Retzawl is a village, located in Dima Hasao (commonly known for N C Hills) District of Assam state, India. Haflong, the district headquarters is 16 kms aways by existing state road, on its eastern and Harangajao, on its western. Retzawl village was believed to be established dates back to 1880's and it had been named after a plain of rubber trees (a plain where rubber trees were naturally grown). The word 'RETZAWL' is in a native language of the Hmars, meaning 'the plain of rubber trees' or 'rubber trees plain'. The 'Thieks' are the sub-tribe of the Hmars and of whom, some members who had founded have been ruling over others members of the village. Thiek language is popularly spoken. The rule of this village is hereditary kingship of the Tuolor's Family.
