Edmund Ignatius Rice, F.P.M., C.F.C. (Irish: Éamonn Iognáid Rís; 1 June 1762 – 29 August 1844) was a Catholic missionary and educationalist who founded two institutes of religious brothers: the Congregation of Christian Brothers and the Presentation Brothers.

Rice was born in Ireland at a time when Catholics faced oppression under Penal Laws enforced by the British authorities, though reforms began in 1778 when he was a teenager. He forged a successful career in business and, after an accident that killed his wife and left his daughter disabled and with learning difficulties, thereafter devoted his life to the education of the poor.

Christian Brothers and Presentation Brothers schools around the world continue to follow the traditions established by Rice (see List of Christian Brothers schools). (Full article...)

Jeremy Hickey (also known as Rarely Seen Above Ground—abbreviated as R.S.A.G.—) is an Irish multi-instrumentalist and producer from Kilkenny. He has released four albums and one EP. Rarely Seen Above Ground (2007) Organic Sampler (2008) Be It Right Or Wrong (2010)Rotate EP (2013) and Chroma (2020).

R.S.A.G released his debut double album Organic Sampler which received a Choice Music Prize nomination for Irish Album of the Year 2008 along with a 5 star review from the Irish Times. His follow up "Be It Right Or Wrong" was also received with critical acclaimed and earned him 5 stars in the RTE ten magazine. 2013's "Rotate EP" was named as one Nialler 9's top 10 EP's that year. His latest album "Chroma" which is hailed as his finest piece of work to date was released on 29 May. The Irish Times calling it 'One of the best Irish albums of 2020'. His live show has been a staple of the Irish Festival scene for years showcasing his talent as a live performer. He has performed at several festivals, including Castlepalooza, Electric Picnic and Body & Soul and is rumoured to be "one of the most innovative and astonishing Irish musicians around" Entertainment.ie (Full article...)

Katharine O'Mahoney (née Katharine Aloysia O'Keeffe; 1852/1855 – January 2, 1918) was an Irish-born American educator, lecturer, and writer. A teacher of poetry to Robert Frost, she was the author of Famous Irishwomen (1907). O'Mahoney was one of the first Catholic women in New England, if not in the United States, to speak in public from the platform. Among her lectures may be mentioned "A Trip to Ireland" (illustrated); "Religion and Patriotism in English and Irish History" (illustrated); "Mary, Queen of Scots", and "Joan of Arc" (both illustrated); "An Evening with Milton, including recitations from Paradise Lost", illustrated with fifty views from Dore; "An Evening with Dante, including recitations from the Divine Comedy", illustrated by seventy-six views from Dore; and "The Passion Play of Oberammergau". Michael Joseph 'Mikey' Drennan (born 2 February 1994) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a striker, most recently for St Patrick's Athletic. Drennan has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level and won the Football Association of Ireland's Under-16 International Player of the Year in 2010. Drennan was scouted by then Premier League side Aston Villa and spent five years in their youth and reserve sides where he was loaned out to English Football League sides Carlisle United and Portsmouth. He returned to Ireland, playing for Shamrock Rovers, local side Evergreen, Sligo Rovers and St Patrick's Athletic. (Full article...)

Thomas Moore (17 October 1890 – 14 May 1973) was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with the Faughs hurling club and was a member of the Dublin senior inter-county team. Tommy also served as Chairman of Faughs for a total of forty years (1929–69). He became a recipient of the Hall of Fame Award and the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship trophy is now called the Tommy Moore Cup. (Full article...)
