Vinilkosmo^[1] is an independent non-profit record label founded in 1990 specializing in music in the Esperanto language and aimed at the Esperanto-speaking community. It is based in the town of Donneville outside of Toulouse, France, and headed by Floréal Martorell.

History

Floreal Martorell, the founder of Vinilkosmo, had been active in the Toulouse music scene.

EUROKKA:

In 1988, after learning Esperanto and taking an interest in music recorded Martorell formed an organization for musicians performing in Esperanto, Esperanto-Universala Rok-Organizo, Kolektiva Komunik-Asocio (EUROKKA)

First release:

According to Martorell, the plan to start a record label was hatched at a EUROKKA meet-up in Toulouse in 1989. The label's name, which means "Vinyl Cosmos" in Esperanto, was suggested by JoMo.(La Onda) Vinilkosmo's first album, a "compilette", featuring two songs each by Amplifiki and La Rozmariaj Beboj, was released in May 1990. (VK, newsletter, album blurb) The money to finance the release came from EUROKKA dues and from the proceeds of a small bar Martorell operated at his practice space for the benefit of bands rehearsing there. Fire:

In _ 2011, a fire broke a one of the practice spaces and spread to storage space used by the label. The event was widedly reported and discussed in the Esperanto-language press and on-line media. The labeled launched a sale of salvaged CDs (playable but with damaged covers) to raise money
