2009 Lithuania–Russia crisis

A couple of editors from Lithuanian Wikipedia proposed speedy, which was declined (no valid reason given), so I thought I should bring it here. The article is a rather minor news item that does not rise to the level of "crisis". There are issues with notablity, news-worthiness, neutrality. Maybe if it continues to grow into something bigger, it would become something more than a random news story, but that's crystalballing. Renata (talk) 13:52, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

• Delete. The nominator is correct; there's no indication that this qualifies as a "crisis." It seems more like a relatively minor border control issue. A queue of 2,000 trucks is not that much. • Delete - another "fine" article by Samogitia. Here's his other one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/2008_genocide_of_Georgians_in_South_Ossetia. Actually no. I'll quote: "On August 13, 2009 there was a que of 2000 trucks". Now in the English language, the word "was" means that there were 2,000 trucks waiting on the Russo-Lithuanian border. That's all the sentence says. There's no drama. "was in que" means 2,000 trucks were waiting. So what? That means the Russian system of transportation isn't superbly efficient. And, this constitutes a crisis, how? Does Wikipedia get an article everyday when Russia's transportation authority messes up? Does Wikipedia get an article everyday when Lithuania has more then 2,000 trucks in que? This is a joke article, and it's being used in Wikipedia to get Russian Wiki Users and Lithuanian Wiki Users to go at it. I'm glad that's not happening. • Keep Notable enough in economic impact. I'd rename to something more specific, 2009 isn't over yet, 2009 Lithuanian-Russia transit conflict for example. • Delete. This is not a crisis, this is back to normal. The decline of the Russian ruble and high inflation rates in the Baltic states has fueled the post-Soviet variant of border shopping. Perhaps someone would write an article on that phenomenon? ^Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\^Work 22:21, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Comment on comment. Hard to say what larger article this could be part of. Short version would be something like: "Policy of the open stretched-out palm" or "How to run a semi-privatized customs department", or perhaps just: "Corruption in the post-Soviet society" ^Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\^Work 06:46, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
