Ponyo - Ah, no worries! I hate it when that happens too! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:47, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

IP

Hi, Oshwah. Any evidence to suggest this is someone editing while logged out? [15] I've recently also been on the receiving end of similar harassment from IPs in the same range. [16] [17] Amanuensis Balkanicus (talk) 00:32, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Amanuensis Balkanicus! There's a long-term abuse page on this IP range; it certainly could be this user that's causing this disruption. The problem is that the range is pretty wide (93.138.0.0/17), and the country it's coming from makes it hard to distinguish the user from innocent users in a technical stance. Even their user agent is very common, so it's hard to even go off of that. I've revoked talk page access from this user as they're using their user talk page to continue to make personal attacks at others, but if more abusive edits come from this range, it may be worth blocking a portion of it in order to put a stop to it. We'll just have to keep an eye on things and hope that everything works out... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:02, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
I wish I had good new and that he/she calmed down, but the situation is not getting any better, please see [18] Thanks. Sadkσ (talk is cheap) 00:14, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Sadko - I've applied semi-protection to the article for two days. I'm hoping that will calm things down. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:46, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks man. Sadkσ (talk is cheap) 00:54, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Sadko - You bet. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:29, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi all, came here after seeing the IPs fight on the Patriarch page and Oshwah’s thankful interjection. I notice 2IPs on the page, one from Croatia and one from Serbia that have been reoccurring. One referred to Croatian news papers as “Nazi Tabloids” the Croatian IP attacking and insulting Sadko and other editors. I think a partial wide IP ban would be best but for a month or two. That way the trolls give up, tired and forget. Then the IP range can be restored. What do you all think? OyMosby (talk) 02:17, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi OyMosby! Thanks for joining the discussion! I think the best thing to do right now is keep an eye on this IP range for now, and let me know if any behaviors continue. If they do, I'll be happy to investigate, step in, and take whatever measure are necessary to stop the disruption. Will you help me keep an eye on things? :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:47, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks and already have been keep notes of these fools. Don’t forget this IP range as well. Also as a fellow geek I enjoyed your bio. Not a programmer myself, more a hardware guy in interest. :) Anyway will keep you updated here of new encounters. Worse comes to worst, we could try the temporary short spectrum ban. Cheers OyMosby (talk) 05:50, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
OyMosby - Sure, we can keep an eye on this range as well. It's a smaller range, so I'm hoping that should trouble come from it, blocking it without much collateral damage will be possible. Thanks for the compliments on my user page! I've grown up around computers, hardware, and technology, and I find it very fun! :-) Keep in touch, and let me know if you need anything. :-D Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:56, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For your work in reducing the SPI backlog. Celestina007 (talk) 01:38, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Celestina007! Thank you for taking the time to leave me this barnstar, and for taking the time to appreciate the work that I've been doing in SPI. It means a lot to me, and I appreciate it very much. I want to try and keep the CU requests and CU endorsements as small as possible. Else, they're just waiting on one of us to get done, which can take awhile - which especially happens when there's a huge queue of requests awaiting a checkuser. My thought is to handle then as soon as I can, and keep that queue as low as possible. Then, the process can move on from there. There are a lot of submitters, a good team of SPI clerks, but only a number of checkusers. What good would I be if I didn't do my part and help out where I could do so? :-) Thanks again for the barnstar, and I hope you have a great day and I wish you happy editing. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:51, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi BoundlessElise - Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad that you decided to join us! We need editors like you, and I'm happy that you're here. I hope that you take off your jacket, stay awhile, and that you become a long-term experienced editor here. :-) You're quite welcome! One of the many things that I do on Wikipedia is welcome and assist new users as they're learning how things work, so if you run into any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'll be more than happy to answer any questions and assist you with anything that you need. If you haven't read through Wikipedia's getting started page, that is the perfect place for you to begin. I'd also recommend going through Wikipedia's new user tutorial and completing everything. It will provide you with helpful walkthroughs and interactive guides aimed toward helping you to learn how things work, how to edit and communicate, and where Wikipedia's important policies and guidelines are located. Follow-up from ANI

Hi, you recently gave Flyedit32 a 24 hour block for edit warring at Elon Musk. Immediately after the block ended, they made one of the very edits that had got them in hot water in the first place. After an admin advised them to stop, Flyedit32 backed down and we actually had a constructive discussion. I had high hopes, but unfortunately they are continuing the disruptive behavior and are ignoring the BOLD, revert, discuss cycle.

The issue revolved around a word in the lede

I then asked them to remove that edit. They responded "I will not self-revert merely for your individual wishes". I am surprised that they would do this so recently after being blocked. Could you please tell them to undo that edit and adhere to BRD? Thanks. ~ HAL333 23:12, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi HAL333 - If the edit is that significant, why not start a discussion about it? I know that the user indicated that they may or may not participate, but it's at least doing the right thing on your part by doing so. If they don't discuss it, put the edit back - so long as it doesn't turn into edit warring. If they're not willing to discuss the issue, then it's not that important to them that the change be kept. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:33, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Civility Barnstar
Honestly speaking, I’m not sure I’ve come across any editor as civil as you are, in-fact, I don’t even think I’ve seen you ever get angry. Keep it up mate. Celestina007 (talk) 23:33, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Celestina007! Thanks for taking the time to leave me this barnstar! I appreciate it a lot! Nah, I don't get angry over things here and I don't resort to being uncivil or angry at other people on Wikipedia... In the end, I think of it like this: This is the internet, and things are going to happen that you don't like. That's the way she goes, and it's not worth it to me to get angry and become uncivil at anyone - even trolls. If they're not trolls, being uncivil and yelling or popping off at someone isn't going to help the discussion. If they are trolls, you're just giving them exactly what they want. It's like the "little brother poking you" theory: If you react and say, "hey, stop that! I'm angry! Why do you do these things?!!", you're motivating them to do it more because they get a reaction out of you. By absolutely not giving them what they want, they'll eventually get bored of what they're doing, and they'll move on. In the end, there's just no good thing that comes of being an asshat - especially if you're an administrator. We've had too many administrators let the "power" get to them, and nobody likes them or respects them because they have that mentality. Being seen as experienced and someone who is truly respected by the community comes with being civil and helpful, even in very tough and heated situations. And really, if you think about it, why let something like a website get you angry? ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:44, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Steve M! My initial thought is that it wouldn't be a good idea, simply because of the nature of the file. It's the global configuration for Huggle on all of en-wiki that each user's Huggle client looks to when the program is launched. However, I'm completely open to a discussion with the community and I'll be happy to change the protection level if community consensus shows that it should be changed. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:28, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah. There is an editors that keeps vandalizing pages and insulting people in their diffs. Could you look into it? Cheers OyMosby (talk) 00:36, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi OyMosby! I apologize for the delay responding to your message here. It looks like the user has been found to be a sockpuppet account by a checkuser and has been indefinitely blocked, so I believe that the issue has been resolved. However, if you see any more disruptive edits like this, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to take a look. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:35, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
No worries! Thanks for your help and support. OyMosby (talk) 14:54, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
OyMosby - You bet; always happy to help. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:14, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

User talk:122.52.234.49

Hello Oshwah, you may consider blocking 120.72.27.48 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) as that IP is actually a block evasion of User:122.52.234.49 who was blocked by admin Widr for 2 years for making disruptive edits. Please see this edit by User:122.52.234.49 and this most recent edit by 120.72.27.48 on the TP of the former. Also please put a page protection so that there would be no further disruptions in the said talkpage. Thanks! VictorTorres2002 (talk) 06:21, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi VictorTorres2002! I've blocked the IP user for block evasion, but I'm going to hold off on protecting the user talk page. If the user returns, an easy way to tell would be if the user talk page gets edited again. If we protect the page, it would make it harder on us to identify any other IP addresses that are being used to evade the block. It would be best leave it be for now, and have it open as a honeypot - where we purposefully leave it unprotected so that we can easily identify other sock users when they go to disrupt that page. ;-) Please let me know if you see any more issues, and I'll be happy to take a look. Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a great day and happy editing. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:40, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Merging SPI's

Hi, I don't know the procedure for this, but the recent SPI for Alvrix04 which you closed is obviously linked to this one and should be merged with it. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 02:16, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi MaxBrowne2! Thanks for responding! I've confirmed that they are related and I've merged the reports between the two users at SPI. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:46, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
Looks like a bit of an awkward procedure, but when I compare Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Alvrix3104/Archive and Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Alvrix3108/Archive it doesn't show that they are connected. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 07:20, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
MaxBrowne2 - Thanks for letting me know. I took a look at the SPI clerking procedures, and it doesn't appear that moving or merging the archives is part of the process. This is likely why the script I used didn't merge the archives, just the SPI reports pages. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to answer them and help. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:28, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
Basically I'm concerned that the admins considering his block appeal won't realise that he has form. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 20:31, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
MaxBrowne2 - I don't think there's going to be a block appeal for these accounts. One of them is checkuser blocked, so administrators cannot unblock the account without a checkuser's permission. I don't think you have anything to worry about. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:42, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Quarm

Hi, regarding my edit, I have added more info. How can I prove it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by NQ1984 (talkcontribs) 12:03, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi NQ1984! Welcome to Wikipedia! Your edit here to Joan H. Quarm wasn't cited or referenced to a reliable source. Also, your edit summary describing you as a family relative shows that your edit is based off of original research, which isn't allowed on Wikipedia. To summarize, original research is where you "cite yourself" as the reference, saying that your personal experience, relationships, or even published articles or research is what is being used to support your edits. We cannot use or prove original research, so it cannot be used to reference articles.
Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. It will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Most users who take this advice and complete the tutorial tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Again, welcome! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:09, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

February 2021

Information icon Hello, I'm EGL1234. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to La Martiniere Calcutta seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Please in the future don't call a school "elite". This is quite opinionated. EGL1234 14:00, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

EGL1234 - I think you might be going a bit too fast on RedWarn - slow down! :-) Make sure you're paying attention to what you're about to revert and warn someone over. Your revert to La Martiniere Calcutta restored the word "elite" to the article; my edit removed it. I went ahead and fixed the article, but you definitely don't want to accidentally do this to a new or novice user. Mistakes like this can confuse them, make them upset, or even drive them away from Wikipedia, and we really don't want to do that. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:09, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
@Oswah: Ok! Sorry about that :( I'll pay more attention in the future. I'm a bit too over-enthusiastic... EGL1234 14:19, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
EGL1234 - No problem! :-) Mistakes happen; I just wanted to point it out to you so that you were aware. I'm definitely not perfect (heck, I'm very far from perfect); I made plenty of mistakes when I first started patrolling recent changes, and I still make mistakes to this day. I'm sure there are a lot of users here who will attest to that. ;-) Enthusiasm, eagerness, and wanting to get involved with Wikipedia is a good thing. Don't let my message to you ruin that at all! You remind me of myself when I was newer on Wikipedia; I had the same feelings. You just don't want your eagerness to help and contribute get in the way of quality and making sure that you do things right. I had that problem; don't let yourself get sucked into thinking that quantity is better - if it takes 1-2 extra seconds to double check, definitely take those 1-2 seconds and do so. :-) And please be enthusiastic, please be eager to help, and definitely keep up what you're doing! That kind of mentality isn't something that we cherish enough with users on Wikipedia. Reverting vandalism is a very tough and thankless job, and I appreciate you for putting in the time and energy toward helping with that. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:26, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

FYI

It turns out the IP at Grant Hodnett attempting to whitewash the page is likely the person in question - see the history. I'm not sure if you recall it, but you actually ran a check on the users (not the IPs) here. Pahunkat (talk) 14:22, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Pahunkat! I've blocked the IP range in question for edit warring. I'll take a look into things further on the article's history, but if you see any more edits like this, let me know and I'll be happy to put a kibosh to it. Thanks for the message and for letting me know about this. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:32, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
Hello Oshwah, they've now resorted to using their account(s). Can anything be done about that? Pahunkat (talk) 18:12, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
Pahunkat - I've blocked the account for 24 hours for edit warring, just like the IP range. I've also semi-protected the article for two days. Please let me know if any more issues continue, and I'll be happy to take another look. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:23, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, the user has made a legal threat on their talk page now. FYI tney have another account which may or may not be autoblocked which is autoconfirmed. Could you take any necessary action? Thanks, Pahunkat (talk) 21:57, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
Pahunkat - FITCricket is now blocked indefinitely for violating Wikipedia's policy on making legal threats. Thanks for responding and for letting me know about it. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:50, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Userbox problem

how do you make the userboxes look nice. when I copy and paste them on to mine, it does not make a box. the only thing that comes up is

. just ugly text. how do you fix that? thank you, KommanderChicken (talk) 14:59, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

oops. It comes up on this one, but when I copy and paste it on to my user page and hit publish the ugly text is still there KommanderChicken (talk) 15:00, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) KommanderC, you needed to remove the <nowiki> tags and the wikilinks inside them. See your userpage (you can ignore the clear tags that I placed there just to make sure I didn't leave it a mess. Thanks, Pahunkat (talk) 15:09, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
ok thank you for making it look nice but now the templates separate like 12 miles of space and messes up the formatting KommanderChicken (talk) 15:17, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
KommanderC, you'll probably need to clear that up - remove the 'clear' tags and format away. Pahunkat (talk) 15:19, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
(edit conflict × 3) Hi KommanderChicken! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions and your request for help! I'll be more than happy to walk you through everything. What you likely did was copy the code straight off of the VisualEditor and onto your user page, which included a bunch of unnecessary code that messed things up. You want to add and format userboxes onto your user page as templates, such as {{User:Queerly Bohemian/Userboxes/RussianRevolution}} - where the userbox is between two brackets ({{ and }}). Take a look at the userbox galleries for a good list of userboxes that you can add to your user page. When you find one that you like, it'll show you exactly what to copy onto your user page. It looks like Pahunkat has edited your user page to fix what you didn't need to add, and he's responding to you above. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it. ;-)
On another note, if you haven't gone through Wikipedia's getting started page or completed Wikipedia's new user tutorial, I highly recommend that you visit those pages and go through them. They will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Please let me know if you get stuck anywhere, if you run into any questions, or if you need help with anything else. I'll be more than happy to give you a hand. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:21, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
I use the visual editor because edit source is confusing for me. The templates are extremely stubborn, I can not move them, and it looks terrible. Sorry if I am being extremely incompetent, as I have no idea what I am doing, and I do not understand what you are asking me to do since the talk page is compressed into one giant, confusing paragraph. KommanderChicken (talk) 15:31, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
KommanderC - No apologies are needed - we were all new at one point. Back when I started on Wikipedia (14 years ago), we didn't have any kind of visual editor. The only choice you had was to learn and understand the source code. :-) Are you still having trouble? Do you still need help? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:20, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
Haha, I was just looking at a previous revision of your talk page... Pahunkat (talk) 20:47, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
Pahunkat - LOL! Ohhhhh boy..... Wow, that was 14 years ago and back when I was in High School. :-) I wasn't exactly a user who was focused on building an encyclopedia at the time... ;-) Looking back, I never thought that I'd be who I am today on Wikipedia. But hey, it was how things worked on Wikipedia that made me jump the fence and start contributing like a real member of the community. I'm sure glad I made that decision and that I didn't wind up becoming a blocked vandal like I should have been. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:57, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

About closing a discussion

Hello.. Oshwah... Hope you are doing safe. I would like to bring something to your attention. The following discussion Talk:Kerala Blasters FC#Spiliting proposal to split the article has been agreed by all the users involved and 7 days have elapsed. So I thought of closing it myself. But since I started it, I am afraid it might be a problem for me. Would you have a look at it and close it.BestwishesPoppified talk 16:56, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Poppified! Since you were the one who started the discussion, it's best that you're not the one to close it. Even if you participate or "vote" in a discussion, it's generally frowned upon to also be the person to close it. Just have someone who's uninvolved do it. :-) Sure, I'll be happy to close the discussion.  Done. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:19, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Just saying hello!

Hello. My name is Windows 7. I am a professional editor and admin here. If you ever used me before, here's a link: microsoft.com.\

I think I made a mistake

Since you closed the discussion regarding splitting of Kerala Blasters, I created the new proposed article. History of Kerala Blasters FC. But I doubt I made some mistake while providing attribution. Please have a look. Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kashmorwiki (talkcontribs) 19:16, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Kashmorwiki! It looks like you're off to a good start. I would move over the content, like you did, and then put a summary of the history section on the main article with a link pointing to the History of Kerala Blasters FC article. What mistake do you feel that you made? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:50, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Ky doubt is that did I provide the correct edit summary while creating the article. I also crrated the talk page. So it must contain the atribution that this page was created by copying the contents from the parent page. Right? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kashmorwiki (talkcontribs) 04:48, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Kashmorwiki - As long as you added a useful edit summary, you should be fine. I've removed the history content from the main article, since it is now on the new history article that you created. What needs to be added is a summary of the history where that content is removed. That should accomplish what we're looking for. I think you're off to a good start. The splitting of the article is what was needed, and so far this has been done - we just need to write a summary where that content was. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:07, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for always assisting young editors like me. It was the first time that I did splitting. Thats why I had the doubt. Now everything is fine as of now. Regards Kichu🐘 Discuss 05:22, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
And Oshwah, I think the whole history section need not be moved like that. What I thought was the new article can be expanded with more details like the other football articles. History of FC Barcelona is like that. The present article can have the history section, but only having some overview. It was with this intention that I voted to split. Kichu🐘 Discuss 05:28, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Kashmorwiki! You're welcome! I'm always happy to assist newer editors and help! We were all new to Wikipedia at one point in time, and I make sure that I make myself available and offer my assistance to make things easier for them. :-) To help answer your concern: the point of splitting an article like that is to move the content over to a separate article because it has become large or in-depth enough to where it needs its own article. We don't want to have the same content on both pages; it would cause editors to add content to one, then add different content to the other, which would defeat the purpose and create redundancy. What we want to do is move the content over to that new article, then go back to where the content was removed, and summarize what the content on the new article is covering. This way, readers get a preview of what they're going to read about when they click to read the history article that you created. Does that make sense? Let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:05, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Yes got the point, so now Im also going to work on it. I will summarise the history section with the required main points, reduce its size, then will add that summary to the main article. Once again thankyou for clarifying it.:) Have a great day ahead. Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kashmorwiki (talkcontribs) 06:37, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Kashmorwiki - Awesome! Stay in touch, and let me know how things go. Keep up the great work you're doing, and good luck. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:44, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Huggle

Hello Oshwah, sorry for cluttering up your talk page with one more thread! You were the most experienced editor that came to mind that uses Huggle - a few days ago I managed to close the queue, and now can't get it back again. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, but it just returns the same problem (there's probably a local config file stored somewhere on my machine that I can't find). Would you happen to know how to get it back? Thanks, Pahunkat (talk) 20:48, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Pahunkat! No apologies are needed at all; this is what user talk pages are meant for, and I'm more than happy to help you out! :-) Are you using Windows? Try navigating to C:\Users\[YOUR USER ACCOUNT]\AppData\Local\Wikimedia\Huggle and renaming that Huggle folder to Huggle1 or something different, and see if that resets your view settings when you re-launch Huggle. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:07, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Oshwah, that did the trick! The UI's been reset back to normal. Also thanks for the speedy CU check on an SPI I recently filed :-) Pahunkat (talk) 21:16, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Canberra Hotel Brisbane

You deleted my work. I was at the Canberra Hotel leading up to the demolition. I worked there. I have a lot of information to add, but there is no "citation". The experience is from my direct memory and I remember it well. I have never edited a Wiki page before but I found a complaint in a Facebook page about this and other venues in Brisbane about the lack of information on this page so I decided to fix it. How should this information (direct from someone who was living and present at the time, rather than from a book) be handled? Hilda Figgins. Hilda Figgins (talk) 05:51, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Hilda Figgins! Thanks for leaving me a message here. Your edits, as explained here on my user talk page, constitute original research. Original research is not allowed on Wikipedia. Original research is where someone adds content to articles and cites "themselves" as the source. We cannot accept content that is referenced like that, because it is impossible to prove. For example, I cannot cite my own experience, relationships, or even my own submitted articles or work, to reference anything on Wikipedia. All content on Wikipedia must be attributable to a reliable source. This is why I removed the content you added to the article. If you haven't read through Wikipedia's getting started page or gone through Wikipedia's new user tutorial, I highly recommend that you do so. Please let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything, and I'll be more than happy to help you out. :-) Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a great rest of your day. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:58, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
That's very sad I guess as there is no book where this information is recorded and I don't intend to publish one, nor become a regular Wikipedia contributor, so it will just be lost and forgotten. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hilda Figgins (talkcontribs) 06:02, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
Hilda Figgins - Sorry, Hilda. Encyclopedias just cannot reference original research. All content needs to be able to be proven with reliable sources. If we didn't have these policies, Wikipedia would be completely unreliable and inaccurate. If you have questions or need anything, please don't hesitate to let me know. :-) Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a great day and happy editing. :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:11, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

May i know why you removed the external link? I also want to know how can i add link so that it can be approved? Rishi1010 (talk) 06:04, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Rishi1010! The external link you added appeared to be advertising the website and wasn't a reference to a source that appeared to be reliable. This is why I removed the link. If you want to get the external link approved, you can discuss it on the article's talk page and ask the community if the link should be included. If you have any more questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. You should also see Wikipedia's policy on external links. This page will help you and should answer any questions. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:48, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

Aspersions?

Hi Oshwah, hope you're well... You've given me some great advice over the years about how to deal with difficult talk page situations. I wonder if you could help me out with something again? There's an editor who at Talk:Turkish people last year accused me of making racist comments, though they later agreed to remove it. The other day though, they've returned to say again that those comments were "problematic", "inappropriate", and "offensive" remarks about Turkish people, and though they didn't say "racist", it seems to amount to the same thing. I'm finding this very stressful, and have literally been losing sleep over it...

I try to take a zero-tolerance approach to racism. I'm worried that other editors will read these allegations and make assumptions about me, even though they can read my comments for themselves, and I don't see how they can be reasonably considered racist, inappropriate, or offensive.

I don't know if you'd have time to look into it, but my comments they objected to are here: [22] and here: [23], where I gave examples to illustrate the ambiguity of the word "native", and the difference between the phrases "native of" and "native to"; for example that African- or European-Americans can be "natives of" the US, but only Native Americans are considered "native to" America. At User talk:78.171.71.17 they've said why they consider those examples to be offensive and racist towards Turkish people, though they agreed to remove the comment about "racist undertones" here: [24]. However, they've returned again saying those comments were "problematic" and "inappropriate" remarks about Turkish people: [25] (the IPs and account are the same person). When I asked on their talk page, they confirmed that by "inappropriate", they meant "offensive": [26]

They've said they consider Turkish people as an ethnic group to be an indigenous native people of Turkey, "analogous to Native Americans", and they personally self-identify as such. They say this is proven by genetics studies showing a predominant admixture with older Anatolian populations. I've said that despite these studies, reliable sources don't generally use the terms "indigenous" or "native" for the Turkish people and culture, and as I understand, they find this personally offensive and racist. I don't mean to tell them how they may self-identify, but I guess we can't use that to build an encyclopedia.

Maybe I'm over-reacting? I've been editing for about fifteen years and nobody has ever accused me of racist or inapproprate remarks about a particular ethnic group. I edit in a lot of Middle Eastern articles, often helping enforce WP:NPOV, so my reputation as a fair and neutral editor is important to me. I've tried to discuss it with them, but they continue to say that I've made inappropriate and offensive remarks. So I just don't really know what to do now. Usually I try to ignore any insults, but accusations of racism on such a visible talk page seems like something I don't want to just put up with. But I'm afraid going to ANI would also be stressful.

They've also complained that I've been uncivil. I admit that I may have been sharp with them once out of frustration with a tedious argument about a dictionary, that made little sense. I think it was very minor, but I've apologized. On the other hand, it seems like they're alleging some serious misconduct that I think is unfair.

Anyway, sorry for this being so long, as I said it's stressful and maybe I'm over-thinking it. Maybe you could let me know what you think? Thanks. --IamNotU (talk) 15:22, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi IamNotU! Thanks for leaving me a message here regarding your interaction with another editor. I'm sorry that their responses are causing you stress and frustration - that's certainly no fun, and I'm hoping that I can help you out and relieve most (if not all) of that stress. :-)
I skimmed through the diffs you provided, and took a quick look at things for you without going too far in-depth. On the surface, I don't see how you were trying to be intentionally "racist" or "offensive" in your comments. You may have been a bit stern with them with your words (as you said), but I see that you've tried your best to apologize to the user and assure them that you mean no harm - and I believe that you're not at all trying to be racist or offensive. I think the problem is with them - they're taking your thoughts offensively, and they're voicing that frustration and voicing their thoughts. I don't see that ANI is the option yet, but it's up to you in the end if you want to file a report. That's your prerogative, and I won't stop anyone from filing a report if they feel the need to do so. My advice? Just apologize, say that you intended no harm (it looks like you've already done this), and move on. You've voiced your thoughts on what should be stated in the article, and that user has stated their thoughts. I'd let other users weigh in on the discussion and give input on what the words should be. You've done your part, and the responses are stressing you out. Don't keep yourself in that stressful position... you don't need that. :-)
I hope that my advice is helpful. If you have any more questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to answer them and work things out with you. Don't stress! You're going to be fine, and you've done your best to be helpful. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:25, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback, it's helpful as always. Unfortunately though, I'm still feeling really stressed about this, and haven't been able to do my usual Wikipedia activities the last few days. I'm just kind of stuck: I don't want to make it a federal case at ANI, I shouldn't drag out discussion of user behavior on the article talk page, and going to their user talk page hasn't been very helpful. Other kinds of dispute resolution don't seem like they'd be productive, but maybe I'm not seeing something? I don't feel like just doing nothing, and letting the aspersions stand without saying anything, is the right thing. So all I can think of at the moment is to leave probably overwrought messages for you :-)
It just seems unfair that they can make erroneous allegations in public that I've made racist, inappropriate, and offensive comments about an ethnic group (even if they actually believe it), and that I have to just smile and walk away, without defending myself. I do generally just try to move on if someone becomes difficult or starts slinging mud. But in this case I don't think they should be able to do that without consequences. I'm not saying I'm incapable of having any racist attitudes even if I'm not trying intentionally to, but I think the description at WP:CRYRACIST is relevant here. Given the increasing seriousness with which such comments are being taken these days, e.g. people losing their jobs over inappropriate social media remarks, I think it's also important to not accept allegations and rumors being casually thrown around when people aren't getting their way in an argument.
I'm afraid I may not have explained things very clearly to you. It sounds like you got the impression that the part where I was a bit stern led to the accusations of inappropriate comments, and that me apologizing would be helpful, but it wasn't like that. The user had stated that "Turkish people are analogous to Native Americans", and I politely said that, despite DNA studies, reliable sources as a rule don't describe them as an indigenous/aboriginal/autochthonous native people of Anatolia. This is what they described as "racist", though they later retracted it. But half a year later, they've shown up and again alleged that the comment, along with examples I had given back then that European- or African-Americans can be "natives of" the US, but not "native to" or "native Americans", were "problematic" and "inappropriate" remarks about Turkish people that they found offensive. I can't see how they could reasonably be described as such, and I don't feel I have anything to apologize for about that.
Where I was a bit sharp was when they had stubbornly insisted on a rather absurd interpretation of a sentence in the dictionary, to the point of being quite tiresome. English is not their first language, and I had tried again to politely explain it, but after half a dozen times gave up. I probably didn't need to add the part about not being here to give free English lessons, which I did apologize for, but I had lost patience with their contentious behavior. Maybe I should ask for a WP:3O on that just to settle it. But this had nothing to do with the other statements they had said were racist or inappropriate, and again I don't see that there's anything in that regard that I need to apologize for - on the contrary.
Well, again sorry for the length of this, but if you have any more insight, please let me know! --IamNotU (talk) 14:53, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi IamNotU! Thanks for the response and for keeping me up-to-date with what's going on. It's not easy to be called something like a "racist" and know how to respond appropriately. Who is the user? I could talk to them if you'd like me to... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:52, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Hello, I think this issue concerns me. I had recently deleted some of my talk page convos, and checked IamNotU's contributions to see if the issue was resolved (since they mentioned potential for pursuing it further) and just saw these messages. I hope it's ok I'm jumping in here. As I tried to explain here [27], I didn't mean to cause stress. I tried to explain that I know IamNotU was just giving examples for the usage of a word, so I didn't consider their intent negative/offensive, I just tried to communicate my own opinion; maybe I didn't do a good enough job. Reading the messages here, I want to reiterate that I didn't mean to cause stress, especially during these Covid times. So, my apologies to IamNotU once again. I reverted my last article page edit [28]. IamNotU, let me know if this solves the issue. Bogazicili (talk) 18:57, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
IamNotU - Did you see the response that Bogazicili left for you above? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:57, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Let me know if there are any further comments I should redact or remove from the article talk page. I didn't mean to discourage people editing Wikipedia. Bogazicili (talk) 19:33, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

AlMichaels1727

I've just closed up the cases at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/AlMichaels1727. Alibino (talk · contribs) was previously OmegySock, an openly owned alternate of EpicOmegy (talk · contribs). EpicOmegy didn't get a mention in the SPI. I was wondering whether throwing that account into the mix improved confidence in the CU results? Thanks, Cabayi (talk) 16:34, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Cabayi! I don't remember that it did, no. The country in which the IP addresses were from is what factored into my response. If I remember correctly, it was a place where IP addresses are often shared between people. Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:15, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. There comes a point where blocked is blocked and there's no point worrying over what flavour of block is in place. Cabayi (talk) 19:19, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

Check this out!

Hey Oshwah, can you check out Wikipedia:Oshwahnism, which I may or may not have created? Let me know how funny it is. Tucker Gladden 👑 04:30, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

TuckerGladden - LOL. You know that Wikipedia:WikiProject Oshwah exists, right? ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:08, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Tucker Gladden on Mobile - HA! I'll leave that page for other people to edit. It would be grossly inappropriate for me to edit a page about myself; conflict of interest, right? LOL ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:57, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, I can respect that. Also, you do a great job on AfD, vandalism, and hair. All love and cheers, Tucker Gladden on Mobile (talk) 07:00, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Lazy revert by this editor.

Numerous constructive, good-faith edits all undone by a lazy admin who didn't like one edit at Aniseikonia that included an (appropriate) external link under the "External Links" heading! Good one. So you tell me: what did you expect to find under the "External Links" heading?

I am looking forward to a glorious future when WP admin's/editors who abuse their power like this are punished, instead of continually picking on IP editors with impunity.

—DIV (1.129.106.159 (talk) 06:02, 27 February 2021 (UTC))

Actually, even an apology would be a nice improvement. And, to be fair, I have received one. I appreciate that. Thanks. I still think the external link was legitimate, though. —DIV (1.129.106.159 (talk) 06:04, 27 February 2021 (UTC))
Let me take a deeper look at the external link and get back to you... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:06, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

This is Angele Sabu I deleted the content because it had lot of grammatical errors. I was just going to post it by that time the edit was reverted.Angele Sabu (talk) 06:51, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Angele Sabu! Thanks for responding and for letting me know. Instead of completely removing that section, why not just fix the grammatical errors in the same edit? That will both keep the content available, and make it more clear of what you're doing. Just remember that leaving edit summaries are important, as they help explain to other editors what you're doing and why. If you have any questions or need any assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be more than happy to help you. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:56, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

This is the message I received from Jns4eva (talk): So I did some research and you're absolutely right, the ages were not updating despite the fact that they are supposed to. After checking Template:Birth_date_and_age, I found that this can be relatively common and is fixed by purging the page, either with a blank edit or by adding "?action=purge" to the URL of the article. I've fixed both of the examples you've provided and I hope this helps! Feel free to fix any other errors or if you have any questions, please let me know! Jns4eva (talk) 21:34, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

So I am trying to change the ages because they are not updating by themselves. I am not trying in any means to vandalize anything I just want the ages to be up to date instead of having the age the same after their birthday like example: Before I changed Pete Willis's age to 61 it kept saying he was still 60 years old & that was 5 DAYS AFTER his birthday. At least update the ages. it gets annoying seeing the ages stay the same. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DefLeppardRules (talkcontribs) 19:22, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi DefLeppardRules! Thanks for letting me know about this. This can be common on some tables on some articles and pages - especially if they're long. I apologize for the confusion reverting your changes.
