The 2007 Dragon Boat Tragedy was an incident that occured 23 November 2007 in Cambodia.
History
[edit]In 2007, Cambodia decided to invite the members of ASEAN to a dragon race as a part of the three-day Bon Om Tuk festival, a festival celebrated at the end of November to mark the end of the monsoon and the Tonle Sap river's current reversing to its lake source. 9 of the 10 members participated including Singapore.
On 22 November 2007, the Singapore Dragon Boat Team arrived in Cambodia. On the same day, the coach Nasim Karim noticed that even though the Tonle Sap River's looked calm, its currents were very strong.
