The Bills–Colts rivalry is a National Football Leaguerivalry between the Buffalo Bills and the Indianapolis Colts Because they play in different intraconference divisions, the Bills in the AFC East and the Colts in the AFC South, they do not play each other every year. Instead, based on the NFL's scheduling formula, the two teams play each other at least once every three seasons and at least once every six seasons at each team's home stadium when their divisions are paired up, sometimes more often if the two teams meet in the playoffs or they finish in the same place in their respective divisions.[1][2][3]
Despite this, the Bills and Colts were AFC East division rivals from 1970 to 2001 (dating prior to the Colts' move from Baltimore to Indianapolis), as the Colts were moved into the newly formed AFC South following the 2001 season as part of the NFL's realignment. The Bills lead the overall series 38–33–1, which includes one playoff meeting in 2020.
