About

[edit]

Jobedu is a creative space where passionate, talented, dedicated people from many disciplines come together to make awesome stuff. everything done is geared towards spreading creativity everywhere . Jo Bedu is a creative platform for Arab designers, illustrators and writers to have fun with their culture, spread their messages on all sorts of products and make some money doing it! It is also a platform for arab artists to shop and make pop culture masterpieces on t-shirts,hoodies, posters and more . It all started in 2007 when high school friends and co-founders of Jobedu Tamer AlMasri and Micheal "Meesh" Makdah wanted to experiment with creating an Arab brand people would be proud of . They Printed 6 Funny slogans on genetic t-shirts and setup a booth at a Friday Market in amman , Jordan

Background

[edit]
in 2007 , at high school both teenage friends Tamer AlMasri and Micheal "Meesh" Makdah took their passions and decided to put them together . After graduating from university , they wanted to do something that makes them feel proud and it was an Arab brand. Whats its going to do ? how its going to look like wasnt fully decided by that time . The idea only just came up . the mission was to make something people could be seen proud and feel belonging to it, and that was their inspiration . The first discussion was only made at a coffee shop where they were thinking and planning ways to make a huge impact on arabs; how to make people feel that they belong to where they live in and with what surrounds them the starting point of their journey was the production of t -shirts that to them seemed like non verbal ways of communicating. these products can walk around showing people the bigger picture behind jobedu "Self moving advertisement". Both were committed at making the best out of nothing.

when they first started jobedu, both co-founders didn't have a start , they were actually working at a basement . everything was in boxes , people would call them ordering t the t-shirts and they would end up selling them on the back seat of their car . after that jara (سوق جارة) came along and to them it was a fun experience as they had the oppertunity to have a store and interact with customers . they were always on the road , and saw that relevant to the bedwans for always moving . at the beginning both friends came up withg 43 ideas during their discussion at the caffe , but ended up doing 6 of them .

[edit]

Jobedu was an invented word , it didn't carry any meaning of structure or anything it was only a name that presents creativity and belonging .

Jobedu is about making the best out of nothing "Resource optimization" jobedu is a way to extract a business model from how resourceful and inventive the bedwan culture is . so instead of taking a business model from the west they could find a home grown business model which is based on how to make the most out of nothing . both co- founders felt that they were mimicking the same model and the same mindset and the thought process of the bedwians when producing and how to fit all the inventory into one care how does the booth look like, and how could we optimize the shape of the booth so that it can fit in the car with the products they saw that their mind set and their thought of making the best out of nothing mimicked the thought process of the bedwans this was the great message that company's name carries growing organically grass roots with the people feels accommodating and brings hospitable as the bedwan culture as well .

 ==== Strengths ====

there were no problems faced on the market because it was a shoking idea , that as well made themselves also shocked from the public's response . the public's response was their biggest motivator to come back and do more . the peoples response showed to them that they made a promise with those people and they needed to keep that promise by always remaining and improving and giving their best .

Challenges faced at the beginning

[edit]
  1. not knowing the legal infrastructure of the business in Jordan , at the beginning they faced many surprises and one of them was when they opened a company without a store . in that time they couldn't afford to open a store . after finally having the opportunity to open a store they paid penalties for three years , so basically most of their money was wasted on penalties .
  2. although there was a huge number of people interacting towards jobedu and its market the business was very small . peoples expectations were higher from the actual performance of the business. so another obstacle faced was telling people how not so big their business is as they have no stores .yet besides not having any stores, the people see them as having a very strong brand .
  3. understanding legal structures , was another problem faced . a situation was faced in front of the ghaza issue where they wanted to release a t-shirt related for ghaza . at that that moment they met an obstacle legally and had to find a way around it . unfortunately they ended up losing t-shirts , they ended up feeling scared at some point for the risk their going to make releasing that t-shirt . aside all of that at the end of the day they decided to do it because the t-shirt was for a really good cause .

stores

With a name that stems from our Jordanian Bedouin Heritage, Jo Bedu is one of Jordan’s coolest t-shirt stores! At their small colorful store in Jabal Al Weibdeh, and Abdoun Jo Bedu has over 60 designs… mostly with funny Arabic slogans or common slang words, some English designs like “Wadi Rum and coke” or “I Survived Mansaf” or “ Got jameed?” are also available.

Their t-shirts have become a great hit around Jordan and even made it to different parts of the world! At Tahrir Square during the Egyptian revolution, a gentleman wore their “one love” T-shirt. In the UK one of Jordan’s finest talents, singer Aya Marar wore the “one love” T-shirts at one of her gigs. At the Arab’s Got Talent competition in Lebanon, the Jordanian dancers wore the “I (camel) JO” t-shirts!

Stop by their store for a few gifts to take back home, or to wear around the world and show off your Jordanian style! You will surely get people stopping you to ask where you got the t-shirt or what it means!
