William V. Mayer (1920-1989) was professor emeritus of biology at the University of Colorado at Boulder and editor-in-chief of Bookwatch. He held an A.B. in zoology from the University of California and a Ph.D. in biology from Stanford University. Mayer served as associate director and director of Biological Sciences Curriculum Study in Colorado Springs, CO, and was a past president and honorary member of NABT. He was chairman of NABT's 50th anniversary committee and editor of Scientific Integrity.
