CSD I7

[edit]

Hi Feydey! I've been working on CAT:CSD and have come across some of th eimages you have tagged as falling under the criteria of CSD I7. I would like to remind you that in most of the cases, another CSD (such as "no source" I4, or "no fair-use rationale when uploaded after May 6, 2006" I6) would have been more appropriate as some of the images you tagged with I7 do not qualify for it. If you have any questions, please let me answer them. :-) Thanks! --ZsinjTalk 13:17, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for getting back to me. One in particular that I saw was Image:1960-176-BING-CROSBY-4.jpg. As noted on the only article it's in, this is Bing Crosby with his second wife. If a free image of him with his second wife is out there, it would be better, but until then this one is ok. Others I saw that actually qualified under another CSD included File:21221.jpg (CSD I4) and File:060914 desousa grade10 300.jpg (CSD I5). As I said in my first message, those images (and the ones on that template's talk page) usually qualify for other, clearer CSDs. CSD I7 is mainly for images that have been uploaded for the sole purpose of being put on the wrong article (I could list scenarios, but won't). Thanks. :-) --ZsinjTalk 13:29, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

RE: Unspecified source for Image:A Love Like That chart.png

[edit]

Is it important who created the screenshot? I don't even understand why there is a screenshot of text. Shouldn't text be in text format as opposed to a graphical format? Would it be okay to replace this image with a text quote of its contents and give credit to the site it was taken from? Anyways., I think it would fall under fair use because it is used in an article that addresses the popularity of one of the songs listed in the screenshot, but I'm not really a lawyer. No More Contributions (Obwodnica Trojmiejska)

[edit]

Feydey you have to admit that those Google Earth images looked really good on the site and you can't argue that. The copyright was right because it was a screenshot so I don't see a problem. They showed the exact route and all the junctions which would have helped anyone reading the article if they were new to the road or region or just visiting. I have deleted the Obwodnica Trojmiejska article I have written since the editing by you has taken away the artistic vision I had for the article and therefore I do not want it to be viewed the way it currently is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcink7 (talkcontribs)

In many cases (but not all), primary editors engaged in ownership conflicts are also primary contributors to the article, so keep in mind that such editors may be experts in their field and/or have a genuine interest in maintaining the quality of the article and preserving accuracy.Marcink7 09:14, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Fair Use Vs Free

[edit]

Hello. I see that I've, while trying to help, actually made things worse. I really didn't think it would be a problem using the pictures, since they completed the FU statements (I think). Of course a Free one could show up, but I thought that in that case it could replace the one I found.
As Alexj2002 said on the Talk:1994_San_Marino_Grand_Prix#Removed_Pictures : "With respect anyone can use Google Images to get pictures" This is of course true, I just thought nobody bothered! So I'm sorry that anyone had to "clean up" after me, I only did it to help the F1-portal.

Thanks for uploading Image:CGursel HMQueenElizabethII.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Could you give me an example of where someone has put the email, i'm kind of new to this and this is the first time i've received permission to host an image (finally!), alot of people aren't so keen. This guy said it would be fine as long as its a low resolution copy, and he said that it would be free to be distributed to anyone since its only low reso. Indiana Jones image

[edit]

Just a question, but as the copyright owner is the same as that of the film for which this was released as a publicity still, and the image is a low-res copy of a publicity still obviously being to depict the character portrayed in it in connection with informative media on that character, why didn't you first post your comments on Talk:Indiana Jones, so the regular editors of that article, and the people most familiar with the topic (and therefore in the best position to explain fair use) could explain, "X owns the copyright to the character," and "this is providing Y information to the article that these other images do not"? I have no comment on its use in bullwhip. Postdlf 23:40, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

The case drew national headlines when it happened, and national headlines when Michael Skakel was convicted. Username

[edit]

I said this on my RfA; but repeat it here.

  • The concern about my sig is surprising; I've been asked about it only twice in all my career. My sig has always been this; changing now would mean disavowing my former edits and be perhaps more confusing. Some editors think of me by sig, some by username; changing either will puzzle somebody. If I must choose one, I would prefer the sig, which I intended as my wikipedia identity; but I have usually, and may have now, too many edits to change my username, and I do not wish to put that quite considerable burden on WP:USERNAME.

As is pointed out below your comment, policy is inconsistent on the subject. At this point, I will be criticized for this by someone whatever I do; is this reasonable? Septentrionalis 18:40, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

I have adapted your suggestion; the way things are going, my RFA will now be opposed because my signature is too long :{ Septentrionalis PMAnderson 18:18, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

India quiz

[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your message. Somewhat in a hurry right now, I just had a quick look at that quiz. Personally, I always feel discouraged from participating in anything going on online if I have to read a lot of conditions and/or if I have to register beforehand. However, if you (and/or others) think that it would be a good idea to have a link from the DYK section to the quiz rather than presenting the questions on the Portal itself, I would not have any objections. In any case, I don't consider that quiz in any way an important feature of the Literature Portal: I just consider it a concession to the homo ludens. Best wishes, <KF> 22:24, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Annie Mitcham is a well known figure in Central Georgia and has impacted the lives of many underprivileged children.

Why did you delete this entry?

15:16, 16 December 2006 (UTC)~~

A topic is notable if it has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works whose sources are independent of the subject itself.

Annie Mae Mitcham is very well known Throughout Central GA as an educator for the under privileged. She has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works whose sources are independent of her which qualifies for inclusion according to the rules.

There are several entries in this media that are far less notable and news worthy than this subject.

I didn't insult nobody. i put a warning tag as instructed by wikipedia's vandal reporting system. he is constantly vandalising Pagania discussion board my home page. This is my right. If you are so concerned about vandals, warn him, not me.

Please register or log in to give warnings or report the user to WP:AIV. Thanks, feydey 14:08, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
It doesn't say that I have to be registered in order to report vandalism.
194.152.217.129 14:16, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Then report the user to WP:AIV and let the admins warn the user. feydey 14:17, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Are you an admin? you seem to put tags on my page with ease. so did PaxEquilibrium. so did Laughing Man. I mean, I realy am not into a conspiracy theory, but that is realy too much :)

i am not Afrika nor Paprika

[edit]

Why are you repeatedly put this tag on my IP. I have nothing to do with the man. How did you come to this conclusion and how can i prove the opposite? thanks.

Excuse me, but see Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Afrika_paprika. The checkuser confirmed him being a sockpuppet of User:Afrika paprika, a violent community-banned troll. --PaxEquilibrium 14:22, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
how can that be, if I'm not?194.152.217.129 14:25, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but Checkuser's pretty conclusive. You've been self-identified as Afrika paprika by Yourself, as well. --PaxEquilibrium 19:20, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

NPWatcher approval

[edit]

You've been approved to use NPWatcher. Please give me any feature requests or bugs. I'm also happy to help if you have any problems running the program, or any questions :). Before you run the program, please check the changelog on the application page to see if I've made a new release (or just add the main page (here) to your watchlist). Finally, enjoy! NDfan007

[edit]

Hi Feydey. I believe these edits, which you reverted, actually were an improvement (not all anon edits are vandalism, take a closer look :-). Not a big deal though, just happened to have that page still on my radar because I did a history merge there :-). Happy x-mas! --Ligulem 10:46, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Change to Common.css

[edit]

Per recent discussions, the way in which Persondata is viewed by Wikipedia editors has changed. In order to continue viewing Persondata in Wikipedia articles, please edit your user CSS file to display table.persondata rather than table.metadata. More specific instructions can be found on the Persondata page. --ShakingSpirittalk on behalf of Kaldari 01:01, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

What can I do to make Annie Mae Leonard Mitcham's entry acceptable for this site?

Vandalism?

[edit]

Hi Feyday, could you just tell me what I actually did that counted as 'vandalism?' —The preceding unsigned comment was added by JFBurton (talkcontribs) 14:47, 30 December 2006 (UTC).

Hi, thanks very much for checking up on the Catalan Literature portal. I'm working on translating and completing the original article, so please allow me a bit of time since I'm new to Wikipedia and am still learning the ropes. Thanks again for your help and patience--Bewtros 19:05, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Doesn't meet the criteria?
