The period 8 elements are the fifty hypothetical elements on the eigth period -or line- on the periodic table. None of these elements have been synthesized to date. Right now, their field of research is centered around nuclear physics or particle physics rather than chemistry, because these elements are hypothetical and will remain the subject of nuclear physics until any of them are synthesized, and then detected.

If we could though synthesize these elements in a large enough quantity to study their chemical properties, they would probably show completely different properties from their lighter homologues because of an altered electron configuration due to both quantum and relitavistic effects.
