DYK for Buck Creek State Park

Updated DYK query On February 10, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Buck Creek State Park, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Congrats - just saw it on the Main Page! 62? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 22:26, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Good to know I can still count - I saw your email, thanks. Hope it all works out and I will reply. I also have a big article from the Sun-Gazette on the 2008 Woodmen's show, just need to find the time to work on the article. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:22, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Watchlist

I added it to my watchlist - thanks for the heads up. Let me know any others and I'll be glad to watch them. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:43, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

I already had Plum and just added High Point. Have asked about the Cherry Point astronomy pics and OTRS as it seems they should be on Commons by now. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:29, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Pix

There are four beautiful astronomy pictures from Kevin Wigell taken from CSSP on Commons now - I think on expanding we can include all four in the article. The OTRS ticket for the PennDOT bridge pic also came through finally. Phew! Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:20, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

I just emailed you the Autryville (sp?) panorama, enjoy. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:41, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Kinzua Bridge

Thanks, the article is already very well researched and written, so Dtbohrer has made my job easy. I also thought Kinzua Bridge State Park might be best to try for FAC after Cherry Springs (I had also thought of Hyner View, although that might be stuck at GA). Let me know whatever else you want watched, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 19:43, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

I watch all the PA counties, and all the NC and OH and a bunch of other states counties too. I found a book on vistas in PA which has a couple of pages on Hyner View, including the fire wardens monument. I think it can probably get to FA too, just more work to find sources. We'll miss you here on Wiki :-( Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:37, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
I am sorry I have been slow on getting Cherry Springs to FAC before your break. I will check to see if I am watching all the cities and boroughs, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:05, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. FYI, any PA state park I am involved with on the FAC will have you as a co-nominator. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:25, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Hope Mills

I see that you are active in updating the entry for Hope Mills NC. That is my hometown and I was wondering if you are from there too. Cbmclean (talk) 04:39, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

You live near the dam? So does my grandmother. Do you know Hope Mills Saw and Mower, which is a business right across from the lake? She owns it, and my father manages it.Cbmclean (talk) 02:41, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

I lived on Stone St. up until the age of four. We eventually moved to a house on Church St. Amusingly, my father's sister owns and operates the Hope Mills Hardware you mention (with her husband).Cbmclean (talk) 01:30, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

If that was in the last few years, I imagine it was one of my aunt's (she of the hardware) step-grandchildren. They are the only one's I can think of that are still in school. Where do you teach? I went to Baldwin Elementary (Known as Legion Road until I was in 3rd Grade or so) , then South View Middle, then South View High.Cbmclean (talk) 05:11, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Cherry Springs

Just found a ref for adding the airport - page 12 in this Ruhrfisch ><>°° 17:12, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

I am watching West Wyoming. I thought it was a great ref too. Also have a newer short article from the Sun-Gazette about the park's chief ranger and his wife getting an award for their work promoting the dark skies park. I am trying to think of a term for non-Native American settlers in the History section. European-Americans? Any ideas? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:59, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
OK, thanks - I'll use that. Should be able to make some progress on the article this weekend, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:13, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
I have two source questions - 1) the Cherry Springs article says Edgcomb's original tavern was razed in the 1870s, and a new larger hotel was built on the other side of the road in 1874.[7] and cites the Morey Hisistory, but I can't find that in there. 2) The article also says Cherry Springs State Park officially became part of the Pennsylvania State Parks system in 1950.[2] and cites the official park page, but I can't findthat there either (and my other sources seem to indicate it was state forest site then). Can you help? Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:23, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for checking that - Hills Creek was purchased in 1950 and is the Headquarters for CHerry Springs, maybe it came from there. I am slowly working my way through History and will add a new Dark sky park section there soon, plus Geology, Ecology, etc. Did you get snow? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:23, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

(outdent) Good to hear from you. You still have 84 more than my watchlist ;-) I am slowly but surely making my way through the park article. The History section is almost done - just need to add a bit about the history of the dark sky park (one paragraph). My thought was to have one paragraph each on the history of the Woodsmen's Show and dark sky park in History, then talk about the facilities and actual activities of star gazing and the woodsmen's show in the Recreation section. I think Geology and climate is done. Will work on Ecology next, but that will be very short (2 paragraphs, maybe 3). I really had trouble finding much there - no Important Bird Areas, no Audubon Trail sites, no State FOrest Natural Areas in Potter County (though one Wild Area). I need to get some more pictures of the park before FAC - I was thinking of the NRHP picnic shelter for the CCC section. Perhaps a picture of the airport runway? There is a great picture from 1923 of picnickers at Cherry Springs in Cupper's book that would be good in the CCC section too, but would have to be Fair Use. I miss your input and feedback - hope you like what I've been doing. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:47, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Glad you like them and caught the "ghost dog" in the panorama. I have maybe 10 more photos to upload and am working on the Astronomy section. Do you think two pics of the pavilion in the article are OK? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:42, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Cool tool

Have you seen this article creation tool?

I also enjoiyed looking at my article creations - there were one or two I had to click on to really remember. If a teaspoonful equals a 2 hour delay, what would you get for several inches? `Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:03, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Wow - that is amazing. Only southeastern PA got / is getting snow with this storm. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:34, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

West Pittston, Pennsylvania

I am watching it now. Thanks. Sorry to hear you are not feeling well, hope you are better soon. I have revised / expanded Cherry Springs up to the recreation section. I thought the way to rework that would be to start with the sort of "best place in the east" to stargaze quotes in a paragraph (perhaps repeating the Dark Sky Park designations). Then a paragraph on the natural reasons why it is a good place to stargaze (dark from forest, on top of summit, population low and in valleys far away), followed by a paragraph or two on what has been done to make it even better and the facilities there (earth berms and plantings to block out light, domes, electrcity for telescopes, etc). Then activities at the park - the two star parties, etc. Also include how very dark it is there - magnitude of very faint stars you can see, shadow from the Milky Way, etc. I also have some stuff on economic development and the proposed wind farm

Not able to expand Woodsmens as much, but have some more on it from the Sun Gazette. I then thought to combine the remaining picnic, camping, and trails into one section, perhaps adding a bit on the 85 mile STS that passes near. WHat do you think? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:38, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Hope the sick day does the trick and you are soon feeling better. The largest area in PA without a road is just south of the park (Hammersley Wild Area in the state forest). Probably worth a mention too. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 12:36, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
Glad you are feeling better and am now wathcing Rostraver (sp?). Not sure how much I will be able to do online today, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 13:06, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Castaway depot

Thanks for your feedback. I was particularly pleased to hear you found it so interesting...such appreciation is always an encouragement. The subject intrigued me when I first came across it in a museum display some time ago, and a chance remark at the refdesk reminded me of it. I have since come across some interesting stories from both survivors and government steamers... must get them down some time. Thanks again. Gwinva (talk) 06:47, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Question

I can't find a ref for this Townships in Potter County have adopted ordinances that require electrical lighting shields that eliminate the "spray" associated with light pollution. anywhere on the web - the article used to list it as the official DCNR CSSP website ref. I did find a Potter County ordinance with the wind turbones and light pollution online. Do you know where it is from? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:10, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

I looked on the Internet Archive at the oldest version of the DCNR CSSP website they had, but it is not there either. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:14, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
OK, thanks - I will keep it in and keep looking. Do you have any print sources (not on the web) it might be from?
Are you OK with the saw whet owl photo? It was not taken in the park. Take care, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:44, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I have the official park brochure and a brochure for the Dark Skies Fund to look at. Just reread Morey's History but it is not in there. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:57, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
I love the new Cook Forest and Clear Creek SF pix - great finds. Neither the park brochure nor the Dark Skies Fund have the info. I will keep looking, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:58, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
I will not remove it until it ready to go to FAC. Perhaps someone else will know the source - I will try checking the Wellsboro paper online too. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:50, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks - unfortunately they do not seem to be the missing article. There are links to Potter County's and the state's ordinances and those are in the article. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:10, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Looking for this missing article I have found several new things. One of the links you found led me to the "Pennsylvania Wilds Design Guide" which has a whole section on how to "Preserve Dark Skies" here. I think I am pretty close to finishing this enough top send it to PR. Have a good night, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:14, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
So I think I am finally about done with the Astronomy section. It is so long that I wonder if we should split it into two sections - first part could be Dark skies, second coould be Stargazing or something like it (split at the paragraph after the wind farm, never planned to become a dark sies park). I also did not put in anything about auroras and meteor showers (latter is in the history, there are Aurora Borealis pics in some news articles). Not sure too about the township regs and the sentence on the kinds of telescopes - I am guessing they both come from the newspaper article you saw. The Penna Outdoor Lighting Council (name?) website lists some dark sky laws but does not have the Potter County wind turbine law, so they have missed the twp laws too. The Woodsmen's show and the Picnics, camping and trails sections should go much faster. Then two notes (acreage and Cherry Springs Drive stuff). Then redo the lead to reflect all the other changes. Take care, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:16, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
PS Thanks for updating the other 20 must see parks leads. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:19, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
I split it - I think it is all OK under Recreation. Also added the meteor and aurora sentence and fixed two refs that were out of numerical order. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:27, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks - I nominated it for the April Fools DYK - DYK that Cherry Springs Airport in Potter County, Pennsylvania, was closed because the starlight there was too bright? (ALT is that the sky was too dark). If it doesn't make it for APril Fools I will nominate if for regular DYK. I also wondered about GA for it - it is short, but just about every ref I could find is there. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:46, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
It is my usual new article (red link removal) before FAC. I seem to recall someone fixing up the Mid-State Regional Airport article after I started it, so I may ask them to look at this one too (and see if they think it is a potential GA). Take care, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 18:58, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

(out) I am watching it now. I had to laugh that Poseidon is a resident of Jessup - who knew? The PHMC is planning on closing the Joseph Priestley House so I need to add that to the article, plus busy in real life too. I think researchwise I am done with Cherry Springs - just need to find the time to write it. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:21, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

The Conrad Weiser Homestead, Niagara, Priestley, the Fort Pitt museum, and two others are all on the chopping block. It makes me sick. Priestley has chemists to rally and may be saved somehow (American Chemical Society sponsorship or help perhaps) but no idea if that will work or who will save the others. There is more on Talk:Joseph Priestley House too. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:48, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Joseph Priestley House and White Deer Hole Creek

Raul654 has said that Priestley House will appear on the Main Page here. WDHC has 4 points at the WP:TFA requests page and 9 supports, some strong. I think both will be on the Main Page before too long - when I know dates I will let you know. I am off to redo the lead on Cherry Springs - do you want me to wait or send it to PR right away? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:53, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

So I am mulling it over. Not sure what to do with this sentence in the current lead All the other dark sky parks in the United States are in the west or Pacific Ocean at the Natural Bridges National Monument, Bryce Canyon National Park, both in Utah and Mauna Kea in Hawaii. - it comes from the New York Times article, but is too specific for the lead. They are about to certify a dark sky park in Ohio (though it is not as good / dark as CSSP), which kind of ruins the west only part. Of the places mentioned, only Natural Bridges is in the article as the first dark skies park so I am not sure where to put the other parks - should I add them or axe them?
As for the rest of the lead, I thought maybe add geology (plateau) and defintely well known for the some of best dark skies in the Eastern US to the 1st paragraph in the lead, then have the second paragraph be mostly history (natives, tavern and turnpike, lumber, CCC and NRHP pavilion, maybe airport and Woodsmen's show) and brief ecology, plus geology if not in 1st paragraph. The third paragraph could be specifics on stargazing (1st DCNR Dark Sky park, 2nd International Dark Sky, national press, two star parties, public programs, take over airport, 20 Must See Parks) and mention other activities (Woodsmen, camping, picnics, trails). Sound OK? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:12, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, thanks. I used rollback to revert an edit without a summary (trout slap). Do you want to look things over before PR or should I just nnominate it when I am done? I had no idea I would find so much information on one little park - I want to do Hyner View next, the lack of sources will be a relief ;-) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:23, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
If all goes well I should finish the lead this afternoon or evening and will just go ahead and submit it to PR in both our names then. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 17:36, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
I have - thanks - am having some internet access issues, not sure how much I will be able to be on here for the next few days. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:07, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Cherry Springs PR

The nom is in at Wikipedia:Peer review/Cherry Springs State Park/archive1. Sorry it took me so long. I can ask a few of the usual suspects for input. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:31, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks too for adding the Hills Creek complex to Patterson and Prouty Place. Cupper and Forrey have some on Denton Hill and I found a New York Times article on it while looking for CSSP stuff, so I will add it to my ever-growing list. I also want to add the PA 44 stuff to Patterson and my beloved UPBSP (I think I will try to expand that all at once and get a DYK). Thanks too for the DYK good wishes, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:40, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
I was pleasantly surprised (and a little overwhelmed) by all the stuff I found on the Wellsboro Green Free Library's online newspaper archive. My guess is they might have something about Lyman Run. Travel safely and Happy Easter, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 18:02, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

I keep editing the page, and you keep undoing it. I need to establish a dialog with you. I've tried very hard to figure out how... Maybe this will work. I'm new at this (Wikipedia), but not to the technology. I know I need to learn the 'rules' and any help would be great. Just tell me what you think I'm doing wrong for starters...  :)

Thanks - that is cool, but I would not want to be famous - any time I have seen someone who is well-known they have been pestered by the general public - no thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:34, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks very much! In over an hour there has only been one edit (well intentioned) and my revert - much less than when Larry's Creek was on the Main Page it seems. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:49, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
Spoke too soon - vandalism picked up later, but still feels less than what Larrys got. I was hoping there was some great thing about the creek I did not know that some IP user would drop in (like Herbert Hoover fishing on the First Fork of Larrys when it was TFA), but no such luck. I do like the Ecology section suggestion and there were some useful tweaks to the prose, as well as the ongoing US state / United States / USA debate. I am watching Windber. I told TonyTheTiger I would help with a bridge article after CSSP, then back to another park - do you prefer Hyner View (last of the West Branch Must Sees) or Kinzua Bridge (thanks to DTBohrer's great work on the bridge article, should be easier) for the next run at FAC? I found several NY Times stories on Denton Hill - will email them to you if you want. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 17:58, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Shamokin, PA (Joe Zupichich)

Well, my friend, that was my first addition to Wikipedia. It took me about an hour to figure out how to do that using the sandbox and the guidelines. According to Patrick Reynolds, Joe was on the Carpathia and helped to rescue the survivors of the Titanic. The next step is to write the article, which is a short article at best. I would really have appreciated it if you had asked me to write the article through my talk, an email, or a message post without undoing all my hard work. If this is a welcome for a newcomer to Wikipedia, it isn't very welcoming. I work 45 hours a week and don't have long stretches of time to finish all the extras that you need in one straight shot. My main reason for learning how to do edits is to try to get access to participate in the spoken Wikipedia project...and I haven't found anyone to grant me the access to upload files without doing a few edits. Black Mo pix

I like both pictures and think File:Black Moshannon State Park Wetland NicholasT.jpg is the better of the two. It is a very similar view to the left half of the panorama File:Black Moshannon SP Lake Panorama.jpg at the bottom, though the colors are better. That could be one it replaces - though the new picture is only about half as wide. Another image that could be replaced would be File:Black Moshannon SP Bog Stumps.jpg, which currently is in the "Bog Natural Area" section and has the caption Stumps from the lumber era and lily pads in the bog natural area at Black Moshannon State Park. I will let Dtbohrer know of the plan, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:14, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

What about the new pic as the lead image, the current lead image moving to the stumps spot, and axing the current stumps pic? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:29, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, I made the pic changes as noted above. I like the swan pic too. Also busy, hope all is well there, 03:00, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
I just reverted vandalism on the JPH. I looked at the swan picture more closely and at some of the other by that person on Flickr and I think the image has been manipulated - the swan is so sharp and the background is so blurred. I really like the flock of geese over the bog on FLickr, too bad it is not free. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:20, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
I am not sure what alterations are OK and what are not - the Canada geese photo I took is a crop (to focus on the birds) which is allowed. My guess is that if it was clear what has been done to the image it would be OK to use, just not sure what has been done here. I am calling it a night - thanks for the revert to JPH. I have an idea for a double DYK for the two redlinks in CSSP: DYK ... that the 85-mile (137 km) Susquehannock Trail System hiking trail passes through the Hammersley Wild Area, the largest area without a road in Pennsylvania? Do you want to work on either? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:17, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

OK, you have rollback rights now - congrats (you are the first person I have given these rights to, so let me know if it does not work). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:35, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Glad it works, it undoes all edits in a row by an editor, so if someone does a normal edit followed by vandalism, it will revert both. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:23, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

City Hall

Thanks - I reverted. It is the current city hall (and former post office). The old city hall still stands in downtown too - both are on the NRHP. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:13, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Confusingly the NRHP still lists the current city hall as the Post Office and the former city hall is listed as the City Hall. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:31, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
The "Old" City hall and "Old" Post Office - these probably have dates somewhere. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:07, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Ridgway

Sorry, I can't do anything about Commons images: I'm not a Commons administrator. Talk to User:Royalbroil, whom I know on here; he was recently made an administrator over at Commons. Nyttend (talk) 14:53, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

And about the townships, yes it would be helpful. However, it will be appreciated if, whenever you move a township, you change links to it on disambiguation pages, the county article's list of townships, and the county template. Nyttend (talk) 14:55, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks much! Nyttend (talk) 15:09, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm running Internet Explorer 7, which has tabbed browsing — basically I just get a tab for each township that needs to be moved and have them all up at once, copy/paste the county name into each move window, copy/paste my rationale into the rationale window, and hit "move". Nyttend (talk) 15:42, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Please be careful to fix links — you've leaving behind plenty of double redirects, and as I said, it would help if you updated disambiguation pages. Nyttend (talk) 20:44, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Are you not familiar with "What links here"? Click that link in the toolbox on the left side of your page, and you'll get a list of the pages that link to it — Special:WhatLinksHere/User talk:Dincher will produce a list of pages that link to your talk page. You must fix all redirects to the redirect. For example, at this moment, Colley Township, PA redirects to Colley Township, Pennsylvania, which in turn redirects to Colley Township, Sullivan County, Pennsylvania — you're required to change the redirect target to the actual title, because a double redirect won't send you to the actual page. It's also helpful, but not required, to update disambiguation pages — Laporte currently links to Laporte Township, Pennsylvania, but it would be helpful to change it to link to Laporte Township, Sullivan County, Pennsylvania. Sorry for confusing you on this. Nyttend (talk) 21:11, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

[unindent] Thanks much for your diligence! Nyttend (talk) 05:09, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Possible free photo jackpot

I just found an official website that has many photos of state parks that seem to be free as long as they are attributed: "Feel free to download the images you see to promote Pennsylvania state parks, but be sure to credit the Pennsylvania Bureau of State Parks." There is a photo of the Woodsmen's Show here which would be great to use. I have asked Jappalang if the statement make these photos free to use here, so I am waiting to upload any until I hear back. If they are free, there are several of parks we do not have any photos of now. Fingers crossed, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:05, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

I am also hopeful as I have not heard anything back on the other possible photos. Wait and see what Jappalang thinks. I am not so sure about camping at Prouty Place State Park - the DCNR page makes no mention of it, but this book (p. 250) says you can camp there. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:46, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
I have emailed the DCNR about the photos. Will let you know what I hear. I agree that camping probably happens at Prouty whether it is officially sanctioned or not. I also guess it is not an especially highly visited park (by guests or DCNR folks). Did you see I got Susquehannock Trail System done? Hammersley is next, take care Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:16, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I also wondered if it (STS) could be a potential GA. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:00, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Found a History of the PA State Forests online here. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:50, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

It has some stuff on the Williamsport Boom and on RB Winter State Park. Did not seem to have as much on "in this year this forest was founded" as I expected, but I just scanned through it. Still waiting on all picture requests. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:37, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, the 10 pics from the Wilds tour are now all on Commons, am calling it a night for now. Will work on Great Lakes next. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:31, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Cherry Springs again

Thanks so much for the link on the gas rights at Cherry Springs - I can work on adding it and Finetooth's comments tomorrow, not much time now. I also like the Hyner View link - great find! I think that may tip it to FA worthy. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:12, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

I was about to work on the CSSP peer review fixes and see you are now - thanks. Did you see the new photo too? I was going to rearrange the images. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:23, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
I like the new picture but it does not show an uncovered telescope, or anyone looking though a telescope. I still prefer the current lead image - can we take it to FAC and see what the reviewers there think? I will try and finish up the PR fixes and add the gas info etc. Take care, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:36, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
PS Not sure what the problem is - I answered on my page first, then moved this here. D'oh! Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:38, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Only one new photo has been uploaded on Commons - I asked Howcheng (who uploaded it) if there were any others (I thought it would be two uploaded). No reply yet. I like the new photo very much and appreciate having it. I have not heard anything at all from DCNR about the Woodsmen's Show photo, so I will ask about that again. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:30, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
OK, rest well - I will work on the ref dates and the gas lease info. Also add the 6.5 mile bit and that the Astronomy Field will get WiFi soon, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:48, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Assume you saw the article is at FAC (no comments yet). Wait and see, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:43, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Hope the shower is easy to repair. Am also keeping an eye on the FAC ;-) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:00, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Ouch! I personally like teflon tape to prevent leaks, but this sounds more serious. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:51, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

I will fix what you don't get to on the FAC suggestions Ruhrfisch ><>°° 10:40, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

OK, I am on it - thanks for the fixes. Hope your shower is fixed and functional again (and that there are no more repairs for you today). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 10:45, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
I will be away from my computer for a few hours. Double thanks. No new word on the OTRS picture. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:29, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
The picture has its OTRS license - I will make the template and try uploading an image wand using it first, if that is OK with you? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:12, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
I did see the Pymatuning picture - it is nice. Off to Commons. Oh and I have another double DYK nom in for Coudersport and Port Allegany Railroad and Coudersport and Port Allegany Railroad Station Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:20, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Butler in the Skull and Bones? The article says that it's only at Yale. Is this a different skull and bones for Butler? Dincher (talk) 02:35, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Hmmmm. I was checking the PSU alumni database to see if he had earned the second degree he was working on when I noticed "Skull & Bones Alumni Interest Group" listed in his profile. It's perhaps too dubious for inclusion—plus I can't link a citation to it anyway, since it is password protected. —xanderer (talk) 02:49, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I think a source that is password protected can still be used as long as it is a WP:RS - people use the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography all the time and that is a subscription based online version (so if you don't subscribe you can't access it online). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 10:56, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Wild and Natural

I am fine with adding them to the template - not sure if we should add 16 Wild Area and 61 Natural Areas separately, or if it owuld be easier as just one link to a list of them. Already weighed in on the template talk page, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:59, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to be unclear but the 61 Natural Areas are only the ones that are part of a state forest - the state park NAs are not part of the 61. There is a book on the 61 state forest NAs, and here is a website on the 22 state park natural areas. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:33, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
I emailed it to you. I have seen a DCNR map (PDF) showing all 16 wild areas, but now I can't find it. I agree that one link to a list would be better than 77 links, many (most?) red. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:02, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Virginia

A while back, during a peer review, User:Ruhrfisch recommended that I contact an editor who has listed themselves on the peer review volunteers site, under Geography. You seem to be the most relevant to get in touch with. I'm the main editor over on the Virginia article, and put the article up for FAC twice last year, getting rejected twice, mostly on minute issues. I've struggled to get a good peer review over the years, and half of the times I've had the page up for one, it went without comment. I'm hoping that you can help me in the near future in any way you can. Perhaps a detailed review, perhaps a copyedit, perhaps just some thoughts or reflections. If there's a way I can help, such as by putting the article up for another peer review or with any advice regarding it, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for your help!--Patrick «» 16:12, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you so much! I have put it up for a peer review and will remind you as you requested.--Patrick «» 20:42, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Congratulations!

woohoo! Thanks for all your hard work on this and for letting me help, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:19, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

I am also done uploading 24 state park pics. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:19, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

No hurry at all - do you want me to do the thank spam? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:38, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
June 11 (one year anniversary of the International Dark Sky Park). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:41, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
You get a point as first time on the Main Page, the article gets two points for no similar (park) article in the past 6 months, so that is 3 points, which is pretty good in terms of the requests page. The one year anniversary would be one more point, but any state park article would get three points - your choice. Ask if you want suggestions, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:52, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests only has 2 of 5 requests now. The last park article that was WP:TFA was Kaziranga National Park on August 28, 2008. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:15, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Cherry Springs State Park

<font=3> Thanks again for all your hard work and letting me help to make Cherry Springs State Park a featured article! Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:46, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Congrats

Congratulations for the well-deserved star for Cherry Springs State Park. :-) Finetooth (talk) 01:55, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
