Surgeon Vice Admiral Madhuri kanitkar PVSM, SM, VSM is a former 3 star Flag Officer of the Indian Navy and the Indian Army. SurgVAdm Madhuri kanitkar was the Third woman in India to don the second highest rank i.e. Lieutenant General <[1] and the female Surgeon Vice Admiral of Indian Navy.[2]
Early life
[edit]She was born into a Kannadi family. Madhuri Rajeev Kanitkar was born on the 15th October of 1960 in Dharwar, India; the daughter of Chandrakant Gopalrao and Hemalata Chandrakant Khot.[3]
Education
[edit]In 1982, she received a degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, India. In 1991 she graduated from Bombay University with a Doctor of Medicine degree in Pediatrics.he joined Armed Forces Medical College, Pune [4]
Career
[edit]Madhuri Rajeev Kanitkar From 1982-2005 Madhuri Kanitkar served a Lieutenant colonel at Indian military. [5] From 1982-1987 she was a Medical officer at Army Medical College Hospital, Jodhpur, India and also in Mumbai, India, 1987-1991. Since 2001 she is an Associate professor at Armed Forces Medical College and Command Hospital, Pune.[6]
Awards and medals
[edit]She has been awarded with 15 medals in her 37 years of career in Indian Armed Forces.[7]

Madhuri won the same for being the best MBBS student at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. Madhuri Kanitkar is the first trained pediatric nephrologist of the armed forces, along with her husband she set up units to monitor kidney ailments in children in Pune and Delhi.
